Photoshop CS4 won't launch

I'm getting this error message "Could not open scratch file because the disk is not available."
The disk is mounted and on the desktop. All I did was go into photoshop CS4 and add another scratch area which is one of the Hard drives mounted on the desk top. I'm running the latest Leopard 10.5.7 my Mac is Dual-Core Intel with 9GB ram, The Hard drive I have Photoshop on is a new 1TB Seagate and a similar one using for the other scratch disk. I had just installed this new HD formatted it OK and Carbon copy cloned every thing from my back Up. I was running Photoshop for a while then I realized I wanted to add another scratch disk area (or disk). I quit Photoshop after I made the change and tryed to open it when I got the error.

Oy!
Why the heck did you do that, James?
I said highlight the icon of the bloody HARD DRIVE you want to designate as a scratch drive; not the darned Photoshop application icon!
CHECK the "Ignore ownership on this volume" box.

So what???  If you want to do editing on another drive you can still launch the one and only copy that will work on your bloody machine, namely the one installed and activated on your startup drive.
Any other copies of Photoshop you have installed on different drives attached to your computer WILL NOT BE ACTIVATED, they won't even launch, they won't work at all!  However, they will confuse the hell out of the working copy of Photoshop.
When you edit video you can just boot off the same startup drive.  Who led you on that totally screwed path?  Had you ever used a Mac before?  You have to learn Mac 101.
You desperately need to get this book [CLICK HERE] and study it carefully.

  • Photoshop CS4 won't launch....Why is it freezing...now?

Using Design Premium CS4.....in my Program file  folder, there are two PS programs listed, this just started today..I try to open either version they hang forever. I have restored PSx64 to an earlier (because it showed todays date under modified) versit didn't help. The restore option was not available in the other PS file. I have tried to update via Adobe...that site tells me there is a JAVA issue, which there isn't I checked. I was able to eventually download the UPDATE file from Adobe, but I am now afraid to open the file for fear of making an already screwed up situation worse! I'm stuck! How odd that this did not start until after I put itunes on my computer....PHOTOSHOP is my life...PLEASE help...Thanks in advance for any and all help...Ingrid

Post the actual error messages you getting tha actual issue. Also reset you Photoshop Preferences.

  • Photoshop CS4 won't launch because scratch disc missing?

How do I resolve this without re-installing?

    Try trashing the Photoshop preferences
Restore all preferences to default settings
    Do one of the following:
Press and hold Alt+Control+Shift (Windows) or Option+Command+Shift (Mac OS) as you start Photoshop. You are prompted to delete the current settings.
(Mac OS only) Open the Preferences folder in the Library folder, and drag the Adobe Photoshop CS Settings folder to the Trash.New Preferences files are created the next time you start Photoshop.

  • Photoshop CS4 will not launch after installing Yosemite.

Photoshop CS4 will not launch after installing Yosemite. All the other CS4 apps open. I upgraded Java. Genius Bar could not get it to launch.

Here's the fix I found, by way of an explanation...
Snow Leopard prompted me on my first startup with the following error:
"There is a conflict with the _______ font file. This font file contains a font name that conflicts with a system font required by Mac OS X to display onscreen text. You should move this font file to the Trash."
The fonts it said were conflicting: Helvetica, HelveticaNeue.dfont, Lucida Grande, and Monaco. I figured Snow Leopard probably wanted to replace these fonts with newer versions, and so I clicked "Move to Trash" on all four.
Apparently 10.6 trashed these fonts but didn't replace them. This was causing Photoshop to crash on load.
So I restored my ~/Library/Fonts folder from a backup made just before upgrading and this time after a reboot I said "Allow Conflict" on all four dialog boxes and launched Photoshop... everything is back to normal!
Not sure what kind of "conflict" it's referring to, but apparently moving these font files to the trash as OS X prompted me to do broke a number of apps. Should I report this as a bug?
    Thanks for the ideas!

  • Adobe Photoshop CS5 won't launch after Mac update

I updated my mac yesterday to Maverick and now Adobe Photoshop CS5 won't launch.  Can you tell me what files I need to delete to get it to launch.  I tried reinstalling it, and that didn't help.
    thanks

It's very strange.  When I try to double click on the program to open it,
it's like I'm doing nothing.  it sort of blinks like it's going to open but
does nothing.  That's the way it is if I control click and try to open too.
I did try to reboot.  Is there something I could delete in the Library
    file or something?
    thanks

My computer crashed.  I bought a new Mac Book Air, but my Photoshop CS4 won't download.  It keeps wanting a serial number from my last product.  I put it in, but it isn't taken.  I am frustrated and furious!  What can I do?

Bateman777 I reviewed your account and it appears the full version Photoshop software title you purchased was Photoshop CS3.  As Kglad suggested please make sure to utilize your previous full version serial number.  You can find details on how to locate your registered serial numbers at Find your serial number quickly.

  • Photoshop CS6 won't launch and when it does it's really slow...help?

    Hi,
So my copy of Photoshop CS6 sometimes won't launch and when it does manage to launch fully, it's really slow. I mean ridiculously slow. The only times when I can get it to run even remotely quick is if I shut down my computer, and then restart it and then start up Photoshop CS6 as the first program. Even then it slows down after a while. (And I only have a firefox browser open usually, never more than a couple of tabs at once, so it's not a bandwidth issue)
    Here are my comp specs:
    Samsung
    Processor:
    AMD A6-3420M APU with
Radeon (Tm) HD graphics 1.50 ghz
    Installed Memory (RAM) - 4.00 (3.48 usable)
64 Bit operating System running on Windows 7 home premium, service pack 1
I also did just recently install the new update Adobe had for Photoshop, so that's up to date.
It's getting really frustrating! I have another program I'm using in the meantime (Paint tool Sai), but I'd really like to use Photoshop CS6.....
Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Make sure you updated the drivers from AMD's website, not Microsoft.
Make sure you are running the 64 bit version of Photoshop, not 32 bit.
Disable all third party plugins, and try disabling system utilities (we've seen font managers, antivirus, disk backup software, etc. cause slowdowns due to bugs in those utilities).

I've downloaded Photoshop CC and update twice, but it won't launch from Creative Cloud, and i can't find the program in my files. Help?

As i wrote my crystal ball is not working well on this.  I can not tell if you have installed Adobe Creative Cloud Desktop application which is used to Install Photoshop creative cloud versions Or that you downloaded the Photoshop direct installer without using Adobe Download Manager. You write PS goes immediately into an error and shuts down.  You do not include what the error is. You do not show Windows Reliability History PS crash report.

  • Photoshop CS4 will not launch after upgrade to 10.6

I just upgraded to Snow Leopard and found that Adobe Photoshop CS4 crashes every time during launch, moments after the splash screen disappears. I ran the Adobe Updater to see if there was a patch for this, but no go. I've already upgraded to 10.6.1 to no avail.
Photoshop is my livelihood and I'd sure appreciate some help getting this fixed before it starts to cost me! Any ideas?

Please read this FAQ for advice on how to ask your questions correctly for quicker and better answers:

    • What exact version of Ps CS4 are you using?  11.0.2?
    • Exact version of the OS?
    • You are not working over a network, are you?
    • Have you tried creating a fresh, new account and logging in as a different user?
    • Have you Repaired Permissions with Apple's Disk Utility?
    • Check the read and write permissions on the folder(s) and volume(s) to which you are attempting to save.
This is the boilerplate text often used in connection to saving to a network (please NOTE the part where it explains that normally, it does work, but that it is impossible to troubleshoot someone else's network remotely, and that's why it's not supported by Adobe):
If you are opening files over a network or saving them to a network server, please cease and desist immediately in the event you are currently experiencing problems with one or more files. Working across a network is not supported.
    See:
    http://kb2.adobe.com/cps/406/kb406793.html
Copy the CLOSED file from your server to your local hard disk, work on it, save it again to your local hard disk, close it, and copy the closed file back to the server.
Of course, the fact that Adobe does not support working across a network does not necessarily mean it won't work.   It should.
Adobe's position is that there are too many variables in a network environment for them to guarantee that everything will work correctly in every network, especially given the fact that if something does not work properly, it's probably the network's fault, and Adobe has no way of troubleshooting your network.
If you can't work locally, you are on your own, and if something happens, you're on your own. If you must work from a server, make sure your network administrator is a competent professional.
When problems arise, a lot of valuable work can be lost.

  • Still can't get Photoshop CS4 extended to launch in OS 10.4 or 10.5

    Hi,
I posted this question recently and thought I had an answer.
    >>>>I have the Adobe Creative Suite installed on my Powermac DP 1.8 MHz (2004). I have 1.5 GB RAM,
and the system runs pretty well. I do have some 3rd party RAM added, and added a new graphics card recently.
I cannot get Photoshop to launch at all. It crashes during "loading suites", and the crash report mentions:
    Exception Type: EXC_BAD_ACCESS (SIGBUS)
    Exception Codes: KERN_PROTECTION_FAILURE at 0x0000000000000020
    Crashed Thread: 0
    Thread 0 Crashed:

    1 libSystem.B.dylib 0x96c5c754 __swsetup + 212
    .....and the list is longer.
Anyway, I tried all the usual things, deleting preferences, checking the disk, booting 10.4 in safe mode. I even upgraded to 10.5, got a new graphics card and had the same results after an "archive and install".
The only other variable I can think of is the video card, unless the Photoshop install disk is bad.
All the other applications from the suite seem to work OK, though not extensively tested.
My old video card was an nVidia 5200 ultra 64MB. I upgraded the card by buying a reconditioned, flashed PC card, the nVidia 6800 GT 256MB. The card seems to work great. It is listed as compatible for Windows PCs. Could there be some incompatibility with it??
Thanks for any advice. I'd hate to have to downgrade to CS3 for this. <<<<
Back to the new message... So i bought an nVidia 7800 GS that should be compatible, and the seller said it was tested with OpenGL and Photoshop CS4, but it STILL crashes with the same error message. Bad install disk? Anyone have an idea? Thanks.

    Hi,
The guy I bought the GeForce 7800 GS card said it had been tested with photoshop CS4 in Leopard.
Breaking news... I tried re-installing Photoshop, Now there's an error at the end of the installation. "Done with Errors" which leads to the Support Advisor which leads to...
"Error "Unable to read Adobe file version for path /Library/Fonts/MinionPro-Bold.otf" when installing the Adobe Creative Suite 4 or Point Products on Mac OSX"
Is my whole problem font-related? I tried unlocking the Minion font mentioned, re-installed. same thing. I moved all the Minions fonts to the desktop, still no good. Are all the fonts locked? The info window said that font was unlocked to System read/write, but locked to read-only for Admin. There's no way to unlock all the fonts at once? Help!

  • Photoshop CS4 closes after launch

I just bought Photoshop CS4 not too long ago and it has been working fine. I started it up the other day and it just came up with the whole "Photoshop CS4 has stopped working" crap. I was having some bluescreen errors due to my memory, and I thought maybe that might have something to do with it, but i got that fixed, and Photoshop is still messing up. Every time you launch it, it will stay on for about 15 seconds, and then I get the "stopped working" message, every time, never fails. I am running Windows 7 if that helps.
Does anyone have any idea what's going on?

Go to Start, all programs and right click on PS CS4. Click on properties, compatibility and check run as Admin, hit apply then OK to close. start PS CS4.
Ensure PS CS4 is updated to 11.0.1
If all else fails reset the prefs by the keyboard method or the manual way by reading this attachment.

  • CS4 won't launch - what a joke!

Great - Apple send out OSX 10.6.3 & then the CS4 suite edition won't launch!
Adobe promote the product with statements like:
Are  Creative Suite 4 products and components compatible with Mac OS X Snow Leopard (v10.6)?
Yes. Working closely with Apple, Adobe has tested the Creative Suite 4 products and components and determined they are compatible with Mac OS X Snow Leopard, the latest version of Apple's operating system.
Spending close to 120 minutes on the phone to an offshore service centre (Adobe' support) & you get disconnected from their end & an email:
We had a interaction regarding your issue that you could not lauch Design Premium CS4. Unfortunatly (sic) the call got disconnected. Here are the solutions for your issue Solution 1: Revert to Mac OS 10.6.2 or earlier
So, Adobe are telling me that the Design Premium CS4 editition of their software is not compatible with OSX10.6.3
That is just not good enough & I will be asking for a refund!

What kind of a nut would completely fail to realise that it was Craig Keeler-Milne, and not myself, who has the problem with CS4 not launching?
What kind of a nut would completely fail to realise that all Craig Keeler-Milne really wanted to do was vent a little in a forum where there's at least a remote possibility someone from Adobe may read it - and NOT to suffer the sanctimonious condescension of pious meddlers such as yourself?
What kind of a nut would completely fail to realise that BOTH Apple and Adobe are responsible for compatibility, but that more and more these days, Adobe couldn't care less when it comes to Macs - so Craig Keeler-Milne has every right to be fed up?
What kind of a nut would completely fail to realise that all your drivel provided was smug self-gratification, and THAT'S what I objected to? Clearly I was simply defending Craig Keeler-Milne's right to have his say.
Were my posts not clear enough? Did they confuse you? Perhaps you could benefit from some remedial reading and comprehension lessons? Perhaps I could post a few links for you, then snidely explain their obvious purpose? Not that I'm being sanctimoniously condescending or anything - no, of course not. Perhaps if you tried really hard to "raise your level of intelligence" then maybe, just maybe, you'd get it.
    Pathetic.
