Z77A-G43, ALC892 chipset no SPDIF?!

I'm trying to figure out how to connect a surround receiver to my Z77A-G43 mobo's sound card.
It's an old reciever, it doesn't have HDMI. It has 2 digital INs. Optical and Coaxial. Thing is, I can't find a SPDIF jack on the mobo, even though the on-board is a Realtek ALC892 chipset and should support SPDIF. I tried connecting to the 3.5mm jacks with a Mini-Toslink but that doesn't work or maybe I'm not doing it the right way.
Do I have to buy a sound card with a SPDIF jack? Or is it possible to add a SPDIF bracket somehow? Or is one of the 3.5mm jacks is a dual one, also being digital?
Any help will be appreciated. Thanks!

xmad, there is no way to change the settings in the Realtek HD Audio manager to digital :(
I think XFM is right... there is not S/PDIF on this board.
What I was saying is that the Realtek ALC892 supports S/PDIF, is says it on the product's page.
So I'm wondering how come there isn't a S/PDIF jack on my board...
I was able to hook up the receiver to my TV which is connected to my graphics card with HDMI.

  • Z77A-G43 XMP RAM Voltages

I have some Crucial Ballistix 1866 ram installed in my Z77A-G43 mobo and was wondering if the motherboard follow ALL the voltages listed in the XMP profile if XMP is enabled.
Per readings from AIDA64, the XMP profile states a memory voltage of 1.5v and memory controller voltage of 1.3v.  If I enable XMP in the bios, does that mean the motherboard will adhere to these voltages?  I have no problems with 1.5v memory as that is standard but the memory controller voltage of 1.3v is extremely high.  Also, which voltage is the memory controller, is it VccI/O (Vtt) or VccSA (IMC) on a Ivy Bridge CPU?

It usually sets what it reads off the modules programming for DRAM V., timings, and Command Rate. Both I/O and SA are related to the memory operation. I can run RAM at 2800 with only I/O of 1.09v's and SA around 0.970v's, so 1.3v's is way higher than needed IMO.

Download the applicable Intel datasheet(s) for the CPU and chipset, and they will tell you everything you need to know. IMC? It stands for 'Integrated Memory Controller'.
      >> Intel <<
Added: It makes it hard when we can't see a complete signature or listing of all the systems components and hardware. In this case, the CPU is not known, which makes a difference what the IMC natively supports.

  • Z77A-G43, What does Intel ME do?

Hi, I've just built a pc with the Z77A-G43 board, I5-3570K CPU and Windows 8.  I'm wondering what does Intel ME do?  I've googled it and it looks to be for remote management of the PC.  I don't need that so do I still need to update the ME part of the bios and install the driver in Windows 8?  There is a stickie in this forum saying it is important to do so.  Just wondering why its so important and what ME actually do.
    Thanks.

    Quote
In the end, I've uninstalled the drivers from windows and disabled the hardware device in the device manager.
Do what you want, but that makes no sense to disable or remove an integral part of the chipset's ability to do it's work. There are two parts, the firmware imbedded in the chipset, & the driver for the OS. Why hamstring the system even though you don't see any obvious benefit of it? There are no UEFI/BIOS settings or settings in Windows related to it you can mess with. One function is to properly coordinate RAM initiation during the POST sequence. Has something also to do with temp monitoring last I remember reading. For whatever reason, the easily available information on all that it does has appararently been made systematically difficult to find.
Not all the functions of a systems components are visible and known to us. When the P67's came out, ME was a hot topic, as some boards didn't have the firmware installed, and it caused all kinds of problems.
Current IME mystery functions makes good fodder for the conspiracy theory crowd.

  • Z77A-G43 issue with SATA drive

    This is wierd
I have 4 Hitachi drives all of 1TB, perfectly working on old PC.
Today have decided to transfer them into new PC:
    MB: Z77A-G43
    BIOS: 1.20
    CPU: Intel g2020
Primary drive is Intel SSD 120G series 330
I have attached 3 HITACHI drives successfully, they are all working fine.
but particular one forces MB to reboot before BIOS screen, last code seen on screen is A2?
Then I have decided to put dedicated controller 1st I took SilImage 3512 SATA/RAID Controller
    - no changes computer reboots before post screen
    After I took VIA VT6421 SATA/RAID Controller
    - no changes computer reboots before post screen
    searched web, found nothing useful.
any ideas what might causing this?
EDIT: tested controller SiI3512 on old PC and trouble HDD, everything works just fine :/
    read AMIBIOS codes:
    0xA0 IDE initialization is started
    0xA1 IDE Reset
    0xA2 IDE Detect
    0xA3 IDE Enable
    0xA4 SCSI initialization is started
    0xA5 SCSI Reset
    0xA6 SCSI Detect
    0xA7 SCSI Enable
    0xA8 Setup Verifying Password
A2 is ide ? what ide ? I give up.
it seams to me that this board is broken in several ways
    - non working DVI
    - faulting with valid SATA drive
what else awaits me on this road

Quote from: flobelix on 07-May-13, 04:27:27
using IDE previously and now AHCI might trouble Windows but system would none the less post. At least you should get past IDE detection but hanging at A2 means it doesn't.
I'm wondering about your statement you had been using SilImage 3512 SATA/RAID Controller and VIA VT6421 SATA/RAID Controller. Are these PCI add-on cards? Did you try all SATA ports controlled by the Z77 chipset. Are the drives used are all identical? Is the issue only happening with one particular drive or anytime you attach a fourth hdd no matter which one it is?
About the performance difference from AHCI to IDE the differences are minimal. Should be almost irrelevant for the hdds.
    My discoveries:
Using sata mode IDE with windows installed in AHCI mode == windows hangs during loading (BSOD), probably missing drivers or similar.
Also I am unsure what A2 code means but I have noticed it is displayed while bios post screen shows up with the list of installed drives during normal boot.
And is also last code I see when I attach problematic drive resulting in reboot loop.
To be honest I haven't tried all SATA ports on board for sure I haven't tried SATA 1 (1st white) as there is my SSD drive.
But I have tried almost all other ports. I can try them all, but I don't think this will solve the problem.
I don't think problem is in what slot I put my drive, since same behavior is with SATA/RAID controllers.
And whit this SATA/RAID controllers this drive is working perfectly normal on other PC.
No not all drives are identical but I have exactly same drive as this one, and all drives are hitachi:
    * HDT721010KLA330 working fine
    * HDS721010SLA360 working fine
    * HDS721010CLA332 (1) working fine
    * HDS721010CLA332 (2) problematic drive == reboot loop (when its single drive or with others).
True I haven't tried to detach Intel SSD and leave problematic drive as only drive in system, I may try this tomorrow)
funny part is that HDS721010CLA332 (2) is working fine when I hot plug it.
Checked firmware version on both drives, and both drives have identical firmwares.
Only difference I know off is that working drive has 1 partition, and problematic drive has 2 partitions.
EDIT: forgot to say it passed SMART test, everything was green (hitachi sw), while hdd sentinel reported 1 bad sector but saying estimated drive working days > 900 days and degree was 98% I am guessing because of that 1 bad sector and too many working days (years) behind him.

I am hoping this is an easy one for all of you....I just built another Msi Board...Board in the title....
I enabled Pci-e 3 in Bios-before I even installed the operating system.....so after all the updates...all the drivers....100% ready for retail..
I downloaded Gpu-Z,,,,,,showing up as Pci-e 2.0.....so i did the render test and it stayed at 2.0...did not climb to 3.0....
This is my first combo---Pci-e 3.0 board and Processor.....am I missing a setting?
    speccs....
    I7 3770k----Z77a-G43.......GTX 660 Ti DC2......Windows 7 Ultimate....
and yes at first i thought it was speed stepping it down....But when I ran the render test that Gpu-z has....it maxed everything and never showed at 3.0....
    Thanks
Hey Mods.....I messed up and put this post with the amds......Sorry

I hate replying to my own Post..But i figured just encase, somebody else has the issue....They will know ,it is not just you..It is on most boards, with the older bios....If I would have posted in the right forum..Intel..LOL!!!!I would have found the answer right off the back...
This board need the beta Bios...Not a big deal, But as for right now..It is running great. No need for a bios update. Because there would be no performance gains at all...maybe 2 or 3 fps...Not even enough to make it worth it. My board is running great and I will leave Great alone.
Most Vid Card can not take advantage of the Pci-e 3.0 slots...and from what i read it will be about 3-5 years before we can get cards to take advantage...That kind of bite, But what can you do.........Thanks for reading if I have wasted your time...
These are not Facts--This is Just stuff I read on other post and forums...I could be 100% wrong......

  • Z77A-G43 drivers from MSI website not working

Hi, I've just built a new computer on a Z77A-G43, running Windows 7 Ultimate 64-bit.
    Specs:
    i5-3570K
    8GBs of Corsair RAM
    MSI 7850
    120GB Intel 330 SSD - system
    1TB WD Green - secondary
Instead of installing drivers from the supplied CD (except for ethernet drivers), I went to the MSI product page for my mobo for newer drivers. All goes well, except that I can't install the last driver I want - the Intel VGA driver for the GMA HD 4000 that's in my CPU. I read the readme, so I don't think I'm doing anything wrong. When I launch Setup.exe all I get is this error: "This computer does not meet the minimum requirements for installing the software." Running as admin doesn't change anything.
I'm thinking it must be the wrong driver. I looked through Intel's site, but would like to get a tested option here from MSI. I read some other forums of people having similar problems, some can't even boot after installing. I don't want to get into that situation. Could MSI please update the drivers page with the correct drivers? This driver isn't on the mobo CD anyway, so it's the only way to get it from you guys.
Btw, I also noticed the same problem with the Intel Rapid Start driver and I haven't tested the Intel Smart Connect driver. I'm not going to use either one of these, but it's worth noting.
    Edit:
Found the VGA driver on the CD, but same result. Through the autorun MSI interface the VGA driver button in the Drivers menu is unclickable.

I finally got around to installing the VGA drivers for the GMA HD 4000. You don't even need to unplug your discrete card (PEG), in BIOS just switch to initiate IGP and make sure you have an HDMI/DVI/DSUB plugged in to the monitor and scanning for input. If you go to the Windows device manager, you'll see the system is detecting a new graphics adapter. You can proceed with the installation of the drivers as they will now detect the IGP. Then one restart and you're done. Btw, after restarting, if you have your discrete card connected and monitor also plugged in, the video input may fall back to it, so don't panic if you hear the Windows start up sound and see a black screen.
Unfortunately the G43 does not come with any support for Lucid Logix Virtu software, so that was my mistake, when I said I see it all in the BIOS earlier. In the BIOS, all you can do is switch between which graphics adapter you want to initiate and some memory size settings when multi-monitor is enabled in IGP mode. There aren't any d-Mode or i-Mode settings.
Btw, how can I mark this as solved?

  • 5.1 speakerset not working in win8/Z77A-G43

    Hello all,
New on this forum, so i will try the get my question/problem clear  .
I recently bought a new desktop with a Z77A-G43 motherboard, this should support a 5.1 speakerset.
So i am trying go get my Logitech X530 speaker to work in windows 8 with specified motherboard. All goes fine with the setup, all tests run and all speakers pass the testsounds on 5.1 and thus are working. However when i start a game only stereo is given (2 front speakers work, all others in deep silence). Same goes when i start VLC to play MP3's, only stereo. After some searching i can not find anything that is wrong, soundfill is checked, room correction is on but no 5.1.
So in a last try i installed AC3filter which sovled this same problem in windows Vista. Result is not a thing, still no 5.1 working.
Please need some help in solving this.
Just downloaded a new driver for the realtek HD, will this resolve my problem? Current driver version is 6.0.1.6657.
Have some screenshot but can't find a way to post them here from my HDD.
    Can anyone help me.

  • Z77a-G43 with I7 2600K no Video

I have been pulling my hair out, I recently purchased a new Z77a-g43 mother board and an I7 2600K processor. Everything posts fine and I installed win7 64bit and installed the drivers, but when it reboots it starts loading windows and then just shuts down. I have narrowed it down to the on board video driver. If I uinstall it then the system works fine. When I try to re-install the video driver and reboot then it then shutts off while booting. So if I press the F8 key and boot back in to the last known good time it boots up with the standard vga driver. For specifics, I am running 16gig of DDR3 Patriot Sector 5, with the mb and processor and 2 2TB Hitachi drives.
The bios on the board was 2.2e which is not even list on the website yet. Hopefully this is just a bios issue and will be fixxed in the future.

Looking at it with live update it show 2.22 as the current version on the board installed right now. I can't check remotely what is reported in the bios, but on the board I returned, it reported it has 2.22e . The one available online was reported as 2.22 . I backed up the 2.22e then reverted or assumed it was reverting to the 2.22 without any change. I returned the board thinking it was bad, only to have the new board do the same thing. On the new board, I did not check the bios version from the bios as I did with the other. MSI Liveupdate is reporting 2.22 current.
I do have the 2.22e backed up though. Maybe this was a beta released fw.

  • Black screen at boot MSI Z77A-G43 with HD7850

    Hi,
I've tried everything You suggested in this topic. I've upgrade and downgrade bios (official 2.3, 2.4, 2.8, 2,9 / beta 256, 281,296) few times but still is black screen at boot. Now i'm on the newest beta bios 296 and still same issue on Sapphire HD 7850 with my Z77a-G43 board. I know for sure that sapphire working well because I've checked on other mobo with even worst PSU (400W instead 550W Volcano). Before hd 7850 I had gtx460 and swith those few times and always gtx460 works fine, so I don't understand anything right now.
Tried different slots, also clear cmos.
    Board: MSI Z77A-G43
    Bios: Version 296
    VGA:   Sapphire HD7850 1GB

Do you see the same problem on bios 2.90?
The Z77A-G43 seems the have difficulties accepting HD7xxx AMD VGA cards lately.
It seems that the problem is gone. I thought of it being an ATI driver issue ~ but not even the latest didn't fix it. But since I flashed to BIOS 2.9 I haven't encountered the problem anymore. So I believe something is fixed between 2.3 to 2.9.
However my problem was a bit different that the OP has.
Oh, and I said this on other thread so I say it here too: MSI and Asus 7xxx cards haven't faced the kind of issues Sapphires are having. I'm so glad to my choice... as I almost picked Sapphire but then read comments on Newegg which weren't in favor for Sapphire.

  • Z77A-G43 - DRAM banks 1&2 acting up.

Hey, guys. Thanks in advance for your time. I know it gets busy around here.
I am putting together a new system for the wife, and have an odd little issue. The DRAM banks 1 & 2 cause a pre-POST boot-loop when either are used. Banks 3&4 work perfectly. When a stick is in bank 1 or 2, the computer will power on, the fans spin, no video output, then it shuts itself down (regardless of what banks 3 & 4 hold). Repeats a few seconds later. All the usual trouble shooting has gone down. BIOS is all out-of-box default. All the components are brand new, but regardless were systematically replaced/removed one by one to narrow it down to these 2 ram banks. Needless to say, the RAM is fine - tested in two different computers. The memory banks are clean, new, with no visible dirt or damage. It's just odd.
    Code: [Select]
    1   2   3   4     <- Bank # ... X = used ... O = empty
    X   X   X   X = FAIL
    X   O   O   O = FAIL
    O   X   O   O = FAIL
    X   X   O   O = FAIL
    O   O   X   X = OK
    O   O   X   O = OK
    O   O   O   X = OK
The RAM in use is Kingston HyperX DDR3 1600MHz PC3 12800 4 GB (4 identical sticks = 16gb total) (KHX1600C9D3K2/8GX ). With RAM in memory banks 3 & 4, BIOS tones it down to 1333 from 1600, but that's the least of my worries. BIOS shows the timing as 9/9/9/24 and the voltage around 1.45 (can't remember exactly) even when it's increased to 1.65 (as suggested by the sticky). I also tried going 1 stick at a time but it started acting up as soon as I put anything in bank 3 or 4. There's just a lot of BIOS options that I simply don't know what they do.
I realize you guys have seen a lot of issues and was curious if you wouldn't mind lending a hand? I know my way around a computer, but certainly don't have the specialty knowledge particular to these pieces of hardware that you guys do. Any help is very appreciated. Please let me know if there's any information I can provide. I am dumping anything I think could be remotely relevant in this message. I really hope it's not a faulty board. Between disassembly and shipping, that would be an awful hassle.
    Here's what I'm working with:
    MSI Z77A-G43 (BIOS v2.2B2)
    Kingston HyperX DDR3 1600MHz PC3 12800 4 GB (4 identical sticks = 16gb total) (KHX1600C9D3K2/8GX )
    Intel Core i5-2500 3.3ghz
Nvidia GeForce GTX 550 Ti 2gb
PSU: Cooler Master GX 750W (RS750-ACAAE3-US)
    A-Data 120 GB SATAIII Sandforce SSD (AS510S3-120GM-C)
Western Digital Caviar Green 2 TB HD (WD20EARX)
Case: Cooler Master HAF 922 (RC-922M-KKN1-GP)
No OS has been installed. I didn't want to get too involved until I knew the hardware was staying put.
Thank you again for your time.

I think the potential explanations for your problems are only a few.  We can, I think, exclude a memory compatibility problem, since the sticks work fine in other slots.
In my oppinion, what we are looking at is one of the following things:
    1. A problem with the memory controller (which is inside the processor) = defective CPU
    2. A pin-contact problem between the CPU's contact pads and the board's socket pins causing certain memory slots to be improperly connected to the CPU's memory interface
    3. A short-circuit problem, blocking the functionality of the memory slots (test the board outside the case on a non-conducting surface)
    4. Defective memory slots or a problem in the underlying circuits = defective board
At your suggestion, I have made a couple of attempts to reseat the CPU (regarding #2). I realize that was a long shot, and not surprised to see no difference. I just wish I had another LGA 1155 CPU to swap out and test #1. I'm going to continue to brainstorm this for a few days before putting in a RMA request.

Could you provide more details about the PSU? Wattage rating and the amp rating on the +12V rail(s). Also, what is the current BIOS version? Why 6GB RAM? Are you using 3 sticks? If so, that is known to be counterproductive and has shown performance hits in that configuration in benchtests. Use just 2 RAM sticks in dual channel placed in the proper DIMM slots.
PSU : 600W , +12v1 , 10.35A (Pic below if you want to see it clearly)
