Quick question - Setting up an XP desktop to stream music through AE?

Hi,
This might be a silly question, but I'm slightly confused about how to set up the Airport Express to stream music to my sound system.
I am buying a desktop (win XP) which I connect via ethernet cable to my existing wireless router (D-Link). Does the desktop need to have a wireless card built-in as well in order to be able to stream music to the Airport Express? Or can the desktop stream via the cable-connected router?
Many thanks in advance,
// Martin

Martin
I connect a wired XP box to my Airport Express, it is
actually connected to my Airport Extreme Base Station
via ethernet.
I did nothing special other than setting up my
network to include my Express, and then the option to
stream to it was there in iTunes.
Will
Hi Will,
Thanks for your reply. So, if I understand correctly, your XP has no wifi-card and is connected to the Extreme with a wire. Through the Extreme you then stream wireless to the Express?
Cheers,
// Martin

  • Quick Question - Setting up Personal Domain with godaddy

    Hi there
Just a quick question to make sure I've done this correctly?
Ok, I've published my iWeb website.
I've purchased a personal domain with godaddy.
I've set up the personal domain in my mobile me account.
I then logged into my godaddy account and went to 'Total DNS Control and MX Records'
I changed the following under CNAME (Aliases)
    www web.me.com 1 Hour
and then added a new CNAME Record
    www.*******.com web.me.com 1 Hour
Have I done this all correctly?
Will it take a few hours to take effect?
Anything else I need to consider?
    Thanks for reading.
    Ross

CNAME settings can take up to 24 hours to take effect.
As long as you have forwarded your domain name to web.me.com, then it should be okay.

  • Quick Question: Setting Render File Location

    Hi all,
Quick question. I'm guessing with all the disappointment, the answer will be no, but I fully realize that I could have overlooked something so its worth asking!
In FCP7 (familiar phrase huh?) you could explicitly set a location for render files. I understand that you can save FCPX Events on different drives, as well as your projects, however it appears as if the Render Files are getting saved with a folder which also contains your .fcp project file.
I ask because I like having my project file on my internal so my Time Machine will pick it up when I have it hooked up, but all of those render files take up loads of space and I'd like that on my external media drive instead.
    Is there:
a.) A way to tell FCPX to store Render Files in a different location
    OR
b.) A way to move the Render Files to a different location without screwing up FCPX's ability to recognize the project and load it properly.
If so, great! If not, I'll send it along as a suggestion among with some others. Other than those overlooked technical aspects, I'm kind of digging the UI of FCPX and background rendering is saving me so much time its not even funny.

    Hi Jorgen
I spent a bit of time on this today without any success.
In our studio, it's only me that edits... but I use a laptop and a macpro when things get serious. I have a RAID array tyed to the Macpro, and I access it with my laptop via gigabit ethernet.
I created aliases, and when I opened FCPX, nothing appeared. I also was not able to change the name of events I created, and while it would write the project name and events to the new aliased directories... when I reopened FCPX the events and projects were missing.
I then tried symbolic links via the terminal. No luck. I then checked ownership permissions, and made sure the permissions were ignored for the drive and everything was world readable and writable. No luck.
Have you had a chance to experiment with this yet?
    Thanks

  • How to set up an apple network to stream music without having to leave a mac on

I have two macbooks and a sonos system on a wireless network with a netgear router and timecapsule for back-ups. Now, I need to leave a macbook on for sonos to reach the itunes library. But the library is getting too big for the macbook, and Sonos will play better if the library is wired to the router instead of connected wirelessly like it is now, and I don't want to have to put on the macbook every time I want to play music.
So, do I put my library on the Time Capsule? Can it act like a NAS? And if so, I'd need to buy a second Time Capsule to back-up the music library, though I'm wondering if this second time capsule can back-up the first one?
Or should I just get a NAS to connect to the router, store the music there, and if so will my time capsule be able to back-up the library on the NAS? Does the NAS need to be ablt to support Time Machine in OSX?
Is this the way to go in trying to set up Sonos to play without having to turn on a macbook? Or any other suggestions?
    Thanks for your help!

I will jump in and answer the part i know about.. but I do not use SONOS and don't even use itunes in a significant way.. so you will need to look deeper for other parts of your solution.
itunes is strange because it is not a server design.. this makes sharing it hard.. and that is deliberate due to copyright. Apple do not want you to simply copy your itunes for other people to use. So the library is linked closely to the player.
Moving the library has specific method. Apple documents gives you the method.
Of course this is really messy running a computer when you want to play music in lots of settings.. so a NAS is a better solution. TC is not a NAS.. it is a backup target for TM.
I (plus many experts here) do not think TC a suitable location for itunes library.
It has the following issues.. it is designed to be slow to spin up and fast to spin down.. Your computer will lose track of the library every time you boot or wake your computer. Streaming is difficult because the TC will tend to spin down the disk at the first opportunity.
    2. It is easy to corrupt the library. Due to wireless connections many people use.
    3. The TC cannot back itself up .. nor can TM backup network drives.
    4. If the TC dies.. as they have a tendency to do.. your library is lost.. so backup is a serious problem.
Now the above does not stop people from doing it.. with varying degrees of success. never discount the backup problem. If you want to try remember this is not going to be straight forward.
A proper NAS has advantage of being able to back itself up.. it can also have spin settings fine tuned and higher speeds available as well as onboard data protection via raid.
But NAS is still not able to be backed up by TM nor is TM always reliable if backing up to it.. Apple made one and one only network target for TM .. the TC.
Your problem is far from unique.. a few seconds in google will give you loads of info.. even from the sonos forum.
    eg http://forums.sonos.com/showthread.php?t=33468
Is this the way to go in trying to set up Sonos to play without having to turn on a macbook? Or any other suggestions?
Until Apple recognise the hole in their product lineup.. which is maybe deliberate.
A mac mini as a media computer/server (except itunes is not a server.). but you can build a quasi one. It doesn't need to be the latest .. a cheap second hand one say since 2010 should be more than powerful enough to do this role. Attach a large external drive.. not USB2 if possible.. that might mean fw800 or deliberately paying the extra for Thunderbolt mini and connections.

  • Trying to set up new AirPort  Express to stream music

I just purchased Airport Express in order to use our home stereo system with our iTunes located on another computer. I am not techie at all but usually can follow the directions with no problem! It looked like all I had to do was plug the AirPort Express into the wall and hook the line out port to my speakers and it would pick up my wireless network. Well nothing has happened. I have read all the info in the discussion board but cannot find one that is exactly my problem. When I open AirPort Utility on my main computer it says it does not detect any AirPort wireless device. I have a cisco linksys router. All my other computers in the house work fine on this router so I know this is working. Do I need to purchase a AirPort Extreme?
Can anyone help me with very simple instructions as to what I need to do to get this to work?
    Thank you.

Hello Shookie43. Welcome to the Apple Discussions!
By default, the 802.11n AirPort Express Base Station (AXn) will perform as a wireless router. Which is not exactly what you would want in this situation. I am assuming that you want to use the other wireless router for Internet access and only use the AXn for iTunes streaming ... correct?
If correct, then the following would be the basic steps to configure the AXn to do so:
Either connect to the AXn's wireless network or connect directly, using an Ethernet cable, to the Ethernet port of the AXn, and then using the AirPort Utility in "Manual Setup" mode, make the following changes:
    AirPort > Wireless
o Wireless Mode: Join a wireless network
o Network Name: <enter the Network Name or select the existing wireless network from the drop-down menu>
o Wireless Security: <select the encryption type of the existing wireless network>
o Wireless Password: <enter the existing wireless network password>
o Verify Password: <re-enter the existing wireless network password>
    Music
    o Enable AirTunes (checked)
o iTunes Speaker Name: <enter desired speaker name>
    o iTunes Speaker Password: (optional)
    o Verify Password: (optional)
o Click Update to write the new settings to the AX
    In iTunes:
    iTunes > Preferences... > Advanced > General
o Look for remote speakers connected with AirTunes (checked)

Make sure that your bean is implementing the serializable interface and that

  • Quick question!!  Is it mandatory that I set up my DSL through the time capsule? I'd like to leave my current modem from my provider as the primary unit for networking.  So in other words can I just set up the time capsule as a back-up device for now and

Quick question!!  Is it mandatory that I set up my time capsule as my DSL modem?  Based on the location of my iMAC right now it would be better to just leave the modem provided by my internet provider in place.  I really just want to use the time capsule as a back-up storage device for now and connnect the ethernet cable from my ISP at a later date.

Generally it is easier to bridge the TC and plug it into the router.. it then lives on the network.. it is after all, a network drive.. and you can access it via your existing connection whether wireless or wired to the existing modem.
If you really want a totally stand alone setup please tell me how you are presently accessing internet on the Mac you want to backup on the TC.

Not in the Safari browser she can't. That is not supported on the iPad. There are other mobile browsers that do have that functionality - one is iCab Mobile.

  • Looking to Set Up Multiple Virtual Desktops

Hi, I'm a newb looking to set up multiple virtual desktops for my employees. What would be the best windows image to use and how do I install Chrome onto the machines?

    Hi Shru84;
Welcome to Azure.  Azure Virtual Machine as the name suggest are Virtual Server which function as your regular server but does not have a physical presence but is hosted on Azure Platform.
We have a variety of OS flavors, there is nothing which is good or bad, its more of a question of your requirement.  Please note that the desktop Version of Windows 7/ 8
are at the moment only available for MSDN subscriber.
As for Chrome Installation its the same as installing it on a regular machine, that is opening up a web browser, loggin into chrome download site and installing it. ( http://www.google.com/chrome/ )
    Here is an example:
his tutorial shows you how easy it is to create an Azure virtual machine (VM). This tutorial uses a Windows Server image, but that's only one of the many images available through Azure. This includes Windows operating systems, Linux-based operating systems,
and images with installed applications. The images you can choose from depend on the type of subscription you have. For example, desktop images may be available to MSDN subscribers.
You can also create Windows VMs using
your own images as templates. To learn more about Azure VMs, see
    Overview of Azure Virtual Machines.
    NOTE:
You need an Azure account to complete this tutorial:
    You can
open an Azure account for free: You get credits you can use to try out paid Azure services, and even after they're used up you can keep the account and use free Azure services, such as Websites. Your credit card will never be charged, unless you explicitly
change your settings and ask to be charged.
    You can
activate MSDN subscriber benefits: Your MSDN subscription gives you credits every month that you can use for paid Azure services.
How to create the virtual machine
This section shows you how to use the From Gallery option in the Management Portal to create the virtual machine. This option provides more configuration choices than the
Quick Create option. For example, if you want to join a virtual machine to a virtual network, you'll need to use the
    From Gallery option.
    NOTE:
You can also try the richer, customizable Azure Preview Portal to create a virtual machine, automate the deployment of multi-VM application templates, use enhanced VM monitoring and diagnostics features, and more. The
available VM configuration options in the two portals overlap substantially but aren't identical.
Sign in to the Azure Management Portal. Check out the
Free Trial offer if you don't have a subscription yet.
On the command bar at the bottom of the window, click New.
Under Compute, click Virtual Machine, and then click
    From Gallery.
The first screen lets you Choose an Image for your virtual machine from one of the lists in the Image Gallery. (The available images may differ depending on the subscription you're using.) Click the arrow to continue.
The second screen lets you pick a computer name, size, and administrative user name and password. If you just want to try out Azure Virtual Machines, fill in the fields as shown in the image below. Otherwise, chose the tier and size required to run your
app or workload. Here are some details to help you fill this out:
New User Name refers to the administrative account that you use to manage the server. Create a unique password for this account and make sure to remember it.
You'll need the user name and password to log on to the virtual machine.
A virtual machine's size affects the cost of using it, as well as configuration options such as the number of data disks you can attach. For details, see
Virtual Machine and Cloud Service Sizes for Azure.
The third screen lets you configure resources for networking, storage, and availability. Here are some details to help you fill this out:
The Cloud Service DNS Name is the global DNS name that becomes part of the URI that's used to contact the virtual machine. You'll need to come up with your own cloud service name because it must be unique in Azure. Cloud services are important
    for scenarios using
    multiple virtual machines.
For Region/Affinity Group/Virtual Network, use a region that's appropriate to your location. You can also choose to specify a virtual network instead.
    NOTE:
If you want a virtual machine to use a virtual network, you must specify the virtual network when you create the virtual machine. You can't join the virtual machine to a virtual network after you create the VM. For more information, see
Azure Virtual Network Overview. - For details about configuring endpoints, see
How to Set Up Endpoints to a Virtual Machine.
The fourth configuration screen lets you configure the VM Agent and some of the available extensions. Click the check mark to create the virtual machine.
    NOTE:
The VM agent provides the environment for you to install extensions that can help you interact with or manage the virtual machine. For details, see
    Using Extensions.
After the virtual machine is created, the Management Portal lists the new virtual machine under
Virtual Machines. The corresponding cloud service and storage account also are created and are listed in those sections. Both the virtual machine and cloud service are started automatically and the Management Portal shows their status as
    Running.
Click Virtual Machines, and then select the appropriate virtual machine.
On the command bar, click Connect.
Click Open to use the Remote Desktop Protocol file that's automatically created for the virtual machine.
    Click Connect to continue.
Type the credentials for the administrative account on the virtual machine, and then click
    OK.
    TIP:
In most cases, you'll use the user name and password that was specified when the virtual machine was created. Check the user name to make sure it has the correct domain information:
If the VM belongs to a domain at your organization, make sure the user name includes the name of that domain.
If the VM doesn't belong to a domain, either remove any domain information by starting the line with '\' or use the VM name as the domain name. For example,
    \MyUserName or MyTestVM\MyUserName.
If the VM is a domain controller, type the user name and password of a domain administrator account for that domain.
Click Yes to verify the identity of the virtual machine.
You can now work with the virtual machine remotely.
    Regards;
    Prasant

  • 2 Quick Question

Hello - I'm pretty new to Motion and have 2 quick questions:
    1) If you've got a bunch of keyframes on a timeline and want to make the entire sequence longer - is there a way to just pull the last frame out and have it automatically interpolate the keyframes in between so that it keeps the same timing and everything... it just makes the whole sequence take longer?
    2) On the same timeline with a bunch of keyframes, can you apply one long Interpolation (ala "Ease Out") to the entire thing from A-Z so that the whole sequence eases out rather than just keyframe to keyframe?
    Thanks!!
    Jason

    Heya,
    1. If you're asking if you have something like the "roving" keyframes in AE...well, kinda. Keyframes on footage, shapes, generators, particles, replicators—objects that create an image—don't seem to scale. But keyframes on secondary objects like behaviors and filters do scale.
    2. Very easy: go into the Keyframe Editor and click on the animation state icon/menu for the parameter you want to change. The icon/menu is the last column after the parameter's value in the left-hand side of the Keyframe Editor. If you pick an interpolation type in that menu, it applies it to all keyframes in that particular curve. It's also the same place where you can set the before/after extrapolation, like ping-pong, progressive, etc.

  • Quick question regarding best practice and dedicating NIC's for traffic seperation.

    Hi all,
I have a quick question regarding best practice and dedicating NIC's for traffic seperation for FT, NFS, ISCSI, VM traffic etc.  I get that its best practice to try and separate traffic where you can and especially for things like FT however I just wondered if there was a preferred method to achieving this.  What I mean is ...
    -     Is it OK to have everything on one switch but set each respective portgroup to having a primary and failover NIC i.e FT, ISCSI and all the others failover (this would sort of give you a backup in situations where you have limited physical NICs.
    -    Or should I always aim to separate things entirely with their own respective NICs and their own respective switches?
During the VCAP exam for example (not knowing in advance how many physical NIC's will be available to me) how would I know which stuff I should segregate on its own separate switch?  Is there some sort of ranking order of priority /importance?  FT for example I would rather not stick on its own dedicated switch if I could only afford to give it a single NICs since this to me seems like a failover risk.

I know the answer to this probably depends on however many physical NICs you have at your disposal however I wondered if there are any golden 100% rules for example FT must absolutely be on its own switch with its own NICs even at the expence of reduced resiliency should the absolute worst happen?  Obviously I know its also best practice to seperate NICs by vender and hosts by chassis and switch etc

  • Re-importing into iPhoto 06 Quick Question

    I hope.
My photos are on an external hard drive. I jogged the wire the other day during an import and stopped the import. When I next loaded up iPhoto all the photos had changed to ! , so I reimported them, which all worked fine, but it's reimported everything including the thumbnails, so I now have every picture at least twice and want to get rid of all the small sized files.
Can I do it a quick way like search for photos below a certain size or should I import from a different point? I imported from the iPhoto directory, but should I have been a bit more specific on a sub directory? I want to make sure I get the original photos and any photos I've edited.
Finally, should I delete the existing thumbnails in one of the directories before I re-import?
    Thanks

    It’s not a quick question.
so I reimported them, which all worked fine, but it's reimported everything including the thumbnails, so I now have every picture at least twice
This was not the way to go about this. You’ve now imported to a damaged database and that is inherently unstable.
There is no way to search on file size in iPhoto. You may have some luck with Duplicate Annihilator
However, do you still have the original library? If so, here’s how to start over:
Try these in order - from best option on down...
    1. Do you have an up-to-date back up? If so, try copy the library6.iphoto file from the back up to the iPhoto Library allowing it to overwrite the damaged file.
    2. Download iPhoto Library Manager and use its rebuild function. This will create a new library based on data in the albumdata.xml file. Not everything will be brought over - no slideshows, books or calendars, for instance - but it should get all your albums and keywords back.
Because this process creates an entirely new library and leaves your old one untouched, it is non-destructive, and if you're not happy with the results you can simply return to your old one.
    3. If neither of these work then you'll need to create and populate a new library.
To create and populate a new library:
Note this will give you a working library with the same Rolls and pictures as before, however, you will lose your albums, keywords, modified versions, books, calendars etc.
Move the iPhoto Library to the desktop
Launch iPhoto. It will ask if you wish to create a new Library. Say Yes.
Go into the iPhoto Library on your desktop and find the Originals folder. From the Originals folder drag the individual Roll Folders to the iPhoto Window and it will recreate them in the new library.
When you're sure all is well you can delete the iPhoto Library on your desktop.
In the future, in addition to your usual back up routine, you might like to make a copy of the library6.iPhoto file whenever you have made changes to the library as protection against database corruption.
    Regards

  • Quick Question re Data Source

    Hi
I have a quick question re datasource login.
I havent touched my Crystal Reports for about a year. Since I created the reports (which users have been using through Crystal Reports server) I have changed my PC.
I need to make a change in the formulas of the reports so I have reinstalled Crystal Reports 11 onto my PC and opened the reports. The forumula change is simple but I am having a nightmare with the data source login. The report runs against an SQL database. From memory all I did the last time was create an ODBC connection on my PC (which used the the SQL login sa account) and configured the reports to use that ODBC connection. When I open the report it asks me for the data source location which I tell it to use the one I created and the report runs fine.
If I close Crystal Reports and and then re-open, I press F5 to run the report and it gain asks me for the data source credentials.
Any ideas, I'm sure it is something simple I am missing?
    Thanks

    Guys
    Thanks for your help
Ive managed to fix it but not really sure how although I'm sure a few of the things you have mentioned is what I have done.
I basically restored the reports from last nights backup (before I did the changes), re-did the changes and saved and now it seems  to work. I think the difference here is that I had created the odbc connection prior to changing the reports - if that makes sense?
What I would like to do is fully understand how this data source connection works.
Don, when I open the report now and hit f5 the report presents me with the parameters and not the database login screen as it was doing before - how is this? What credentials is it using? The SQL sa account (which I configured the ODBC connection to use) or is it my domain account of which I assume permissions for this account must be set on the actual SQL database?
As you and Jeff suggested when I look at the datasource connection screen it shows "trusted Connection: 1" - what does this mean and how is this configured, have I configured this in Crystal somewhere?
    Thanks

  • Quick question....What If I Delete Original Photos???

    Hi, quick question...
I created a folder on my desktop and put some photos in it. I then imported these photos into iPhoto to make an album. Now, does this mean I can delete the original folder on my desktop? Or, if I do this will the photos in my iPhoto album not display?
Hope this makes sense, thanks for any advice!

IF you are using the default and strongly recommended managed library (the iPhoto advanced preference to "copy imported items to the iPhoto library" is checked) then you can delete the photos form the source (disk or camera) after they are imported and you have verified that they are safely in iPhoto - It is also recommended that you never let iPhoto delete photos form the camera but after properly disconnecting the camera and verifying the import you use the camera format command to delete them
If you have a referenced library (the above mentioned preference has been unchecked) then you can not delete the photos - in fact even moving them can be problematic

  • Oracle 10gR2 Dataguard quick question

    Hi -
Just a quick question about Oracle 10gR2 Dataguard. I'm in the process of creating dataguard standby, which is running for few hours and could take few more hours because of the size and the standby's network latency, and i'm using OMS to create the DG. I'm in a situation now to create new tablespace(A) and also one more datafile to the existing tablespace(B).
Question is: How would this new tablespace and the new datafile in the existing tablespace affect the DG standby which is about to finish in couple hours? Will the DG pickup the new changes from the primary? Or, will it be done with error from the mismatch of the number of files? The issue is that i can't wait for the standby creation to be done as the additional tablespace and datafile requirement is production critical, and should be added right away.
note: standby_file_management is set to auto.
    Thanks for your response.
    regards.

Your post is a bit vague, as OMS is an acronym for Oracle Management Server, which is a service only.
If you would have stated you are using Database Control, or RMAN duplicate database, the picture would have been much clearer.
Database Control uses rman duplicate database.
Recovery is the mandatory implicit last step of this procedure to pick up all changes since you started the duplicate.
One word of warning: Network latency is one thing to avoid like hell in a standby configuration.
It might even slow down your production database.
