Still under warranty.... why $95 charge?

My Ipod is dead (red light, won't charge, not recognized by Itunes). I don't have an apple store near me, and I did all the troubleshooting tips. I read thru the warranty info and it says that after 180 days there'll be a $29.95 s&h charge. Okay, that's a lot, but I want it fixed. So I fill out the form and after several pages of questions, it tells me the service fee is $95!!!! Are they kidding? That's more than buying a new one! What is going on here?

What I don't understand is that if it says on the warranty that I'm covered except for the shipping charge of $29.99, that should be the charge, not $95, which is not only excessive but more than the unit cost on the first place. OF COURSE I am not going to agree to pay it. Even if I were to 'not return' the defective part(which would be expremely stupid of me since IT DOES NOT WORK), why would I agree to pay more than it is worth? Right now if I can't get it fixed for the IN WRITING quote of $29.99, I'm not going to buy an Apple product ever again, as I will deemed them unreliable and deceitful.

    No. You must call and make an arrangement to return yours for a replacement. They will set up the return and send you a box and shipping label. Then you send your old charger, cable, etc. back. A new one will be returned to you.
    Do not simply send something to Apple.

  • IPhone Charger still under warranty?

    I have an iPhone still under warranty and while pulling the cable out of the wall charger a piece of the charger (inside the charger) broke off. I do not believe that I pulled the charger too hard but removing the cable from the charger was always difficult from the moment I got my phone. I know that all accesseries that come with the phone are under warranty, but would my charger still be considered under warranty if a piece actually broke off from the inside of the charger while removing the cable?

    Your best option would be to visit and Apple store genius bar and have the iPhone and charger checked by the techs and replaced if faulty.  You could also contact Apple customer support for service, http://www.apple.com/contact or click the Support button at the upper left part of this page and follow the links to iPhone service.
    The best approach, though would be a visit to the Apple store if you can do that.

    I had the same problem and took my iPhone 5 into the Apple store.  What happened was a little embarrassing.  The genius took out a "special tool" (a paper clip) and began digging out an unimaginable amount of lint from the lightning connector port.  After that I was able to connect the cord and charge without any issues. 
    A few days after, I realized that my problems associated with the remote/mic not working on my ear pods might be due to the same issue.  (The volume and action buttons on the ear pods sometimes were not responsive)  I grabbed a paper clip and began digging.  Again, a large wad of lint came out of the headphone port and my ear pods have worked perfectly since.

    We've an article that provides the following troubleshooting steps that may help stabilize your iPhone.
    If the device is unresponsive or if certain controls aren't working as expected, restart your device.
    If the device remains unresponsive or does not turn on (or power on), reset your device.
    If there is no video or if the screen remains black, verify that the device has enough charge to turn on:

    That was a very very very small fraction of iPod nanos. I do not believe that iPods are still experiencing that.

    It is free if there is a manufacturing defect and you are still within your 1 year limited warranty.
    If it is accidental or liquid damage then you may be looking at a fee to get a replacement.
