Oracle Version - High Availability Installation

Hi,
We are shortly to install SAP on Windows2008/Oracle.
The DEV and TEST systems are to be installed as stand alone Centralised installations.
The LIVE system is to be installed as a High Availability system, clustered over two hosts.
I have questions surrounding the Oracle Editions:
Looking at the differences between the two Oracle editions in respect to our requirements, Enterprise supports fail-over, whereas Standard does not.
So,
Does an SAP high availability installation require Oracle Enterprise Edition to be installed or can it be Oracle Standard Edition?
Does SAP's High Availability installation functionality handle the complete failover, regardless of Oracle Version?
Thanks in advance for your assistance.
Chris

> Does an SAP high availability installation require Oracle Enterprise Edition to be installed or can it be Oracle Standard Edition?
SAP systems (also for test and QA)  always require Oracle Enterprise edition. You may get it technically to work with the standard edition but it's not supported:
Note 105047 - Support for Oracle functions in the SAP environment
<...>
      56. Standard Edition
    * SAP products always require the Oracle Enterprise edition, using Oracle Standard edition is not permitted.

  • SAP NetWeaver 7.30 High-Availability installation without MSCS

    Hi all,
Do we have any option to install SAP NetWeaver 7.30 High-Availability System on the third-party cluster solution, except for MS Cluster Service?
I tried to install the first cluster node without MSCS configuration, however, sapinst.exe checks whether we already set up MSCS on this node, then installer aborted.
I'd like to know the way to disable this checks. (Or, way to mimic the installer as if MSCS cluster configuration was done.)
    If unavailable, I have to install MSCS first, and SAP NetWeaver, then also have to uninstall MSCS instead of out cluster software;
It seems to me no sense.
    Best regards,

    Hi Peter,
    Thanks for your quick response.
It is disappointed for me that HA Installation is tightly combined with MSCS.
Do we have a way to migrate from other installation scenario to High-Availability?
For example, once we install ASCS instance as distributed system, then migrate
it for High-Availability usage, leveraged by profile updates and so on?
I'm not sure how High-Availability installation is different from other installation
scenario except for installation path and hostname to be used for connection.
    Best regards,

  • Oracle Linux High Availability (HA)

We would like to employ High Availability (HA) on Oracle Linux in order to provide solid service. How can we achieve this? What software do we need to install and where to start? We want HA not only for middle tier but all kind of software running on the server.

If you cannot make a decision based on technical aspects, perhaps it will help to make a decision considering other aspects:
    - what product or service are you trying to provide?
    - what is your technical background?
    - what is your budget?
    - what are you planning for the future?
I have not seen any useful general review or comparison of cluster products and there are several major players on the market. The situation is obviously complex and the right product depends on the product or service you are planning to provide. If you are ever thinking about using an Oracle database product, it would be foolish not to go for Oracle Clusterware.
I think you should also very much consider virtualization and HA. Again, if you are planning to provide Oracle services, Oracle VM Server for x86 might be your best option, which is also a free product and designed for a production environment.
In my humble opinion, Oracle products are generally complex and not necessarily the most admin or user-friendly solutions, but you will find a lot of support and as far as I'm aware, no other product will provide you a better cost of ownership than Oracle Linux and Oracle VM Server, which is zero.

  • High Availability Installation - Help

    Hi All,
we are planning for high availabitlity installation for ECC 6.0/oracle 10.2 on HP-UX,
i understand that we need atleast two identical physical machines of HP-UX,
Please help me in below things :
    1. link or any document for HA installation (apart from normal inst guide)
    2. i have installed ECC 6.0 o HP-UX for dev/qa will the file system remain same for
HA installation also or what changes required ?
    3. Any hints on installation procedure.
we have only abap engine involved.
    Thanking you in advance
All the valid replied will be appreciated and rewarded.
    Regards
    Naren

    Hello,
Here is the link for HA installation : https://websmp209.sap-ag.de/instguides --> SAP NetWeaver --> Installation --> Oracle  --> HP-UX --> ABAP, here you can find everything on HA.
You have to configure your filesystem in cental location, you can not use the same file system as DEV/QA becuase you have not configured the same in HA.
OS level HA configuration will be done by UNIX admin and after that you have to install SAP as per normal procedure only few changes which you can findout if you go thourgh the installation guide.
    Cheers,

  • FIM Portal in High Availability Installation

    Hi Team,
I am working on something and trying to perform HA in FIM. Below is my current system:
    1) server A and B for SQL DB.
    2) Server C and D for FIM Portal.
    3) Server E for FIM Service.
    4) Server F For FIMSync Service.
    Steps I have performed:
Installed SQL on server A & B for Every Required DB and done Clustering.
    1) Installed FIMSync service on server F.
    2) Installed FIM Service on Server E.
    3) Installed SharePoint 2010 Foundation server Farm Installation on Server C.
    4) Installed FIM Portal on Server C.
    5) Installed SharePoint 2010 Foundation with same Farm on Server D and FIM Portal as well.
But when I try to access FIM Portal with Server D's Host name then it is showing error "Service Unavailable".
    Please help !!!!!
    Thanks~ Giriraj Singh Bhamu

Make sure you have correct SPNs registered and that you have provided correct address of FIMService for FIMPortal. Remember also about delegation needed to be configured.
    SPNs to be registered:
    FIMService/<ServerE> Domain\FIMserviceAccount
    HTTP/<ServerC> Domain\FIMWebAppAccount
Delegation: FimServiceAccount to FIMserviceAccount and FIMWebAppPoolAccount to FIMServiceAccount.
"Service Unavailable" is telling you nothing. Examine Eventvwr.
By the way - this installation hardly seems to be HA - what if your Server E would fail? There is no other server that has FIMService installed. The same for ServerF
If you found my post helpful, please give it a Helpful vote. If it answered your question, remember to mark it as an Answer.

  • GG - Clusterware High Availability (HA)

    Hello All,
I'm trying to implement GoldenGate High Availability as described below and am pretty desperate to get it to work:
WHITE PAPER : Oracle GoldenGate Best Practices: Oracle GoldenGate high availability using Oracle Clusterware
Oracle GoldenGate Best Practices: Oracle GoldenGate high availability using Oracle Clusterware [ID 1313703.1]
The problem is in the 'start' routine. The MGR.pcm gets deleted before it checks if its up and running. Failover and normal start never works
    --> crsctl start resource ggateapp
--> failed to start on node 1
---> failed to start on node 2
I've opened a thread with Clusterware as per below but thought it would be good to ask in this forum as well:
    Clusterware ActionScript
I was just wondering if anybody as successfully integrated Golden Gate HA. I need it for a production implementation but also would be nice to have proof of concept.
    Here is the routine itself:
    case $1 in
    'start')
    #Updated by Sourav (02/10/201
    # During failover if the “mgr.pcm” file is not deleted at the node crash
    # then Oracle clusterware won’t start the manager on the new node assuming the
    # manager process is still running on the failed node. To get around this issue
    # we will delete the “mgr.prm” file before starting up the manager on the new
    # node. We will also delete the other process files with pc* extension and to
    # avoid any file locking issue we will first backup the checkpoint files and then
    # delete them from the dirchk directory. After that we will restore the checkpoint
    # files from  backup to the original location (dirchk directory).
log "removing *.pc* files from dirpcs directory..."
            rm -f $GGS_HOME/dirpcs/*.pc*

              rm -r $GGS_HOME/dirchk/tmp
            log "starting manager"
            call_ggsci 'start manager'
#there is a small delay between issuing the start manager command
#and the process being spawned on the OS . wait before checking
            log "sleeping for start_delay_secs"
            sleep ${start_delay_secs}
#check whether manager is running and exit accordingly
            check_process
;;Thanks in advance for any asssitance. I've been at this for several weeks and still cannot get it to work correctly.
    Thanks

    Hi Krish,
    Answers to some questions.
    1. You can use JCMON tool to check the Java services are up after the switchover to any node ( either passive or active)
For ABAP, you can just try to login and check if the services are up.
    2.  F5 - BIG IP Load Balancer is used to balance the load if you have multiple application servers i.e additional dialog instances. You need to refer F5 load balancer documents for the same.
    3.  End to End process test plan might change from client to client. So this should be drafted in conjunction with client and developers.
    4. VMWARE and WINDOWS - Not worked extensively on these platforms. So no comments on this
Let me know if you need more information.
    Cheers...,

  • ASM Instance high availability.

what woululd be the best practice to keep the ASM instance high available,
Right now i have 3 dbs running on one ASM instance, i am wondering if this ASM instance has problem all the 3 dbs will be down....

Have you looked at the Oracle® Database High Availability Best Practices Guide?
    http://download-east.oracle.com/docs/cd/B19306_01/server.102/b25159/toc.htm
Other areas to look would be clustering, either using Oracle clustering or clustering from another vendor such as Veritas or PollyServ.

  • Configure OAS with dataguard for high availibility

    Hi,
We use oracle application server to connect to 10g database. This prod db has a physical standby db. I am trying to do a failover test where I make the physical standby as primary and connect to that db from our application.
I change the dads.conf file to point to the physical db. but I get ORA-01033: ORACLE initialization or shutdown in progress Error-Code:1033 Error TimeStamp:Fri, 8 May 2009 21:57:55 GMT
but this physical db is up & open and in read write stage.
The db name is prod and prod_stby. is this because of the different names ??

    Hello,
I think you need to keep the infrastructure database names the same. Have you considered using the failover capabilities within 10gAS for your application servers? This is different from
Data Guard standby database option. Here is a good Metalink note on how to setup and configure 10g Application Server failover:

  • INSTALLATION ON HIGH AVAILABILITY USING WEBLOGIC SERVER

    Hi All ,
IHAC where i am planning to propose the following architecture and I did not find much information on the OTN documentation
How to configure the BI Publisher for High Availability using Oracle Weblogic Server. I have gone thorugh the following document on OTN.
    http://www.oracle.com/technology/products/xml-publisher/docs/BIP_HA.pdf
    1) Can the BI Publisher be installed on a weblogic cluster having two nodes. I did not find any specific information on this in the BI publisher documents other than the link I mentioned above. Do we have any Enterprise Deployment guide for standalone BI Publisher ?
    2) What is the best practice to implement the High Availability of BI Publisher on weblogic server.
    Other info,
As mentioned in the above link I am planning to use the BIPublisher ultra scalable architecture.
Where the Load Balancer is HW load balancer and Internal load balancer is managed using the Apache configuration and Oracle XMLDB11.1.0.7 is used as the shared repository.
    regards,
    Pierre .

    Hi
You have to have a shared drive for CI,SCS abd DB on the shared drive something like SAN.
You will have HACMP the IBM Cluster SW shall be configured and installed properly.
You may need support from the AIX engineer to configure it.
DB and CI installation will be done by Basis normally.
Yes ,there is arequirement to install and db and OS Filesystems on shared drive.
For further information ,you can look for inst guide at service.sap.com/instguides
    Hope it helps.

  • Oracle Berkeley DB Java Edition High Availability (White Paper)

    Hi all,
I've just read Oracle Berkeley DB Java Edition High Availability White Paper
    http://www.oracle.com/technetwork/database/berkeleydb/berkeleydb-je-ha-whitepaper-132079.pdf
In section "Time Consistency Policy" (Page 18) it is written:
"Setting a lag period that is too small, given the load and available hardware resources, could result in
frequent timeout exceptions and reduce a replica's availability for read operations. It could also increase
the latency associated with read requests, as the replica makes the read transaction wait so that it can
catch up in the replication stream."
Can you tell me why those read operations will not be taken by the master ?
Why will we have frequent timeout ?
Why should read transaction wait instead of being redirect to the master ?
Why should it reduce replica's availability for read operations ?
    Thanks

Please post this question on the Berkeley DB Java Edition (BDB JE) forum Berkeley DB Java Edition. This is the Berkeley DB Core (BDB) forum.

  • Migrating Dimension Server from local installation to High Availability

    Hi Team,
When Hyperion was installed on the client site (11.1.2.3), there was no requirement for EPMA to become highly available.
Now that has become a requirement to make it highly available in the event that one of the virtual machine is unreachable.
In the event that a server becomes unavailable, it is acceptable for a manual failover procedure to be done.
What steps can be taken to prepare for such an event?
    Possible outcome:
Configure another dimension server on the second Virtual machine and leave it manually switched off.
Modify the IIS path to point to a clustered location accessible by both machines.
In the event of a failover, manually bring up the dimension server on the other machine.
This is yet to be implemented successfully.

    Remote Desktop/Preferences/Task Server
Add the FQDN or I.P address of your server in this pane on your book(basically your pointing your book to your installed software on the other machine). Setup your server with the installs you want it to make, and administer it via your book (or any machines with another unlimited ARD) IF you want report generation, you would schedule the clients to send the info to the server. A task server can only do 2 things, install packages or change client settings, thats it.
