• Zen Micro - charging via 220V - USB char

Hello!
I'm trying to charge my Zen Micro (5Gb) via 220V-usb charger (mini usb jack), but it seems that player is not charging. When I use computer usb port it charges normally.
Is it a feature, and zen can not be charged via 220v-usb device or it is a bug?
nb: charger has 5v - I'v tested it by voltmeter.
Thank you all for help

For v2 (MTP/PlaysForSure) firmware, you're looking for version 2.20.05.
Third-party chargers only work with the Micro in "locked charging" mode, which is only available in the ..0 and 2.20.05 firmwares (.0.02 too, but it has another power-related bug and should be upgraded anyway), or with certain workarounds used with earlier firmwares such as enabling a small removable-disk partition, which worked for me with 2..02 firmware. (I didn't have to actually enable removable-disk mode, but IIRC others did.)
Otherwise, the firmware "reads" the connection thru the USB port and refuses to charge if it isn't an officially-supported connection--that is, either a PC with the proper drivers for your firmware, or an official Creative charger. "Locked charging" turns that off; it's officially for PCs without drivers installed, but it works with third-party chargers as well.

iTunes never displays the iPod in the left pane?
iTunes is shipped with a "helper application" called the "iPod Service" that runs and is used by iTunes to communicate with the iPod device. This service may be disabled.
If your system is Microsoft Windows XP and you are logged in as an Administrator:
1. Quit iTunes and, if your iPod is currently connected to your computer, safely remove it using the system tray application to manage removable devices.
2. Right click on "My Computer"
3. Select "Manage"
4. In the "Computer Management" window, left pane (tree view), follow this path:
+Computer Management (local) > Services and Applications > Services+.
5. In the right pane, scroll down to "iPod Service" and double click it.
6. If the service is listed as "Disabled" and "Stopped," change to "Manual" and "Start" it. ("Manual" will cause it to start when iTunes starts and "Start" starts the service right now.)
7. Close "Computer Management"
8. Restart iTunes and wait for it to completely come up.
9. Reconnect your iPod.
Does your iPod show up in iTunes?

• ZEN Micro- Loose connection with USB port while charg

Hello everyone, I just bought my Zen Micro today. However, the USB port is quite loose, I am able to shake the USB connection to my player. Is this normal?

It's normal for the cable to be a bit loose when plugged in, yeah. I shouldn't worry about it unless the connection starts being faulty, which I don't think it will.
If any of the actual player itself looks wobbly, though, you probably ought to get a replacement.

• Zen Micro wont charge using USB

Hi,
Can anyone help me. I have just purchased a Zen Micro and a Zen Touch. The Touch works fine. My wifes micro on the other hand is not - there was no charger in the box. I was under the impression that it can also charge using USB, but my machine (which is quite old btw - P4 650mhz Gateway) does not recognise it. Is it a problem with my machines USB, or is it more likely to be a problem with the Micro? I have purchased a Charger which should be around in the next couple of days (thinking it may need to be charged using a charger on the initial charge).
Any help would be appreciated,
Thanks in advance,
Steve

Do you know what firmware your wife's Micro has? (Check System > Information from the Micro's main menu to be sure.) Also, what Windows version (and service pack, if any) do you use?
Do you plan to use "to go" subscription services with the Micro? Current "to go" services include:
FYE Download Zone (US only)

HMV Digital (UK or Ireland)

Napster To Go (US, Canada, or UK)

Rhapsody To Go (US only)

Virgin Digital (UK only; US version doesn't support "to go")

Yahoo! Music Unlimited (US only)

For the Touch, did you install the drivers from the CD, or download the latest drivers from here? You probably should download the new driver (unless you have 2.x Micro firmware with WinXP SP or 2) to be sure it will support the Micro too.
Are you connecting the Micro directly to your PC, or thru a hub? If to the PC, is the USB connection you're using on the front or the back of the PC? It's best to connect to a USB jack on the back of the PC if possible, not to a front jack or hub (especially an unpowered hub which won't charge the Micro). It's also possible that the Micro has issues with your PC's USB configuration; you may need to buy a separate USB card (preferably USB 2.0--you probably have USB . jacks).Message Edited by RBBrittain on 09-05-2005 07:09 PM

Also when i try to connect it to my computer it does the exact?same thing. This is basically all i get out of my zen lately, and its been doing this for a few months now. Ive tried the take out battery while holding on thing... but i dont even get the recovery screen or whatever. And the worst part..... i dont have a warranty. A few things that?might?have led to this problem are
[color="#ff6600" size="4" face="Verdana">I have lost the actual zen micro usb charger<

An update...
I downloaded Apple's (rather large!) list of software updates today, and I was finally able to recognize my iPod again. I did a restore using the iPod updater from 06-2006, and all seemed to work OK. (I'm afraid to try the new one again!)
Then I tried to re-load my music library from iTunes, and got stuck. It froze up after a while and wouldn't go any further.
When I disconnected my iPod from my computer, I find 2 podcasts and nothing else, though iTunes told me it had transferred 600+ songs. Those 2 podcasts do play fine, and the basic iPod software all seems to be intact.
So -- anyone get through this connection problem and have any ideas to share??

• Zen micro telling me that USB drivers are unistall

Hello all,
I'm having this weird problem. My computer was stutdown for a while and when i rebooted the unit it doesnt recognises my zen micro. Can someone help me please?
P.S. I have re installed the software and it's the same thing that happens.

What firmware are you using? You're probably just missing a plugin, driver, and/or latest software, all of which can be found at Creative's downloads page.

• Need another usb cord for ipod shuffle. One that will sync to new ford explorer and charge as well.

Which usb cord is best to use with ipod shuffle in new ford explorer. Would like to be able to sync and charge.

Which iPod shuffle do you have? This document shows the four types
http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1719
If it's 2nd gen, do not get a USB cable that is for 3rd/4th gen, because the connector is different.
iPods only "sync" to computers running iTunes. It may work to make song files (on the shuffle) available to play by the car audio system, but that depends on the specification of the car audio system, not the cable. The car audio system would be using the shuffle like it was a USB flash drive (not syncing). You'll need to look at the car audio system's documentation to see what devices are supported.

• I need a USB cord for my CanonPixmaMX890 and can't find one anywhere. Is there a comparable one?

I have looked everywhere trying to find a USB chord for my CanonPixmaMX890. Is there another printer cord that is compatable with my printer I can purchase somewhere. I don't have acces to WiFi yet and won't for awhile and this is effecting my business badly. Thank you!

Hi, mzklady!
Your Canon PIXMA MX890 will work with any A-to-B USB cable. These are typically available at low prices at just about any retailer who sells electronics. Additionally, if this isn't your first printer, you may be able to reuse the cable from your previous printer.
We hope this helps!

• USB Cord for WoW Headset acting weird.

Whenever I move slightly, the cord will for some reason tell my computer it's unplugged and I have to replug in the entire thing to get it to work. It's getting incredibly irritating, and I can't figure out why it's doing this unless the cord is flawed inside the braiding in some way, though I can't imagine how.
Has anyone had this problem?
Can I get a replacement USB cord if this is the problem?
If it's not the problem, then what is it, and how can I fix it?
If it can't be fixed am I eligible for a replacement?

Uennie,
It would be advisable to write to our Customer Support to see how they can help you.

• New USB cord for 3rd gen Nano not working

Okay, I've got a 3rd generation Nano, and the original USB cord it came with was damaged, so I replaced it with an identical one. But now, when I hook it up to my computer, nothing happens---it won't even recognize that there is anything in its USB port. If somebody could give me any advice on how to handle this, I would really appreciate it.

No it doesn't. Sometimes it make a sound that it should when connecting but that is it. Never actually charges or syncs. And it is a brand new cord.

Maybe if it doesn't recognize it, you might have to install the software again (the CD that came with it).
