Digital Camera very slow to connect to USB in Leopard

Hi All,
Since installing Leopard when I try and connect my camera it takes several minutes to connect. Although plugged in to the USB ports it is not shown in the Profiler (I didn't check after it was connected) Any ideas?
Thanks,
Colin

Hi I had that same problem with my Canon Ixus and Macbook. After checking for updates for a couple of weeks with no luck, I backed the macbook up to an external hard drive using time machine. I then booted the mac from the Leopard DVD, Erased the internal hard disk and did a clean install of leopard. At the end of the installation I was given the option to restore from the time machine backup. This fixed the problem and thanks to time machine all my files, updates and applications where right where I left them. Hats of to apple for making this such a simple process. I remember the old days of spending an entire day to achieve the same with windows, and then you had to reinstall all the patches and service packs again.

  • HT1349 very slow external HDD and usb drive connected to Apple Extreme Router

    Hello
So I got a western digital USB drive (500gig) and western digital Live 2TB.
I bought a new Apple Extreme router and connected them both.
USB drive and external hdd (WD Live 2TB) very slow when connected to Apple Extreme Router, using Lion 10.7 and updated both firmware for router, western digital and Airport Utility.
Slow means, it takes half an hour to copy 200 Mb of file to the WD Live 2TB, and its connected to my router with a gigabit ethernet cable!
Is someone else having the same problem, I thought even over usb I should get around 2-5mb range.
I am using Macbook Pro and 802.11n with Lion 10.7.2
    Please Help

The USB WD 500 gig is connected to the Airport Extreme using a non-powered USB 2.0 hub, only two things a HP printer and the 500 gig is connected through it. I already formatted it to MAC OS Extended Journalled. ANd I think the speed didnt change.
For the WD 2TB Live I didnt format it to anything, started using it out of the box. I just updated its firmware. I was having the same speed even when I directly connected it to my Mac Book Pro using ethernet gigabit cable.
This WD 2TB Live doesnt have any USB 2.0 or USB 3.0 connectors, just the ethernet cable. I wasnt planning to carry it around. Just wanted to use it as a good ol NAS. So then I saw the fix somewhere and connected to this drive via AFP,  afp://MyBookLive._afpovertcp._tcp.local/Public and it become suddenly very fast. Just like how it should be, I easily copied 20 gigs in around 20-25 minutes. (This was dirctly connected to my computer)
So then I thought my problem is solved and disconnected my WD Live and connected it back to the Apple Router again, and the speed became very slow again. Now both the USB 500 gig and this 2TB Live are slow.
Time machine is also very slow.
Thing is I also have a linux and windows machine(in repair, but should be up soon), Since apple is the newest computer I have, I want to make it work on this first. I dont want to use the MACosx journaled on the 2TB right now. Besides formatting the USB 500 gig to this format didnt help with my speed. So the problem can be elsewhere.
    - I will try to get a powered USB hub as woodmeister50 suggested.
    - I dont know how to connect via iCloud as cigame suggested
Please let me know if you guys have any suggestions. I have tested and returned enough routers in past few weeks. I really want it to work on this combination LionOSX + Airport Extreme + WD Live.
    Thanks

    hi
i bought a macbook pro back in summer 2012 and it came with mountain lion but since then Im having a very slow Internet connection. I have one router at my home. my other PC works fine with the Internet even my iphone 4s is way faster with same wifi connection. when I download a TV show on macbook from itunes its takes about 40-50 min to download fully but on my phone or PC it usually takes about 18 mins. and also when I try to watch a hd clip on youtube, I need to put on lowest quality in order to watch it without lagging or stopping midway.
does anyone else have this issue or I have to talk crap about apple product from now on???

Hold down the option key and select the Wi-Fi menu in the menu bar. What values are shown for the following?

  • Very Slow Internet Connection and Backups

I have had a Time Capsule for some time now (1st generation) and it has caused nothing but headaches. I have put up with it for some time but I have a very slow internet connection and cannot leave Time Machine on or it bogs down my machine, so I only backup periodically. Specifics are provided below.
I have a poor internet connection to begin with. When plugged in directly either to my modem or through Ethernet to the Time Capsule, I get download speeds of ~ 2.9 Mbits/sec download, 0.7 Mbits/sec upload. When connected over wireless, the speeds drop to about 0.6 Mbits/sec download, 0.6 Mbits/sec upload. I feel like I am working on dial-up. I have both a Mac and a PC, and speeds are the same on both, so it does not appear to be a computer issue. I have played with various settings in the Airport, including how connected (b-n or n only), DHCP settings, etc, but nothing makes a difference. Any suggestions?

Welcome to the discussion area, bigbrianb!
Have you downloaded a utility like iStumbler to get a look at the signal strength and noise on your wireless network?
iStumbler will display most of the other wireless networks around you, so you'll have an idea of the competition for unused channels. Ideally, you want your network to be on a channel that is at least 4-5 channels away from any other network to minimize the chances of wireless interference. Is that the case there?
Your signal strength should be 50% or greater and noise less than 10% for a good quality connection on your network. Is that the case there?
There are more things to test, but this will get things going.

  • Helix rear camera very slow

I have the thinkpad helix for two months.  The front facing camera works fine, but rear facing camera is very slow: focus slow, and if move the camera a little, picture refreshes very very slow.
I thought this was the problem of driver, so I updated to the latest driver yesterday. However, the problem is still there.
    This makes the camera useless.
Do you also have this problem? Is this a hardware or software problem? How to fix this? Thanks!
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

excactly the same to me. rear camera (if I use the 4:3-5M: Camera-Option instead of 16:9 2,1 M-Camera) it's so slow, you can't work. 16:9 is slow enough.
I think very interesting: if you start the app "skitch" and use the camera -> it works very fast ...
with the "normal" camera app or onenote-app it works very very slow.
    I don't understand the circumstanding ...
some weeks ago there was an update from micrsoft -> another driver was installed and the speed was pretty good, but there was an issue, you couldn't do a foto ...
I didn't find a newer driver for the camera - it's the driver form microsoft 2006 usb-verbundgerät - the newer driver from lenovo only replace the driver for the front camera but not for the rear camera - look at https://forums.lenovo.com/t5/X-Series-Tablet-ThinkPad-Laptops/helix-rear-camera-driverinstallation-f...

  • Very Slow internet connection with WRT150-N Wireless Router

I have a WRT150-N wireless router hooked up downstairs to the modem and I am upstairs right now with internet that is very slow, it shows it is 18 megabytes/second and the connection says poor (i have a wireless G card in this computer).  I have another computer that is about 10 feet away from the router with a wireless N card and it says that the connection is 160 megabytes/second, but again it is running very very slow.  The third computer is back upstairs by this one and it has a Wireless N USB adapter and is running about 170 megabytes per second.  They are all about the same speed in opening websites but again are very slow to do so.  Any ideas on what is going on or how I can get it faster?

First of all, the speeds you are quoting all sound like Mbps (megabits per second) connection speeds, not data throughput speeds.  You really need to measure your actual download speed to tell what is actually going on with your system.
Use speedtest.net and test your system.  Turn off all other computers except the test computer.  Test under the following conditions:
    1)  connect one computer, by wire, directly to your modem
    2)  connect the same computer, by wire, directly to your router
    3)  connect the same computer wireless to your router
    4)  connect your other computers, wirelessly to the router, one at a time
Also, state the speed that you are paying your ISP for.
Report your download and upload speeds for all of the above tests.
Note that the speed that you are paying for should be about the same as your results from test 1 and 2 above.
After you have done these tests, it will be much easier to tell where the problem is.

  • Time Capsule + Airport Extreme very slow internet connection

first time post here, looking for some help.
I have a small wireless network at home which runs as follows.
Modem - time capsule (acting as wireless router to macbook pro) - ethernet connection to iMac
I would like to extend the range of the wireless network as we dont get signal upstairs. To do this I have added an airport extreme to extend the signal (as someone gave me one for christmas!).
The network works fine, signal is great all over the house however internet traffic is very very slow when devices are connected to just the extreme station (ie when out of range from the time capsule).
Does anyone have any suggestions as to why my internet connection upstairs is very very slow?

Thanks for the reply. It seems to have helped a little - should I expect slower speeds from the extended network?

  • Very slow boot due to USB controller?

    Hi all,
I bought your barebone MS-6251 with combo DVD-RW. (other params are pentium IV 2.8 GHz, 512 MB RAM, 120 GB HDD Seagate, NVIDIA GeForce FX 5200 Ultra). I already installed your LiveUpdate software.
I was absolutely satisfied with this product untill this monday (or tuesday) when my computer suddenly crashed. From that time I was not able to boot it again up, it froze after login dialog of Windows completely.
I reinstalled windows again and I was succesful and now I am working on the computer but I have following problems:
    1. I am not able to install in windows FRONT PANEL with card readers?
    2. During start up of Windows, they seems to stop for 1 minute - black screen, HDD not operating, after this long 1 minute start up process continues normally.
    3. I noticed that it is somehow connected with USB controller - when I switch it off in BIOS, everything runs quickly - of course without USB support. Immediately as I switch it on, there is this huge delay during start up.BUT THIS WAS NOT BEFORE - BEFORE CRASH MY WINDOWS STARTED IN 10 SECONDS. If I switch moreover to enable  KEYBOARD SUPPORT (USB) or MOUSE SUPPORT (USB) in bios, the delay is really catastrofic - it takes 1-2 minutes for the initial MEGAPC screen to go away and then another 1-2 minutes starting windows.
I checked my BIOS version, it was 1.0, so I tried to update to 1.1 but it is the same.
This is very annoying, I believe that you have some solution for me, otherwise I will have to return computer to my supplier.
Many thanks for you help and nice day

    Hi
Thanks for the reply. After a lot more googling- it turns out this is a general Oracle problem and is not solely related to use of the GEOMETRY column. It seems that sometimes, the Oracle optimiser makes an arbitrary decision to do bitmap conversion. No amount of hints will get it to change its mind !
One person reported a similarly negative change after table statistic collection had run.
Why changing the columns being retrieved should change the execution path, I do not know.
We have a numeric primary key which is always set to a positive value. When I added "AND primary_key_column > 0" (a pretty pointless clause) the optimiser changed the way it works and we got it working fast again.

  • Very Slow Wireless Connection

I bought a while ago a WRT54G V6.0 and although the wired connection works pretty well, the wireless connection is very slow, I have trouble accessing web pages but once it enters a site i can navigate through it without a problem, but when I go to another website I struggle to enter. I have tried updating the router several times, changing the transmission channel and it seems nothing works. could someone please help?

try changing the MTU size on the router ui in the following order .... 1492 , 1452 , 1365 ... check whether it makes any difference ...

  • How to make a digital camera appear as a connected drive

How do I make a connected digital camera appear as a drive on the desktop instead of opening iPhoto?
    Thanks!

Depends on what camera you have - to stop iPhoto form launching go to the iPhoto preferences and set action when a camera is connected to do nothing
Some cameras mount to the desktop and some do not - for example few if any Cannon cameras mount - most Sony do - depends on the manufacture and how they implemented things

  • MacBook Pro 2010: very slow wireless connection

I know a number of people have posted similar questions, but I think I've done everything I can to fix this.
I bought a 13 inch MacBook Pro last week, and found I was getting a very slow connection to my wireless network. OK when I was right next to the base station, but very slow in another room (the room I want to use it in).
I checked with speedtest.net, which showed I was getting download speeds of around 0.3 Mbps - although, curiously, it showed upload speeds of 1.5 Mbps. I ran my old MacBook in the same room, on the same wireless connection, and consistently got speeds of over 10 Mbps. So it can't be the network that's causing the issue.
After an hour on the phone with tech support, I took the Mac back to the Apple Store, where I was unable to get any wireless connection whatever. They exchanged it for a new machine. Worked fine in the store - but when I got it home, I was still getting very slow speeds. The old MacBook still outperforms it by at least a factor of ten. All the system software is up to date.
Is this a dodgy batch? Or has the wireless range dropped considerably with the new MacBooks?

    Darin,
You're right - there are a lot of issues about MBP WiFi. I think there's a major problem with it.
If there was a ..."major problem with it" you would see more complaints than wifi just being among the top 10 discussion items in a trouble shooting forum. There are millions of MBP users many of whom, like myself, use wifi every day without issue.
Your statement "They exchanged it for a new machine. Worked fine in the store - but when I got it home, I was still getting very slow speeds." would lead one to suspect maybe interference from some source or a configuration issue rather than a "major problem".
You probably already tried changing the channel, resetting your router, changing the security scheme, elimination possible sources of interference, separating your components (router, computer, external monitor, ...), etc. but maybe starting over with a default configuration will help isolate the problem.

  • Very slow network connection via LAN or Wifi problem

    Hello,
I am running Windows xp MCE version on my Macbook 2.2. I have a very bothersome problem with my network speed at work.
When I run Windows on my Mac and connect to the network of my workplace using LAN or Wireless, I can surf the local websites and Email by a very nice speed but when I try to open any page outside the companies website, it is very slow or sometime it does not even open it. In status bar it says "Waiting for www...".
I tried almost everything. The problem does not come from my firewall(I even unistalled it). My network setting are like everybody else. I dissabled the auto Comunication speed. nothing seems to help.
It seems to me that this is a problem with windows on Macbook.
I was wondering has anybody a similar problem?
Does anybody has any solution for that?
    Thanks

  • Very slow downstream + Connection dropout.

    Hello everyone,
I hope I am posting in the right forum, as I urgently need some help with this problem.
I am trying to solve a problem on behalf of one of my relatives since I am the admin of their network. Recently their connection has been experiencing a very, very slow downstream speed. I believe, (but not sure) they're with Option 3 unsure of their speed, but previous tests have given somewhere in the range of 5-6Mb. They have the original BT HomeHub. I've performed tests this end, and I have run out of ideas, so any help would be good.
It seems the router keeps re-syncing with the DSLAM every few hours, connection time never surpassed 1 day. The internet is so slow here that I am almost unable to load a web page, to me it seems that the traffic has been severely throttled. I am unable to run the test at speedtester.bt.com because it gets stuck at checking user details, slow connection?
I ran a test over at speedtest.net that took nearly 5 mins for the page to load and got the following results:
    Ping: 145 ms
    Download: 0.13Mbps
    Upload: 0.23Mbps
The DSL Connection page on the hub reads the following: (Some information is omitted)
    Uptime: 0 days, 14:12:15
    Bandwidth: U/D 320/992 [kbps]
    Output Power: U/D 12.0/18.0 [dBm]
    Line Att: U/D 31.5/43.0 [dB]
    SN Margin: U/D 06/15.0 [dB]
    LoF: L/R 0/0
    LoS: L/R 95/0
    LoP: L/R 0/0
    LoL: R 0
    Err Secs: L/R 121/0
So as you can see the downstream bandwidth is very low, which makes even loading this forum very slow. The Hub is connected to an Telephone extension cable, to rule out any issues on the cable and connections, I have directly connected the Hub to the telephone socket with no improvement in speed.
As a side note, apparently they exceeded their bandwidth at the beginning of the month so, only other guess is that their bandwidth is being limited due to exceeding their download limit, but that doesn't account for why their Hub keeps dropping its connection daily.
Any help provided would be greatly appreciated.
    Kindest Regards

Still connected to the test socket.  Ran the quiet line test and held the line for about 20mins, noticed loud but intermittent crackle, tried with another handset, same result.
Contacted BT, they ran a line test, noticed poor SNR. Ran test at speedtester.bt.com with low throughput result. Chap on the end of the phone said (called via mobile) that speeds should be up to normal in the next 24hours. If no improvement after 10 days call back and they will send a tech out.
In a passing conversation with my relative, the last time they had crackle on the line was due to sevear corrosion of the telephone line entering the house at the outside junction box on the wall, and resulted in them cutting a whole length of cable off for rewire. If its corrosion again, then that would explain the poor SNR and a technician will be required to look at the box again.
I re-flashed the FW of the Hub, with its original FW, defaulted settings and that made no improvement. So guessing that the issue is certainly with the line, more likely at the circuit termination at the entry point to the property.

  • Time Capsule suddenly producing very slow internet connection

I use my TC as a router and back-up.  The internet connection is suddenly very slow and unable to load some more complex web pages.  I plugged the cable modem directly into my MacBook Pro and the connection is fine, so I do not believe it is our signal from the internet provider.  Yesterday I was unable to locate my TC back-up files on my computer, but today I could.

Same scenario. firmware 7.7.3. Drops from 8Mbit direct to 0,2Mbit through the Time Capsule (latest version 2TB).
Have a try naming the two wireless bands differently.
ie TC24ghz and TC5ghz .. then force the Sonos to use 2.4ghz and force the computer to use 5ghz.. do you get any improvement??
If not the TC could be faulty on the wan side.. to test you need to do actual file transfer tests between the client and the TC.. copy a large file to the and from the TC hard disk.. it should go at up to 50MB/s over ethernet and around 10-15MB/s over wireless.
The WAN issue with some modems is difficult to track down.. if the TC is new return it.. or still in warranty at least get apple to test it.
