Problem in using Weblogic 6.1 with Oracle 9i

Hi,
Has anybody experiensing problems in creating connection from Weblogic6.1 to Oracle
9i using thin driver?
We have a piece of codes that works fine with Weblogic 6.1 and Oracle 8.1.7 but
failed to create database connection when we upgrade to database to 9i (the same
code works fine without weblogic).
Thanks

It works after I put the new oracle driver ahead of the weblogic stuff.
Thanks

You should make sure you have the same Oracle driver in the server
classpath, as works in the standalone case. Note that we ship a
thin driver too, so your newer one will ahve to be ahead of all
the weblogic stuff in the server classpath.

After upgraded our oracle server to 9i, we found that our applicationdoes not
work. So, I wrote a simple test program that just creates a connectionand exec
a query. The program works find with 9i by itself (of cause). But,when I put
it in Weblogic 6.1 (as Startup class), there are problems.
First, it takes 833700ms to create a connection (It takes 981ms tocreate a connection
outside wls, it takes 900ms to create a connection to oracle8.1.7 insidewls).
Then, it gets "java.sql.SQLException: ORA-00600: internal error code,arguments:
[ttcgcshnd-1], [0], [], [], [], [], [], []"
while executing the query.
We run weblogic and oracle on Windows2000.
The code looks like:
Class.forName("oracle.jdbc.driver.OracleDriver");
String username = "yourusername";
String password = "yourpassword";
String host = "yourhost";
String sid = "yoursid";
String dbURL = "jdbc:oracle:thin:@" + host +":1521:" + sid;
String sql = "select * from yourtable";
System.out.println(dbURL);
Connection connection = DriverManager.getConnection (dbURL, username,password);
Statement statement = connection.createStatement();
statement.executeQuery(sql);
statement.close();
connection.close();

1. Are you able to create connection pool using Oracle 9i THIN driver
? i.e Define
connection pool & make initial connection => 1. At the time of startup
weblogic
will create connections defined in connection pool.
2. Can you post your error message ?
Thanks

    Hi Joe !
    I didn't get what you would like to point out. Actully, I am using same config.,
    but not to disclose the info. I gave you @test and username/password xxx/xxx.Ok. Now, assuming your pool looks like what I showed, the issue is probably
    that there are multiple Oracle driver zips around, and your standlaone program
    is using a different, newer, better one than the server. Our weblogic jar files
    include a classes12.zip Oracle thin driver, but there are multiple versions of
    classes12.zip, and the latest from oracle is better than the one we sealed into
    our packaging. Please use jave -verbose to identify exactly which Oracle sip file
    you are using in the successful case, then make sure this zip file comes before
    any weblogic stuff in your weblogic server's classpath, so we'll use the same
    driver. This should work. Edit the script you sue to start weblogic to verify
    the classpath does end up with the oracle driver ahead of all weblogic stuff.

    .MadhuriWell fine! That was easy. Your pool definition didn't have the same URL
    or
    user or password as this code. Try this for your pool definition:
    weblogic.jdbc.connectionPool.thin=\
    url=jdbc:oracle:thin:@adl-gbsdevel:1521:PROJECT,\
    driver=oracle.jdbc.driver.OracleDriver,\
    initialCapacity=10,\
    maxCapacity=10,\
    capacityIncrement=1,\
    testConnsOnReserve=true,\
    testTable=dual,\
    props=user=mkelkar;password=mkelkar
    Let me know,,,

    The key is in the log:

    The DBMS driver exception was:
    java.sql.SQLException: invalid arguments in call
    at oracle.jdbc.dbaccess.DBError.throwSqlException(DBError.java:168)
    Now we need to simplify the problem. Please make a simple 15-line
    standalone
    Java program like you'd find with the Oracle driver's examples, with
    no
    weblogic code in the picture. Just make a JDBC connection using Oracle's
    driver, and show me that code. Then I can translate that into a pool
    definition.

    We'd want to see the log during booting, where the pool

    doesn't like that:

    Is this an issue with the "T-engine" or the "J-engine"? Are you using a

  • How to use JavaMail 1.4 with Oracle Application Server 10g (9.0.4.0.0)

    Hi all,
    I'd like to know if it's possible and how to use JavaMail 1.4 with Oracle Application Server 10g (9.0.4.0.0), Windows version.
    With the following code, I can see that the mail.jar used by the server is the one included in the jdk installation :
    // I'm testing InternetAddress.class because I want to use commons-email-1.2.jar that requires mail.jar 1.4 (or higher) and activation.jar 1.1 (or higher)
    // and I know that inside the commons-email-1.2.jar file, I need to call the InternetAddress.validate() method that throws a java.lang.NoSuchMethodError: javax.mail.internet.InternetAddress.validate()V if it is used with mail.jar 1.2.
    Class cls = javax.mail.internet.InternetAddress.class;
    java.security.ProtectionDomain pDomain = cls.getProtectionDomain();
    java.security.CodeSource cSource = pDomain.getCodeSource();
    java.net.URL location = cSource.getLocation();
    System.out.println(location.toString());
    This code returns : file:/C:/oracle/app/jdk/jre/lib/ext/mail.jar and this mail.jar file has an implementation version number: 1.2
    - I've tried to include my own mail.jar (1.4.2) and activation.jar (1.1.1) files in the war file that I deploy, but it doesn't work (the server still uses the same mail.jar 1.2)
    - I've tried to put the mail.jar (1.4.2) and activation.jar (1.1.1) files in the applib directory of my OC4J instance, but it doesn't work (the server still uses the same mail.jar 1.2)
    - I know that a patch exists : I've read the following document: How to Make Libraries such as mail.jar and activation.jar Swappable ? [ID 552432.1]
    This article talks about the Patch 6514136, but this patch only applies to : Oracle Containers for J2EE - Version: 10.1.3.3.0

    I strongly suggest to upgrade to AS 10.1.3 to get this.
    Think of future support of AS 9.0.4. You will get not critical patch updates anymore.

  • Using WebLogic JMS Wrappers with Spring

    Hi,
    I was just wondering if anyone used WebLogic JMS wrappers with Spring?
    I am using WebLogic configured to have Sonic as my Foreign JNDI Provider. Weblogic provide me with specific entries on the admin console to set information such as the JNDI name of the Sonic Connection Factory. If I specify this JNDI name in the Spring config, and call getConnection() then I will get back a new connection each time.
    I don't want this, I want to cache the connection (as connections are expensive in Sonic). This is where the WebLogic JMS wrappers come in, they can handle the pooling for me but the only way I can see to use them is via a resource-ref. It is possible for Spring to get a handle onto these wrappers or should I use Spring's own pooling mechanism instead?
    P.S. I've also asked this question on the Spring forum
    Thanks for any help
    Mandy

    Maybe you have already tried the following:
    <beans xmlns:jee="http://www.springframework.org/schema/jee" ... >
    <jee:jndi-lookup id="connectionFactory" jndi-name="jms.ConnectionFactory">
    <jee:environment>
    java.naming.factory.initial=weblogic.jndi.WLInitialContextFactory
    java.naming.provider.url=t3://localhost:7001
    </jee:environment>
    </jee:jndi-lookup>
    </beans>
    an alternative is to use the JNDI template
    <beans ... >
    <bean id="jndiTemplate" class="org.springframework.jndi.JndiTemplate">
    <property name="environment">
    <props>
    <prop key="java.naming.factory.initial">weblogic.jndi.WLInitialContextFactory</prop>
    <prop key="java.naming.provider.url">t3://localhost:7001</prop>
    </props>
    </property>
    </bean>
    <bean id="connectionFactory" class="org.springframework.jndi.JndiObjectFactoryBean">
    <property name="jndiTemplate" ref="jndiTemplate" />
    <property name="jndiName"><value>jms.ConnectionFactory</value></property>
    </bean>
    </beans>

  • Oracle 9i Problem when using multicolumn bulk update with "save exceptions"

    I'm running into a problem with Oracle 9i when running a multicolumn update with "save exceptions". The problem occurs when updating 4 or more fileds. (The data being updated are 40 character text strings)
    I'm updating 1000 records at a time, in bulk.
    The problem goes away when I don't use "save exception" (i.e. catch the exception the normal "pre-Oracle 9i" way) or when I use "save exception" with 3 or fewer fields.
    (I don't get any exceptions when running without the "save exception")
    Thanks

    The problem is an ORA-14403 error detected during bulk updates only when "save exception" is used with more than 3 fields being updated.
    Remove the "save exception" I can update any number of fields.
    or
    Reduce the number of fields being updated to 3 or less and use save exceptions and the 14403 error goes away.
    (I'd like to use "save exception" without having to break the "update" into two separate 3 field updates.)
    Thanks,
    Len

  • Problem when using weblogic.jspc from an IDE

    I am trying to call JSPC from an IDE (as part of an Eclipse Builder). To optimize performance I want to avoid to spwan a new process. So I am trying to call weblogic.jspc's main method directly from the IDE. Everything works fine for simple simple pages.
              But when the page refers to a tag library with a tag providing a TagExtraInfo class, weblogic.jspc complains about the class not extending the TagExtraInfo base class although it does:
              Errors encountered while compiling 'D:\vrp-localdeploy\applications\wot\WOT' :

              I could not figure out what exactly causes the problem. Using exactly the same settings workes just fine.

              <p>
              Unfortunately it doesn't really give any real reason - it is a general piece of code in jspc to report problems.
              <p>
              But I dug a lot bit deeper into the code and realized that the original problem is a ClassCastException in line 1290 of class StandardTagLib, which reads as follows:
              <p>
                   tagextrainfo = (TagExtraInfo)Beans.instantiate(classloader, s3);
              <p>
              This looks quite obvious that the class named by s3 simply is no extension of TagExtraInfo, but unfortunately the only class with that name being referenced by the class path does extend this class. I wondered what the problem might be and came up with the following answer:
              <p>
              The class of the bean instantiated by Beans.instantiate extends a class with the name "javax.servlet.jsp.tagext.TagExtraInfo" which is cast to another class with exactly <b>the same name, but a different class loader</b>. Since neither of the class loaders is parent of the other one, both classes are not considered being the same class although they have the same name. Sounds weird, but exactly this is the problem!
              <p>
              Where does it come from and why it works fine when the tool is executed in a separate thread or on the console?
              <p>
              From my understanding the problem is caused in line 395 of the class weblogic.jspc:
              <p>
                   GenericClassLoader genericclassloader = new GenericClassLoader(classpathclassfinder);
              <p>
              This line of code creates a class loader not knowing a parent class loader by which the class weblogic.jspc was loaded. All classes weblogic.jspc is using or calling will be loader by either the same or a parent class loader - this is important to understand. Since TagExtraInfo is directly referenced by StandardTagLib one instance of the class object (the object of type class) will be generated and linked when the class StandardTagLib is instantiated for the first time by the class loader which loaded weblogic.jspc (or by its parent). This is consequence which can not be avoided.
              <p>
              But now look at line 1290 of class StandardTagLib: It explicitly requests the class to be loaded by the GenericClassLoader instantiated in line 395 of the class weblogic.jspc. This class loader, off course, is not aware of the same class just being loaded by another class loader since it has no knowledge of it. It simply creates a fresh copy of the class object, which only differs in the reference to the class loader which created this class object.
              <p>
              Actually, I figured that the following line of code replacing the upper one, would resolve the problem:
              <p>
              GenericClassLoader genericclassloader = new GenericClassLoader(classpathclassfinder, this.getClass().getClassLoader());
              <p>
              Doing this, the GenericClassLoader would know its logical parent by reference and would implicitly - thanks to the implementation of java.lang.ClassLoader - try to find the class using its parent first, would find a valid class, and hence use the same instance of the class object instantiated by the parent class loader. The problem would be solved.
              <p>
              It works fine in the console or under a running application server, because they will always have the weblogic jar in their system class path. ClassLoaders not having a parent are implied to have the system class loader as their parent - the piece of code does work in this case.
              <p>
              Under Eclipse this is no option, off course. We would restrain us to exactly this version of the APIs used by the weblogic version in the system class path.
              <p>
              I was trying to patch this myself by extending weblogic.jspc by my own class to pass on a proper class loader knowing its parent, and I was sort of successful: The problem disappeared. But I can't gain exactly what I am looking for, because the method runJspc with four parameters (around line 447) of weblogic.jspc is private to the class and its public brother always passes true to this method as the fourth parameter - causing jspc to recompile all JSPs instead of just the requested ones.
              <p>
              Everything refers to WL81SP3.
              <p>
              That's were I got stuck currently. I have read some postings about this problem in the internet - some dating far back into the history. So, I have the impression that there have been some folks around with the same problem. I think the patch I suggested does not any harm and I could simply use jspc in my builder without any problems.
