NTSC camera using in PAL region via projector

Hi,
let me start off for apologising that this is probably a stupid question, but cant seem to get my head around it!!
ok, so i want to get a camcorder to use in the UK (prob hf10) and its almost half the price in the USA (depending on xchange rate! **** credit crunch!).
so...when i record video, i know it will be ok to import and export into FCE as NTSC. but when i show it, it will be via macbook into a projector. will this work? and can projectors display both ntsc and PAL material?
thanks for all your help!

The latter is the problem. As I hit the capture button, the tape in the camera rolls, I can see (and hear) the PAL movie in the view finder and on the LCD screen of the camera, but the capture window stays black (though the frame counter works) and nothing is captured. (This is true whether I use an NTSC or PAL project set-up in Premiere). Again, I know there is a solution. I have done it before but forgot the necessary set-up steps in Premiere.

  • Captures PAL video with NTSC camera using Premiere Pro 1.5

I try to capture (download) PAL videos from a Sony DCR-HC40 NTSC camera using Premiere Pro 1.5. I can see the movie (on the camera) but none is captured in Premiere. I did it before and it worked, but I forgot the appropriate setting within the Premiere program.
I would appreciate any suggestions. Muenkey

  • PAL tapes in NTSC cameras

I have an NTSC DV camera and a PAL formatted DV tape I'd like to import into either Quicktime or iMovie. Although the camera can't handle PAL, I'm assuming that DV data is just data, and if it's going via a Firewire cable there must be some way to just import the PAL data straight into a PAL DV file. Anybody know any way that this can be done?
    Help appreciated!

Nattress Standards Conversion would be one proven technique.
Maybe MPEG Streamclip. Seems like I used this a few years ago to go from PAL → NTSC.

  • How to create a PAL DVD from a NTSC camera

    Hi,
I have a Canon HF10 which I have bought in the US, so it is a NTSC camera. I am living in Europe, so I would like to create a PAL dvd from the footage which I have recorded.
The footage have been shot using 1080/24p and I have imported it into iMovie. Do I need to do something extra or can I just export it and burn an dvd from iDVD?
    Best regards
    Henrik.

no surprise.. the ccd of you device is read-out 24p, but the camera records upsampled in 30i ..
24p on consumer devices is mostly marketing blabla..
in Europe, a 25p more is more interesting..
you have a NTSC device. full stop.
in iDVD, set prefs to 25fps (=PAL), relaunch iDVD, import iM project..
so, you record in 24p, got 30i on tape, anc convert again in 25i (=PAL) ... happy landing..
aside: better results in standards-conversion with free app JES Deinterlacer ...

  • IDVD 5 - Burning a NTSC version using PAL content

HELP! I want to create an NTSC DVD in IDVD 5.
I selected NTSC in the preferences also under Project Info. I then imported Quicktime files and burnt a disc -
The problem is I'm in a PAL region and when I play it on my DVD player - it plays! whereas it shouldn't if it was an NTSC version.
Is this happening because the quicktimes were originally created in a PAL format?

That is a different issue, namely Region.
The USA is Region 1, Europe is region 2 (we won't bother with the rest but you can read all about it here):
    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/DVDregioncode
If you bought the DVD player in the UK it will have been set up for Region 2. Partly for the reasons stated in that Wikipedia article, many DVD publishers have a policy of differential pricing, for example DVDs in the UK cost twice as much as much as in the US, so they don't like you buying cheaper DVDs via Amazon US for the UK! But it does go some way towards explaining why so many brand-new DVDs offered for sale on eBay UK are so cheap: they can be (and are usually clearly identified as such) NTSC DVDs from the USA!
Many retailers will happily convert your DVD player to be multi-region, or rather non-region (quite legal in Europe). However, you can quite easily do this yourself. Contrary to popular belief this does not require re-soldering the innards, or changing a chip, but merely entering a code number via your remote control.
This site will tell you what the code is for your DVD player:
    http://www.dvd.reviewer.co.uk/info/multiregion/
It lists virtually all DVD players ever made and the codes they require. They call the code a 'multi-region hack' but don't worry about it!
By the way, do NOT attempt to play DVDs on your Mac from a different region than it was originally set up for. There are no 'hacks' to change the region on a Mac. You do get five chances to change the region of your Mac, but after that the last one selected will stick for all eternity. The code is sealed into the firmware of the Superdrive.
So, we are talking marketing (and pricing) regions more than whether it is NTSC or PAL or one of the other formats. Once your DVD player is set up as multi-region it probably won't give a monkeys what format the DVD is!

  • Importing ntsc video through a pal camera

    hello
this summer ive been into the usa and taped some of the vacation with a camera there (ntsc).
back at home (in sweden) ive got a pal camera. the camera can play the tapes without any problem (it recognises that its ntsc) in the player mode, but when i try to capture them into premiere it just is black or there are weird colors everywhere.

Check your owner's manual to see if your camcorder supports sending NTSC data via the firewire port. It is possible your camcorder can play the NTSC footage, but cannot transfer it via firewire.
    Cheers

  • Using Mini DisplayPort to VGA Adapter to connect Macbook Pro (2009) for a presentation via projector.

When I connect my Macbook Pro (2009 model) using a Mini DisplayPort to VGA adapter to display a presentation via projector, only the top-left portion of what is displayed on my Macbook Pro's screen is displayed on the projector, as though I zoomed in on that portion of my screen. The projector is on and the adapter and the cable that connects the adapter to the projector machine is correctly connected. Any suggestions on how to fix this problem?

    Hi glraczon.support,
It sounds like the external display you are using (projector) operates at a smaller resolution than your MacBook Pro. You may want to configure the display preferences in System Preferences for the external projector.
Here is an article that may help you with that process:

  • I have Video camera movies that are HD format.. I am doing editing work on them using Final Cut Pro, but using DV PAL format for the projects I am editing. When I then tried to copy my work done in FCP Project that's originally DV PAL , into a new FCP Pro

I have Video camera movies that are HD format.. I am doing editing work on them using Final Cut Pro, but using DV PAL format for the projects I am editing. When I then tried to copy my work done in FCP Project that's originally DV PAL , into a new FCP Project that is HD, and tried reconnect media with original HD movies (video), the sequence project got distorted for all the text, shapes used and all.. everything changed its orientation and scale.. Is there a way by which I can preserve my work done on DV PAL and switch it preserving its proportions, scale and orientation, but on a HD project sequence?? Appreciate your help and advice..

Yes.  A couple of ways that might work.
    First Way
What you need to do is load one of your hd clips in the viewer and edit into a new HD sequence.  Does it display correctionly?
OK, select the clip in the hd timeline and copy (command-c).  Now go to the HD sequence with the material that's distorted.  Select all (command-a) and paste attributes (option-v) and choose basic motion and distort.  That should maek things work.  What won't work is anything that you've adjusted as far as basic motion or distort in your PAL sequence.  That I'm pretty sure you'll have to redo.
    Second Way.
Choose your original PAL sequence and do a Media Manage changing the sequence preset to the appropriate HD paramenters with the media offline.  You then should be able to reconnect these clips with your original HD media.

  • OK, the videoformat may be changed (PAL, NTSC) by plugin a specified cable, but how can  I force to have PAL-format instead of NTSC to be send to iMovie via the USB-cable?

OK, the videoformat may be changed (PAL, NTSC) by plugin a specified cable to be connected the iPhone to the TV, but how can  I force to have PAL-format instead of NTSC to be send to iMovie via the USB-cable? Al this transcoding afterwards takes a lot to much time. Is there a solution before sending the clips?

Well, thanks a lot.  iMovie '11 is similar, but not identical and unfortunately I don't seem to find any "Frame Rate Pop-Up menu" when I generate a new Project. Do not find an "Aspect Ratio Pop-Up" either. Also the help does not speak of this options.  I just have to choose a Theme and that's it. Also the "Settings" Menu for the Film does not help.
I also checked the general settings for iMovie:
So I would dare say, there is actually no possibility anymore, to set the output format. And also when I create the output file, there is nothing more than a short list of resolutions.
I do not understand why all options were taken away. I admit, I am a little disappointed.

  • Can I shoot with a NTSC camera and convert to a PAL dvd through Final Cut

i am shooting a wedding for someone in Scotland that will be getting married in the States, and she wants a PAL dvd. Can i shoot the video with my NTSC camera (HVX 200) and with Final Cut convert it to PAL? If not can it be done someway?

the prefered way is to standards convert the video and import it into a PAL sequence
    http://www.nattress.com/Products/standardsconversion/standardsconversion.htm
an alternative is to produce an NTSC DVD; it will playback on a computer; Mac or PC, it might play back on the users hardware DVD player/ TV combination but it might not, no guaranteed there.
    Best bet is option 1

  • PAL Videos with NTSC camera

I have problems capturing PAL video played with a Sony DCR-HC40 NTSC camera. Though I can follow the movie at the camera level, nothing in captured in the Premiere Pro 1.5 program. What is the correct setting in Premiere?

I am with Steve, on not knowing how one might be able to do what you want, other than converting from NTSC to PAL. However, with PrPro 1.5, I would post to the PrPro CS4 and Earlier Forum, as many folk there do both PAL and NTSC work, and might have some nifty tips for you.
    Good luck,

  • NTSC DVD doc for PAL Europe. Updated Advice on IF I need to convert & HOW?

I have read with interests several posts on playing NTSC, all region DVDs on PAL DVD players. I hope someone may have some updated advice for my situation. In brief, I would like to give out DVD copies to festival goers in France where my Doc will play in April. I thought to produce DVD-Rs on my Mac.
With a film acquired documentary(24fps), transferred to NTSC video (29.97 fps) sitting as both Avid and Final Cut Pro Media on my trusty G-4, I am now ready to export a Quicktime Movie and then encode to MPEG-2, and "author" a DVD in DVD Studio Pro.
Will an NTSC DVD now play on most DVD players and Televisions in Europe? (A contact stated their "players are bi-standard NTSC and PAL", but I'm still uncertain this means my DVD-R or replicated NTSC will play).
Should I make a PAL DVD?
IF I try a PAL DVD is it really as simple as exporting a Same as Source Quick Time Movie from Avid or FCP then using the QT MPEG-2 exporter and selecting "PAL" from within Quick Time? Then I just create a new Pal project in DVD Studio Pro?...... Even if it is that simple to create PAL from QT and my media, I don't see how my 24 fps/29.97 fps doc now magically becomes PAL 25 fps / 59.97 fps just because I converted it to MPEG-2.
Do you all recommend I try to make my own PAL DVD or should I just take my already authored NTSC DVDs and cross my fingers.
I really appreciate any newer thoughts on this topic. I'm an old pre-digital film guy so be kind.
    Thanks, Rob
    G-4 Quicksilver   Mac OS X (10.3.9)

Yes, although the vast majority of newer European DVD players and TVs have no problems with NTSC DVDs, the only way to be sure (well, almost sure) is to burn a PAL DVD. You can't legislate for the fact, however, that not all DVD players can play all DVD-R authored disks, but that's a seperate problem!
I generally use After Effects for quick and dirty (but good quality) standards conversion. Whatever you do don't just try exporting your project via Quicktime using a PAL as this will only change the colour space and not the frame rate or frame size. If you use QT to change frame rate it will simply repeat every fifth frame to get to 30fps which will give you jerky motion.
Here's a step by step guide to doing the conversion in Compressor 2, using "optical flow" to interpolate to get the extra frames :

  • Shooting HD CAM Offline DV PAL

I'm about to offline a job shooting on HD CAM and want to edit DV PAL for offlin e purposes
I've looked into using a Sony J-H3 HDCAM with optional firewire port.
The spec sheet tells me it's got a downconverter built in.
But just seeing if anyone has used this?
    Matt

yes it works provided the option is installed on the deck. be aware that it behaves like dv thus only 2 channels of audio ch1 and ch2. Never used it in pal only NTSC so have no pal experience with it

  • Deleting photos from Sony Action Cam using desktop computer

Hi Simple question and there will hopefully be a simple answer: How to delete selected photos from my Action Camera using a desktop computer? This is obviously one of the most basic things I should be able to do without having to post a question. Now I can only delete photos via smartphone or live-view which is slow and annoying.  ThanksS

    Hi Upeer,
    Welcome to the Sony Community!
To delete photos or videos using a computer, make sure that the camera is securely connected and USB shows on the screen of the camera. Open Computer/My Computer. You should be able to see Removable Drive. Open Removable Drive and then open DCIM folder. Inside the DCIM folder, it will contain another folder, just open it and you will see all the photos and videos recorded in the memory card of the camera. You can highlight the files you want to remove using the delete button on the keyboard.
For further assistance regarding your concern, we kindly recommend visiting our Sony Global Web site for information on contacting the Sony Support Center in your region at http://www.sony.net/SonyInfo/Support/.

  • Can I use a secondary display via wireless router?

I plugged a secondary display into my wireless router (Belkin).  The display has several USB ports on it.  I filled those USB ports with:
    External hard drive (Toshiba)
    Printer (Epson)
    Mouse (??)
    Keyboard (Dell)
The iMac found the hard drive, printer, mouse and keyboard instantly.  I can access the hard drive perfectly from the iMac.  The printer works perfectly from the iMac.  The mouse also works perfectly from the iMac.  The keyboard doesn't work yet, but at least it shows up on the iMac as an option.
Oddly the display itself does not seem to be recognized by the iMac.  Any idea how to use the secondary disply via the wifi connection?  The secondary monitor is a Dell.
    Kris in NY

Well there is an "Air Display" app that will let one iMac use another device as a WIRELESS secondary display monitor  (http://avatron.com/apps/air-display).  What I keep finding is that the secondary display device seems to be a complete device (hard drive, flash memory, software, etc).
So an iMac CAN use another iMac or iPod or PC or Tablet as a secondary, wireless display device.
What I can't figure out is if a stand alone display device can be activated in the exact same manner.  I have Air Display installed on my iMac, but there is no way to install similar hardware on a simple peripheral.
The secondary display has its own power source and is powered on.  As I said the secondary display has several peripherals connected to it that can all be used wirelessly by the iMac.  Only the display device between the wifi router and the peripherals cannot be detected.  All the other hardware came on-line instantly.
