Nano appears dead 3rd gen

was playing fine then screen went blank. I have tried the 5 wotsnames, have plugged it into the PC...nothing other than an error message ....usb device not recognised. I have also plugged it into a seperate power source..but still dead..Is there anything else I can do ?

Whoa! Fixed! I just saw another related thread and I got mine to work again. Try pushing the center and menu buttons simultaneously for about 10 seconds (this time I used a finger on each button, straight down). Worked for me. Good luck.

  • Nano 2nd and 3rd gen

I am about to get my wife a 3rd gne nano but I have concerns when we sync with the computer. Can we have different itunes? Will the computer/ipods allow us to link to the same computer?
    Thanks in advance

Just get a regular ipod classic or something other than a 3rd gen. This is the worst purchase I could have ever made. It won't sync, occassionally it will but usually not. It will work on my son's computer, but that is not really an option since it doesn't have all my settings so it is extremely difficult to transfer music. I am actually sending mine in for repair/replacement, hopefully they will replace, but I think since I had it engraved that I'm pretty much screwed.
Well, good luck if you do get a Nano.

  • Nano appears dead

I have a second generation Nano. I have only had it for 3 months and I went to play it in my car and it went completely dead, or so it seems. I had it fully charged before plugging it in, and now the screen is black. I tried plugging it into my computer and there is no change. It is not recognized by iTunes or the computer. I have also tried resetting it and there is no change. Any solution to my problem?
    Second generation Nano   Windows XP

Wow! I can't wait to see what that looks like. I was just at the Apple store and they only have the 3rd generation Nano for sale
Let's first figure out what iPod you have. Go here:
    http://www.apple.com/support/ipod/five_rs/
And pick the one that looks most like yours. Also, under settings, click on about and tell us how much memory it has.
Then, let's make sure you went through all the proper steps for trying to unstick an iPod. Click on the one that looks like yours, and do everything in order.
    Let us know...

  • 4G 3rd Gen Ipod Nano - "Appears to be Corrupted"

I'm getting the the following error:
"Itunes has detected and Ipod that appears to be corrupted. You may need to restore this Ipod before it can used with Itunes. You may also try disconnecting and reconnecting the Ipod."
I've tried connecting the new Ipod to my G4 Mac OS X 10.3.9 Itunes 6 and with my PC running Windows XP with Itunes 7.4.2 (most recent update as far as I can tell).
Is this a factory defect? I bought the nano a few days ago and it hasn't worked yet. The actual device itself looks fine, powers up and on, allows me to click through the menus and select all the categories.
    Any advice here?

Did you get this error message on the PC? If you did, it most likely has a drive collision problem with something else attached to the computer. Connect the 3rd Gen Nano to a rear port on your PC, and connect your mouse and keyboard. Disconnect ALL other USB devices including printers, scanners, digital cameras, external hard drives, thumb drives, improbability drives, modems, etc. and disconnect from any network you might be on. Now change the drive letter of the iPod to something much higher like M or P ro Z, so long as you have no other devices using these letters.

The 3rd Generation Nano won't work with either OS X 10.3.9 or iTunes 6.

  • Transferred itunes library from Windows XP PC to new Windows 7 PC. plugged in 3rd gen Ipod. Ipod icon appears along with playlists, music etc. Songs are grayed out and won't play. Please help!

I recently transferred itunes library from windows XP PC to new Windows 7 PC. The transfer was successful, however when I plug my 3rd gen Ipod Nano into the new PC, the Ipod icon appears along with the music, playlists, etc. The songs are shown but are 'grayed out' and wont play or sync. The 'Devices & Printers' window in new PC shows icon for Ipod driver & is OK. The icon for the Ipod appears but depicts a delta shaped warning icon that states that the Ipod is'not operating properly'. Tried troubleshooting. The troubleshooting message states the the Ipod is 'disconnecting'. Can you help me with this problem?

Then, I dropped the entire itunes file from the old PC (XP) into an empty external drive.
That "itunes file from the old PC"?  Is that the iTunes folder, from the old PC, that was in the user home folder's Music folder?
All of the library, playlists, etc. from the ipod as they always have been are shown, by they are 'grayed out' and will not open or play.
That's on the iPod, correct?  Are all of your old playlists in iTunes, from the old PC, still there in iTunes on the new PC?  Are the songs in iTunes still playable?
This document provides the steps to transfer a complete iTunes library between two computers.  See the section called External drive.
iTunes: How to move your music to a new computer - Apple Support
There are many steps, but this is a summary.  (1) On the old PC, consolidate all of your iTunes data into the iTunes folder.  (2) Copy this iTunes folder to the external drive.  (3) On the new PC (that has iTunes installed but NOT running), replace its existing iTunes folder with the one from the old PC (on the external drive).  When you run iTunes, it uses the iTunes folder from the old PC, and it should look like iTunes on the old PC (with all the playlists, ratings, play count, etc.), and your iPod will see the iTunes library as the same iTunes library (because it is the same library).
If you did something different, and the old PC is still accessible, you may want to try it using the method from the linked document.

  • 3rd gen iPod nano is not correctly recognized on new Windows 7 iTunes

Moved my iTunes library from old PC to new Win7 PC via direct iTunes folder copy.
    Looked ok
but when I connect my 3rd Gen Nanos, I get dire warnings that I have to authorize new PC with my son's AppleID not mine (was originally his iPod but long since factory reset and reloaded) or else iTunes will delete purchased songs. (The new PC is authorized for my Apple Id).
I have 2 of these iPods and the other one was never my son's so I don't know why it also thinks it needs his id.
When we check my son's account and look at devices, the iPods are not listed. (maybe only newer iOS devices are listed?) So I can't "remove" the iPods from that account via the iTunes Store account profile.
yes, I have tried reinstalling iTunes and wiping the registry - no luck.  If I "cancel" when the dire warnings come up instead of authorizing using my son's account, then the iPod is not recognized at all by iTunes (does appear as external drive in Windows) and I have to reinstall .... again.
    My questions are:
    1) do the old iPods themselves some how store the original Apple ID they were associated with?
    2) If so, how can I reset to use my Apple ID?
        Will "factory reset" work?
What I don't want is to reset and then find out I can't reload using current iTunes library associated with current Apple ID
    3)  I don't think this will solve the problem but: in iTunes, can I separately sign in  with both IDs and authorize the computer with both IDs? Can a single instance/install/library of iTunes use 2 different AppleIDs? (there are not 2 users on this PC - just 1. So just 1 iTunes instance, just 1 library)
    More details:
    I tried:
If I authorize the new PC for my son's account which the ipod and Itunes seems to want, then when the iPods are connected, all the song's listed in the library in main/right pane are greyed out and can't be selected.  I don't recall this being a problem on the old PC so something seems wrong.
    I am concerned that:
If I give up and authorize this PC for both Apple Id's,  then what?  If I buy something new from iTunes (using, can I sync it to the iPod?

Never mind, I think. I think I figured it out. There was 1 song (out of > 900!) that somehow had been purchased with the other ID - I have no idea how. Once I deleted that song, it stopped asking.
There may be something with the newest iTunes version too. I didn't think in older versions that the "On this iPod" list of songs was greyed out. But at least it syncs ok.

  • Ipod nano 3rd gen (click wheel)

I currently have a ipod nano 3rd gen with a click wheel. I have uninstalled, reinstalled itunes and rebooted my computer already (I have windows XP). It shows up in "My Computer" as unknown but itunes will not reconize the ipod is connected, but does with my other ipod. I've tried changing the drive letter on this 3rd gen; but it wont appear to even change the drive letter. I believe I need to download the drivers (its what i had to do with my previous ipod) but I would like a clue where to download the drivers from, or someone to shed any light and a solution for this issue. My ulitmate goal is to get itunes to reconize it so that I can restore the ipod
    Thanks.

Clickwheel games are no longer available in the iTunes store.  Sorry.

  • 3rd gen nano locked in connect mode

I have a 3rd gen Nano that was disconnected while charging without being ejected. Now it thinks it is still connected and I can't get it to do anything. I have tried resetting, plugging back in and trying to eject and restarting computer with it plugged in, nothing. Any suggestions?

I did try that but it didn't work at the time. However it seems to have fixed itself.  The way it was locked, it wouldn't even go to dark screen and turn off so this morning when I got up the battery was dead and it reset itself. Thanks for your input and help.

  • Need help registering iPod Nano (3rd Gen) into iTunes

Got the 3rd Gen iPod nano for Christmas, but I'm having difficulty setting it up.
The manual says I need to wait for something known as a "Setup Assist" to come up. Nothing ever did.
Also, in iTunes, it tells me (when I click on the iPod icon under "devices") that I still need to register the product. It takes me to the terms and conditions sheet, and as is typical, tells me to "agree to terms" and then... I click "save." it asks me to save an rtf file onto my computer. I do so, but nothing ever happens. And my iPod still won't work.
Am I saving it somewhere wrong? (I've saved it in My Documents, as well as the iPod and iTunes folders in My Programs)
Any help is appreciated, and Merry Christmas

Okay! I found out what to do.
What you're going to have to do is go into the Control Panel on your computer.
Go into "Appearance and themes." You're going to have to change the screen resolution. 1280x600 or so should do the trick.
Go back into iTunes and you should see the "continue" button on the far right. (Very scrunched up and annoying, I know. But it works!)
I hope that helps you out.

  • Ipod 3rd gen nano syncing problems.

My nano 3rd gen is fine, but when I plug it into Itunes, it says it's syncing, but on the ipod, it shows connected, but it was done syncing, and Itunes apparently can't finish syncing, even though the ipod shows completion. I can't add any songs either. Please assist me in this matter.

Try restoring your iPod. Restoring will erase the iPod's hard drive, reload the software and put it back to default settings. Once the restore is complete follow the on screen instructions to name the iPod and automatically sync your songs and videos onto the fresh installation. Press Done and the iPod will appear in iTunes and start to sync. If you want to sync using selected playlists uncheck the box beside the sync automatically instruction and press Done, it will default to manual mode and you can choose whatever setting you like: Restoring iPod to factory settings with iTunes

  • My ipod nano 3rd gen gets error code -9459 when I try to convert a video in Itunes

I'm tring to convert video from Youtube to play on my ipod nano 3rd gen.  When i go to itunes and Advanced and set it to convert for ipod it goes on for quite a while then about 3/4 way done I get error message Erroe occurred converting file "teapot 1". An unknown error (-9459)
What do I do?  I tried Real player converter too - no luck.

I'm not sure about the error message, but it might just be easier to use an application such as Handbrake or MPEG Streamclip to create an iPod compatible version of the video.

  • I have had an iPod Touch 3rd Gen for two years and the apps have worked fine in the past. Suddenly the apps will not launch, they appear to start then just exit. Is there a reason why it is doing this?

I have had an iPod Touch 3rd Gen for two years pretty much and the apps have worked fine. Suddenly when I go on an app it appears to launch then just exits. I tried turning the iPod off and on again, but that made all my apps behave like that. Settings and those things work fine still. Should this suddenly happen? I dont want to lose all 204 apps.

    - First try resetting the iPod. Nothing will be lost.
Reset iPod touch:  Press and hold the On/Off Sleep/Wake button and the Home
button at the same time for at least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
    - Next try downloading/installing a new app
    - Restore from backup
    - Last, resore to factory defaults/new iPod.  this is last result since you will lose app data.

  • Ipod nano 3rd Gen not recognized by itunes or windows 7

    USB device not recognized.
    things I have done
put Ipod in disk mode still didn't recognized
My Ipod Classic 6th Gen works fine
It shows 3 Mass Storage Device
when I plug in Ipod nano 3rd gen it shows unknow device
have deleted Mass storage devices and Apple Moble Devices
    unpluged computer from wall
    nothing solving problem
I also tried it on my laptop its not being recognized
my wife Ipod nano is doing the same thing as mine
its got to be the software download from itunes because it has worked on all previous versions.

I have the same problem. My Iphone 4s works fine when docked to PC. PC won't recognize my 3rd Gen Nano. Same goes for my Work PC. They don't recognize it nor will plugging it in to a PC charge it. I have to plug it into wall socket to charge.
I have tried resetting, I have tried downloading newest Itunes.
Must be the Nano itself if it doesn't get recognized by mutliple PCs?
I haven't used the Nano for probably 2 months. Previously it worked fine...
One thing, when docked to my laptop during a reboot/startup, it intially starts to charge the Nano, but once setup is finished it doesn't recognize it any longer...
