Zenworks 11.3 ThinClient bundles

Hi all,
After upgrading from 11.2.4 to 11.3, our RDP bundles do not work any more. The message is "error running ThinClient action the system cannot find the specified file". These bundles still work on 11.2.4. I have seen this TID 7013051 and have tried with these MS patches and without. This is a Windows 7 Pro 64bit client.
Has anyone seen this or know how to fix it?
Thanks, Jeff

for the first server you patch bring down the Zenservices on all other primaries but the one you want to patch.
.. bad readme ;-)
ran into the same with the win8.1 update.. and now that seems to be hip..
that makes really fun in a production environment with many servers..
kind regards

  • Bundle install without workstation login

    Greetings,
I have created new bundles, however the will not install unless the user is logged into the workstation.
Can anyone tell me how to get a bundle to install without having to log into the workstation?
I need to install them after hours when users are not around.
    Thank you.

Note: Either the Content-Repo can be used in lieu of a Share or you can
use the "Credential Vault" to access the Windows Share Securely w/o
anyone logged-on w/o needing to open up any type of unsecured access.

  • ZENworks 11 problem opening files

we have a problem opening files that are located in folders with spaces in their names.
for example; I am trying to open an excel file named test.xlsx located in "S:\Test Folder\Excel Files"
I have created a bundle that opens the text.xlsx... our older version of ZEN had no issues with this but with ZEN 11 I get the following errors:
    1. the file Test cannot be found
    2. the file Folder\Excel cannot be found
    3. the file Files\test cannot be found
Seems like it breaks it down everytime it sees a space in the name... anyone know the cure for this?
    Thanks.

    Jeffb6000,
Jeff, this forum is for the product ZENworks Package Management, i.e.,
Adminstudio, sounds like you have a general query about bundles, and
there's a forum for that. If you want to post in the
    novell.support.zenworks.configuration-management.11.bundles.windows
forum, someone can help - do make sure you say exactly how you are
specifying the path, and how the action is being run (if it's not run
as the logged-in user, you won't see the mapped drives for example)

  • Mixed mode vs Zenworks integration

In the docs for version 7.0.3, "Using Zenworks with Novell Service Desk", "Importing the Zenworks user source to Novell Service Desk" it is said:
Mix Mode: Ensure No is enabled. Internal Authentication is not supported by ZENworks.
I wonder if someone could elaborate on that. I understand that I cannot perform Zenworks remote control or bundle management on customers who do not exist in the Zenworks LDAP user source, but is there a reason why I can't have such customers in Service Desk at all?

As you mentioned Remote Management and Bundle Assignment feature will not work for Internal Customer. Remote Management may work if you create proper relationships between internal customer with ZENworks hardware but it is not guaranteed.

  • Troubleshooting a failed bundle installation

ZCM 10.3.1. Installing GroupWise per this:
    http://www.novell.com/communities/no...using-zenworks
I created three bundles and then created a bundle group to install
them. The first two bundles installed fine (a single msi file in
each). The third bundle was an msi with the option to include all
files in and below the directory of this file. From the Event Viewer
    I see:
Product: GroupWise -- Error 2324.Could not open file: C:\Program Files

Product: GroupWise -- Installation operation failed.
Windows Installer installed the product. Product Name: GroupWise.

gwab1.ocx does exist in the folder that was uploaded to the ZCM server
when the bundle was created. Any suggestions as to why it wouldn't be
able to find the file during the installation?
    Regards,
    Ken

    hi ken
i have this gwab1.ocx also sometimes....i really dont know, what it causes.
i setup the hole thing from a network share and file-size should be okay.
    i also openend a ticket.
i had this also with normal setup, without zenworks....;-)
will report if i find something

    >>> KeN Etter<[email protected]> 25.03.2011 13:44 >>>
I don't know what caused this, but I do know how to work around it
now. I was uploading files to my ZCM server with the Zenworks File
Upload Extension for Firefox. The files were in a folder on my
Netware server. Uploading from that location resulted in all files
having a 0 KB size except for the MSI file. I copied the folder to my
C: drive and uploaded from that location and the files were all the
    correct size.

  • Naming workstations - setting host name

I would like to know if there is a way to set host names for multiple
computers once I re-image them with the same base image. I was thinking I
could create a bunch of reg keys something like "lab1-01", "lab1-02" etc.
and register computers in the lab as per their physical location.
It seems though that all their host names will remain the same as per the
original one of the base image. I then can not remote via the host name
unlike with Zen 7 when I could do that in ConsoleOne which did not rely on
host names I believe. So ideally I would like to have an easy way to
populate host names ( and maybe computer names, too ) during registration,
is that at all possible ?
    Andrew

I am pretty sure that ZCM 10 also has a policy or setting, which if I
remember is not enabled by default, which will rename the device names
    if the workstation name changes.
    Here it is ...
Configuration | Device Management | Registration
At the bottom is a section called "Device Dynamic Rename", with t a
checkbox for "Enable automatic renaming of devices". Here is what the
    help file says:
    Device Dynamic Rename
The Device Dynamic Rename panel lets you enable devices to be renamed,
if necessary, whenever they refresh their registration information. A
device might need to be renamed for the following reasons:
The naming template being applied to the device has changed.
A different naming template (for example, a folder naming
template rather than the Management Zone naming template) is now being
    applied to the device.
Because a devices GUID and not its name is used for all relationships
with other ZENworks objects (folders, groups, bundles, policies, and so
forth), renaming the device does not affect anything other than the name
that is displayed in ZENworks Control Center.
You can define this setting at two levels:
Management Zone: The setting is inherited by all devices.
Device Folder: The setting is inherited by all devices contained
within the folder or its subfolders. Overrides the Management Zone setting.
NOTE:If you are configuring the setting on a device folder, you need to
click Override settings before you can modify the setting.

  • Troubleshooting PostPrepare script failed with exit code 1

i get a 'PostPrepare' script failed with exit code '1' message on one of the bundles, and i think i am missing some obvious thing
it is a simple file bundle, to distribute a pdf printer:
    it distributes 2 files:
    ADIST.PPD to /usr/share/cups/model
    pdf-printer to /usr/lib/cups/backend
(script based upon Cool Solutions: A CUPS PDF Printer for your SUSE Linux Enterprise Desktop
then it should execute a pre-installation script that executes:

    rccups restart
    mkdir -p /export/share/pdf
    chmod -R 777 /export
    lpadmin -p Desktop-PDF -v pdf-writer:/export/share/pdf/ -E -P /usr/share/cups/model/ADIST5.PPD -D "PDF Writer for CUPS" -L "PDF on desktop"
manually placing the files on these locations and executing the script works fine

the files are not copied to their destination
the target directories are available, writable by root (obviously) there are no files with the same name available, adding a trailing slash to the target path does not help (but other bundles have no trailing slash and run ok)
    questions:
where are the temporary files copied to?
where/how can i find what might be causing the preinstall error?
should i delete previous versions of the bundle in zlm

until you delete the previous version in zlm and do a rug ref... or is this as designed
When you make changes to the bundle you need to apply them. That creates a new version and then you need to deploy that new version. Apply and deploy are on the same page. But I guess you know that.
If you already did that and still had problems, it might be the zen loader that needs a little bit more time. Once you hit deploy, a zen queue entry gets created that informs the zen loader to update the bundle xml file in the file repository. That file is delivered to the managed device when it queries for bundle information. So if that bundle xml contains the old version, the client will see that.
Problems here can be that the zen loader simply needs a few seconds longer then when you change to the device and run rug ref. Or there can be other queue entries that get processed and the bundle xml update is just in the queue and waiting. The zen loader has 5 slots for processing queue entries.
On the zlm server you can run "zlman ql I" for in progress entries and "zlman ql N" for new state entries that ned to be processed.
Or you can use the short script I posted (Cool Solutions: Monitor ZLM queue entries with Nagios) that shows you in one line how many and what type of queue entries currently exist. This is what I always use to get a overview about the queue status.

  • .app packages being delivered corrupted

I'm thrilled that I now have management of Macs available through ZENworks, but our first bundle is proving to be a bit of a chore. Trying to test what I though would be a simple deployment of TextWrangler.app to the /Applications directory has so far been doomed.
Having to use the Install Directory action, as the file uploader greys out TextWrangler.app as both a file and a directory, so placed .app in a directory and then selected that directory. Have tried as both mutiple files and single package with the same result, a zeroK file in the /Applications directory.
Can anyone suggest what I might be doing wrong?

The difference what i observed is that, when i set the Permission mode to 644(which is the default) i am observing the issue as mentioned by you. But later when i changed the permission mode to 777 i could get the install file action working perfectly. Let me know if you can get the app working by changing the permission mode to 777.
But i will still investigate on why the app doesnt work with the permission mode 644.
    Thanks,
    Vedha
Veda, thanks for the pointer. I had been looking at the get info window for the permissions, trying to replicate the standard in /Applications. Of course all three users should have execute permission. Looking at the permissions in terminal gives the true permissions. It's strange that zcm deletes the content if execute isn't enabled!
So now I have set as rwx, rx and rx and the app delivers ok.

  • Apply add-on bundle without Zenworks agent installed?

    Hi all,
I've created an add-on image file from a bundle within ZCC, but I can't apply it when imaging a computer. It says it can't find any installed Zenworks agent, and that is true, since it is not part of the base image. Instead it gets installed when Windows boots up.
I found this post that says you can use another add-on image to create an empty directory structure on the computer before you apply the add-on image, thus fooling it to believe the agent is installed.
This doesn't seem to work here, though, maybe because we have 64-bit Windows 7. I changed the directory structure to reflect the C:\Program Files (x86)\ folder, but it doesn't seem to work.
Is there any workaround for this, preferrably without having to install the agent within the base image?
    Thanks in advance!
    Regards,
    Pr

Oh well... this was quite silly. I found the answer myself, and it seems that if you only create an add-on image with empty folders, it will not be created on the workstation (although there was no message to indicate that). But when I put a dummy text file into the \Program Files (x86)\Novell\ZENworks\work folder, the structure was created and I was able to push out the add-on image file afterwards without the agent installed.

  • Zenworks Bundles not showing up

On my Windows 7 machines, I have users who will not get the Bundles on their Desktops. After refreshing, rebooting finally it will come up, but it might take 3 or 4 times.
Today I looked at my message logs.

I'm getting these messages. Any suggestion?

  • Empty ZENworks Window(NAL) upon login-April 2013 follow-up

I know this is from an older post back on April 9, 2013, but I am still experiencing the same issue. I have troubleshooted this to no end since then, but have not come up with a solution yet. Since the original post, I have upgraded my ZENworks servers to 11.2.3a and have done the same on my clients. Sometimes the only solution I can find is to uninstall and re-install the ZENworks agent. I can't seem to find what is causing this as the issue is sporadic and not occurring everywhere.
Any ideas? I have copied the original post below.
    Thanks.
    Scott
There is a cache corruption issue that I am also experiencing that I believe
MU2 and now 3a resolves. I have had to do exactly what you are doing.
waiting for the early adapters to shake out the current SP before I install.

I am having periodic issues in which users report that the ZENworks
Application Window is empty upon login. The bundles are shortcuts to run
..exe files that are installed on the workstations, web url shortcuts,
shortcuts to run .exe files on a network server. These bundles will not
show up when there are or are not requirements for the bundle and does
not depend on the user that logs in. I have the shortcut for the
ZENworks Application Window in the "Startup" folder for all user in
    WinXP and in the c:\programdata\microsoft\windows\start
    menu\programs\startup .
What I have found that works to get the applications to re-appear for
the users is to re-register the computer with - zac reg -g
    https://servername .
    The particulars:
    ZENworks version-11 sp2
    ZENworks servers - four(4) primary servers; Windows 2008R2 sp1
    ZENworks database - Windows 2008R2 sp1; SQL 2008R2 sp2
workstation OS - Windows 7 or WindowsXP
    Windows 2008R2 AD domain
Any thoughts on why this happens?
    Thank you.

This sounds like it could be the problem we had with earlier ZCM
versions that the local db cache would get corrupt in the ZEN agent,
causing the machine to appear as if it's unmanaged. To help identify
if you might still be experiencing this, the next time this happens
would you do a zac cc followed by a zac ref on the machine and see if
    the bundles come back?

  • Run Script action not working when verifying bundle

I have a critical "Run Script" action in a bundle. When verifying the bundle, the script doesn't seem to run and the verify action hangs indefinitely.
I see the following lines in the ZCM Log:
    Code:
[DEBUG] [07/21/2011 19:05:48.670] [5880] [runscriptenf] [1] [TeachGH] [Run Script Action] [] [Found script engine cmd.exe. Not using it since cmd.exe does not take parameters.] [] []

nothing else is logged after those 2 lines. It seems like ZCM decides not to run the script for some reason, but is still waiting for it to complete? Or is it possible that it has moved onto the next action, but it is hanging there and not reporting it to the log?
I have no time to troubleshoot right now, will do so in depth tomorrow. Just wanted to get this posted in case anybody has a clue.

Nevermind, the next action is running, and that is what is hanging, which I doubt is Zenworks fault... Time for some more troubleshooting.

  • Error when creating a bundle or policy

    Hi
We are running ZCM 10.3 on SLES10 and when we try to create a bundle or policy we get an error after pressing the finish button.
The wizard cannot continue for the following reason(s):
Unable to complete your request for the following reason: com.novell.zenworks.datamodel.exceptions.InternalD ataModelException: com.novell.zenworks.datamodel.exceptions.InternalD ataModelException: org.hibernate.exception.ConstraintViolationExcepti on: could not insert collection: [com.novell.zenworks.datamodel.objects.assignableco ntent.AssignableContentObject.ContentServers#9b5f6 6c5a47022d1c5b51b098392d30a]
It has worked before and we have 120 bundles in the system, and we have been running 10.3 for a while now without problems.
I've atteched the log on the error.
Sorry for the big logfile-dump but I wasn't sure on what I could delete so I copied it all.
Any ideas or should I log a SR?
    Best regards
    /Jonas

Did you ever solve this issue? We are experiencing the same errors, but with ZCM 11. Server configurstion is Windows Server 2008R2, database is MS SQL 2005.
Every time we try to create or change a (Windows) bundle or policy there's an error message in ZCC. The error is:
    com.novell.zenworks.datamodel.exceptions.InternalD ataModelException: com.novell.zenworks.datamodel.exceptions.InternalD ataModelException: org.hibernate.exception.ConstraintViolationExcepti on: could not insert collection: [com.novell.zenworks.datamodel.objects.assignableco ntent.AssignableContentObject.ContentServers
...followed by a different GUID(?) every time.
We've placed a SR but haven't had any suggestions from Novell yet - we're soon going from calm to panic as we are planning to move from test to production in two weeks...
    Cheers,
    Peter

  • Shutdown directive bundle doesn't allow windows updates

I have a directive bundle to shutdown a machine. The bundle works fine in terms of shutting down the machine at the appointed time, however, what it does not seem to do, at least on Windows 7, is to apply any updates.
If you have pending updates to apply, choosing, Start/Shutdown will shutdown the computer and apply updates. This doesn't work with the ZCM 10 directive bundle to shutdown.
    Any ideas why?
