Need help on viability of a project

Hi all
I'm looking for a profissional point of view for the project I'm developing
I need to create an Applet that uses a DLL from the server to communicate with a machine connected to the serial port, and there will be plenty of this Applets running at once at different locations.
I would appreciate any comment about the viability of this project.

Yes you'll do better with 512MB of GDDR3 memory (for graphic manipulation) but you won't notice a great deal of difference between 2.4 GHZ and 2.66GHZ in the CPU speed. Need Help with a Flash Web Project

Hello, everyone. I am trying to use Flash to make a two-step
system. I want the flash document to, first, allow a person to
upload multiple image files and then, second, for the flash
document be able to create a slideshow with the uploaded images and
fade in and out from each image until the slideshow is over. I want
it to be where the flash document creates its own slideshow with

The problem with the text not appearing at all has to do with you setting the alpha of the movieclip to 0%. Not within the movieclip, but the movieclip itself. The same for the xray graphic, except you have that as a graphic symbol rather than a movieclip. To have that play while inhabiting one frame you'll need to change it to a movieclip symbol.
To get the text to play after the blinds (just a minor critique, I'd speed up the blinds), you will want to add some code in the frame where you added the stop in the blinds animation. You will also need to assign instance names for the text movieclips in the properties panel, as well as place a stop(); in their first frames (inside).
Let's say you name them upperText and lowerText. Then the code you'd add at the end of the blinds animation (in the stop frame) would be...
_parent.upperText.play();
_parent.lowerText.play();
The "_parent" portion of that is used to target the timeline that is containing the item making the command, basically meaning it's the guy inside the blinds telling the guy outside the blinds to do something.
You'll probably want to add stops to the ends of the text animations as well.
If you want to have the first text trigger the second text, then you'd take that second line above and place it in the last frame of the first text animation instead of the blinds animation.
Note, on occasion, undeterminably, that code above doesn't work for some odd reason... the animation plays to the next frame and stops... so if you run into that, just put a play(); in the second frame to help push it along.
PS GotoandPlay would actually be gotoAndPlay, and for the code above you could substitute play(); with gotoAndPlay(2);

Need help loading DLL in labVIEW project

I have a DLL that was written in C# that I want to load it to my labVIEW project. I have never done this before, so I need help. I chose Connectivity-Call Library Function Node then loaded my DLL. After, under function name, I typed in the function name from the code. I don't know what to do with other like Parameters.
They don't let me attach dll file
Can someone explain how to set the parameters and etc?

Well, it seems that you really need to learn quite a bit about .NET (ActiveX is very similar!) first.
The constructor node in your code creates an object in your .NET CLR (Common Language Runtime). This object exposes properties and/or methods. Use Property Node(s) and Invoke Node(s) to access these. Usually, you get references to other objects which you can work this.
Remember the golden rule for ActiveX and .NET:
Close all references you created in your LabVIEW code on your own (using Close Reference)!

Need help in exporting my FCP project to work on my laptop

I'm taking a long trip and I'd like to export all that's needed to work on my FCP project from my PowerMac G5 to my Powerbook Pro. I could really use some advice on this.
1. It's most likely that all of my files will not fit on the Powerbook hard drive (half is devoted to Windows). I know there are issues with importing footage to a firewire drive, but what if my footage is already imported? Can I get a tiny firewire external drive and move all my video files to work with? Or will I still be at a risk of dropped frames or other problems? Can I even get a USB drive for this? WD makes a great tiny one. I've got a huge Maxtor firewire drive, but I need one that is portable and doesn't need external power. Any recommendations? Is this just a stupid question and there's no way this is possible?
2. Will I run into a problem of installing my Final Cut Studio on my Powerbook Pro since it's already installed on my PowerMac? I guess if I absolutely had to, I could uninstall FCP from my Powermac, then install it on my Powerbook, then uninstall it from my powerbook when i'm done with my trip, then reinstall it on my PowerMac. But it'd be much simpler if I could just install it on my Powerbook and leave the already installed version on my PowerMac alone.

First, do you mean Macbook Pro? Also what version of FCP are you running? If you have a Macbook Pro then you must have FCP 5.1 in order for it to run on your notebook.

You are correct in assuming that you need not put your media files on your system drive. Get a small Firewire drive that is bus powered, I recommend on from G-Technologies, maker of the G-Raid.

This depends on what version you are using. I believe that you can have 5.1 installed on both a desktop and notebook with one license. However, be sure to check the license that came with your software just to be sure. If you do not have 5.1 (and you don't have a MBP but instead a Powerbook (not Pro) then you will have to uninstall and reinstall.
Once you have these issues worked out it is a matter of transferring your project files to your new FW drive.

My name is Gordon and I'm posting here to see if I could possibly interview someone via email or over the phone for a training project I am doing for a course in Graduate School. I'm a first year Industrial and Organizational Psychology masters student attending San Francisco State University. The main purpose of this project is to help me get familiar with the entire process of developing, carrying out, and evaluating a technical training. I have chosen to create a training for iWork 09' because most of my class mates (myself included), have not had much experience with the program. My original idea was to tailor the training towards sales individuals, but I can modify that depending on who I'm able to interview (educators and other professionals).
The kind of person I'm looking to interview must either train others on how to use iWork and/or uses iWork themselves for work on a regular basis. It would be best if you are familiar with all 3 programs, but it is fine if you only use one or two of the programs. The entire interview will take no longer than 30 minutes, and if it's over email it'll just take two messages (1 for the original set of questions and a follow up email asking to expand on some of the original answers). As a part of my professor's requirement I will also need your contact information including: name, title, affiliation, address, phone number and email address. I don't believe my professor will actually be contacting you to verify that I haven't cheated on the assignment though.
Some sample questions include:
1. In your line of work, what are some of your major responsibilities?
2. How does iWork help you accomplish some of your work tasks/projects?
3. If you've received formal training on iWork, what was the environment like, and what parts of the training did you find enjoyable and helpful; what parts did you dislike?

Need help to set up multilingual project

Hi guys,
i'm relatively new to RH and i have a help system to create in 3 languages (English, French, German) and in many flavors. This is for an online application with multiple user roles. The trick is that the help system is supposed to follow the hirearchy of privileges, that is, a low-level user should not see the pages covering the system settings or the admin dashboard. When a user signs in, the app will load a help file based on the respective user roles and locale settings.
My dev guy is going to provide me with an xml file that contains the existing user roles and privileges, and the outputs should be generated accordingly. The SSL of our choice is responsive HTML5. I'm guessing this is possible to do in RH11, tho frankly i have no idea where to start. What would be the proper approach to set up this project? I've created less convoluted user guides earlier and i was happy with the results but am stuck with this one.
Any help is much appreciated.

Is it important that some users do not see the additional information? In most apps seeing the information would not enable them to carry out the procedures as permissions should have been set up to prevent that.
You could generate one output with books in the TOC for each user type or even create Content Categories. The latter would open the help with the default category and users could then choose their category. The content would then be limited to their topics. That does not and cannot stop them viewing the other categories.
Your way requires different outputs and the developers then have to figure out who is accessing the help and call the appropriate version.

Need help asap thanks starting up project in idvd

after finishing up the project on idvd and burning for the first time, I went back to do some re editing to fix up the mistakes that I saw in dvd....it turns up totally black on my project and on top of the title it still says Loading project: johndoe.dvdproj and I cant seem to get it work...the map shows all the tree lines of my dvd project perfectly fine, but the preview button or motion button or even the screen itself is totally black...can someone help me with that

You could try two things:
Repair permissions---You repair permissions using Disk Utility. It's in the Utilities folder in your Applications folder. Select your startup drive (you probably only have one drive), click on the First Aid tab. Click Repair Disk Permissions. I do this weekly and after each software install/OS update.

Need help locating duplicate files and projects. Space is running out

Ok, over time I have made duplicate files and projects on both my local and external hard drives. What I am looking for is a program that I can run on to Identify duplicate files and such so that I can decide what to delete to free up much needed space.
Please suggest anything you can think of, I am running out of room.

Need help moving a PPro CS6 Project from Mac to Windows

I have a complete project on a Mac and want to finish it out on a new Windows system we just purchased. CS6 on both.
I tried to open the project on the Windows machine and as PPro tries to link up media I get a message: Cannot Link Media. The selected file cannot be linked becaue its type (audio) does not match the original file's ty pe (audio and video).
The file it is trying to link is a Quicktime file. There are several in the project.
I imagine this is a simple issue. I'm hoping its a simple and solveable one. We are planning to move our work to this new Windows machine but have a lot of Mac projects we hope to be able to update on the new machine.

Thanks for the feedback. Helpful info as we move forward. We're starting to get the hang of what we've ventured into with the Windows machine. Great performance. Some foibles like the issues with codecs, but seems they may be at least a bit less of a problem than they first appeared. One issue is our Adobe font library for our Macs. Most of the fonts don't port over to the Windows side and that's a bit of a problem for an ad agency that tries to keep graphic /font consistency between our print and our video projects.

there are many ways of session handling.... passing as request param, also using hidden fields, else th URL rewritting...
but all these are not efficient to be passed along if too many pages are using the same session objects. i believe u can also try passing it into an XML file and parse it out whenever needed. but i dont think thats feasible enough.

I need help to deliver the finished project to our client.

I can't deliver the finish project to our client and could use some help. Here is the problem:
I edited a 30 minute show with Premiere 1.5 (and Aspect 3.4, 1440 X 1080P) with many blue and green screen keying effects. Whenever I try to export to DVD in high resolution out put I get a memory error half way through the rendering. As a result I have had to export using the low resolution option which looks awful.
Finally, after having tried to add memory sticks (I now have 4 giga) and reinstalling Premiere on a new drive and even turning off the double monitor system I still get the memory error. My gut feeling is that this is due to the fact I shot the show in 25P and Premiere has problems converting 25P to regular Pal.
Anyways, finally to solve the problem, I installed Premiere CS3 and Aspect 5.4 and tried opening the project. Here I ran into two problems: (1) The green screen keying effect is not recognized by CS3 (as only Premiere 1.5 does both blue and green screen Keying) and (2) there is no direct way to export to DVD.
So I have a client who wants the finished product in quality resolution on a DVD, and I can't provide it. This is really annoying.
If anybody can help me out on how to get the show out on DVD with a 2 pass high quality export it would be very helpful. Thank you.

1. If you insist on keying in Pr; use the color or chroma key. If you want a quality product use a compositor like AE to do your keying.

Stuttering flv playback issue- need help asap

We need help asap. Have a project is due to deliver today (5/14).
We have a video to go on a dvd-rom, live action with Motion Graphics behind.
When output is done thru Projector the Motion Graphics stutter as they scroll.
Here is more technical info:
Stuttering flv playback issue:
Prores 422 timeline 29.97fps 1280x720 output from fcp using current settings.
Mov file is approx 7gb, plays relatively smooth on a mac pro with no raid.
Frame by frame analysis shows all frames are present with no jumps tears or skips.
Tried several output paths, programs and settings to create a smooth flv file to no avail.
We adjusted data rates from 2k, 3.5k, 4k and 8k, no luck
We adjusted keyframe rates from low to all frames, no luck.
We tried cs3 flash encoder, cs5 media encoder, squeeze ect, same results.
Playback in the flash projector seems to choke slightly no matter what we do.
Have also posted in the Director Forum.
Any help much appreciated!

Here are a few ideas off the top of my head:
Try playing the file using a different xtra, sometimes different ones will work better. If you have Director 11.5, there is a native flv playback xtra.
You can build a player easily in Flash using the flvPlayback component, then bring that into Director as a swf.
Once you have the video in Director, try making the member Direct To Stage (DTS). If it is already DTS, try making it not DTS.
Make sure the video is not transparent, and nothing in Director overlaps the video... in fact, when the video is playing, nothing should be moving at all, and try to keep the amount of code that is running to a minimum.
Try lowering your video's data rate further or try using a different codec.
Using VBR (Variable Bit Rate) compression often makes the video appear to play smoother.
Try compressing the flv with different software. FFMpeg, for example, is free and does a very good job, often better than the Flash Video Encoder that comes with Flash/Creative Suite.

In fact I wanted to use my former project just to see how I managed it. But it is "damaged" when I want ti open it after the RH update. Now I have RH10 and not RH8 anymore.
I need help on creating a multilingual project with RH10.
In the RH Help document, the procedure is :
Apply French language project settings by selecting French Language.
2 Open an English topic, create a topic for the French language, and translate the content, including the topic title from
English to French. (Do not translate topic filenames.)
3 Create French tables of contents, indexes, and glossaries.
4 Create a conditional build tag, such as FrenchContent.
5 Apply the FrenchContent conditional build tag to French content and topics.
6 Generate output for the French language.
When I create topics with same names, I have a Error message "The file already exists". May be it will work in different folders.
I'll try and let you know.

I need help on using Java.My project is mainly manipulating WAV sound files with Java. There is some problem.I hope you all can help me. I couldn't find much info about Java in sound manipulating,sample coding or something like that. I need to find the command to
1) Find each sampling point value in a sound file.
2) Find the number of sampling point and the average value of the all the sampling point.
3) Record the sound file in a different bit rate format.
I dont know how to go about it.I really hope you all can help me, or direct me to any resources that may help me. Your help is very much appreciated.
