Naming of Business objects

Also I would like to know how we name different objects in BI.

Hi sudha;
The following namespaces are generally available for BW objects:
SAP-delivery (Business Content) namespace:
        Objects beginning with 0
Generated objects in the DDIC beginning with /BI0/
InfoCube 0SALES, fact table /BI0/FSALES
Customer namespace:
        Objects beginning with A-Z
Generated objects in the DDIC beginning with /BIC/
InfoCube SALES, fact table /BIC/FSALES
Partner-specific namespace and customer-specific namespace:
        Object begins with /XYZ/ (example)
Special SAP namespaces for generated objects:
The prefixes 1, 2, 3, 4, 6, 7, 8 are required in BW for DataSources and InfoSources in special SAP applications.
The prefix 9A is required for the SAP APO application.
Hope this helps

  • Business Objects XIR3.1 and BI4.1 Licensing structure

    Hello,
We have a number of named  (BOEP) Business Objects Ebterprise  professional licenses for XIR3.1.
Q1. I am assuming that any named user on the BOEP, should be able to use any of the Server / Desk top products.
I have been advised by my acct manager that we need a separate licence / cost for using Webi Rich Client tool (available on the desktop ?
    Is this correct ?
Is there a list of document to tell me what is Desktop tools (Deski, Webi , Designer0 and Server tools (Infoview, Webi) etc ate are covered by BOEP license ?
We are planning to migrate to BI4.1
Hence, What tools are covered for a BOEP named user  license. In particular we want to continue using Deski in compatible mode .
Any documents, help or enlightenment on this will be of great assistance.
Yes, I can go to my SAP BO acct manager - but due to mixed messages I want to get this sorted
    Thanks in Advance
    Sanjay

    Hi Sanjay,
Please check the SAP support site for more details.
http://service.sap.com --> go to "Key and Requests" tab
If this is not enough, please raise a message/incident to get support from SAP on this. They can provide a clear understanding about your license keys.
Components to be selected while creating a support incident/message as below:
Facing issues with the license key request or creation?
Create a message using the component
    XX-SER-LIKEY for SAP Business Suite
    XX-SER-LIKEY-BOJ for SAP BusinessObjects
    XX-SER-LIKEY-SYB for SAP Sybase
    Hope this helps!!

  • Naming standards for reports in Business Objects?

    Dear colleagues,
I am about to start development of universes, queries and reports in Business Object for a client. Does anyone of you have any tips on naming standards for the reports? The source system that the dataware house is based on is a fund system. Often the name can be some letters and some numbers. Is there any logic behind this that I can follow?
    I will sign points!
    Kind regards
    Silje

    Hi Silje,
Naming convetions should really tie in with your own processes. So it hard to say there is one for all.
I generally create a report library. This is a simple list in Excel of the reports. It will contain the following
Report Id: A number that is unique to each report, e.g. 1000
Report Name: A short descriptive name, Monthly_Returns
Report Location: The folder path to the report
Report Description: A full descriptive name
Report Contact: The person to contact about the report, developer or support person
Report Owner: Business Owner of the report
In WebI I would then call the report 1000_Monthly_Returns. I generally use the folder name to point to the area, so in the case of funds this report would be in the Funds folder.
    Hope this helps

  • BO Business Object Naming Convention

    Hi experts,
we are about to implement SAP Business objects (previously using only using SAP BW). As part of the implementation we are creating a naming convention / standard for Webi and Universe. Is there anything published on SDN or the web regarding naming conventions / standards or is anyone willing to share some tips.
    BR
    Anders

    Hi Anders,
In regards to naming your universe objects, please take a look at my blog post re Universe Best Practices (Link: [http://geek2live.net/posts/universe-design-best-practices/]).
I would always recommend naming universe objects (classes, dimensions, measures etc) in business terminology and being explicit in the definition.  For instance, an object called 'Sales' could be interpreted many different ways.  Is it Sales Revenue, Count of Sales Orders, Count of Sales Order Lines, Average Sales Amount, etc etc?
Your universes should also be named explicitly so users understand exactly what it contains.  Another example - a Finance universe could contain many things - is it General Ledger Actuals, General Ledger Budgets, Fixed Assets, Accounts Payable etc..
The most important thing imho, is to define a standard that everyone who is designing universes uses, without exception.  Otherwise the standards don't mean anything to the end users.
    Good luck!

  • SAP Log on into Business Objects server not working (Error FWB 00014)

    Hello,
I recently installed Business Objects XI 3.1 Edge series, I am able to logon to enterprise and everything is working fine. I am even able to import roles from SAP system but I have two problems.
    1. Logging on to enterprise using SAP user: I am getting the following error message when I choose SAP in the Athentication and enter SAP username and password and click log on.
"Account Information Not Recognized: All of your system's 0 Concurrent Access Licenses are in use at this time or your system's license key has expired. Try again later or contact your administrator to obtain additional licenses. (FWB 00014)".
    2. Logging on to SAP system through SAP Logon pad: When I enter my username and passord in SAP system from the same server as I installed BusinessObjects I am getting a run time error.
Did any one of you had the same problem or does any one of you have any clue how to solve this?
    Thanks in advance.

    Hi,
I assume that you have a key for named licences (You can check this in the CMC under Licence keys).
What you need to do is to go in the CMC, navigate to Authentication->SAP->Options and select the Named users option.

  • Error while creating Business Object

    Hello All,
I am creating one business object for the Chapter ID. But while creating API method the error message is coming up as "Parameter <parametername> does not have a reference structure".
But I already defined BAPI Structure which has the required fields and also i follow the Std. naming convenions.
Kindly guide me for the same.
    Egarly Waiting for the reply.
    Regards
    Nilesh Shete

    Hi Nilesh,
could you please go a bit more into detail?
Best would be to post the interesting parts of your source code here.
At the moment I can only guess that you created an adaptive RFC model. But did you also create a context node and bind the model to it?
What do you mean with "creating API method" and "I am creating one business object for the Chapter ID"?

  • Business Objects - Lifecyle Management Services

Is there anyone who knows about BOE LCM?  We are planning to install a 3-tier (Dev/QA/Prod) Business Objects environments.  Our desire is to develop in Dev, move to QA for testing and Prod.  We would prefer not to have end users develop Xcelsius dashboards in production.  Just looking for anyone with experience or additional SAP documentation I can not find.

  • Problem with PermGen memory (Java) - Tomcat Server - Business Object XI

We have installed Business Objects XI on a W2003 Standard with SP2 (x86), using Tomcat as web server and MySQL as DBMS. The server has 4 GB of RAM and dual-core processor. From the beginning we have been given the memory problems of the Java virtual machine. The exception that occurs is of type "java.lang.OutOfMemoryError: PermGen space failure". We modify environment variables (JAVA_OPTS) -XX: PermSize = 256m and-XX: MaxPermSize = 512m and install the monitor LambdaProbe to see the use made of memory. We note that at no time was the PermGen memory indicated by these variables, continuing in that has a default 64MB. For this reason we decided to change the Tomcat 5.5 BO included in the version 6.0.20 and also updated Java to version 1.6.0_18-b07, and make deployment by wdeploy.bat file that comes with BusinessObjects (changing config.tomcat55 and tomcat55.xml). The deployment was successful and everything works, but as with the previous version of Java / Tomcat, shortly PermGen memory fills and returns to "hang". In this latest version of Tomcat installed as a service, do not use environment variables, use an application, "Configure Tomcat", which is a tab to pass parameters to the JVM. After looking at many sites, I have seen to be putting "-D" to pass the parameter. Currently this is my configuration:
    -Dcatalina.home = C: \ Program Files \ Apache Software Foundation \ Tomcat 6.0-Dcatalina.base = C: \ Program Files \ Apache Software Foundation \ Tomcat 6.0-Djava.endorsed.dirs = C : \ Program Files \ Apache Software Foundation \ Tomcat 6.0 \ endorsed-Djava.io.tmpdir = C: \ Program Files \ Apache Software Foundation \ Tomcat 6.0 \ temp-Djava.util.logging.manager = org.apache.juli . ClassLoaderLogManager-Djava.util.logging.config.file = C: \ Program Files \ Apache Software Foundation \ Tomcat 6.0 \ conf \ logging.properties-Dcom.sun.management.jmxremote-D-Xms2g-D-Xmx2g-D -XX: + UseConcMarkSweepGC-D-XX:-D PermSize = 256m-XX: MaxPermSize = 512m-Daf.configdir = C: / Program Files / Business Objects / Dashboard and Analytics 12.0-D-verbose: gc-D-XX : + PrintGCTimeStamps-D-XX: + PrintGCDetails
I tried changing the values of-XX: PermSize and XX: MaxPermSize, and modifying the various policies of the Garbage Collector (-XX: + UseConcMarkSweepGC,-XX: + UseParNewGC,-XX: + UseParallelGC, ...), but nothing. Any idea how to get change the value of the report? Or how to solve this problem?
    Thank you!

    Victor,
Is the Product you are using BusinessObjects Enterprise XI (Release 1)?
With XIR2 and XI31, Tomcat 5.0 and Tomcat 5.5 are included with the software, and when installed with the BOE installer, you will get an application installed to the startmenu named "Tomcat Configuration".
Using this "Tomcat Configuration" utility, there are several configuration options available.  On the JAVA tab, you will see the JAVA_OPTS that are set (These are prefixed with "-D") and also your initial and max memory sizes are listed at the bottom (Max 1024 by default in XI31).
Here is the default setting for permsize in XI31 Tomcat:
    -XX:MaxPermSize=256M
From your post, your issue might be the spaces in between your values (there should be no spaces, each "-" parameter on its own line).
I would suggest starting Tomcat and reviewing your stdout.log file to review what options were set.
    Hope that helps
    -Brian

  • BI report tools VS Business Object

    Hi Gurus,
I would like to understand differences between reporting capabilities in NW2004S-BI and Business Object. Do you have any document or link ?
And about SAP licences ? If I install BO over BW must I pay for all users in any case or I must pay only for Administrator users ?
I will assign points for all valuable answers. Thank you in advance.
    Ciao.
    Riccardo.

    Riccardo,
Crystal reports is not supported with NW04s...
    please visit
    www.service.sap.com/businessobjects
same is mentioned here also :
    http://help.sap.com/saphelp_nw2004s/helpdata/en/44/879d55d1695918e10000000a1553f7/frameset.htm
reproducing the message from the support portal :
SAP and Business Objects have decided to end the area of their partnership that relates to formatted reporting for BI by mutual consent. This will be effective as of the end of September. The software partnership with Business Objects and their Powered by SAP NetWeaver status are not affected.
the reseller agreement ended on September 30th, 2006
existing customers will still be able to get updates/upgrades (new releases) without additional costs as long as the number of cpu's/named users stays as is
for releases newer than Business Objects XI Release 1 the software delivery process has changed
SAP itself does not provide these new releases through the SAP service marketplace but forwards such requests to Business Objects
Business Objects triggers the shipment (or provides access to its download area) and takes also care for the license key provisioning if needed
for future requests please use csn (xx-part-crr)

  • Business Objects Enterprise Licensing for Crystal Reports

I am new to Business Objects & Crystal Reports. I have recently been given the repsonsibility of supporting our BO XI R2 environment. This system is not in production yet, but initial use has shown an inability to create a crystal report.
If I select Crystal Reports Explorer in Business Objects Enterprise Applications, I get the following error:
"You do not have the correct keycode installed to use this option. Please contact your support office for further details."
I informed my boss who provided me with a "Crystal Reports Explorer Windows XI R2 License CPU English" keycode.
I entered this keycode in the License keys correctly. The license reflects "BusinessObjects Crystal Reports Explorer" but does not show any licenses - just dashes for named users, concurrent users, processors, expires...
I still get the same error when accessing the Crystal Reports Explorer.
Am I missing something here? Is there more that I need to do, or is there a problem with the keycode?

Please post this query to the Business Objects Enterprise Administration forum:
    BI Platform
That forum is monitored by qualified technicians and you will get a faster response there. Also, all BOE queries remain in one place and thus can be easily searched in one place.
    Thank you for your understanding,
    Ludek

  • Crystal Reports Server XI - A subset of Business Objects Enterprise?

    Post Author: RVM
    CA Forum: General
I'm evaluating Crystal Reports Server XI with a view to fulfilling the reporting requirements of my Client. I've identified Crystal Reports Server XI as the ideal solution and have been looking for documentation that describes the constituents of CRS XI and the architecture of the product from a technical perspective. I haven't been able to locate an administrators guide for CRS XI similar to the one available for crystal Enterprise 10 and Business Objects Enterprise XI R2. I've read that CRS XI is a subset of Business Objects Enterprise XI and as such has the same arichitecture. COuld some please clarify what constituents of BO Enterprise XI also reside within CRS XI?
    Thanks in advance,
    RVM

    Post Author: yangster
    CA Forum: General
It is kind of annoying that they didn't bother to create any documentation for Crystal Server XI.I've used both products and the key difference is that Crystal Server XI is limited to 20 user licenses (combination of either named or concurrent types) so if you have a very large user environment then your only choice may be BO XI.In terms of development and deployment the key difference between the 2 is that BO XI allows you to create universes.  Which in terms allows you to use the Webi functionality.  You can still use webi in Crystal Server but that's kind of pointless as the only universes you will be able to report off are sample universes.  Within Crystal Server you will still have all the functionality that exist in BO XI with the exception of the universes so you can still build business views, list of values, schedule reports, create custom calenders, etc.  So if you were to just snip out everything that deals with universes in the BO XI admin guide you'd have the Crystal Server admin guide.

  • How to reference Business Objects Assembly in C#

For one of our project, we are creating BO Reports (as .REP, .PDF files) and it is automated one using macros. In macros, we are passing parameters to the report.
Now we need to reimplement the same in .NET.
We have installed Business Objects XI Release 2 and selected "Desktop Intelligence" in Client machine.
While trying to create a VS.NET Windows application, we didnt find any assemblies to add and we found COM dll named "Business Objects Library 11.5".
Now, are we referring the right assemby for developing the application? If no, then what is the exact assembly and where it can be downloaded.
Please provide us any samples/links on how to use the .REP file in .NET application.
    Thanks in advance

  • Attributes Problem in Business Object

    Hi,
We had a requirement of creating a new Business Object with a couple of attributes(both Database and Virtual Attributes)
So, as per the requirement, I created my Business Object with all the required attributes. And I have coded the required Business Logic for my Virtual Attributes.
Now, I created my Business Object's method's using these attributes(OBJECT-ATTRIBUTE_NAME) in my methods wherever required.
Finally, I tested the Business Object in SWO1(Business Object Builder), here are my observations...
    1) The Database attributes is getting created properly and I can see the values for the required
    2) The Virtual Attributes are getting created as per the Business Logic and I can see the desired result for this also.
    3) The methods are giving desired results.
Now, my doubt is, when I trigger one of this Business Object's method from workflow, the attribute values(OBJECT-ATTRIBUTE_VALUE) are not visible inside the method. But if I test the same BO using SWO1, I can see all the Attribute values(OBJECT-KEYFIELDS).
I can only see the KEY FIELDS of the Business Object in Debug mode, I mean, I can view OBJECT-KEY-KEYFIELD value, but not the OBJECT-ATTRIBUTENAME inside the BO'S method in Debug mode-when triggered from Workflow.
Well, I am triggering the Workflow using the SWUD transaction and infact I am creating the required Instances in the first screen of SWUD.
Can anyone make me clear why this is happening?
    Regards,
    <i><b>Raja Sekhar</b></i>

    Hi people,
    Thanks for immediate reply.
Well, I think I didnt explain my problem clearly...
Well, here is my clear explanation.
I created a new Business Object named ZOBJECT say...
    It has 3 key fields...
    PERNR(Employee Number),BEGDA(Start Date) and ENDDA(End Date)
    It has 2 attributes...
One is a Databsase Attribute - ENAME which gets populated from database PA0001.
Another is a Virtual Attribute - EMAILID which gets populated from some Business Logic.
    And it has one Event...ZEVENT
    It has one method...
SENDMAIL - Which sends the email to the EMAILID Attribute. So my coding looks something like this...
    METHOD SENDMAIL.
      DATA : W_FROMEMAIL TYPE PA0105-USRID_LONG,
             W_TOEMAIL TYPE PA0105-USRID_LONG,
             W_SUBJECT(100),
IT_TEXT TYPE STANDARD TABLE OF SOLI.
      W_FROMEMAIL = '[email protected]'.
      W_TOEMAIL = OBJECT-EMAILID.
      W_SUBJECT = 'Test Mail'.
Populate the mail content into IT_TEXT Internal table
      call function 'YHSENDEMAIL'
          EXPORTING
            FROMEMAIL = W_FROMEMAIL
            TOEMAIL   = W_TOEMAIL
            SUBJECT   = W_SUBJECT
          TABLES
            IT_TEXT   = IT_TEXT.
    ENDMETHOD.
So as shown above I designed my Business Object.
And I tested this Business Object from SWO1(Business Object Builder) Transaction itself. I am able to get the desired result. Everything seems perfect till now.
Now, I created my workflow with ZOBJECT-ZEVENT as the Start Event.
I created one Standard Task to send EMail which in turn calls up my ZOBJECT-SENDEMAIL Method.
So when I called this method, I found that OBJECT-EMAIL inside the method is not populated, ultimately, no mail is going.
I dont understand why the attribute values are not populated when I call the same method from workflow.
When I checked the workflow log, I can see my attribute values for the ZOBJECT. But in the Method, I cant access the attribute values as such...But I am able to access the Key fields of the method...
Can anybody explain me the reason for this behavior?
I checked the BINDING, Everthing seems perfect from this side...So I dont think it's a binding problem.

  • SAPBI data accessing from Business objects and other OLAP tools

    Hi,
We already have heavy usage of Business Object, Essbase and are planning to implement SAPBI 7.0
        a) We are planning to connect our existing Business
Objects infrastructure onto the new SAPBI platform, Did
You experience any issues such as performance,
config issues, delays, web issues.. is there any
document or link with steps involved in integrating
            Business objects and SAPBI
         b) Can Bex analyzer gives simliar functionalities that
are in Essabse front- end (EXCEL), I know that the
backend data managament is quite different, but my
question is around user  interface, do you have any
            comparisons between these two tools.
         c) Is it possible to get data from SAPBI using external
reporting tools (OLAP) such as Oracle Discoverer ...
    Regards,
    Raman

if the export to XML file is successful, the file will not be deleted if you are creating it from Metadata Exchange.
The file gets deleted in case you are using the create universe option and by default the file is created in %LINK_DIR%\log\MetadataExchange, you will also see ME_errorlog.txt and ME_outputlog.txt if there are any errors, do you see and erros in these files if you are creating the Universe directly from DS Designer ?
to use Metadata Exchange do the following
    Open Data Services Desginer
Click on tools Menu -> Metadata Exchange
    In the Metadata Exchange window
Select Export Data Services metadata to a file
Select DI CWM as metadata format
enter location for xml file (C:\temp)
Select the datastore you want to create Universe for
    Click OK
Check for file named repo_export.xml in the C:\temp folder or the folder that you specified
    Open Universe Builder and Select
    Data Integrator bridge
and use the xml file as input to create universe

  • Business Objects Enterprise SDK application.

    Hi All,
I am planning to develop a custom web application using BOE 3.1 java SDK's.
I would like to create only application level users, these users would be mapped with a single BO user account to create enterprise session.
That means, My application "A" will have say 10 users (i.e. 10 userid and passwords). All these users will their different sets of userid's and passwords (custom application users), they can login into the application using application level credentials,  however to login into the enterprise the application will internally use only one BO user credential (i.e. only one named user acount info.)
    eg:
user1-login -> application>logins using BO userX userid and password>BO Enterprise session created
user2-login -> application>logins using BO userX userid and password>BO Enterprise session created
user3-login -> application>logins using BO userX userid and password>BO Enterprise session created
    and so on.
The idea is to purchase only one named user licence and create many application level users to login into BOE; but using the same BO user account.
Is this approach legal in-terms of licensing?
Would appreciate any help on this.
    Regards,
    Jon

    Hello Adam,
    Thank you very much.
    Please see the following post:
    Business Objects Enterprise 3.1 Licensing
    Tim says:
names means you can have five users created, any amount logged on concurently (i.e the administrator could have 10 sessions, usera 20 etc no limit) But you can only create 5 different users names
that means 1 Named user eg: 'A'  can login into the enterprise using his credentials and create any amount of enterprise sessions concurrently for self right??
Each named user is for a specific user and not to be shared. If you were using concurrent user licensing, than this would be ok to use one enterprise user account.
5 Concurrent linceses means one user account created in enterprise but, account info can be shared with 5 users, so they can login using same credentials and create five different enterprise sessions?? right?
so, I can purchase one- 5 concurrent user license and share it with 5 users? OR purchase 5 named user licences and share it with 5 users?
Either ways my understanding is number of users=number or linceses available (named or concurrent). please correct me if I am wrong.
Now, which one is cost effective named user lincenses or concurrent?
    Awaiting your response.
    Regards,
    Jon
