Limitation - Query Designer

Hi There,
I have scenario, whereby in Q.Designer in the column section I have a Characteristics called Fiscal year/period
I would like to a key Figure called Cumulative Balance, is this possible or simply is there a limitation ?
TQ
Kumar

No, actually i's like this.
I want a report to look like this:-
AIC1000.200   Opening Balance  K4/001.2004  K4/002.2004 .
AID1000.200
AITOT.200
so on
In this case, the key figure is cumulative balance which represents Opening Balance, and K4/001.2004 represents Characteristics - Fiscal year/period, which resides in column section. I can't drag n drop the key figure Cumulative balance to the column with fiscal year/period

    Hi All,
When i am executing the query in Query designer 7 it is showing as 4 or 5 columns only. We need to show the complete report.Everytime we are clicking on next page and going forward. Because of this reason we are going for WAD.
Is there any alternate solution where we can show the maximum number of row in the first time execution itself??

    Hi Sathiya,
this can be done by enhancing the standard template. Check: [How to Enhance SAP BEx Web Analyzer (0ANALYSIS_PATTERN|https://www.sdn.sap.com/irj/scn/go/portal/prtroot/docs/library/uuid/200d6cb6-080e-2b10-84a5-b96723ad8f18]). This link will give you information howto...

  • Results based on From and To value in Bex query designer.

    Dear all,
We are using BI7.00. In one of our report which pertains to PM user wants to get the details of number of breakdowns which falls in the value range 0 to 1 hours.
I created a condition which has 2 variables, one is From value and the other is for the To value (since user wants to enter both the limits). I have written a condition that if the breakdown hour is greater than or equal to variable1 and less than or equal to variable2.
Using the above condition if the query is run, i am not getting the desired output. The values avaialble in the report are 0.65,0.78,1.30,7.38,0 etc., when i give 0 to 1 i should get the values 0.65,0.78 and 0 but instead report displays "No valid results".
I changed the condition and selected "Between" variable 1 and variable 2 - yet no change in the query.
To my knowledge i foresee that system is not able to recognize the decimal and hence provides details only based on the whole numbers.
How to get my requirement achieved in the Bex query designer.
Experts suggestion with steps will be very useful to solve my problem.

    Hi Magesh,
I think you could try one more way.
Create a formula inserting your two formula variables for limits .(FV -  are ready for input ) .
The formula would return the result as 1 or 0 because it would have boolean condition in it.
You could then place a condition in the query designer to only show all records where the value of the formula key fig is 1.
You formula A would look like
    ( KF > FV1) AND (KF < FV2) * 1.
And in the condition put A EQ 1.
You could scale the key figures as well and multiply the limits mentioned by the users in FV1 and FV2 if decimals are still not recognized by SAP.(scaling)

  • How to create an exception in query designer?

    Hi,
I am new to BW. I created an exception and set the from and to limits with an alert level of green for an amount column. When I run this query in the web, it does not change the color to green for the condition in the amount column. What is the validity area of exception? Do I need to enter anything there? I am in BW 3.5

    Hi,
You need to change the default option Result only to all the cells in the second tab(cell defining) of Exceptions in query designer.

  • Can't see 7.x Variable in 3.5 Query Designer

Hi, I created a BEx Variable on one of my characteristics in the 7.x Query Designer and cannot see this same variable in the 3.5 Query Designer.
Does anyone know if this is a known limitation?
    Thanks!

Variables are not version specific. Variables created in any version are visible in both 3.5 and 7.x query designers. In 7.x query designer when you create a variable it allows you to select the InfoObject the variable should be associated with. For example if you have an InfoObject that has a reference InfoObject, then a variable created on this InfoObject is not visible on the reference InfoObject. I think variables created on navigational attributes also show different behavior, unless you select the base Infoobject as the reference Infoobject for the variable. With 3.x the InfoObject to which variable is attached behaves differently.
If you try to create a new variable with the same technical name as the one you created in 7x, you will get the message that the variable already exists. Check the reference infoobject for the variable you created in 7.0 and that may help you. You might want to check out the details of the variable in RSZGLOBV table for any clues.
    Thanks

  • Heading for Different Types  in Query designer

We have three different types Direct, Indirect and Others. Where Indirect and Others are fixed values and Direct types are dynamic which are getting from ECC.
So they are expecting heading before each type and result according to these types.
Tried so many options but not able to achieve the desired result as expected in Query Designer.
Please find the attached document for desired output
Please provide some inputs how can we achieve at the report level.

    hi Naresh,
Structures are objects that you define in the BEx Query Designer. You can define reusable structures as well. they form the basic framework of a report. You can have maximum of 2 structures in a query. In such case you cannot have the same KeyFigure in both the structures.
You can also define a structure for a Characteristic.
    Please check out these links.

    Limitations of Structures usage
You can have maximum of two structures only ... One for kfs and one for characteristics..A characteristic can't be included in a KF structure and a KF can'be included in a characteristic structure...
We can't have 2 KF structures but we can have 2 Char Structure or 1 KF Structure and 1 Char Structure.

    Hi,
Structures in Query designer are reusable across all the queries for particular info provider once you save in the query designer.

  • What is the use of Condition is Query Designer  ??

What is the use of Condition in Query Designer  ??
How to use condition in   Query Designer  ??

    Hi,
Conditions in a query can be defined for both characteristic combinations and key figures.
Characteristic combinations can be used using the ranking list functionality (e.g Top N or Last N customers with highest sales).
Key figures can be assigned the value limit conditions ( for e.g. display only rows in the query for which the key figure > 10 ).
For your specific requirements in which you need to display only a limited set based on the key figures, then you can go for conditions.
The conditions can be allowed to work on all the drill down characteristics independently, single characteristics or combination as well based on your requirement.
While execution the report, you can activate or deactivate the condition anytime by right clicking on the data cells.

  • Difference Beetween Query Designer and Adhoc Query Designer

    Hello!
can any one explain me what exactly is Adhoc query designer and how is it different from  Bex Query designer. can you please provide me links for Adhoc query designer (not to Bex query designer)
    with regards

    Hi Ashwin,
    See this link:
    http://help.sap.com/saphelp_nw04/helpdata/en/1f/03223c5f00612be10000000a11402f/content.htm
Basically the Adhoc query designer is a web item that you can include in a web template to allow the user to create or change queries in the web environment. It has some limitations like you cannot use variables, and can only use one structure.
    Hope this helps...

  • Can Business Object Access Queries from the BI query designer?

    Hi Gurus,
I've started working with BOBJ and honestly I'm not impressed with it's functionalities, specially with the report layouts (SO many limitations!!). Anyway I was wondering if Business Objects can access BI Queries in the Query Designer since I can do most of the manupilation in Query Designer that I need. Thank You in advance and any help will be most certainly appreciated.

  • Currency Conversion problem in query designer

    Hi,
A requirement has come that infoobject which contain multiple currency type, need to convert into a single currency type in Bex reporting as user want to see only one currency value in report.
There are three keyfigures refering different calenders for conversion. For examle . GR amount is based on GR date, IR amount is based on IR date and PO amount is based on Doc date. Query is build based on a infoset.
I am doing following steps to achieve the task::
    1. In TCODE - RSCUR, created three Currency Conversion Type each for GR, IR and PO and each one refering different 0calday calender
    2. Defined exchange Rate Type as "M"
    3. Currency Tab -> Source Currency = "Source Currency from data Record"
Target Currency -> Fixed Target Currency = "USD"
    4. Time Ref. Tab -> Fixed Time ref. = "Current Date"
Variable time reference = "To the exact day"
        Special InfoObject = <InfoObject name>
    5. In query designer, Key figure property for GR amount -> Conversion -> Conversion type = <Name of Currency Conversion Type which defined in RSCUR>
    6. Repeated the same for IR Amount and PO Amount key figure
    While saving, getting following error::
*Cannot apply Currency translation type <Currency type name> in Infocube <Infoset name>. *
    Diagnosis
You tried to translate a query element with the currency translation type <Currency type name>. The translation type <Currency type name>, however, has variable time reference or variable target currency relevant to characteristic Document Date. Characteristic Document Date is also not available in InfoProvider <Infoset name> and it references either none or more than one characteristic () of the InfoProvider for Document Date, or Document Date is not a base characteristic.
    System Response
    Procedure
Adjust the query definition or create a special currency translation type for one of the characteristics .
    Please help!
Please note that there are three key figures which need conversion using different calenders.
    Sanjiv

    Hello,
I have done the same what you said, but same error still showing....
I also tried to change from "Special InfoObject" to Infoset level and it works with one KF. Since all three KF are under one Infoset and there is limitation that if Currency Conversion Type is defined on Infoset level then only one KF will be assigned for a Infoset where as I am using three KFs with three relevant time characteristic.
    Any suggesion from others?

  • Maximum number of records displayed on the browser using Query Designer.

When you display a query on the web using Query Designer is there a maximum limit of how many records (rows) it can display? For example, can it handle 25 million records?
    Thanks.

    Hi Sebastian,
I still find such a requirement weird as one cannot definitely go thru' so much of data at a time - it would thus always make sense to perhaps filter on some criteria which would make analysis & perhaps even download much faster. The limit as I understand is approx 750,000 data cells. Maybe the below link & SAP notes can help validate
Limitation in No. Of data cells displayed in BEx Analyzer

  • Drill down by customer only for 1 year (only total then) in query designer

    Hello experts,
I face a need I don't manage to fit with the query designer. It sounds easy, but I didn't find solution after few trials.
The target report has to look like that :
           01.2010   02.2010   03.2010   04.2010   u2026   12.2010   Total
    Customer
cust 1        ratio          ratio         ratio          ratio    ratio     ratio     Total
cust 2        ratio          ratio         ratio          ratio    ratio     ratio     Total
cust 3        ratio          ratio         ratio          ratio    ratio     ratio     Total
cust 4        ratio          ratio         ratio          ratio    ratio     ratio     Total
cust 5        ratio          ratio         ratio          ratio    ratio     ratio     Total
cust 6        ratio          ratio         ratio          ratio    ratio     ratio     Total
Year 2010   total          total          total          total    total      total      total
2009      total           total          total          total    total      total      total
2008      total           total          total          total    total      total      total
2007      total           total          total          total    total      total      total
The particular point disturbing me is to display detailled ratio according to customer caractéristique ONLY for the current year (2010) and ONLY TOTAL for past years.
Thanks in advance for help, points will be awarded.
    Guillaume

    Hi Petiaux,
All the replies have been correct & all you need to do is a combination of a few. A step-by-step approach for your report, I'll explain in detail, and please correct me if I'm wrong.
    01.2010 02.2010 03.2010 04.2010 u2026 12.2010 Total
    Customer
cust 1 ratio ratio ratio ratio ratio ratio Total
cust 2 ratio ratio ratio ratio ratio ratio Total
cust 3 ratio ratio ratio ratio ratio ratio Total
cust 4 ratio ratio ratio ratio ratio ratio Total
cust 5 ratio ratio ratio ratio ratio ratio Total
cust 6 ratio ratio ratio ratio ratio ratio Total
Year 2010 total total total total total total total
So, the above is the first set of details you need to make. Follow up by using offsets for 1 variable followed up till the 12th month. Create a variable for 0CALMONTH (Cal Yr-Month) in a selection. Follow up by copying this variable 12 times, changing the offset of the input varaible to +1, +2, etc..
Now for the next set as below, there are 2 approaches.
2009 total total total total total total total
2008 total total total total total total total
2007 total total total total total total total
    1. If you are using i/p variable as Cal-Month, then its best you can approach to find the differences by making a selection for the same variable in a range like New Var (EnterMonth -12 : Enter Month -23 ). Same fashion, approach to calculate (EnterMonth - 24 : EnterMonth-35) etc. But limitations are there for this approach, as you need to select ranges & with each year you need to update the query.
    2. Use CELL Editor: At the top of the icon tray, you can notice a 'cell' symbol, wherein you can find the cell editor. Under the 2009, 2008, 2007 headings you can choose to create a selection with following restrictions: 0CALYEAR (Cal Year) as varaible. But the only thing here is the input variable for this query must be 2 seperate variables > One CALYEAR & another CALMONTH. So this is another approach, where user will have option to enter cal month & cal year seperately in 2 different text input boxes.
    3. Perform the calculation for 2010. Copy the same for 2009,2008,2007 etc with offsets. You can try hiding the rest of the month feilds, after calculating the total for all months of the years in 2009,2008 etc using offsets. Although it sounds crazy idea, but sometimes if customers require such an output we need to do something crazy though. I hope it might work, but as stated its the last option if nothing works out.

  • Variables in APD Query Design

    Hi Guru's,
Can somebody please help me, in understanding the query design when we are using it as a source to apd. I have a scenario where i do some transformation using abap and then send the output to a pc file. However, i have huge data in the underlined multiprovider of a query( say 20 million) and the query is getting timed out.
The only way is to have query variables to be able to restrict the data. When I do that, the APD is not supporting. Did somebody came across these scenario's.
Any ideas will be highly appreciated.
    Thanks.

    Hi,
can you please tell me if you are using BI oder BW ? In BI you can use variables in filter, in BW you can't.
If you have problems in an APD to get all the required data, check, if you have limited your load to only required fields. Always keep in mind that each step of an APD is done in memory. So if your system cannot provide enough memory, it starts swapping and become slow. To avoid this, try working with minimal fields.
If at all possible do not use a Query as Input. Use the Cube instead and apply filters in the next step. It seems that optimization then only collects the required data.
ABAP Steps are not of much use as a filter, because for them the whole content of the data source is read. So all is in memory, and only then the ABAP coding including the filter will apply.
    Hope this helps.
    Kind regards,
    Jürgen
