Zen Touch Playlist Quer

Hi
Im just about to think about playing with playlists on my Zen Touch 20GB, couple of things though please...
Firstly, do playlists take up much space on your players hard disk at all? Also does the space it takes up differ greatly between a playlist with 0 tracks and a playlist with 9000 tracks?
Secondly, is there a limit to the number of tracks you can have in a single playlist?
Lastly, is there a limit to the number of playlists you can store on your player?
Ooo, also lastly, Is it better to make the playlist in Mediasource and then copy it across or just do it on the player?
Thanks a load folks

Certainly nothing significant, don't worry about it.
Secondly, is there a limit to the number of tracks you can have in a single playlist?
I believe there is, but it's pretty vast and very rare to encounter.
Lastly, is there a limit to the number of playlists you can store on your player?
Again I believe there is and it's one of those classic powers of 2 e.g. 256. Again, more than enough for normal use.
Ooo, also lastly, Is it better to make the playlist in Mediasource and then copy it across or just do it on the player?
Personally I ALWAYS use the software, just comes down to personal preference though.

  • Zen Touch playlists with MediaSource &

I have a zen touch w/ the updated firmware, and i just updated all the software.. the mediasource suite?
anyhow, I've been using windows media player to sync my zen touch. I just autosynced them on WMP, and it worked just dandy. however, i just downloaded the mediasource suite thing, and none of the playlists that are on my zen touch appear when i look at the zen touch media explorer. is there any way to access them?
The reason why this matters to me is because i'd like to be able to transfer songs from my zen touch to another comp some time and the zen touch media explorer has that feature. and it'd be infinitely easier to do it via playlist than song by song. especially since windows media player organized all the songs into separate folders by artist.
I did look for this question on the forums before i posted, but i didn't see a clear answer.Message Edited by erink02 on -28-2005 0:22 AM

The playlists appear correctly on the player right? If so then this could be a problem with Zen Media Explorer itself, not sure of a fix hopefully someone does.
As for getting songs off your player in that structure (Artist\Album\song_title.mp3) then you can use Windows Explorer/My Computer. Open that up and you should see your player listed, you can then highlight, copy, and paste it onto your computer. Playlists are not recognized in Windows Explorer so you will have a problem with that.

  • Zen Touch Playlist Prob

I JUST got my Touch today, so I am still new to it all. I have updated the Dri'ves, the Firmware to the latest(2.) and the MediaSource to 3.30 with the newest plugins. Now, I am trying to create some play list. I create one that is of a CD, and it transfered the files over nicely. BTW, I am doing this in MediaSource. Then, I went to create a new play list. The one was a mix of about 64 songs, and contianed a few from the CD I had already made. When it transfered over the song to the player, it did not add the songs from the CD already on the player into the play list. So, how do I had a song to a playlist if it is already on the Zen, in another play list, and in another folder? Dragin and droping dose not work, becuase it tries to upload the file. I just want to add the songs back into the play list.

Well, I figure it out. If I try to add a file to a play list, off of the computer hard dri've, it will try to add it AND upload. If it is already on the Zen Touch, it will not upload or add to the play list. So, I had to had the song to the play list by draging it from the Zen Touch, not the computer. That would be something nice to have fixed on the MediaSource software. If you try to add a song to a play list and it is already loaded onthe MP3 player, add it to the play list, not fail to upload and not add.

  • Creative Zen touch Playlist Problem - H

I've had problems with the software on my creative zen touch 20gb since i've had it. All i want to do is learn to creat a playlist of all my favourite tracks. Because of the software problems i've had (and i've tried everything to fix it) the only program it will let me use to synch files is Windows Media Player. I've read all the instructions about how to create a playlist but none of them apply to windows media player. Does anyone know how to create a playlist using the media player. the version i have of the zen touch is 2..0.

Yeah it synch's ok. I can transfer music over no problem, but the difficulty comes in creating a playlist. Say for arguments sake i had 0 albums on my mp3 player. I might want to take individual tracks from each album and put them into a playlist. I cant seem to do that with windows media player.

  • Problem with Zen Touch Playlists Resol

With the help of Jean-Francois, a colleague of my husband's, I figured out the problem I was having with putting playlists on my Zen Touch MP3 player in the order in which I wanted them to play, and it's a simple solution but one I thought I'd pass on to others in case anyone else runs into this problem:
Simply put, when you make playlists, have your MP3 player docked with your computer, and make sure that in the MediaSource Organizer program, the player is highlighted (well, it's a gray bar) when you start making the playlist. Then start with "new playlist," give it a name and enter the songs you want in the order you want as usual. What you're doing is actually building the playlist in the player rather than in the MediaSource Organizer, and the playlist will be created as you want it to be.
If, like me, you then want to transfer the playlist to your computer program, you'll find that it will turn up on the 'puter in alphabetical order (the problem I was having with the Zen Touch player); but it's a simple matter to click'n'drag the songs around until they're in the order you want - and, as far as I can tell, they will stay in that order once you've moved them.
So, problem solved - would have been nice if the User's Guide specifically said "you must dock your Zen Touch player to the computer while making playlists if you want the playlist to be in the proper order on your player," but we figured it out.....

Data files are often a problem with the player. It sounds like you've tried pretty much everything you can short of a disk cleanup from rescue mode.
Failing this you could try formatting the player in case something has become corrupted. Of course make sure to backup the player first.
Also there's lots of advice via the "PC connection problems with your player" link in the FAQ post.

  • Export ZEN TOUCH playlist to I

Help!?I have a Zen Touch and my wife just got an iPod (not my choice!)? Naturally, we are sharing music - she uses iTunes and I use Media Source. I cannot figure out how to share playlists. As I understand it, the Zen playlists are zpl files - and there doesn't seem to be a way to?export to ?m3u playlists - or any playlist iTunes will recognize. Anyone have any ideas on how I can export my playlists to my wife's ipod? Thanks!?CMV

I would suggest you make playlists directly on your Touch, unless there's a good reason not to.

  • Zen Touch Playlist From Compu

I couldn't find anything on this in the FAQ that was definiti've--so here is my question....is the only way to transfer a playlist from a computer by using Creative Mediasource? I can't get WMP0 to work, nor the new Yahoo Music Engine (which works great in every other respect, by the way).
I would love to have the Janus DRM firmware upgrade promised since last fall, but for now even synchronization capability with WMP0 or Yahoo Music Engine (I think if one works, so does the other) would be fine. I am beginning to wonder whether they are ever going to fix this player. I only bought it because they announced LAST SUMMER that the Touch would support Janus DRM.
Anyhow, my real question at this point involves playlists. I don't like to put them on the player directly, as I like to be able to move the order around, etc. and can't figure out how to do this on the player itself. Besides, I find it far easier to pick out tracks on the computer. Thanks.

It's certainly easier?to create and edit playlists via the PC, using any of the software that can do this e.g. MediaSource, and even easier with the?excellent shareware Notmad Explorer.

  • Zen Touch: Importing Playlists to the player with new firmware?/ Where do I get MediaSourc

    Hello!
I have a problem with my Creative Zen Touch. I have updated the firmware of the Player to 2.., the new one which causes many trouble. The trouble is that I can throw my music via plug and play on the Player, but just with the Media Explorer for Play-for-Sure-Devices and with the Windows Media Player 0.
With this programs it works quite fine, but I cannnot import playlists to the player, just the plain files. With the Media Explorer for Play-for-Sure-Devices I cant even select the Playlists and with the Windows Media Player the files just get loaded onto the player, but it does not import the playlist into the playlist-screen in the media-library in my Zen Touch.
Before the stupid firmware-update came out, I used the Creative MediaSource-software, this worked quite well, because I also could import my Windows-Media-Player-Playlists and this was great. But now it does not work anymore. The problem with MediaSource is that after the firmware-update it does not recognize that my Zen Touch is connected with the PC. That is the reason why I cannot use this software to drag my music onto the Zen Touch.
I tried to update my MediaSource via Internet via the auto-update-tool. Now I have mediaSource 3.30.2 but it still does not work. In this forum I read that there is a version 5 avaiable but where can I get it's Would it actually solve the recognizing-problem
Are there maybe other possibilities to solve this problem
    I really need your help!
    Thank you,
    your Dridge from Germany

OK, now I have found the MediaSource5-Software and I have downloaded and installed it. In the startpage there is at the end of the box "transfer playlist" but if I click on it, it says, that my Zen Touch is not connected. Overall the new MediaSource does not recognize my player, like the version 3 did too. But other software is recognizing that the Zen Touch is connected with the PC, like the Windows Media Player 0 or the Media Explorer for PlaysForSure-Devices.
    Please help me!

  • Creative MP3 Players (Especially ZEN Touch 2) durability: satisfied?

    Hello,
I'm willing to buy a ZEN Touch 2, it look so amazing!
However, what I would like to know more: durability!
Is the ZEN Touch 2 (Or any other MP3 Player from Creative) durable enough?
I'll still have the year warrantee, but I'll need to ship it in the US, it'll need to be shipped at another adress in the US, and then shipped back to me (I'm in Canada).
That'll be a though job, you know.
My first MP3 , an Archos .5 Vision, died on me when it ran out of batteries for the first time; strangely, I reloaded it, and it had trouble booting.
My second and actual MP3, Archos 2 Vision, has brokens contacts in the headphone jack... -___-
Well, it still work, but it's really annoying.
If you are a ZEN Touch 2 owner, please give me your feedback!
    Thanks you very much!

Hi Gamex I have a Zen Touch 2 with GPS in the UK. In the first 3 weeks, it froze 3 or 4 times, and then finally died when downloading the Creative update to Android 2.2. You need to be aware that Creative Tech Support seem not to have yet caught up with the fact that they have a new type of MP3 player, and all the Knowledgebase articles they will refer you to are not relevant, as they deal with the older hard dri've type of player. It took me all but a fortnight of shouting to get them to authorise its return for repair/replacement, which is where it is currently. In addition, if you're going for the GPS model, advertised as 8GB, be aware it's capacity for music etc is a mere 4.gb, and any apps you download will eat into that. The way round this is to buy a big micro SDHC card (I got a 32gb one) which integrates seamlessly into the player. You can opt to put the apps on there if you so wish. That's the bad bit; the good bit is that it looks and feels great, and the touchscreen, while not as responsi've as some, is more than acceptable, to me at least. The sound quality is not as good as some other Creative players, mainly due to the fairly low spec earbuds supplied. Get some good ones, and the sound is fine, although strangely there is no equalizer facility. The FM radio, with RDS, gives quite astonishing reception on the move. You can import playlists from Media Player, but there is no option for crossfading, so you get a fairly significant gap between tracks. There are a fair selection of apps available, including an antivirus one (I see you were asking elsewhere about that) but you cannot access Android market; apps are downloaded from the Ziio website. Battery life is obviously dependant on what you are doing; wifi and GPS use will inevitably eat power before your very eyes. Using it for music was giving me around hours (less than claimed). Video playback (which is also very good) brings that down to around 4 hours. Overall I would say I was a little dissapointed with it, but that said having been without it now for nearly 3 weeks I realise how much I want it back, so it can't be all bad! Hope this helps? Regards Mike F

  • Zen Touch 40 GB: problems transferring music files and playli

    Hi,
Creative Zen Touch 40 GB, one year old<
    [color="#330000">PlaysForSure Firmware 2..0<
    Creative MediaSource Organizer 5.0.38<
    Creative?Sync Manager 5.0.9.0<
    Windows XP Service Pack 2<
527?music (.wma) files on the player; 4205 MB of free space<
I'm finding it increasingly difficult to?transfer music files and playlists to my Zen Touch player now that the amount of free space on it has fallen below 5 GB. More often than not, it's necessary to put the player into Recovery mode, perform a clean-up, and then reboot and rebuild the library before Sync Manager works properly. I often need to repeat this process several times before I can transfer anything. Increasingly, too, Windows fails to detect the presence of the player when I connect it to my computer. Rebooting both the player and the computer usually fixes this issue. Transferring files by dragging and dropping in Windows Explorer is obviously much quicker than using Sync Manager, but here again I keep running into problems. It's as if the player freezes and refuses to take on-board any more files. Also, I can't find a way to transfer playlists except with Sync Manager. Are these known problems? I recalling running into similar issues with the Zen Touch 20 GB a few years ago. And could the fact that I'm doggedly using an old (998) and underpowered computer be an issue? I'm thinking of replacing the computer anyway, but is it likely that these synchronization problems would diminish or disappear altogether if I were to upgrade to something speedier? Thanks for any insights,Pete

I too have a simular problems! Managing music is the biggest problem with over 0 Gigs. Some artists songs sometimes change name titles, artists,?and etc. Win Explorer is most used by me now. Yes, I do lose sync from time to time! Especially when I open two windows on the portable zen. There are two tools that need. . Playlist management - it takes too long to do it on the player. I want to create "Gym Vibes" and had it on my old creative?Nomad player, but couldn't transfer. "Creative Sync Manager" doesn't do it!?Without all that sync stuff how can I create and edit creative's playlist on a PC?2. A method for detecting dupicates? This is my second creative portable and if I don't get the tools I won't buy another!

  • Zen Touch no longer uses fold

At some point after an update (not sure if it was firmware or an update to MediaSource as I have applied both in the last 2 months) my 20GB Zen Touch stopped storing music in logical artist/album folders. Instead it stores all music files in the root folder of the player.
I realise the player does not need folders to operate correctly, and that it organises the files by their ID3 tags, BUT...
It has a 20 Gigabyte storage capacity, and so if ALL the files go into a single root folder my poor PC struggles and hangs as it tries to list the files whenever I open up MediaSource. There are way too many files in a single folder for it to run smoothly.
It makes MediaSource almost unusable. Why has this been done, and how do I fix it's

Can you see any files on your Zen Touch using Windows Explorer? I have the latest driver installed on mine (with Windows XP), and all my music is still under "artist" folders under the "Media" folder. I don't use Mediasource. I always found it WAY too slow and clunky to use. I am using WMP now, which seems to work much better than MediaSource to synch music (and now creates playlists). As you know, WMP uses tags like the Zen itself, so you don't see or don't use folder structure. The only downside I've found to totally replacing MediaSource with WMIP is that I can't edit tags on the player itself without Mediasource. So, I just delete them, edit on PC and copy them back.

  • Zen Touch 40GB is absolutely GRE

(This is further to my post in the thread "Experience with your Creative Player" ten days ago.)
    Hello everybody,
two and a half weeks ago I received my Zen Touch 40GB and right from the beginning I was very happy with it -- easy to operate without having to use any kind of manual, reliable, beautiful, great sound quality, etc.
Now, two and a half weeks later, this positi've judgement has become even stronger. The Zen Touch is really extraordinary! Battery life second to none, sound quality absolutely amazing (also when connecting it to my harman/kardon amplifier), good software (MediaSource Organizer), solid and reliable feel, Zen software never crashed, touchpad easy to operate after some initial training, display excellent, easy to navigate through the menus, etc.
In the beginning I was very sceptical whether to spend that much money on an MP3 player, and also a bit sceptical whether I had chosen the right one (since there are many to choose from and there seems to be no immediate "first choice"). But today I'm more than happy with my purchase and couldn't imagine living without the Zen Touch 40GB anymore.
The most amazing thing about it is simply the sound quality -- I keep listening to Jennifer Larmore singing Caesar's air "Va tacito" from Haendel's opera "Giulio Cesare in Egitto" (Julius Caesar in Egypt, HWV 7, 723), and it is stunning how crisp and clear the soloist's voice mixes with the outstanding horns and the beautiful harpsichord sound, etc... This alone is worth it. Having all my CDs in a belt-pocket everywhere I go is, in and of itself, another reason for such a device.
OK, nuff said; I can honestly recommend this little gem!
    David
<SPAN class=time_text>PS: For listening to operas an MP3 player is actually perfect since there is no need to change CDs -- I created a playlist for each opera, put the headphones on, lie down in my bed, and enjoy hours of musical delight without any breaks ;-)

I just got my Zen Touch 40GB 2 days ago. I was surprised that it was slightly smaller than by Zen Xtra.
My only concern with it is the operating system. Its missing many features compared to the Zen Xtra, some of which I really miss like the Tabbed View.
And one annoying little detail, When a song is playing and you accidently touch the Touch Pad it automatically goes to the Seleced Music screen (Why?) If you press Pause in this area the song with just complete stop. And you have to start the song all over agian.
Hopefully this little annoyance can be corrected in a Firmware upgrade.
Also why isn't Creative advertising the 40GB player? All there pages still show the 20GB.Message Edited by TimT on 0-7-2005 03:25 PM

  • (Zen touch) Is there a way to do a file count for Nomad Explor

Hi. I just got my Zen Touch. It rocks, but I was wondering if there's a way to count how many files are actually in the NOMAD Explorer. Can anyone help? Thanks.

I'm sure my NJB3 tells me somewhere. Is there a place you can view the firmware version? I'm thinking it's around there somewhere, if it hasn't been removed from the Touch. I know that Notmad Explorer gives very clear details.
To save the tracks as a playlist, just queue them all up then hit the scroller and choose "save as playlist". Of course you can do a similar thing in the software by creating a playlist and then copying the tracks into it.
