Import - stopped - file to big

Hi,
I scanned the forums and FAQs and didn't find any hint so I want to raise a question. - I made a nice panorama photo with photoshop and want to add this psd file to lightroom.
So I synchronized the folder and LR indicates that there is a new photo to be imported. - After click on import the process terminates because the file is to big (~95 MB).
Is there a way to get this psd file into my LR catalog?
Thanks for any pointer to a solution...
Gerald

10,000 pixels on a side is the current limitation. Don't bother asking for that to be increased, you'd just be about 10,000th on the list!

  • Import Message - Files Too Big

While doing my initial import, I got a message the end that about 8 of my 1000 or so photos were not imported because they were too big. I'm leaving the photos on my NAS drive (not moving them). What's the problem? Thanks in advance for any help.
    Steve

No files 10K pixels a side or larger will be imported regardless of Mb size.
    From Help: About file formats
    >TIFF format
    >Tagged-Image File Format (TIFF, TIF) is used to exchange files between applications and computer platforms. TIFF is a flexible bitmap image format supported by virtually all paint, image-editing, and page-layout applications. Also, virtually all desktop scanners can produce TIFF images. Lightroom supports large documents saved in TIFF format (up to 100 million pixels with pixel dimensions of no more than 10,000 on a side). However, most other applications, including older versions of Photoshop (pre-Photoshop CS), do not support documents with file sizes greater than 2 GB.

  • Imported song files too big

I'm having trouble importing music from a CD. I'm getting files of 25MB to 40MB for three to four minute songs. Shouldn't a 3 minute song be around 3MBs? Any advice on getting smaller files?
I'd like to burn these to a CD for play on a standard stereo, so I don't want to go to MP3. My current import settings are: AIFF encoder/custom--running iTunes 5.
    thanks!

    Heidi--
I'm getting files of 25MB to 40MB for three to four minute songs.
Which sounds about right. I usually figure about 10MB per minute for uncompressed stereo audio. When you import as AIFF, if you use 16-bit stereo audio at 44.1kHz, you're getting the same size files as are on the CD.
Any advice on getting smaller files?
If you still want the same quality as the CD, try the Apple Lossless encoder. I've never tried it, but people say you can cut the file size by about half.
I'd also suggest that you should import some songs at varying other compression levels and see how they sound. You might find a setting, like the other poster did, which would be acceptable to you, yet yield an even smaller file size.
A lot depends on your personal tastes and how well you can hear the differences between compression settings. For example, I'm willing to sacrifice a bit of sound quality for smaller file size because my iPod's battery lasts longer if I use smaller files. But it's a trade-off I'm willing to make because I also listen to my iPod in environments where there's a lot of background noise, etc., so the audio quality difference isn't that apparent to me.

  • I just got a new Mac Mini, and now when I try to import photos into Lightroom, iPhoto try to load them first, then Lightroom can't find the files.  Big problem.  What to do?

I just got a new Mac Mini, and now when I try to import photos into Lightroom, iPhoto ties to load them first, then Lightroom can't find the files.  Big problem.  What to do?

    Simple:
File -> Export to get your photos out of the iPhoto Library. In the Export dialogue you can set the kind to Original and you'll get back exactly what you put in.
Apps like iPhoto2Disk or PhotoShare will help you export to a Folder tree matching your Events.
Once exported, you can then trash the iPhoto Library - just drag it from the Pictures Folder to the trash and empty it.
After that, if you're entirely neurotic about it, just put the iPhoto app in the trash and empty it.

  • Is an 8.7GB file too big to import into iMovie 9?

Is an 8.7GB file too big to import into iMovie 9?  I am using iMovie 8.0.6 on a Macbook Pro running OS 10.6.8 on 2.26 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo with 2 GB Memory.  I can't get my movie file to import into iMovie...any advice would be much appreciated!

When you import into iMovie, your video is converted into DV format. This uses 13 GB per hour of video. So the first thing you have to do is make sure you have 26 GB free on your hard drive, plus another 10GB free for OSX to perform, plus 10GB free if you plan on burning a DVD.
iMovie has non-destructive editing. If you have used any part of a clip and discard the rest, that entire clip is still saved in your project - unused but eating up disc space. If you use no part of a clip and discard the clip, then the clip can go in the trash and you get back disc space. So...
If you import 2 hours of video (26GB) as one clip, and only use 2 minutes, your 2-minute segment retains its 2-hr source in memory. 2 min = 26 GB.
One thing you can do is set the iMovie preferences to automatically create new clips every 3 minutes. (2 hours of 3-min clips = 40 clips.) This allows you to find the 2-minute segment you want and delete all of the unused clips. Say your 2-minute segment comes from 2 of these 3-min clips, so you keep 6 minutes of source footage and delete the rest. Clips that are entirely unused will be completely deleted and give you back disc space. At .65 GB per clip, your 6-minute project is now only 1.3 GB, and you've just regained 24.7 GB of disc space.

  • Elements 12 organizer has stopped working on importing of files

I am running a brand new PC w8.1 fresh install, second install of elements and photoshop 12.  when I am attempting to import my files in the organizer I am getting a consistant crash "Elements 12 organizer has stopped working".  Need assistance to make this go away.
    Background:
The crash happens while importing videos or photos (have not even gotten to the part to work with files yet)
I have tried to take smaller imports (less then a couple hundred files) but that doesn't seem to matter.
It is not crashing on a consistent file.  Sometimes when I try again, it completes the import.
Brand new Dell PC 7i, 24 gig ram, amd advance graphics card (PC not the issue)
Windows 8.1 pretty much out of the box.
Tried to "rename" the psa file to psaold, (still crashing).
    Re installed software, no change
Downloaded the latest updates for everything.
    Webroot security
Thanks for any help you can give me, I hate to have to return the product but considering how unstable it is when everything is fresh, I cant imagine living with this.

  • In iPhoto how do I stop files from auto resizing as they import? I don't want my files reduced to 72. The option to choose size on the export menu not suitable for up sizing, as you can't restore the quality removed?

in iPhoto how do I stop files from auto resizing as they import? I don't want my files reduced to 72. The option to choose size on the export menu not suitable for up sizing, as you can't restore the quality removed.

Short answer: They are not resizing, there is no quality lost. The dpi is only set when you decide what size you're printing at
Longer answer:  Dpi means nothing in the digital world of your computer. There are no "inches" to have "dots per..." Size is measured in pixels. That's the same on your camera. It doesn't take 10 x 8 or 6 x 4 shots. It takes shots measured in megapixels. For instance 4,000 x 3,000 is a 12 megapixel camera.
Using that example, that shot from that camera has 12 million pixels. So that's how many "Dots" there are. To decide the ratio of dots per inch, you now need to decide the "inches" part. And that's printing. Print at 10 x 8 and the dpi will be 4,000/10 or about 400 dpi. At 6 x 4 then it's 4,000/6 or 660 dpi. Work the other way: Print at 300 dpi and the resulting image will be about 13 inches on the longer side.
So, your photo as a fixed number of pixels. Changing the dimensions of the print will vary the dpi, changing the dpi will vary the dimensions of the print.

We were working just fine using Adobe premier pro cc, we captured videos in avi format video codec MJPEC audio codec PCM. Suddenly, I think after updating using cc, premier stopped importing any file giving the following Error message: The file contains an unsupported Audio format. We have captured more than 4000 hr from our library, and we are still capturing, our work is completlty freezed, we can not export to any format since we can not import in the first place. • Encore CS4 never stops importing a file

    Hi @all,
I have got a serious problem with Ncor CS4. I want to import an m2v file (5,6GB). Ncor imports it, the progress bar goes up to 100% but then it restarts to import the file and it takes again 5 Minutes, then, at 100% it restarts again and so on. It never stops importing the file.
When I hit the cancel button, Ncor crashes immediately.
Does anybody know a solution for this really annoying problem?
    My system is:
    C2duo @ 3 Ghz
    3,5 GB ram
    Win XP SP3

Well, in the meanwhile, I have read here that nvidia graphic cards may cause the problem, so I updated the driver (Nvidia GeForce 8600GTS). Then I deleted the Media Cache directory within the registry and I could import the file for the first time. But then, when I tried to add chapters, Encore crashed.
So I restarted Encore and again I could not import the file due to the infinite loop. The Media Cache directory was there again.
It can't be, that I have to delete something out of the registry everytime I want to use the program. That's really disappointing.
Well, 3.5GB is normal for a 32 bit XP system when you use 4GB ram. XP is only able to address 3.5GB out of 4GB - that's why. It is hard to say how different my PC is - I would say, it is quite standard - I have no plugins and other applications. The only hardware I installed was an E-MU 0404 Soundcard. But that's it...
I even tried it, using a completely new image (purely fresh Win XP SP3, no other software) installed Encore CS4 and had the same problem.

  • Premiere Elements 13 has stopped importing MOV. files. Quicktime is installed and working

Premiere Elements 13 has stopped importing MOV. files. Quicktime is installed and working.

    Nowconfused
I tried to get background information on the video from your camera but all I could find so far is that the camera is probably recording
1080p (1920 x 1080 @ 29.97 or 30 progressive frames per second. What are you (manually) or the program (automatically) setting as the project
preset to match the properties of your video source. See Edit Menu/Project Settings/General and the readings for Editing Mode, Timebase, Frame Size, and Pixel Aspect Ratio even if the fields look grayed out.
How are you importing the files into the Premiere Elements 13 project - with the Add Media/Files and Folders/Project Assets from a computer
hard drive location or are you making a USB connection between the camera and computer/Premiere Elements 13 and using Add Media/Video ..../Video Importer? Could you possibly have changed the way you are importing the files into a project?
Would it be possible for you to send a small sample of one of these .mov files that will no longer import? Maybe in a Dropbox link that you include in a reply?
Do you have any of the older files still available - the ones that did import at one time? If so, will they still import into a project or do they now not import?
    More later.
    Thanks for the follow ups.

  • File too big to import

When I try to import a mpg file from the desktop it says that it can't be imprted because there is not enough disk space left. My hard drive is huge and empty. The file is 710MB, which is why I'm using iMovies in the first place, I just want to compress it to 700MB so that it will fit on a CD. Is there any way to import this file?

Well no not really you need a bigger drive. When iMovie "uncompresses" the MPEG to DV it will run out of space.
I am not sure (because I have never tried it) but I -think- Steamclip will convert an MPEG to an MPEG. I know if you convert it to H.264 it will fit on a CD if you cut the bitrate down.
