Zen or Zen Mx?

Does anyone know the differences between the Zen 6gb and the Zen Mx 6GB which is the better player?

The MX, as I understand it, is a trimmed-down version of the Zen in terms of codec support, so that it can be offered at a lower price.
For videos it only supports Creative's own CMV codec, but I'm not sure if the MX also has less audio codecs.
Also the MX has a problem with SDcard integration; it rebuilds of the contents of the SDcard everytime you switch the player on, which many people who use the MX in conjunction with an SDcard find annoying.
So basically if you just want a simple musicplayer you can go for the cheaper MX.

  • Help me,please - ZEN MICRO/ZEN V PLUS AC POWER ADAPTER compatibily

    Hi to everyone,
I bought a ZEN V Plus (4 GB; DAP-FL0036), I already had got a ZEN MICRO (5 GB; DAP-MD0004, it purchased on march 2005), I would know if the ZEN MICRO's AC Power Adapter (data: AC ADAPTOR Model no. SCP050000P; P/N AD20000002870; Output 5V - 000mA) is full compatible and usable with ZEN V Plus too.
    Best Regards

  • When is the Zen V & Zen V Plus availabe in Austral

    Hi,
I was wandering if anyone has any release info on the Zen V & Zen V plus for the Australia region? Knowing Creative Australia, by the time it get's here it will be 'uped by Crapple!

Creative announced US pricing of $30, $70, and $230 for the gig, 2 gig, and 4 gig model. Those higher numbers you see are in Singapore dollars. Often if a price is in Singapore dollars there is an S before the price. The exchange rate is roughly .6 Singapore Dollars equals one US dollar.

  • Question about the new battery for zen micro/ zen microph

i just reacently noticed that creative has a new bettery the?Li-Ion Battery (830mAh) for ZEN MICROPHOTO/ ZEN MICR0 on there website they say it gives longer battery lifeand i was wondering how true this could be because i would like to get more than 6 to 8 hours out of my zen micro

The Zen MicroPhoto uses more power than the Zen Micro would, so it has a better battery. But you can use this battery with the Zen Micro and it should last longer than your original battery.

  • Folder navigation in ZEN and ZEN MX

I have a question about the ZEN and ZEN MX players. Is there folder navigation(such as that in windows explorer) or are the songs sorted by Artist, Album, etc.?

The Zen is a wonderful player. If you store the songs inside the player, it would support ID3 tagging browsing. However if you want to browse by Folder put the songs in your SD card and use the 'Memory Card' option to view the songs via folders.

  • Using new Creative Zen without Zen Media Explo

    Hi
I have just received my Creative Zen. I wanted to use it like an external hard disk as well as an MP3 player but on my computer Windows XP only detects the Zen after I have installed Zen Media Explorer. This means I can't use it on other computers without installing the software.
However it looks like some people have been able to plug and play:
    http://forums.creative.com/creativelabs/board/message?board.id=pmc&message.id=45483
    What's the story?

I don't think you get that New Hardware Wizard if you have Windows Media Player v. on your system.
The drivers are in the WMP software. If you don't have WMP v. you should upgrade. Do you get the new hardware wizard as soon as you connect with your USB connection? If so, that tells you that your USB connection is good.
Have you installed the Creative Media Source and the Zen V Media Explorer software on your PC yet? If you are like me - the last thing you look at is the User manual. I just about tore my hair out when I first got this thing because I didn't have even a basic understanding of how it worked. Then I discovered the "User Guide" in the software package on the PC, and it really gives a lot more information than the little user manual that comes in the package. Ithink you will find a lot of answers there. Don't know why people don't want to use the ZenV Media Explorer.
As I have come to understand this setup, the Creative Media Source is the software that resides on your PC and acts as your Player/Organizer but the Zen V Media Explorer is software that actually resides on your player and acts as your player's file manager. It is to your player - what Windows Explorer- is to your PC, PLUS other functions. I could be wrong about this, but I think that if you want to just be able to drag and drop files and use your Zen V like a flash dri've, you have to do some configuration for mass storage.

  • Zen 4 - Zen 6.5 Inventory database upgrade fails

    Hi all,
Have installed Zen 6.5 over a Zen 4 server (nw65) running inventory.
Database is on a seperate oracle server.
When I start inventory, it starts the database upgrade and then fails
with a java exception part way through, and then says "stopping the
    upgrade service".
Following is the log. Anyone know which bit is falling over and why?
There's a few errors in the log and I don't know which are cosmetic/non
critical. Either way, I've researched each and can't find any fixes
    anyway.
    cheers

ok putting inv into "ALL" debug mode, it told me it was running
    init_sl_0.sql
I found this file contained in migrate.zip under the wminv\properties
    directory.
So I extracted the migrate.zip file, edited init_sl_0.sql and removed
the alter tablespace lines. Why they're wanting to do alter tablespace
I have no idea - applications shouldn't expect to be able to do that...
it's up to the organisation and the DBA to manage the tablespaces, not
    the application.
I then re-zipped all the files using Winzip and named the file
migrate.zip and placed it in the properties directory.
Now, when the upgrade runs I get a java exception when it tries to
unzip migrate.zip and the upgrade bombs.
I also tried just opening the migrate.zip file with Winzip and directly
editing the file from within Winzip, which does allow for this. However
it appears the files inside the archive are flagged read-only, so
Winzip can't rewrite the edited file back into the same folder location
    within the archive.
    Here's the java exception:

  • Zen or Zen Vision

I'll be buying two, primarily for my two daughters, 5 & 6yrs. They'll be used for music & movies on trips.
I know the Vision M has an actual harddri've, and the other one is expandable via SD Cards, but what are the primary differences users see? Are the screens comparable, or is one brighter than the other? Would the Vision be safer for young ones since there's no dri've with moving parts? Do they play the same formats?

The Zen Vision M is harddisk based while the Zen is Flash Memory based. Harddisk are very fragile especially for something as small as what is used on the Vision M, shaking it or dropping it may damage the harddisk. The Flash memory can handle such stress a lot better and the worst that could happen when it is dropped or stepped on is cosmetic damage.
If you are looking at a portable device then the Zen is definitely the way to go since it is physically smaller, lighter and more durable. If you however need a larger storage space or need to plug the player to view on a TV then the Vision M is better.
The Zen is only capable of viewing movies which has a form factor of 320x240 pixels and cannot view anything bigger. Basically you need to resize the video to fit that form factor. This will inevitably allow you to safe on storage space.
Technically, the Zen Vision M is no longer in production and what you get are the remaining stocks.

  • Zen V / Zen V Plus headphone jack prob

I want to get one of these but first I want to know if this new player has the headphone jack problem seen on previous Zen players.
    Any troubles so far?
    nm

Its been out a while, and no problems yet. The only models that have a headphone jack problem are the old (G: with the "back" for the back button) zen micros. No other player have had serious problems since.
Enjoy your player when you get it!

  • What would you choose: Zen or Zen Tou

    Which is better and why?
The Zen 20GB Mp3 player, or the Zen Touch 20GB with remote control?
The Zen is a later model, and a little more expensi've too. But is the firmware (the software of the mp3 player) of the Zen the same as the Zen touch, or is it better? And what does it offer that the Zen Touch doesn't?
    Hmm..

It's really down to you which you prefer. I think the Zen 20Gb is a little smaller at least in plan, although a touch thicker.
The Zen 20 Gb has one or two extra functions, but the Zen Touch has MTP firmware (that allows access to subscription music).

  • Zen MicroPhoto & Zen V Plus-Softwar

Hello I have a Zen MicroPhoto and have the software installed on my PC. I just purchased a Zen V Plus for my wife. Do I have to install the Zen V Plus software as well or will it work with the Zen MicroPhoto software?Great products and I highly recommend these to anyone.

  • Any way to change the ZEN (not Zen) background images to my o

title says it all. the player has six choices, it would be nice to know how to change them to my own pictures if that is possible.

Upload your pictures to your ZEN, find the picture you want to use as background in the Photos menu, hit the menu button (top right)?while that picture is displayed on the screen, then scroll down the options until you see 'Set as Wallpaper' and make that selection. That's all there is to it.

  • Creative Zen 20gb (zen micro look) really available??? Price (with shipping): 3

    I saw it here:
    http://global.yesasia.com/en/PrdDept.aspx/pid-003985495/code-c/section-electronics/
    Price (with shipping): 369$
It says ready to ship in less than 7 days (release Date: April 6, 2005).
I want to know if anyone has bought it from there. Are they serious?
What do you think of the player?
Another question: is a 40gb version planned?Message Edited by Lazar on 04-8-2005 05:40 PM

    Have you read my sig?
The iRi'ver H320 or H340 is another alternati've to your selection. The size of it is about 3/4 smaller than the Zen Xtra. It's probably less than the size of the Zen Touch, I may be wrong but I know it's not that big. 20 or 40GB, LCD with real colored screen, photo viewing, no custom eq but you can configure your bass and treble setting plus add on SRS or WOW effect. There are more sound options but I haven't seen them all yet, if you want to use Ultimate Bass, it is very amazing. Plus the internal mic doesn't have that hiss that the micro has, you can feel your heartbeart with it. It has a Line In jack and a Line Out jack. You can use the Line In to record anything that goes in it, and the line out is PERFECT for stereo systems or speakers. You can add on a remote control if you want to. It also has FM radio and recorder. It's USB 2.0 connector and there's another USB connector for something else I can't figure out yet.
And the best part about it is the korean firmware you can flash it with. It will void your warranty but people on the misticri'ver forums have been sending back their iRi'ver and none of them has ever refused their iRi'ver H320. You can watch Xvid encoded movies. A 30 minute video is about 60-70MBs, imagine how much movies you can put inside. It's 0 frames per second which is not bad, 4 hours battery life if you play just movies while you get nearly 4 hours if you play just music and even if you control the H320 a lot. I really don't know what happen to the misticri'ver forum, I can't seem to get there anymore.
How much is it now, it's about $279-299 for the H320. Check amazon.com. Did you know that the old iRi'ver HX was sold out and discontinued? That Mp3 player could also view movies. Don't relate the H320 with the current H0s, the H0s have firmware problems right now.

  • Differences Zen NX, Zen Touch and Zen 2

    Hi,
Can anyone tell me what the main differences are between the Zen NX, The Zen touch and the Zen 20GB? I've been looking into these three models for a while now, but haven't found any major differences. My main goal is to have my entire music collection on the player, and I would like to be able to sort my music on genre or in playlists. But as far as I know, all of the players I just named are able to do that. Which one would be the best one to go for?
    Thanks,
    Peter

The model differences are listed here.Message Edited by SSR on 0-27-2005 0:6 PM

  • Creative Zen Neeon/Zen Ne

Does anyone know when this product is due to be released in the UK?
    Thanks

Only Creative know for sure (check with them).
Personally I doubt it though. This player has been out for a while now in other regions.
