Printing slow on HP LaserJet 4100 MFP wired ethernet

When I try to print to our deparment printer HP LaserJet 4100 MFP - it is extremely slow. Printing a document of 10 pages takes about 20 seconds per page. Our printer has harddisk embedded and around 100 MB Ram.
I first noticed printing from Pages was slow (printing a MS Word document), but also first printing to PDF and letting Preview print it was slow.
I am connected to the printer using wired ethernet - and the jetdirect protocol. I am using the latest driver.
regards,
Anders

I have the same problem with a new, firmware updated, HP LaserJet 1536dnf MFP. Curiously, two-sided printing works fine with "Paper size: Letter" whereas it fails for "Paper size: A4". For A4 paper size every second page is a mess of stripes.

  • Why can't I  find my hp printer i.e. Laserjet M1213nf MFP?

Why can't I  find my hp printer i.e. Laserjet M1213nf MFP?  Is it not one of the air printers? And if it is , how will I locate it?

First you'll want to make sure that you have updated the firmware in your LaserJet 1213nf. The firmware updater can be found here:

  • Cannot print duplex with hp laserjet 1536dnf mfp

I am using a HP LaserJet 1536 dnf MFP printer in Windows 8.1 with USB 2 connection.  Cannot print on both sides of sheet because clicking on print properties does not bring up the properties dialog window.  There is a momentary flicker as though it is trying to activate, but no window.  It worked fine until a few days ago and I can't think of any change that might account for this.  Any help with this problem will be greatly appreciated.

    Hi @Marlin1 ,
I understand that you are having issues duplexing, the printer properties aren't opening to make any changes. I would really like to be able to help you resolve this issue.
You can always restore your computer back to a earlier time when everything was working properly. It may have been from a Windows Update. How to refresh, reset, or restore your PC on Windows 8.

  • 'unable to send print data' on HP Laserjet 1536dnf MFP

    Hi there,
I'm running an iMac with OSX 10.6.8. Via an USB cable I have attached a HP Laserjet 1536dnf MFP to the iMac.
I also use this printer to print via wifi (i.e. through the iMac) with my MacBook Pro (with OSX 10.7.3).
Suddenly today the printer stopped working via my MacBook Pro. I get an error message: 'unable to send print data'.
I have checked my antivirus etc., but that does not appear to be the problem. I have also updated the firmware of the printer, without success.
Can somebody help me out? Is the OS difference the problem? But until today that hasn't been a problem.
Thank you very much! Regards, Luc.

    Hi jemenake
I understand you lost connection with the network for the Laserjet 1536 through ethernet connection.
Disconnect the routers power cable, wait 10 seconds, then reconnect the power cable. Wait till it's ready. The router might not be finding the printer on the network.
If this doesn't resolve the issue continue to the next steps.
Print a  configuration report from the  LaserJet 1536dnf.
Press the Setup button, (the one with the wrench on it)
reports, press OK, Config Report, press OK.
Check to see if the ip address is valid.
If you have a valid ip address then delete and add the printer on the mac, the driver might have become corrupted.
    Delete printer on mac.
Click on the Apple, click System & Preferences, then click the Print & Scan icon (on some systems this may be displayed as Print & Fax),highlight your printer name and click the  button on the bottom left corner of the screen.
    Add printer on the mac.
Click on the Apple, click System & Preferences, and then click the Print & Scan icon (on some systems this may be displayed as Print & Fax),click add a printer, then select the printer from the list, make sure the printer listed beside use or print: shows proper printer name and not airprint, (airprint is a preinstalled apple driver with basic funtionality if on 10.8) add it in.
If the ip address is not valid please let me know.
Please click “Accept as Solution ” if you feel my post solved your issue, it will help others find the solution.

  • Insanity when printing on HP Color Laserjet CM1015 MFP

I've bought the Hewlett-Packard Laserjet 1015 a couple of days ago. When printed from the Acrobat Reader 8.1.2, some documents are printed with some criptical fonts instead of letters( totally unreadable ). "Print As Image" from Advanced Settings works, but is not a real option for me. The same files were printed without any problems on my old HP ColorJet 815. Has anybody encountered this problem already?

This seems to be a commercial product. For the best chance at finding a solution I would suggest posting in the forum for HP Business Support!
You can find the Commercial Laserjet board here:

  • Printing problem with hp laserjet 1536dnf MFP

    Printer HP1536dnf
Operating system    Windows 7 (32 bit)
Printer has been set up and installed correctly. Problem is when printing  the lcd is showing "printing document" but nothing  happens for a while and I get a PCL XL Error
    Subsystem:   TEXT
    Error:               InternalError 0x50
    File Name:     cheettext.c
    LIne Number: 710
I have checked all options after going through the hp site including hp diagnostic utility which shows no errors. I have re-installed the printer drivers and have checked if it is offline or paused.

I would make sure you have lastest fw (i know you probably see this alot) there was an update for this product that addressed some pcl erors such as the cheettext people were reporting seeing. you can do this by going: http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/softwareCategory?product=3974279&lc=en&cc=us&dlc=en&lang=en&cc=us and selecting the OS you are using and getting lastest FW.
Also if you do see it a powercycle does help reduce the frequency  that you see it ( i know it is not the best solution ) but at least it should help you get what you need printed printed, sometimes it helps to elminate it for some people.

  • HP Laserjet 4100 on network will not print

Since I’ve installed Snow Leopard, I have not been able to print with my HP Laserjet 4100.
My set-up: new 24” iMac, many hard drives and more. Two devices: HP Color Laserjet 5550 and HP Officejet J5750 are connected to the iMac through a USB Hub. Although initially scanning did not work with the J5750, I was able to make that work once additional drivers were downloaded from HP. Both work fine.
I also have an older HP Laserjet 4100 which has been my steady workhorse for years. It only has Ethernet and serial port outlets. It is connected to an AT&T 2-Wired Ethernet Hub/DSL Modem (model 2701HG-B) that is connected to the iMac.
I’ve contacted HP and Apple about this problem. None of the three people I worked with at Apple could help and the HP representative was unsure if they could help but that it would cost me $40 to find out. According to HP website, since Apple Talk no longer exists, we are required to input the IP for the device. For the 4100, the IP address is 10.0.1.100. I tried this two ways: in the “Add Printer” window under “IP,” inputted as the IPP, and inputted as the HP Jetdirect Socket (as per the HP instructions). When this is done, the printer shows up when you give a print command. However, it does not show up in the “Add Printer” window under “default” or anywhere else.
Status: If I connect the 4100 Ethernet cable directly to the back of the iMac, the “Supply” level indicates the true level of toner in the 4100. However, it will not print. If I connect the 4100 Ethernet cable to the Ethernet hub, the supply level does not show nor can I print.
    Any suggestions?

I am struggling with the same problem. I have two HP 4100dtn printers on ethernet. Each has a manually assigned IP address. I can set up the printer(s) just fine in the Print & Fax Preference and Snow Leopard finds the printer just fine when I enter the IP address and chooses the correct HP Driver.
When I try to print, my print job appears in the queue as expected, than an error appears that something about a "bad command". Sorry, I'm home right now and don't have direct access to the printer so I can't give you the precise language of the message, but the gist of the message is that the system tried to connect to the printer to send the print data but the printer does not know how to respond to the command that was sent.
It's as if the firmware in the 4100 just doesn't have something in it's lexicon that Snow Leopard needs. The HP web site is no help. One page I found says the printer is supported (http://h20000.www2.hp.com/bizsupport/TechSupport/Document.jsp?lang=en&cc=us&obje ctID=c01664444&jumpid=regR1002USEN ) and another page I found says that it is not supported (http://h20000.www2.hp.com/bizsupport/TechSupport/Document.jsp?lang=en&cc=us&obje ctID=c01879014&jumpid=regR1002USEN). The HP on line chat won't let me log in and hold a chat with HP unless I know the Serial Number of the printer, which I don't have here at home.
    More to follow tomorrow.
    Anyone have any ideas?

Well, another week has gone by without a solution.
    Again, here is the problem:
I have a 24" iMac connected to a USB hub and an AT&T 2-Wire DSL/ethernet hub. When I upgraded to Snow Leopard 10.6.1 and now the update 10.6.2, the two printers on the USB hub work fine but the HP Laserjet 4100dtn does not print. This old printer has only ethernet or serial ports. I've downloaded and installed the HP driver updates from Apple and HP to no avail. According to HP, I must add the 4100 manually using its IP. I've followed the instructions while adding a printer to select IP- HP Jetdirect - Socket. The address of the printer is 10.0.1.100. When I type this in, the window says that this is a valid and complete address. It searches and then says the "Print Using:" is a Generic PostScript Printer. The driver for this printer, I believe, should be "HP LaserJet 4100 Series v.3010.107" Regardless, when I click Add the window "Determining Installable Options" shows "Status: Connecting to printer..." It never establishes a connection.
The 2-Wire DSL/Ethernet Hub/Modem, has an IP of 192.1687.1.66, Submask 255.255.255.0 and Router (DNS) 192.168.1.254.
If I plug the ethernet cable directly from the printer to the iMac, the supply level shows correctly but will not print. If I plug the ethernet cable from the printer to the 2-Wire and then to the iMac, it neither shows supply level nor prints.
Any suggestion as to how to fix this problem? (I've been on the phone with 3 different Apple respresentatives and 1 HP representative with no success.)

  • MacBook Air connected to a Laserjet Pro MFP but not printing

Hi, I am trying to print from an HP LaserJet Pro MFP M-125a which is connected to a MacBook Air via a USB cable. The software has been downloaded and the print job window is always showing as if it is in the process of printing the print job given but no printing is issued and the print job is seen as done. Can you please tell me what's wrong why the print outs are not coming out?
    This question was solved.

    Hi @Lilium ,
I see that you are having issues printing through the USB connection. I would really like to be able to help you resolve this issue.
Did you download and install the full software solution or run the Apple Upates?
Check the driver name that is installed for the printer. Make sure it shows just the printer's name.
Click the Apple menu and then click System Preferences. Click Printers & Scanners, highlight the printer name on the left side and on the right side of the screen it should show the printer's name. (LaserJet Pro MFP M125a )
If the full printer name isn't listed correctly, delete it and add the printer name back in from the list. Click the - sign to delete the driver and then click the + sign to add the driver, might have to click the drop down to select the printer's name to add it in.
How is the printer name listed?
If the issue persists, please try the following steps:
Repair the Disk Permissions on the Mac:
    Close all applications.
On the Apple menu bar, click Go, click Applications and then click Utilities.
    Double-click Disk Utility.
Highlight your hard drive/partition on the left.
Click Verify and then Repair Disk Permissions.
    Restart the computer..
    Reset the Printing System:
Note: This will remove all printers in the print and Fax/Scan, any printer removed can be re-added later by clicking the plus (+) symbol.
Click the Apple icon and then click System Preferences.
    Click Printers & Scanners.
Right-click (or Ctrl +click) in the left white side panel, then click Reset printing system.
Click OK to confirm the reset.
Type the correct Name and Password.
Click OK to reset the printing system.
Then click the + sign to add the driver, highlight the printer. (you might have to click the drop down to select the printer's name) Then click on the Add button.
    Try printing again.
If you need further assistance, just let me know.
    Have a great day!

  • LaserJet 700 MFP (M775) Can't Print PDF Drawings

Running a MAC OSX 10.9.5, printing to a HP LaserJet 700 MFP (M775).  I can print word docs fine, even ones converted to a PDF.   When attempting to print an 11x17 PDF of a drawing created in CAD I get an error message intermittently, typically a Insufficient Memory. Hoping someone has run into this, and has a fix?

Hi Kappy, thanks for your response.
I have downloaded adobe reader 7 and got it on the Panther system (version 8 won't download from Adobe's site.) I looked in preferences and can't see anything about printers, but maybe I'm missing something? In Printer Set-up Utility, when I go to add, still no appearance of a pdf printer..

  • Hp laserjet 400 mfp can't scan, i lost the installation cd

    Hello,
    i have a hp laserjet 400 mfp and i can't scan.
I have Windows 7 and the printer works just fine with the W7 software, but the scan option is not available, because the software installs only the printer, not the scanner.
I lost the installation cd and the installation software from hp support only install the printer , not the scanning option. Please help.
I also tried the e-mail scanning software from hp, but i don't know if it works , because i don;t know how to set the settings.
    Thank you.

Hi, thank you for your answer. I tried with the full software you gave me in your link, but it was no good, because my printer is a Laserjet 4100 MFP, and the software was asking for an usb device, wich my printer is not...
I don't need the driver for the printer, i have that driver, but that driver sees the MFP like a simple printer, without scanner, so, the scanner remains usefull. I need the full software or the CD.
I don't receive an error, i just need the full software for Laserjet 4100 MFP. I didn't find it on HP's website, unfortunately and i don't have the installation CD anymore, cause i lost it....
    Thank you.

  • LaserJet Pro MFP M127fw ePrint failures

We bought this printer several months ago.  My boss wanted a printer that could be printed to remotely.  I advised him to get one of the many Google Cloud Print ready printers out on the market, but the salesman at where ever he purchased this printer, told him the LaserJet Pro MFP M127fw was Google Cloud Print ready and that it also offered this amazing feature called HP ePrint.  The salesman was only half wrong.  Technically any printer is google cloud ready (at least in this braindead of a salesman's standards), as you just need to have it connected to a PC.  However, any notion that this printer is an ePrint printer is an outright lie.
So that I don't get bombarded with the normal responses from the "HP Experts," let me list all of the steps I've done:
First, few days I dealt with customer support.  Yes, dealt, as they were rude and ultimately had no information.  Even after the ticket got "escalated," the advanced tech support still had little to add.  I followed all of the steps for troubleshooting on the support pages as well as the forums.  I've changed to static ip's, google dns servers, power cycled all the devices, did a full printer system restore to bring it back to "out of the box" shape in terms of settings/firmware, tried wired/wireless/usb connections, changed routers, opened ports, disabled and reenabled web services, tried all of the above through the browser with direct ip settings prompts, updated firmware, and I'm sure countless other steps that I honestly don't even want to remember.
I was told the web services e-mail given contains the claim code needed for www.hpconnected.com.  When inserting it as required when adding a device, you'll get Unexpected Error unless it's feeling frisky, and then it gives the Invalid Claim Code prompt.  Let's not forget that when I originally signed up, it was hpeprint.com, and when signing in, they took you on the wonderful whirlwind of a redirects from it to hpconnected and back, never getting past the sign in process.
Eventually, I put this printer far far away from me.  Flash forward several months, and I've done all of the above and then some on top of updating to the latest firmware (which I had hoped would solve this issue finally).  Nothing.
When enabling web services, no information page is printed.  When trying to manually do so, we just sit and spin on the Connecting... screen on the LCD.  If I try to do anything related to the web services features, I get the same result, except in the lovely times it changes to Unable to connect to server.. etc.
Outside of the ePrint issues, this device is really nice.  But it is in no shape or form, an ePrint printer.  Fact is, if I wanted this printer without the ePrint functions, I could have saved money I'm sure.
While searching today for possible new solutions on the forums, I see the following thread:
Eprint on HP LaserJet Pro M127fw
An "HP Expert" advises this kid to use google cloud print, which although comical, is enraging.  This device has, and still is, being marketed as an HP ePrint featured printer.  You can see on the official HP website it's listed:
    HP LaserJet Pro MFP M127fw
or see the picture below. But as this other HP webpage shows, this printer is not listed as having these features:
    HP Web-Connected Printers
If anyone has any useful advice, or can get me in touch with the Experts of all "HP Experts," I would love you to my dying breath.  But more than anything, I really just want to know if this printer has, or ever will, have these features available. Because having it promoted on the boxes, in stores, on the websites, even having the LCD show settings for these features is nothing less than infuriating.

    Hi sunrotor,
Welcome to the HP Support Forums. I see that you have had some issues with setting up the ePrint feature of your Laserjet Pro MFP M127fw printer.
Thank you for the very detailed post of things that you have tried. I had a customer who was able to connect with the ePrint servers when using a Level 3 Communications DNS server when trying to connect with their Laserjet Pro M125nw printer. I have included About.com’s list of Free & Public DNS Servers which the Level3 is the first one listed. Please try setting a manual IP address and manual DNS server for the printer using the Level3 servers instead of the public Google DNS servers.
I have also included a post by @VisionAiry that lists all the Incoming and Outgoing Printer Ports. Please ensure that the ports are available for using ePrint.
Please let me know how it goes.

You need to clarify (preferably by showing an example) just what you mean  by "... on paper i have bad fonts ...".
Also give details of the source document application (e.g. Word, Paint, etc.), and which printer driver you are using.
