ZCM 10.3.1 and remote management from Opensuse 11.3

Hi,
I am have finally started to test ZCM as I am a die hard ZEN 7.0 fan...
Anyhow I like the concept of being able to remote control from Linux.
However I am running 64bit OpenSuse. Anyone know how I can get this
working?
Every time I try to remote manage it tells me to install the remote
management viewer(from Linux) It works fine from Windows
The install seems to install correctly.
Anyone know what I have done wrong or what I need to do to get this to
work..
Oh I also run KDE4
Thanks

Yeah figured that was going to be the answer. I installed the glitz
package, but it doesn't work. Oh well just thought I would see if
anyone else has it working, I have a SLES 11 server we run FreeNX on, so
I guess we can use that..

  • Screen sharing and remote management no longer working after some uptime

    Server is withoiut monitor.
Users need to login via screen sharing from time to time.
"Enable screen sharing and remote management" is ticked in Server.app everything is working fine (for days, weeks).
ARD reports "Screen Sharing Available", so remote management is not running how it should.
    Screen Sharing.app is "Connecting…" forever.
Kickstarting ARD (http://support.apple.com/kb/HT2370) does not help.
    Restart fixes it.
Is there a workaround (over ssh) or a fix?

Off-hand, no.   I don't.  See this posting, or as would be typical in any case, try it?

  • Screen Sharing and Remote Management

Is there a way in 10.6 to make both Screen Sharing and Remote Management run at the same time?
In the past (10.5), you could convince Mac OS to run both Screen Sharing and Remote Management to run simultaneously. I say "convince" because you could not enable them both through System Preferences. You could turn one on, then use Terminal to enable the other. This worked great for me, because I needed remote management for the machines I managed, and the users need screen sharing to work from home.
However, the work-around for 10.5 no longer seems to work for 10.6. Has any one gotten this to work yet for 10.6? Thanks!

I figured this out. First enable Remote Management via System Preferences. Then create /private/etc/ScreenSharing.launchd with 'enabled' as it's contents.

  • X Server and remote access from Windows

I am contemplating installing a MacMini Server running X Server but different people may need admin access, not all of them on Macs.
Is there a way where some of the server maintenance is done from a Windows machine using some sort of RDC program or is the only option to do the RDC from a Mac?

Out of the box OS X will provide access to nearly any VNC client. Many version exist for Windows. You just need to explicitly permit standard VNC access and provide a password. This can be done in System Preferences > Sharing > Remote Management > Computer Settings.
In that dialog, check "VNC viewers may control screen with password" and set a password. In leopard the text box had a character limit. I have not tested in Snow yet. If you run into a problem, you can use the kickstart command line tool as it appears to have no character limit.
Oh, one other tip. Many Window's VNC clients will fail to establish a connection. This is because the screen depth is set to low. Make sure you set the number of colors on the VNC client to the highest it will go.
    Hope this helps

  • ZCM Agent 11.3.x - Remote Management - Windows User Variable

I noticed this back during the initial deployment of 11.3.1, however have not had a chance to comeback to it. Now we are at 11.3.2 and the issue seems to still be.
On login we have a script that runs via a bundle it tracks user, date, time, computer login info to 2 locations, one on the local workstation to a hidden folder and 2 on the network.....
It looks like this in the log file
    "pwolfe" , "192.168.x.x" , "LPTP-PWOLFE" , "Tue 02/03/2015" , "11:44:20.05"
What I have noticed is if someone uses ZRM (Zen Remote Management) to manage the workstation / shadow a user for help or any other such thing...the next logon on the box will look like this
    "LPTP-PWOLFE$" , "192.168.x.x" , "LPTP-PWOLFE" , "Tue 02/03/2015" , "11:44:20.05"
Notice the user variable went from the username to the computer name with a dollar sign. I would say it could be the script, however see below it works fine with the old agent installed.
If you reboot the computer its fine, you can login and out time after time and it will display correctly. However if someone remote manages the computer it is broke until the next restart.
here is the script that runs:
    for /f "Tokens=2 Delims=[]" %%i in ('ping -4 -n 1 "%computername%"') do set IP=%%i
    Echo "%username%" , "%IP%" , "%ComputerName%" , "%date%" , "%Time%" >>"\\192.168.x.x\support\utilities\logfiles\IPaddr essLog.txt"
    Echo "%username%" , "%IP%" , "%ComputerName%" , "%date%" , "%Time%" >>"C:\Utilities\IPaddressLog.txt"
This is being called as a launch item under a user run bundle, it is set to run as logged in user.
This is not happening on the older 11.2.4 separate Zone / server setup that is still in use for the majority of people. Just on the newer 11.3.x environment.
If I remove the 11.3.x agent and install the 11.2.4 agent and point it to the old environment / server it works fine.
    Any ideas?
    Thanks,
    Patrick

    Thanks Craig,
I finally got some time to look at this again.
It appears on the first logon to a computer it runs correctly, if a Remote Management session takes place and once logged off and a log in is initiated you get the incorrect information. If you run the application from the Zen App Window it displays correctly. If you reboot the computer it works as expected for the first logon and then stops working if a remote session is initiated.
3 Straight logons, the 4th entry is when I ran it manually from the zen app window:

  • What's the difference between Screen Sharing and Remote Management?

As the title asks. What is the difference between the two?
Because heres the thing. I set Screen Sharing on in Sharing. Then a few days later I will go back to the Sharing preferences and instead of Screen Sharing being checked. Remote Management is now checked, not Screen Sharing. What's the deal? Is that normal?
I was wondering if it was because I log into my iMac sometimes using my iPhone with that Mocha VNC program. Its the only program I use to remotely control my computer. Is that it?
Any help I can get is appreciated! Thanks!

Remote Management provides support for the additional functionality of Apple Remote Desktop as compared to a standard VNC setup. The options are otherwise identical.

  • OIM and Remote Manager

Do you know if out of the box connectors bundled(9.0.4.1) are supported using Remote Manager?
Remote Manager and OIM Server are in a different location
    Regards

The majority of the out of the box connectors don't require (or use) remote managers. There are a few exceptions, typically when the target systems don't have network aware libraries available at all or on all the operating systems that the OIM server supports.
You can't use a non-remote manager connector via remote manager as there are required changes in both the forms and the underlying adapter code.

  • Keeping remote management from being turned off.

Anyone know of a set of commands that will keep remote management turned on in sharing preferences.
I monitor a network and the users need full admin access. However they like to turn off the remote management preference.
    Any assistance would be appreciated.

Antonio is on the right track.  Unfortunately, if you give your users admin access they can undo anything.  This is what I do in Terminal, and so far, no one has been determined enough to disable it:
    sudo crontab -e
*/30 * * * * /System/Library/CoreServices/RemoteManagement/ARDAgent.app/Contents/Resources/k ickstart -activate -configure -access -on -users administrator -privs -all -restart -agent -menu
Assuming you know how to adjust a cron job, you can have it fire off at whatever interval you'd like.  The example above restarts Remote Management every 30 mins.  They may go in and turn it off a few times, but in my experience they just give up after a few times.

  • Installation: HPLIP, and remote printing from ANDROID, & iOS to a static networked HP printer

I recently installed an HP LaserJet Professional m1212nf MFP Printer on my network and gave it a static IP address.  On my main computer (also statically networked - Ubuntu 12.04) I installed the hplip services and can successfully print to it.  On the same computer I have a Dymo Labelwriter and an HP ColorLaserJet 1215 connected by USB.
I can print from my iPhone and tablet running Android's ICS to the labelmaker and the color laserjet using Airprint services, but I can't print to the m1212nf with Airprint.  If I print via the CUPS driver using Airprint I get a successsful completion of the printout, but the printer doesn't print.  Now, since the printer m1212nf is NOT connected to the CUPS print server by USB, that makes sense unless I can be told how to set up CUPS to print to the device on the network.
    -or-
I think, from what I've read so far, that Icould use eprint if there was a way to put a windows driver (Yes, begrudgingly I have access to a Windows laptop that I can put on my network) on the m1212nf as well as the hplip driver that currently lets it communicate with my primary computer.
I would prefer an Airprint solution as Airprint works with the mobile devices to the other two printers.
    This question was solved.
    View Solution.

    OK, Egg on my face!
Turns out iOS worked perfectly fine, but the Android app I had on my tablet didn't.  Upon further pursuit of the Android issue, I found only one free app that did work (at least for text) in the play store, but that one was really a "trial" version as the printout was watermarked, but one could remove the watermark for two separate prices, one for text and another for photos.
But, by replying with a solution to this problem myself, I consider it {SOLVED].  Futhermore it leaves no doubt that Airprint and the "airprint-generate" script do work for versions of Ubuntu on the Ubuntu side.

  • Remote Apple Events and Remote Management

Good day: Simple question - I discovered that RAE and RM were both on in my Sharing prefs; I did not turn them on. Can an application turn them on automatically, or was someone spying?

Your text is not clear: you wish to connect to the internet, and you cannot do that? or you want to share your internet connection, to be used by other computers, and you do not know how to do this?
The title of your thread indicates the latter (this is the meaning of share), but your text rather indicates the former situation.
In order to share net, you must first mac connected to the net up and running, but I understand you did not get to that point, right?
    Please be clear.

  • Difference between remote management and vnc

Difference between remote management and vnc

By VNC I will presume you mean 'Screen Sharing'.
Screen Sharing in System Preferences - Sharing is purely for remote control and is based on the VNC protocol with a few extra features added by Apple.
Remote Management in System Preferences does everything Screen Sharing does and is fully compatible with another Mac doing just Screen Sharing, i.e. it allows remote control. However it can also do additional things. It is intended for use with Apple's Remote Desktop Administration software which can use this to send files to a Mac, send (Unix) commands to a Mac and ask for a report from the Mac (e.g. how much RAM it has).
If you don't have Apple Remote Desktop there is no real point enabling Remote Management instead of Screen Sharing.
Both Screen Sharing and Remote Management can also be configured to allow 100% standard VNC connectivity from say a PC, as standard they only accept connections from Macs.

  • Server 2012 R2 - Remote Management Exception - Not working 100%

    So,
I am spinning up a ton of VM's for the University I work at in preparation for migrating to 2012 completely and I discovered something interesting today.
The "Allow Remote Management from these subnets" option, only partially enables remote management.  You still need to run the remote management enablement with NetSh (http://blogs.technet.com/b/askds/archive/2008/06/05/how-to-enable-remote-administration-of-server-core-via-mmc-using-netsh.aspx)
for the certain functionality (Remote Firewall, VDS, FRS Options), which to me seems really weird.
    Has anyone else experienced this?
    ----------------------------------------- Dan Sheppard

    Hi Dan,
If you want to manage remote server core with MMC (Microsoft Management Console), we need to configure Windows Firewall firstly to allow MMC snap-in(s) to connect on the remote server core, since your servers are Server 2012 and newer, so we can also use
the powershell cmdlet instead of cmd netsh:
    Enable-NetFirewallRule -DisplayGroup "Remote Service Management"
In addition, you can also use Windows Powershell to help you to remote access with Powershell Remoting, Powershell has substantial Modules and Cmdlets to help us to manage server.
For more detailed information to manage server core, please refer to this article:
