Exporting 1920x1080 30p

Hello,
I am evaluating the trial version of PrE 8, but I can´t seem to find a way to export (mpeg2 or mp4) with a resolution of 1920x1080 and 30 fps progressive.
( I have a camera that is 1080p and I want to keep the final result that way)
observations:
a) If I look under the MPEG category there are several presets. "HD 720p 30" will do it in 1280x720.  But there is no "HD 1080p 30" preset.
If I go to the "advaced" dialog and try to modify the HD 720p 30 preset to change its resolution, it will only allow up to 1440x810.
b) like wise, there is a preset called MPE2 1920x1080i 30 , but this is interlaced video.  If I go to the advaced window and try to edit the preset to make it progressive, there is no such option.
c) The same thing goes for MP4 format, using the H.264 1920x1080i 30 preset:  There is no option to change it to progressive.
Is this something that is not supported in PrE8 at all?
Do I have to install another codec/plugin ?
What about if I get Quicktime Pro ? (I only have the free version) Can PrE8 use quicktime encoders?
Thank you!
Gonzalo

I am assuming that you have 1920 x 1080 with 30 progressive frames per second and your audio is 2 channel.
Consider the Premiere Elements project preset as what determines the template in the Edit Mode Monitor from which to edit. So, although Premiere Elements does not have a specific project preset for 1080p30, the one for 1080i30 will serve the purpose for setting up your 1920 x 1080 template in the Edit Mode Monitor (for all practical purposes frames i or p do not enter into this phase). DO NOT SET a NTSC HDV HDV 720p or PAL counterpart project preset!!!!!
The proof is in trying the following...if it works for you great, if not, you can file the suggestion...
Premiere Elements project preset (new project dialog) should = NTSC AVCHD Full HD1080i30 or its PAL counterpart depending on your location.
Do your editing from the template in the Edit Mode Monitor.
For export, Share/Personal Computer/MPEG with the preset for HDV720p, BUT under the Advanced Button setting should be:
Under Video Tab
Video Codec = MainConcept MPEG Video
Level = High (Important that you do this at onset to be able to set correct frame size)
Profile = Main
Frame Width = 1920 pixels and Frame Height = 1080 pixels
Frame Rate = 30 frames per second or 29.97 frames per second
Field Order = None (Progressive)
Aspect Ratio = Square Pixels (1.000)
I would leave bitrate as is for the first go round, and fine tune it later if necessary.
I think that you will get the 1080p30 results that you seek. Let us see.
Looking forward to your results.

  • Using 1920x1080 30p and 1280x720 60p in FCE

I have FCE for my Mac. I'm working with a videographer who is shooting with a Sony PMW-EX1. He says he can deliver footage to me on DVDs as .MOV files that are 1920x1080 30p (for regular footage) and 1280x720 60p (for slow-mo). He says if I can't work with that, he can deliver the footage as 1440x1080i (and p).
From what I've read in other forums, it seems I could import the higher-res footage, but then I would have to render it in FCE which would convert it to 1440x1080i.
First, is my understand about my ability to import the high-res footage correct?
Second, assuming I can import it, given the fact that I'd have to convert the high-res footage, is it better to get the footage shot in 1440x1080i so nothing has to be "lost" in the conversion process? (Personally, I'd like to have the higher-res footage so that if I upgrade to FCP or another program down the road, I'll have the better footage).
    Thanks.

Your videographer is wrong. He should not be shooting two different formats for slomo. If he wants to use 60p for slomo he should shoot everything 1280x720. That's first, but doesn't really effect you.
All your assumptions are incorrect. The frame size in only one aspect of the issue. The format he delivers the material will most likely be in a codec that is not supported in FCE. XDCAM is not supported in FCE, nor is native HDV, nor ProRes, only the Apple Intermediate Codec.
60p for slomo in FCE does not work. It makes no difference to FCE.
You should mention what version of FCE you're using.

  • How can I export 1920x1080 Mp4 directly from FCP

How can I export 1920x1080 Mp4 directly from FCP

    Thanks Russ.
I wasn't thinking about the Apple Devices so much as the Master File set to Audio & Video which produces a .mov file.
I have normally used the Master File to export my videos but will experiment in future with "Computer".
I've taken a closer look with VideoSpec and notice that the data rate of the .mov file is about 70% of the .mp4 and the file size is correspondingly smaller.
The export/render time of the .mov is also somewhat quicker.

  • Exporting 1920x1080 iMovie 11 Clips to FCE 4.0.1 - loss of aspect ratio

I'm editing a movie in FCE 4.0.1 at 1920x1080 and I'd like to bring across a file I created with iMovie 11. I used the "Export Final Cut XML" option to get my file across, but when I import to FCE the aspect ratio gets mangled into 1440x1080 (according to its Item Properties). I'm just getting my feet wet with this, so is there a pixel aspect ratio option I need to fiddle with, or could it be something else completely?

Sorry, it didn't mention the camera at all in the inspector; I thought that was what you were after.

  • Having jumpy playback with 60p footage exported to 30p. Pans are worst.

We recently shot a commercial on the Sony FS700 in the native AVCHD codec at 60p. We originally intended to slow the footage down to 30 but the client decided the natural speed worked better. So we simply cut the spot in a 30p sequence and exported. The playback is VERY jittery/jumpy with any vertical lines in the picture, which is very pronounced in any pans. We then cut it in a 60p timeline and exported 60p then converted to 30p, same issue. I did have frame blend on every export.
Exporting 60i does help tremendously, some stations won't accept the 60i file however which sticks us with 30p files which have the issue. The XDCAM 1080 60i file is perfect, however ProRes 30p is not.
    Any ideas on this?

Believe it or not, the Import method can sometimes affect playback. Be sure to copy the entire AVCHD folder structure over from SD card to hard drive, unmodified, then in Premiere use the "Media Browser" to import your clips for best results. A definite plus for any spanned clips for sure, also helps with some audio issues.
Also, my understanding of the Interpret Footage option was that if you put 60p footage into a 30p sequence, and also used "Interpret As 29.97" then the footage ought to be playing back at 50% slow motion speed. Something seems off here.
EDIT: Or maybe that's what you meant, the slowmo is perfect?

  • HD 30p (progressive) export presets for download here

    Hello
A couple of days ago I asked about exporting HD  1920 x 1080  (and also 1280 x 960) in progressive mode. All the full HD presets in PrE 8 are interlaced.
    http://forums.adobe.com/thread/645628?tstart=30
Thanks to AT Romano guidance, I created all the export presets I needed, which I provide here for download, if anybody wants them.
    http://www.megaupload.com/?d=U7IMK7NA
You have to un-zip them and put them here
    C:\Documents and Settings\your-username\Application Data\Adobe\Premiere Elements\8.0\SC\Presets\PC\MPEG\HD
    There are 2 MP4 presets (H.264 + AAC) and 2 MPEG2 presets:
    HD MP4 1280x960 30p.epr
    HD MP4 1920x1080 30p.epr
    HD MPEG2 1280x960 30p.epr
    HD MPEG2 1920x1080 30p.epr
    Gonza

I have one questions concerning these. I am running Windows 7 64bit with PE8, Where should I put unzip these files too?
    the directory you described:
    C:\Documents and Settings\your-username\Application Data\Adobe\Premiere Elements\8.0\SC\Presets\PC\MPEG\HD
does not exist on my computer.
I tried to look and see if I had any comparable folders but i'm not finding them.
Anyone have any idea where a Windows 7 user can unzip these brilliant life-saving files too?
    thanks!

  • How to import 30p 1920x1080 footage into cs4

    Hi,
I shot some footage using my canon hf20 in 30p, at 1920x1080. when i open a new sequence i don't see a setting for 1920x1080 30p under AVCHD.
at first i was going to use the XDCAM HD preset since it's the only one i see that has 30p, but i realized that it's 1440x1080, not 1920x1080.
how else to import 30p 1920x1080 into premiere CS4?
    1) will the 1080i30 (60i) setting preserve the 30p progressive footage (even though the option is listed in premiere pro under 1080 interlaced)?
    2) or is the only way to edit 30p progressive at 1920x1080 is to select the AVCHD 1080p 24p setting and change the frame rate to 29.97?
    3) or is there some other trick altogether?
    thanks.

thanks for the replies. so does the 1080i30 (60i) setting do some kind of de-interlacing on 30p footage, even if it's not native and it's wrapped in 60i (like it is in the canon hf20)? or does the camera do that automatically?

  • Exporting Canon 5D Mark ii footage..

I'm fairly new to final cut, im running a Mac Pro, 2 X 3 Ghz processor, 10GB memory, 10.6.2 snow leopard... and i still find myself having to render at every edit in the timeline, and now im having trouble figuring out how to export correctly to get the highest possible quality on youtube and/or vimeo
here's what i have done and researched so far:
i took my original canon 5d footage into MPEG streamclip and converted the files into Apple ProRes 422 (LT) at 30fp, i then created a custom setup in final cut 7 with the following presets:
SEQUENCE PRESET: Canon 5D Mark ii footage (duplicated an Apple ProRes 422 (LT) 1920X1080 30p 44.1ghz audio)
CAPTURE PRESET: DVCPRO HD 1080p30 48kHz (i won't be capturing in fcp since i've been using MPEG streamclip
    DEVICE CONTROL PRESET: FIREWIRE NTSC
VIDEO PLAYBACK: (sometimes i have this set at Digital Cinema Desktop Preview - Full Screen so that i can take advantage of my other monitor, but it tends to drop frames faster in playback, so i usually have it set to "none")
    AUDIO PLAYBACK: Default
now my question is, how do i correctly export this? i tried a couple different ways, some had skipped frames... others the audio was off... another setting made the colors way too contrasty after exporting...
also how can i solve this "rendering" issue... did i make a mistake in the beginning in setting up the timeline (btw , the sequence matches the same settings as the footage... ) i'm also playing back at "safe RT, medium quality, half frame rate..." not sure if that matters..
so yeah, my two main questions are, correct export for this file, and any help with render issues?
    thank you..

    oops.sorry...
here is a link to what i uploaded using Quicktime X directly to youtube..
    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=a3q19YDSdWE
it doesn't look as good as i think it could...and it has a HQ option instead of HD? i don't have quicktime pro so i couldn't export with exact settings, just directly to youtube... how can i export w/ final cut .. when i export using quicktime conversion and using Apple Pro Res, it ends up being a 1.34gb file and its only 1 minute... would i then need to compress it?
and yes i need to get rid of all the layers i have in the timeline.. maybe that might help but it was giving me the rendering "RED" color even in the beginning when i had 1 layer..
i changed audio to 44.1 because i read it somewhere online i believe it was under phillip bloom.. suggesting to change from 48 to 44.1 for all canon 5d footage.. ? im not sure why though..

  • Best PE7.0 export settings for Youtube HD, Vimeo or Smugmug?

    Hi all,
I'm really new to video editing and I can't find any recommendations on the best Premiere Elements 7 export settings for Youtube HD, Vimeo or Smugmug. It seems like most of them want you to upload in 1280x720.
My original source is 1920x1080 30p AVCHD from a Canon HF100. Obviously, I would like to keep it at the same frame rate. There doesn't appear to be a preset in PE7 (or a way at all) to output 1280x720 30 into an MPEG container with H.264 encoding. When I go into the advanced properties of a preset like "H.264 1920x1080i 30" or "MPEG2 1920x1080i 30" and choose 1280x720, I no longer have an option for 29.97 fps - the only options are 23.976 or 24 fps. It seems bad to change this, right?
I see the preset for "HD 720p 30" which appears to be MPEG encoding of the video stream instead of H.264. This seemed to work OK, but I wasn't sure about it, because when I choose it I see in the description a line that says TV Standard: NTSC. A number of web sites indicate that H.264 is preferred, but I don't really understand why.
I also found a way to do H.264 in a Quicktime container. This seemed a little suboptimal because you can't do variable bitrate. When I unselected the "select bitrate" checkbox, it seemed like a quality of 50 yielded a .mov file with a bit rate of 2.87Mb/s, and a quality of 100 yielded a .mov file with a bit rate of 26Mb/s. It is confusing to me how the quality setting affects the bitrate on the quicktime containers.
I'm leaning towards using the "HD 720p 30" preset and working with the bit rate choices, but am open to comments. What do others think?
And on a related question - assuming we choose the "HD 720p 30" preset as a starting point, given the 1GB file restriction at Youtube, it seems to make sense to choose a bitrate that allows both good quality and reasonable file size. I don't know much about whether VBR 1 pass, 2 pass or CBR would be best for this kind of online HD video. Google is a little unhelpful here: http://www.google.com/support/youtube/bin/answer.py?hl=en&answer=132461
This page (http://webvideotechniques.com/123/bigger-and-better-encoding-for-youtube-hd) seems to indicate aiming for a bitrate of 8Mbps with a minimum of 4Mbps, including 2 pass VBR.
So, basically, I'm confused and a little overwhelmed. I think I have solutions that work, but it's hard to tell. What does the greater community think? Thanks.

Thanks very much E Mann, that was a very helpful thread. I think it actually would apply for youtube as well. For other users, here's a direct link to the settings for Premiere Elements:
    http://eugenia.gnomefiles.org/2007/12/08/exporting-with-adobe-premiere-in-720p/
    Roughly, the answer is:
    Quicktime container
    Video codec: H.264
Quality: 80 (I used 100 and it just takes longer to encode)
Frame Rate: 29.97 (I guess if you are shooting in 24p, this might be different)
    Bitrate: 5000 (I might try 8000)
    Audio codec: AAC
    Output channels: Stereo
    Frequency: 48kHz
Now, my own personal changes to this recipe are:
Quality: 100 - takes longer to encode, no file size difference
    Bitrate: 8000
    Frequency: 44kHz (recommended by youtube)
One final note is that for Vimeo it appears you may have to try encoding in 29.97 or 23.97 and test to see which you like better. Apparently Vimeo caps fps at 24.
The nice thing about this is that you can get a quality video directly out of Premiere Elements and you don't have to pipe it through another program.

  • Canon 7D + Full Quality Export from FCP

Hi, I'm kind of new to the video scene, and especially FCP, and have finally took the plunge and bought a Canon 7D. I have just finished editing my footage, and now I want to export.
Despite all the tweaking that I've tried, the biggest file size I can get out of this is a 30MB file. The sound and video quality are both depressing. I've recorded in 1080p, all I want is a lossless export. I know this isn't FCP's fault, it's my own lack of knowledge, and that's why I'm here.
    I've tried File/Export/Quicktime Movie...
    I've un-ticked 'Make Movie Self-Contained'
I've changed my sequence preset to 'Apple ProRes 422 (HQ) 1920x1080 30p 48kHz'
I've done all of this AFTER finishing editing, so would this become a problem?
Here is what my sequence settings looks like. If it helps?
    [IMG]http://img121.imageshack.us/img121/9261/screenshot20110320at142.png[/IMG]
p.s. I have looked at the numerous threads that are actually identical to my problem, unfortunately, I've either got myself in a muddle or the fixes haven't been successful.

HA!! Feel your pain! We've all been there.
    Ok...
    1) take 10 minutes and read this... http://lfhd.net/2010/04/04/log-and-transfer-for-canon-dslrs/ if it helps it will help A LOT. If it doesn't - just ignore it.
    2) If that didn't help... open Compressor (should be in your applications folder where FCP is. Part of the FCStudio suite studio thing).
2a) drag ALL the .mov files into the upper left (untitled) window and select them all (turn blue - they might already be selected...
    http://homepage.mac.com/captmench/Compressor01.png
2b) in SETTINGS window click SETTINGS tab and open APPLE - FORMATS - QUICKTIME... there you will see the ProRes options...
    http://homepage.mac.com/captmench/Compressor02.png
2c) Drag one of those (I like LT) onto the highlighted .movs above.
You'll need to set a destination... select all again and then go to Destinations tab I'd go ahead and send them to the Desktop for cleanup later -- but it WILL change the title of the movs so you can leave it at SOURCE (default) if you want.
Then hit SUBMIT on the Untitled window where you dropped your clips and Submit again (don't worry about that dialog box!!) -- then go to the park for a few hours.
    Good luck,
    CaptM

  • CS4: Best export settings for web delivery?

    Greetings, all!
I recently upgraded to working with HDV footage in CS4 from working with SD footage in Elements 3, and have been struggling a bit with getting the best quality export from CS4/AME for delivery over the web.
I'm most concerned with exporting a best quality master that I can then transcode to m4v, flv, etc.  So far, the best luck I've had is with a H.264 .mp4 export, but it's still not as clean as I'd like to see.  I've also read that exporting as a Quicktime animation provides excellent results, but I'm having issues with Quicktime on my new PC (error -43 file missing, for one thing) and I've read a bunch of posts here that advise staying away from QT whenever possible.  I'm working mostly with NTSC HDV 1440x1080 60i footage from a Canon XH-A1s, with some NTSC HD 1920x1080 30p and 24p footage from a Canon T2i thrown in sometimes.  I don't mind shrinking my export down to 1280x720, but for my master I really want the cleanest possible video.
Any tips would really be appreciated.
    Thanks!

    Anybody have any tips???
Here are the specs I have been using so far.
    Format: H.264
    NTSC, 1280x720, 29.97 [fps], Progressive
    AAC, 128 [kbps], 44.1khz, Stero
VBR, 2 Pass, Target 6.00, Max 8.00 [mbps]
    Widescreen 16:9
    Profile: high
    Level: 5.1
What I get is a file that's about 250megs for a 5-minute video that looks pretty clean.  What I'm really looking for is more like a 2.5gig file that's super clean.  Back when I was shooting SD, I would export an .avi file as my master that would run about 1gig or so for a 5-minute file.  I'm looking for a similar workflow now that I'm working in HD.
    Any ideas?

  • How can I watch 1920x1080 60p video in the iPad?

Background - I recently purchased a Sony Camcorder.  It records in AVCHD format 1920x1080 60p.  I have converted the AVCHD format to .mov using clip wrap but I cannot sync the file to my iPad 3 with iTunes probably because the iPad can only play up to 30 fps and this video is in 60 fps.  I can record in a lower quality mode of 1440x1080 30 fps but the quality is significantly less.  Is there a way to make this compatible somehow to play on the iPad?   Maybe convert it from 60 fps to 30? I know there must be a way.  I have a 3rd party app called Filebrowser and when I play the .mov 1920x1080 60p file directly from the source (my MacBook) it plays it on the iPad and the quality is incredible.  Only problem is that since it is streaming the iPad can't stream fast enough to play it without pausing every 5 seconds.  If my camera could record in 1920x1080 30p I wouldn't have this issue but for some reason Sony doesn't allow this.  I chose Sony because the video is significantly better than Canon, Nikon and other brands.  Does someone please have a suggestion?  I have been researching for hours so if there is another forum post that explains I am sorry I could not find it and I have a migraine from searching.  I am definitely an amateur at best trying to get great quality home video on my retina display iPad.  What good does the retina display do if I have to watch mediocre video quality.  Any help is appreciated.  Regards.

    Hi,
I too would like to know the answer to your question. I don't thnk the answer you got was what you were looking for. I would go to the Digital Vdeo Infrmation Network forums and ask there about which is the best software to convert 60p to 30p. I don't remember off hand how exactly to do it. But it is a little complecated as I recall. People over there will be more than helpful.
I took 720p 60fps footage when I should have taken 30p footage with my Canon 60D camera.
I just hope that in the next IOS6 update that we will be able to import 60d footage. But I am not holding my breath.
I can't see why 60D footage would not be possible on the ipad3. It is the same amount of data bits. 1280x720 60p vs 1920x1080 30p.

  • Best Practices for Exporting with Bug overlay

I'm trying to optimize a bug graphic so as to speed up exports from FCP. I'm working at XDCam 1080i/60 (timeline + footage) and have experimented with different types of bugs, all PSD files. Here's what I've found exporting a 10 min. segment:
No bug = 3 min. export
96x96 pixel PSD of the bug positioned in the corner (semi-transparent)= 15 min. export
    1920x1080 PSD with the bug pre-positioned in corner (semi-transparent) = 15 min.
1920x1080 PSD with the bug pre-positioned in corner (opaque) = 15 min.
It seems such a simple overlay shouldn't demand so much reprocessing and take so long. Any ideas how to make this more efficient? I don't want to add a bug via Compressor as I want to retain control of what moments in the program the bug displays.

Render to full before you export and all the times will match. The bug image size does not effect the render time as each frame has to be compressed separately. The only time it will make a difference is if you're scaling and positioning the bug to fit the screen, but if you position and size it correctly in Photoshop it will speed by the render time. XDCAM BTW is a dog to process because of its GOP structure.

  • Trying to shorten export time

Been trying to export 1920x1080 using h.264 codec for posting on web. I first set up my own Export but took 8 hrs to finish 35%. Been looking at the Apple Devices 720 or 1080 options now. I switch options from Apple Device to Web Hosting but there's no indication of changes in size changes the size and therefore length of time to export (generally). Tho Apple Devices produces a "protected MPEG-4" movie and Web Hosting a "Quicktime" movie.
Any suggestions on choices for export?
    OR
Has anyone had problems withi export time and then solved them? If so, how?
    Any other tips appreciated.

My workflow for a YouTube project is:
Completely render the project before exporting.
Export to whatever the current codec is set for (so... just Export with current settings), typically ProRes 422(HQ) [my general preference established when creating a project] or sometimes ProRes LT and if necessary, ProRes 4444.  It really doesn't matter, when the project is completely rendered and exporting to a ProRes format, the export is about 1/5 to 1/2 run time (about 2 - 5 minutes for every 10 of video -- probably dependent on your storage bandwidth.)
Exporting H.264 for YouTube of Vimeo straight out of FCPX is *absolutely pointless* since FCPX does not offer any quality options (always exports highest quality H.264) and YouTube and others are just going to recompress down to their limit anyway.  I never give YT that opportunity...
I use Quicktime 7 Pro (about 100,000 times easier than compressor [hyperbole]) to transcode to YouTube specifications. The maximum bandwidth YT will "place" is 5Mbps... so I transcode to, at most, 5Mbps.  Turn on Auto Key Frames; Turn off Frame Reordering; Data Rate Restrict to 5000 kbits/sec; Optimize for Streaming; Compressor Quality (max available) to High; Encoding to Best Quality (Multi-pass).  For the Size options, I use the HD settings from the top section (anything below the start of NTSC will create broadcast tv "safe" video [overscan] and will not be completely compatible with digital targets such as YT [it will be smaller].) I also set Preserve Aspect Ratio Using Letterbox (YT used to have problems with 1920x1080 video being a little "squished" vertically to compensate for the transport controls... probably just habit now.)  Audio: Format AAC; Sample Rate 48000; Variable bit rate ~192kbps. And check the Prepare for Internet Streaming checkbox and select Fast Start.  Except for the variable bit rate audio and the letterboxing stuff, these are the specifications YT put down in its documention.
Converting from the ProRes output from FCPX to the H.264 for YT in QT7Pro is actually faster than trying to export H.264 directly out of FCPX (and compressor for that matter...)
I find if you simply change the m4v filletype to .mov, you don't need all the web page stuff that gets generated, you can simply load the video up in a browser from a direct URL.  Exporting to Apple Devices is a quick way to transcode 1080 out of FCPX to the smaller sized 720 video when necessary.
Here's an example of an .m4v Apple Devices video with the filetype manually changed to .mov:

Will it upload to YT? Yep: here's the proof: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yH1mIli8EpA (but this one has no audio -- be very careful about the audio settings of what you upload to YT... they don't like Linear PCM [AIFF, WAV, etc... YT wants AAC])
