Resolution Steps:  iPhone, iPad or iPod Touch library corrupted and showing ghost entries which will not play or music that is on the device in iTunes but inaccessible.

Issue:  iOS Music application either has items listed in the library that will not play; or has an empty library but iTunes reports that music is present on the device and taking up space; or a combination of these issues coupled with the inability to resolve the problem through the standard resolution steps of disabling music syncing to remove all music and then re-enabling or by enabling "manually manage library" and removing the items.
Additionally, attempting to restore from a back-up does not resolve the issue and the default response from the Apple Support Community is to factory restore the device and treat as new device, resulting in loss of all settings and basically starting from scratch.
Cause of issue:  Corrupted iOS device iTunes library (MediaLibrary.sqlitedb).  This database stores the iTunes Media records and related information such as playcount, lyrics etc.  It does not store information and settings regarding iOS Applications as far as I am aware so this should be safe.
Resolution Steps:
Perform a back-up to your local computer rather than iCloud if practical.  This will be quicker in the event of issues.
Download a iOS device manager such as Phone View (http://www.ecamm.com/mac/phoneview/) which will allow you to directly access the file structure of the device.  (This will NOT require an illegal jailbreak to be performed!)
Enable the Advanced View mode so the entire disk structure is accessible.
Browse to the following file:  iTunes_Control/iTunes/MediaLibrary.sqlitedb
Rename MediaLibrary.sqlitedb to MediaLibrary.sqlitedb-backup or similar
Hold down POWER and HOME on your iOS device until the Apple logo appears.  Release both buttons.
When device has rebooted, connect to iTunes and synchronise it.
iTunes will detect that the Media Library on the device is missing and recreate it based on the items that it has listed in the iTunes synchronisation record for the device.

This problem seems to be everywhere online, but no concrete solution for everyone. 
I finally came across your simple solution (at least for me because of my small inventory of music) of just deleting all the music through the settings, and then re-synching to add back my music.  Now all of the album artwork is correct again.  I'm almost afraid to add new music for fear the artwork will get mixed up all over again! I still think my issue is somehow connected to the iTunes 11 update because up until then I had no issues whatsoever. Anyway, thanks for an easy solution that worked for me.

    Sometimes and ISO update breaks compatibioity and a firmware update the the dock is required or an iOS update is required.
    Downgrading the iOS is not supported by Apple.

  • Iphone 4s videos will not play on Quicktime on my PC, the screen is black but there is sound.  Any ideas?

    I took some videos of my daughter and went to view them on my computer (pc) and they will not play.  The computer recongnizes them as quicktime files (.MOV) but when they are selected for playback, the screen is black and all that plays is the audio.  I downloaded the latest quicktime pro at $30.00 and the problem still exsists.  The video was taken on an iPhone 4s with the iOS6 updated software. 
    What is the problem?  What is the fix?

    Disable Direct3D acceleration in the player you are using.
    If you use VLC media player, Go to preferences, Video, And under output, change from default to "Direct 2D video output"
    If you use Quicktime, Downgrade to Quicktime 7.6 or upgrade to quicktime 7.7.3 and Go to
    Edit --> Preferences -->Quicktime preferences.
    Under that, go to advanced tab, and uncheck "Enable Direct3d acceleration" (3'rd box)
    Fixed the problem for me

    I recorded videos on my ipad and wanted to edit on Quicktime Pro on windows, but all I have is sound no picture. The Quicktime software is is udated 7.7.2 & my Ipad is the latest version with ios6. I could play the videos on the iPad, obviously, but cannot see them on PC. I run Windows 7.

    Your device has a hardware failure and only replacement or repair will fix it.  Take it to an Apple Store or an Apple authorized service provider.

    So, here is an update to my original question, in case anyone else has this issue. I spoke with a senior adviser at apple, who had me use the "devmgmt.msc" command in the search line of Windows 7; after expanding the USB controllers menu, she had me uninstall/delete the "apple mobile device driver" and then open "control panel" and "uninstall programs." Once the menu of programs was open, she had me highlight the program "apple mobile device controller", then repair it, and restart the computer. This fixed the issue and the iPod synced.
    However, just one day ago, when I plugged in both the iPod, then the iPad (not at the same time), I get the message that "this library has already been synced to another iPod/iPad or other IOS device." It then asked if I wanted to set up as a new device or from restore of previous. That is wher I am right now; I am trying to get the same apple adviser again to discuss the case number. More to follow.

    If necessary:
    Download QTMLClient.dll & iTunesMobileDevice.dll for RecBoot
    For MAC or PC
    The Firmware Umbrella - TinyUmbrella
    - If not successful and you can't fully turn the iOS device fully off, let the battery fully drain. After charging for an least an hour try the above again.
    - Try on another computer
    - If still not successful that usually indicates a hardware problem and an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store is in order.

    Hello - I received an ipod touch for christmas and have been enjoying it tons! I’m having a “duh” moment…can you please help. How do I move the icons around from page to page? I was able to get it to work once - but don’t know how I did it and now can’t figure it out any more.
    Two other questions… 1) when I downloaded a music video from itunes, it was saved under the “video” folder - well, it would not let me play it. An error would appear saying that it is unable to play the video. Then, the “graphic” beside the video, was of the cover of another movie I had purchased???
    2) My music had been playing just fine. I had been downloading cd’s onto my ipod (thru itunes) on a computer at home, then I came into the office (because I do not have internet at home) and purchased songs via itunes store and ever since then, when I try to play music it scrolls really fast through the song titles and arrow flashes in the top right corner and there is not any sound. Sometimes it will also display a frame of one of the movies I have saved while doing this as well - but will not play any music and freezes.

    Touch and hold your finger on one of the application icons. When they start dancing you can drag the icons where you want them. To get them to another page, drag them right or left to the edge of the page and the page will change.

    Change your iCloud ID password: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT5624.  After doing so, go to Settings>iCloud, tap Delete Account, then sign back in with the new password.

    Sounds like the Activation Lock (iOS 7) is working as designed. It determs theft since y have to know the APple ID's passward to use/restore the iPod foro use. Unless you can get the password you have a nice but thin brick. Likely the iPod was stolen
