Nano appears dead

I have a second generation Nano. I have only had it for 3 months and I went to play it in my car and it went completely dead, or so it seems. I had it fully charged before plugging it in, and now the screen is black. I tried plugging it into my computer and there is no change. It is not recognized by iTunes or the computer. I have also tried resetting it and there is no change. Any solution to my problem?

Wow! I can't wait to see what that looks like. I was just at the Apple store and they only have the 3rd generation Nano for sale
Let's first figure out what iPod you have. Go here:
http://www.apple.com/support/ipod/five_rs/
And pick the one that looks most like yours. Also, under settings, click on about and tell us how much memory it has.
Then, let's make sure you went through all the proper steps for trying to unstick an iPod. Click on the one that looks like yours, and do everything in order.

was playing fine then screen went blank. I have tried the 5 wotsnames, have plugged it into the PC...nothing other than an error message ....usb device not recognised. I have also plugged it into a seperate power source..but still dead..Is there anything else I can do ?

Whoa! Fixed! I just saw another related thread and I got mine to work again. Try pushing the center and menu buttons simultaneously for about 10 seconds (this time I used a finger on each button, straight down). Worked for me. Good luck.

  • Distribution appears dead!

Does anyone know what the error message "Distribution appears dead!" means?
I have several distributions applied to several servers. They are set to
refresh hourly. All of them worked perfectly at one time, but now each
distribution is returning this error message for some, but never the same
    servers.
    For example:
Distribution 1 (inventory policy) reports the error on servers a,b, and c.
Distribution 2 (file distribution) reports the error on servers d, e, and
    f.
Distribution 3 (file distribution) returns the error on servers g, h, and
    i.
I've checked the KB, but found no reference to this error message.
    Thank you for your assistance.

  • IPhone appears dead

My phone appears dead. There is no activity on the screen. Nothing happens when I hold down the power and home buttons. There is no response to being charged by my computer or outlet. I took the SIM card out and put it back in. Still no activity. Is there a way to get the phone working again? Any ideas?
    Thanks.

Connect it to the wall charger for 30 minutes. Remove, then hold the HOME and SLEEP buttons for at least 10 seconds. An Apple logo should appear and the phone should reboot.
If it doesn't the battery may be bad, the cable may be bad, the charger may be bad, or the phone may be bad. So eliminate the ones you can; try a different cable and different charger. If it's still dead take it to an Apple store (make an appointment first) or toss it and get an iPhone 4.

  • 6th gen nano appears on desktop but not in itunes

6th gen nano appears on desktop when I plug it in, but not in itunes.  I've never set my ipod to disk mode.  It never did this before, why all of a sudden? Having the same problem when I plug my girlfriends nano into my computer too.  Any advice?  Both my OS and iTunes are at the most up to date versions.
    Thanks, Matt

Thanks for the response... that still didn't work for me but this latest iTunes update seems to have fixed the problem!

  • 1 GB Zen Nano Plus DEAD since I tried to update firmw

My gb NANO PLUS was working fine but would only show track names and not artists, albums, track numbers and I wanted to show those.
I have Dell laptop Inspiron 600m, Win XP - plenty of memory ( gb) and HD and no prior problems. Before, when I plugged my NANO into USB, it always showed up. I'd
always click "Safely Remove Hardware" to disconnect. I'd bought same unit for wife & daughter and they've worked fine.
I assumed the no "artist/album" info problem was from my loading music from Windows Explorer or MusicMatch and not from Creative desktop unit - or firmware.
So I go to Creative Download site and find these exe files:CMS_PCAPP_LB_3_30_2 (the desktop player, etc), MStorage_PCDRV_LB__07_00_250 (driver) and
    ZenNanoPlus_PCFW_LF__2_03 (firmware.
Desktop player loaded fine. Not sure about driver but I followed instuctions.
However, when it came to firmware, I followed instructions but now NANO acts DEAD. Screen on NANO is blank, it doesn't show up on Dell as USB devise or in Devise Manager (anywhere). I've changed battery and followed all FAQ advise. No help. The Creative download site instructions didn't say to format NANO so I didn't but later I see that one of the FAQs says to do that.
HOW DO I GET THE NANO WORKING AGAIN. And, when I do, how do I show track title, artist, album, track #, etc?

HOW DO I GET THE NANO WORKING AGAIN.
Try to reflash the firmware in recovery mode (see instructions on the firmware details page). Ignore the display, mine froze/turned off during a failed downgrade attempt, but the player still could be put into recovery mode and after the reflash it started working again.
And, when I do, how do I show track title, artist, album, track #, etc?
The player will only show the "Title" tag (or the filename if there aren't any ID3 tags). So the only way I can think of would be retagging the files, sticking the information you want into the title field.

  • My ipod nano appears to be dead

Theres nothing on the screen even after charging for a few hours, I've tried toggling the switch and holding the menu and select buttons. The odd thing is when it was plugged into the computer I can find all the music on the ipod path?? suggesting that the ipod is not actually fried?  Any suggestions.

    Try these.
    iPod won't turn on.
    iPod battery doesn't charge.
iPod doesn't appear in iTunes or on the Mac desktop.
When restoring the iPod, it's often useful to put it into disk mode first.

  • Help, My Nano is Dead

I was working out last night and sweat got on my nano and froze it. At first the screen froze, then it had the dead battery logo on the screen, then the apple logo appeared. All without me touching it at all. Then I tried to plug it in to my computer. Nothing happened. I tried to reset the nano. All that happened was the apple logo disappeared. I kept trying it and the screen would light up and then go away. This happened a few times. Since the last time the screen temporarily lit up, it has been dead ever since. I plug it in and nothing happens. I can't do any of the steps the website suggests. Am I completely screwed? Someone please help. Oh by the way, I bought this as a refurbished model.

seems to me that your poor poor nano died becuase the sweat caused a short somewhere inside. Where did the sweat land?

  • My iPod Nano is ,,dead" after formatting it

Hi. I've got a big problem
I bought an iPod Nano 2GB yesterday and i had problems with updating it, so I've formatted it (not restored- formatted using the right click in My Computer and ,,Format") And still the software didn't want to install... So I've restarted computer and unplugged iPod.
And now, it doesn's want to turn on (I think, that battery's full, beacuse I've charged it about an hour earlier). Maybe it's the fault of format? I've plugged an iPold and nothing happens... it's dead... ;(

    Hello,
    Have you seen this article?
    iPod won't turn on
Does your iPod respond if you try to reset it? (hold the "menu" and "select" (center) buttons together for 7 seonds until the Apple logo appears on screen).
After you try resetting it, does your iPod display anything when you connect it to your computer, or not?
Deos your iPod correctly go into disk mode if you try?
How to put your iPod into disk mode
Have you tried a restore on your iPod? Or do you get any error messages when trying to acess the iPod Updater? See this link for details about this...

  • Nano is dead after battery charge

I received my black nano last night and proceeded to charge it by connecting it to the front USB 2 port in my DP 2.5 powermac. Everything appeared allright, it seemed. But this morning when I tried to turn it on it didn't. I plugged it back for almost 5 hours, and after trying the resetting instructions (juggle with the hold button, and press menu and center for 5 to 6 sec) nothing worked. I'm stuck with customer service, but I guess my best bet is to go to a store nearby and have it checked?. Any guidance you can provide me with before going to Apple store?, it will be very much appreciated.

Wow what a bummer Leticia it sounds like its dead, if the Apple logo didnt appear after reset I would assume something has given up.
I hope you get a quick replacement from the Apple store
    Take care G

  • Zen Nano Plus - Dead after 20 minu

Just received my player this morning. Connected and transferred a couple of albums via windows explorer. Disconnected and had a listen, sound was ok. Reconnected to add some more music. Paste operation froze windows explorer, safely remove hardware button did nothing and the only option was a hard reset. Now player wont switch on at all, not even a logo screen and pc doesn't recognize it so cannot reflash the firmware. Most disappointing.

Thanks for the tips shellshock. I spent quite some time yesterday trying to bring the player back to life to no avail, so its now winging its way back to Amazon.
    Basically it went something like:
: 8am. Grab parcel from postman and unwrap excitedly
2: Plug player into spare usb port, my 64 bit OS recognised it straight away as a 'Zen Nano Plus' so no additional driver install necessary which is just as well because there doesn't seem to be one for 64 bit versions of Windows
3: Open windows explorer and copy two folders across to player as with any UMS device (Supertramp and Erik Satie no less)
4: Unplug player, have a listen for a few minutes and farmiliarise with the menu operations and manual
5: Reconnect player to PC, which again recognizes it correctly
6: Attempt to copy and paste a further folder of mp3's to the player using windows explorer at which point onimously the hourglass mouse cursor indicates work in progress without any sign of a progress bar appearing to indicate files in transit (the player does however display a data transfer in progress animation
7: After a couple of minutes ctl-alt-del clearly indicates windows explorer (and hence the data transfer operation) have stopped responding (my pc it should be noted has a respectable spec, was built last summer is not crash prone for no reason)
8: Bollocks says I, this is not quite going to plan. Forcing the process closed via task manager and attempting to use the 'safely remove hardware' function in the system tray locks the computer up totally forcing a hard reset
9: The Nano in the meantime has stopped displaying the data transfer animation so I unplug it from the PC and power it down thinking 'oh well, hardware is known to crash occassionally, i'll need to recopy the files after a reboot no doubt'. Hah, I should be so lucky.
0: Nano now refuses to start full stop. Not even a logo. Removing and replacing batteries minutes later as recommended has no effect, holding down the power button for over a minute has no effect, different batteries have no effect
: The PC now seems to think the dead Nano is a 'STMP3500' (i'm guessing this is the chipset used by the player) and furthermore wants drivers to match. Downloading latest drivers from Creative is useless as they are only 32 bit and will not work with Windows XP 64bit, so the PC is now having none of the dead Nano
2: Attemping to activate the emergency reset by attaching the Nano to a USB port (various ports tried) whilst holding down the power button for 20 seconds or so (several times) proves futile as all my PC now wants is drivers for a goddam 'STMP3500'!
3: Latest firmware from Creative does run ok but totally fails to find the player
4: 3pm. Player is unceremoniously re-wrapped with curses into its packaging and marched to the post office for despatch to Amazon's returns department for a refund
My guess is that the failed data transfer managed to wipe or corrupt the player firmware. I'm sure all computer users are used to system crashes now and again, but they certainly wouldn't expect to have to buy new hardware each time it happened. Creative R&D department should maybe revisit the way the Nano's OS is written and protected.
After all that i'm still searching for a decent mp3 player but can find none to match the spec of the Nano at the price. Reviews of cheaper alternati'ves indicate poor battery life and questionable sound quality. Iri'ver T30 doesn't support UMS so thats a no go.
All in all a pretty negati've experience. Perhaps I was just unlucky, maybe once the refund comes through I might even give the Nano another shot, especially as the price has just dropped again by about 3 quid on Amazon......

  • Zen Nano PLus dead after firmware upd

I wanted to update the firmware of my Zen Nano PLus, so I got the correct file off the creative site. I connected my mp3-player and executed the firmware update file. Everything went as it should do. It brought up a pop-up window of windows asking to search for new Hardware. I accidently closed it. Then the whole firmware updating process stopped. I closed the window of the updating process and tried to restart the firmware update file. I didn't work because the player wasn't even found by the computer. The bad thing about it is, that I cant do anything with my player since the computer cant even talk to it. I cant turn my player on/off: it is pretty much dead. No connection to computer status diagram appears, nothing. I tried the rescue tool of creti've, it didn't find the player either.
    Any Ideas what can help?
