ZFS/ZPool reports incorrect sizes? Missing space?

I am currently setting up a ZFS Fileserver comprised of 750 GB drives, but I am confused about what zfs list and zpool list report for sizes.
bash-3.00# zpool create tank mirror c3d0 c4d0
bash-3.00# zpool list
NAME SIZE USED AVAIL CAP HEALTH ALTROOT
tank 696G 90K 696G 0% ONLINE -
bash-3.00# zfs list
NAME USED AVAIL REFER MOUNTPOINT
tank 87K 685G 24.5K /tank
What "format" reports for the two drives, c3d0, c4d0:
2. c3d0 <WDC WD75- WD-WCAPT044073-0001-698.63GB>
/pci@0,0/pci-ide@5,1/ide@0/cmdk@0,0
3. c4d0 <WDC WD75- WD-WCAPT044003-0001-698.63GB>
/pci@0,0/pci-ide@5,1/ide@1/cmdk@0,0
So.. 698.63 GiB is how much it SHOULD be.. but "zpool list" shows 696 GiB, and "zfs list" shows 685 GiB.
This difference of 2% scales up as well, it's only 13 GiB in this setup, but with 12 x 750 GB drives it becomes around 200 GiB which is just "missing".
I've searched all over for things like zfs overhead or reserved space but I can't find anything (except for the zfs reservation property, which is set to "none").
Can anyone shed some light on this?

Can anyone shed some light on this?Your math is errant for starters.
698.63 - 696 = 2.63, not 13.
The percentage is about 4/10 of one percent (2.63/698.63 = .0037---). Move the decimal place two to the right for a percentage value.
Scaling 2.63 (lost) to 12 drives ~= 31 GB.
Any other questions?

  • NSS Volume reporting incorrect size

    Hi
    I have an NW65 SP7 Server, with an NSS volume USERS. According to iManager it is 292GB, with 184GB available, but Windows sees it as 230GB with 121GB free. At least they both agree roughly on how much used space there is...
    I tried allowing the volume to grow to pool size, and now it says
    Quota: 0.00 MB
    Available Space: 313143.27 MB
    Used Space: 111584.32 MB
    Purgeable Space: 30065.82 MB
    But windows still sees the same space. Any idea what's going on there, and how I might fix it?
    TIA
    Jase

    If this server used to be a 6.5 SP5 server, you may need to rebuild the volume with the following command - nss /poolrebuild=<poolname> /purge. There was an issue in the earlier versions on how information was reported. Also, you may want to check to see if there is a newer mm.nlm than the one you are using.

  • FRSM Randomly Reports Incorrect Quota Usage

    We are using Server 2008 with FSRM 6.1 and are randomly seeing some quotas reporting incorrectly that they are at 100%. If the folder is checked they are well under the quota but FRSM still reports it as 100% even after a refresh.
    The only way that I have seen the quotas reporting as normal is when we delete them and recreate them but it returns a few weeks later.
    This is only happening on one file server (we have several that FRSM manages the quota allocations for) and disk compression has not been turned on for that volume. This also is not happening to every quota on that volume, only some.
    Any ideas?

    Hi,
    Firstly, please refer to the thread to check if the disk usage of the folder is reported correctly:
    Server 2008R2 reports disk size/free space incorrectly in explorer and disk manager
    http://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/bf5445d5-e796-4cbb-9571-8639b900cfd4/server-2008r2-reports-disk-sizefree-space-incorrectly-in-explorer-and-disk-manager?forum=winserverfiles
    Then check if your current account have permissions to access subfolders. If the user does not have permission to access all subfolder. The size of some folders will not be counted with right click on a folder.

  • Tiger reporting hard drive free space incorrectly.

    A client of mine has an iMac G5 running Tiger. For some reason it is reporting the free drive space as incorrect.
    I have run all of the common utilities (fsck, repair, etc.) and still not solved.
    The drive is a 160 GB and it show only 3 GB free.

    PowerMac G4 & iBook G3   Mac OS X (10.4.2)

    This may happen sometimes if:
    1. You use Carbon Copy Cloner and force quit a clone before it is finished. It will leave something behind in Finder's Go menu -> Go to Folder -> Enter in the field:
    /Volumes/
    and click on Go.
    2. This may happen if you have an old version of the MacAlly iShock drivers. There was a situation where its logfiles would suddenly grow exponentially.
    Those are two things I'm aware that leave behind huge piles of debris that don't clean up after a restart.
    Burning CDs and DVDs if interrupted may leave behind large temporary files, though I don't know where that would be, and typically when you restart the computer that clears up.
    It may be possible that your client accidently hit the Duplicate keyboard shortcut (command-D) while having a very large folder selected, thus actually making himself twice as big a folder somewhere. Use the program Whatsize to determine where the largest data source is:

  • Encore is Reporting incorrect Blu-Ray Project size/length

    Hello,
    I've exported a 45 minute Premiere project into mpeg-2 bluray, and the file is about 10 gb. When bringing into encore and creating a timeline, the video is correct, but audio track is about 15 times longer than the video, and reported project size is 215gb.
    I can play the file correctly in media player and premiere - any ideas?
    Thanks a million,
    Jonathan

    Jonathan,
    You've covered a lot of ground since my last post!
    You should be able to see the issue in Pr - I can.
    Try playing the H.264 file in either Quicktime player (if you have it installed) or KMPlayer (my favorite "free" player).  If you don't see artifacts there, then the MC keyframe issue is not the problem.
    You should try CBR and any other parameter variations you can think of - that's what I'm doing here.  In my tests, moving the keyframes closer together just results in more frequent artifacts.  But that can be a good thing when you're testing.   I'm still researching this issue.
    For your tests, make sure you are using unique file names each and every time you export from Pr; otherwise En will get very fussy and start giving you errors.
    Also, while testing different file lengths and encoding schemes, you should be using a dedicated test project in En.  Don't go anywhere near your real project.
    Please heed Jon's advice and use a BD-RE for all of your test burns to disc.  As he does, I test disc images by mounting them with SlySoft's VirtualCloneDrive (also free).
    What is your source material in Pr?  Is it some form of 24p or 24pa HDV?  Is it any form of 24p?  If so, make sure it's interpreted correctly in Pr, and then make sure that En interprets the MPEG2 output from Pr correctly.

  • Hierarchy function could not complete coz of missing space

    Hi All,
    Iam having a issue "<b>Hierarchy function could not complete because of missing space</b>" when iam expanding a hierarchy( with 37k lines) in report, rest of the hierarchies( with 34k, 36k lines) are fine.
    Even that hierarchy in question working fine after i refresh query, its giving that problem after few refreshes again.
    Can any body please advice me why this one happening like this.
    Regards
    Robyn.

    Hi,
    A couple of things I would check here :
    Try the same thing using the web and see if the behaviour is the same. This is to elimate that the excel is causing the problem. Second try to observe the system activity in both cases, when its working fine and the other when its not refreshing properly. Hierarchies do tend to take time in reporting depending on the data.
    Also check the cache settings and temp table space. You can work with basis to see if the temp table space needs to be extended.
    In addition, have multiple users try running the report and check how the hierarchy is behaving.
    Cheers,
    Kedar

  • PDF Format Oracle Reports font size is not consistent.

    My process is generating the batch oracle Reports.
    Their key map is:
    Key1: %* server=server1 userid=xxxs/xxx@xxxx report=D:\sample.rdf destype=file desformat=PDF
    My process is calling IAS server to generate report. IAS server is generating and saving the report in the specified location. The problem is sometimes the report font size is very tiny (especially headers & footers), it is happening for few reports. What could be the reason is there anyway to make sure that always the generated reports font size is good.

    it is happening for few reportsSo is the problem that the same reports-module sometimes has the right font and sometimes not, or is there one report which has always the wrong font?

  • Attribute "Report Layout" is missing in the "Print Attributes" tab for IR

    Hallo,
    The attribute “Report Layout” is missing in the “Print Attributes” tab for an interactive report?
    How to alter the report layout (xsl-fo) of an interactive report?
    Has someone any idea where to configure this?
    Btw, for the "classic" SQL Report the XSL-FO "Report Layout" can be cahnged in "Print Attributes" and this works fine for me. But I want to change the xsl-fo for the interactive report.
    "If you do not select a report layout, a default XSL-FO layout is used. The default XSL-FO layout is always used for rendering Interactive Report regions. ... Unlike classic reports, the Interactive Report Print Attributes can only utilize the default XSL-FO layout and is initiated from the Report Attributes, Download section rather than directly from this screen. Once configured, these attributes only apply only to the current region and cannot be used outside the context of the region."
    http://apex.oracle.com/i/doc/bldapp_rpt_print.htm
    How can the "default XSL-FO layout" be changed?
    Changing is necessary because the Apache FOP 1.0 reports the following error (for the transmitted default XSL-FO):
    "fo:simple-page-master", "fo:region-body" must be declared before "fo:region-before"
    http://www.w3.org/TR/xsl/#fo_region-before
    The default report layout is not saved in:
    select * from APEX_040000.WWV_FLOW_REPORT_LAYOUTS
    Thx, Willi

    I've found two workaround for getting Apache FOP 1.0 to work with Oracle Apex 4.0 for PDF printing of interactive reports:
    1, Use an application process to set your custom layout for interactive reports:
    [ ] grant all on APEX_040000.WWV_RENDER_REPORT3 to {YOUR_SCHEMA_NAME};
    [ ] Create an Application Process e.g. "Custom Report Layout" with constraint for request 'PDF' and Process Text:
    declare
    v_xsl varchar2(32767);
    begin
    v_xsl := '<?xml version = ''1.0'' encoding = ''utf-8''?>
    <xsl:stylesheet version="2.0"
      <fo:region-body region-name="region-body" margin-top="54.0pt" margin-bottom="54.0pt"/>
      <fo:region-before region-name="region-header" extent="54.0pt"/>
    </xsl:stylesheet>';
    APEX_040000.WWV_RENDER_REPORT3.g_prn_template := v_xsl;
    end;2, If you have some knowlege in Java change the sequnce of the the nodes in the apex_fop.jsp (or servlet), ie. changing the xsl before you use it for transformation.
    The code depends on the solution you are using to parse the xsl string.
    Hope this may help someone,
    Willi

  • Mirrored RAID:  MediaKit reports block size error

    I am trying to create a 2nd set up backup drives for my photos.  I have two new iomega 2TB drives, which look essentially identical to drives I'm currently using as my primary backups as a mirrored RAID set.
    I can start the process with freshly erased and reformatted drives (with the default mac format, extended, journaled, unencrypted, not case-sensitive).  And after a minute or three, I see
    "MediaKit reports block size error, usually caused by not being a multiple of 512."
    The RAID options are Mirrored RAID, Mac extended journaled, and options settings are default.
    I see several series of posts with complaints about encrypting RAIDs and disk block sizes, but not unencrypted errors.   I actually started out trying to do this with the 2006 MBP running 10.6.8 and got a different error:  "POSIX reports:  the operation couldn't be completed. Operation not permitted."  I wasn't sure whether the 2TB RAID I already have was set up iwth the older or newer computer--it was definitely before I put Lion on this one--so I tried this one and now have a different error.
    Any idea what the problem might be?

    Update:  I spent some time on the phone with an Apple support RAID expert, and couldn't figure out what the error was; we couldn't bypass it by playing with partitions on the drives, or any of another couple of manuevers that I've already forgotten.  He noted that his own searches were showing a lot of mentions of similar problems but only with Iomega drives, and he was finding the same links I found earlier about problems creating encrypted drives.  Now trying to decide if it's worth throwing more good money after bad for a call with Iomega support, and waiting to see if the iomega forum is at all helpful.
