ZXR Mic quality

I'm led to believe the Z and the ZX have issues with the mic where it's hard to hear without boost, low quality with "Noise Reduction" on, or with boost on and NR off, full of distracting static. I'm getting the same issue with my ZXR - can someone confirm whether this is normal?

Hello, TM. In my opinion, the quality of the GarageBand podcast sound you hear is likely far more effected by the quality of the external speakers you use with your PowerBook than which mic you choose. Moreover, I doubt that any $10 mic would come close to the sound quality of iSight's internal mic.
In my experience, the external iSight's mic works fine with GarageBand 3 Set the GarageBand > Preferences... > Audio/MIDI > Audio Input: Choices Bar to "iSight" and give it a try. (External iSights must be plugged in to see the "iSight" choice in the Choices Bar.)
Audio professionals or those who do not have any interest in iSight's camera section may find a separate or professional quality microphone appealing, but if you already have an iSight, give your iSight's mic a try before spending money on an external mic only to be used for podcasting.

  • Bad USB mic quality with Vista and 4GB *F

Finally. After spending many, many nights up until the AM searching and troubleshooting I've finally found a solution to my problem. The problem being awful mic quality on my Vista 64, 4GB machine with my Logictech USB mic. The solution has come in an untested hotfix from Microsoft which I found by accident while checking some nerd forum.
    http://support.microsoft.com/kb/933433/en-us
You need to request the fix from Microsoft and they'll email you a link to download it with a password.
I now sound crystal clear on vent and I'm over the moon. I hope this will help others too.

  • Recording an acoustic guitar through the internal mic - quality terrible

    Hey guys,
I have had my MacBook Pro for almost a year now, and since I got it I always used Garageband to record stuff straight from my acoustic through the internal mic. Now, it seems like after 5 or so seconds, the sound quality goes way down, and I get some sort of flange-like effect. Everything starts sounding really muddy and the strumming turns into really bass-y noise. I haven't made any changes or anything, and I tried it with vocals and guitar, guitar, and vocals, each have the same effect. The sound quality sounds fine on playback for the first few seconds and then it drops. No effects are enabled - its on basic track.
Any suggestions? This is extremely irritating!
    Thanks for your time,
    Jon

    hey there skank,
i don't know what's wrong w/ your Mac, but it maybe time to invest in an external mic, an outboard mixer or a digital(FW/USB) interface & mic combo. i don't think the internal is the greatest for making music. just a thought. a mdest mixer from Behringer is around $60.00 & a decent cardioid dynamic mic is around $80.00-100.00.
    good luck.

  • Nb205 internal mic quality

My internal microphone for my nb205 sounds extremely muffled when I use it...is this normal due to the quality of internal mics in general? I can't tell if its defective or if this is just how it is. please advise

I purchased this laptop last month. The internal mic seemed to work well with skype during the first week or two, but now everyone complains of barely being able to hear me, and skype reports to me also that the mic is low... I have tried different ideas to rectify the situation using the realtec master volume/mic volume functions, but nothing is working. What's wrong here?

  • SB ZXR Mic Feedback/echoing issues!!

    Here is my setup.
    Reciever: Onkyo HT-R330
    5.1 Speakers
I am using the nice looking mic that came with the SB ZXR card and i am using DTS Encoding for my speaker setup.
Everything sounds great but my mic!!!!! i cant for the life of me get rid of the **** feedback and echoing when i test it in SB Control panel
I have tried to go into properties and lower the Mic Boost level. But this cuts my voice off in the middle of me speaking and the echoing is still there.
yes i have tried turning on Accustic echo cancellation and noise cancellation.
Ive got the mic plugged into the Mic in Jack on my Sound Card.
    HELP!!!!

okay it seems to only happen when i test the mic with my speakers on.
But i tried doing a skype test call and everything sounds fine.
Dont know why i get such horrific feedback/echoing when testing it?
im guessing its because my speakers are repeating what im saying into the mic a second time perhaps?

  • Mic quality

I got my headset today. Installed, Got on vent and they said it sounded like i was talking into a bucket or something. I looked at my settings and it said i was using channel, 6 bit tape recorder quality. Anyone know how to fix?

That tape recorder setting happens to be the first one on the list of qualities. It's greyed out, so don't pay attention to it.
Test your vent settings yourself with the "Test with" section using speex, 32,6,5. If it sounds fine then you're headset is good. If not do you have a couple microphones? Perhaps one built into your monitor or laptop? Check to make sure the headset is your default input device. If it's not then that voice they're hearing is from a different mic positions further away, which would explain crap quality.

  • Sound blaster zxr mic problem

    Hi,
I know this issue has been discussed, but still no solution.
Problem is that when i use mic on skype, my friends says my voice sounds damped and bass rich. It helps if i turn crystalizer off but then it gets static noise from somewhere(like fan humming).
Too pricy card to have this kind of issues unsolved.
    Software related?

Can you retry your ZXR microphone with Skype again but with the SBX ProStudio effects turned off? I think your noise cancellation wedge setting in the control panel may be too narrow, so you get the muffled voice sound instead of a light, airy sound.

I tested Skype and Viber but the app doesn't matter. My conversationalist hear me very, very bad: there are crackle, sometimes he nothing hear or hear very quiet. Simply he he can understand every other my word.
I've got very good conection quality from Wi-Fi, conversationalist also. He talks with other people on Skype and he doesn't have any problems with them.

    Hi,
    Any USB Mic
Any USB 2 UVC (USB Video Class) compatible web cam.
Any Firewire Cam  (This may depend on whether you have Firewire 800 and can find a suitable Firewire camera).
Generally you cannot use standard 3.5mm jack mics as these tend to be Lo-Line in devices, where as the Mac inputs demand Hi-Line in devices ( a sort of "pre-amped" device).
Older USB 1.1 cameras needed a Mac Driver in most cases (there were at least two third party generic drivers).
In the case of iChat you also needed a Utility to convert the input to the "right" form for iChat.
Almost all USB 2 cameras are UVC compliant and are what you will find on the shelf of most stores.

  • Quality of handsfree car kit

I have recently changed from a nokia n50 phone that was hardwired into my car with a nokia ck-7w kit. quality was really good although the phone rubbish. my company have now upgraded the phone to a 6301 phone but have installed in the car with the same kit but not hardwired through the bluetooth function. The quality for what i hear is ok but people trying to hear me say the quality is appalling and it sounds like I am in a fish bowl. is there anyway of connecting to the same kit hardwired again or improving the quality?
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

There is no way of hardwiring the kit to the 6301, the poor mic quality may be down to phone software, make sure you have the latest software, and make sure the mic is fitted close to the user and facing the correct way.

  • Apple Ear Bud "Mic" vs others

Well, I searched and didn't return anything specific to my question.
I've been using the ear buds the 4s came with.....and I don't dislike the sound. I'm actually happy with sound.
I've been considering buying the upgraded Apple version with the different tips that seal the ear for fit.
The OEM buds, just wont stay in my ear and they are uncomfortable after 20min.
But not a slash on Apple, to me all hard tip buds are uncomfortable eventually.
My slash if there were one would be the cords for Apple products are TOO short. Even the charger.
But anyway, my dilemma is this. My wife loves the sound quality of the Apple mic. Others have also mentioned the difference when I call them now.
When I called her from the car she flat out said that the phone had the best call quality of any of the 10 phones I've ever owned and called her from.
I said well Im actually using ear buds. She couldnt tell the difference between when I switched in car to buds vs phone.
So I myself tried it using buds vs BT ear bud and I could really tell a difference. Amazing.
Not only are the Apple buds very very clear with perfect tone. Bud what I and my wife noticed was the lack of background noise that made the difference. WOW
So, due to the short cord, I'm leaning at a 3rd party pair of buds......but can anyone here compare the mic quality vs Apple buds.
I'm sure any of the 3rd party buds will have sound quality as good or better than Apple, but its the mic/call quality I'm concerned with.
I dont know if the awesomeness comes from the actual Apple mic or the phone doing the magic.....BUT I WANNA KEEP IT.

If you phone is still under warranty, you can take it in to the Genius Bar and have them check it. They will decide if it is covered by warranty or not.

  • Driver Vista for zen mi

Excused I I am one of that he has installed and bought Seen Windows in order to improve my PC, but unfortunately instead improving are found again to me with my Micro unusable Zen that is x do not succeed to find i driver to make to work it. I would appreciate to more soon being able to use it with I affixed to it driver Seen to you. You contact to me if fairies the driver.

Shoot. That's bad. So there is really no way of recording music to it. I've heard that IPod's got a new supporter, that enabels voice recording and has 2 jacks in it, for the headphone and the other for mic-in, which probably can also be used as a Line-In.
The reason I am so interested in Line-In is that I have a MD player which can record music from any device, but the problem with it is that since it is not the Net MD version so there is really no way of transmitting audio files from the MD to PC.
Plus I still can not trust in Zen-Micro's built in Mic quality. No matter how high they rate it, the built in mic can never do better than external mic's that can be connected to the recorder separately.

  • N8 & Shure Music+ Mobile Phone Adapter

Note: Nokia needs to listen-up. Unable to send this mail to Nokia customer care in India through the web form(http://www.nokia.co.in/support/ask-nokia#) as it keeps throwing up a webform.js error. I tried calling up the customer care to ask if they have direct email ID to send the same but nothing came out of it. Obviously I cannot communicate this message over the phone- can I? This is sort of OT but not exactly. If someone from Nokia is reading this, please look into it.
Recently I have purchased a Nokia N8 smart phone and I am trying to pair it up with the following shure headphone  & Music + Mobile Phone Adaptor MPA-3C combination.
    Shure SE-210:
    Shure MPA-3C:
    Following is the problem:
    Shure SE210 Headphones -> Shure Music + Mobile Adapter MPA3-C -> Nokia N8.
See below for connection & electrical details of the Shure Music + Mobile Adaptor's 3.5mm jack:
    http://shure.custhelp.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/3803
I am unable to get this combination to work reliably either for stereo music listening or for phone conversation.
    Following are the observations:
    1. When headphones SE210 is directly connected to the phone(removing Music+ Mobile Adaptor)- the volume levels on speaker and clarity are good.
    2. When the shure SE210 headphones is connected to the N8 through the Shure Music + Mobile Phone Adaptor MPA-3c, the music has static disturbances and phone conversation is shallow and noisy. When the control button(used for receiving and disconnecting calls) in MPA-3C adaptor is pressed the voice through the headphones seems much brighter and clearer but the person on the other end of the line is unable to hear me clearly.
    3. When the MPA-3c is connected to the Nokia N8 there is are two clicks before the jack is fully locked in to the 3.5mm plug. At first lock the speaker(songs) are clear but voice(mic) is poor but when the jack is fully pressed in both the speaker(songs) and the voice(mic) quality is poor.
The shure (excellent)support has conveyed the following:
It sounds like there is a differentiation in the spacing of the contact rings on the MPA-3C and the contact rings inside the phone. I am attaching the wiring documentation for the MPA-3C.
You may have to contact Nokia about their jack. We have never tried the MPA-3C with that phone.
Please let me know how to make the Shure combination work with  Nokia N-8
    Thanks.

I have exactly the same problem with my marshall earphones:
    /t5/Nseries-and-S60-Smartphones/Marshall-minor-earphones-remote-not-working/td-p/892075
I tried them on my HTC desire and the button work, so I don't think it's a hardware problem with different pins size. I'm really disappointed as I use the N8 as my main music player
