Strange behaviour of data element object

Dear Gurus,
I have incremented the field length of a z table's field from 5 (type DEC) to 8 by increasing the corresponding domain length . But the internal tables that refer to this field still refer to the old value 5, though the table is accepting values for this field with 8 length through 'Create Entries' in SE11.
The problem seems to be in the runtime object of the corresponding data element which shows
database length = 5
abap length = 5
BUT dictionary length = 8.
Could anyone pls help diagnose this strange behaviour as even if I create new domains with new data elements for this table field ,it gives the SAME RUNTIME OBJECT STATUS as mentioned above.
Rewards are awaiting the right answer.

Hi,
For these kind of problems, you can use the Database utility tool (SE14), give the table name press enter, click Adjust and Activate Database table also select save data radiobutton. After this Re-Run the Program, it works fine, also cross-check in the Debugging screen.

7.5: strange behaviour on data entry schedule

Hi,
I have a very strange problem when entering data. A user can enter data and send it to the database with no error but the schedule then does not display it. I have investigated a bit and found out that:
a) if I remove all summation accounts from the schedule the value is shown correctly
b) it only happens for 4 "special" periods we have in our time dimension.
So, to explain those two a bit more.
a)
The input schedule was originally set up using the account for profit from the P&L in the current view and a member set of SELF,ALL. When a user now enters data onto the first base level account (SALES THIRD PARTY) it will be sent to the database but after a refresh of the schedule it won't be displayed any more. If I change the member set to BAS the value will be displayed.
b)
For 2011 we have a few companies that cannot deliver data on a monthly level, they can only deliver data on a quarterly level. So, since our application is YTD but uses the periodic option on currency conversion, simply loading the data for those entities into MARCH, JUNE, SEPTEMBER and DECEMBER will not work on currency conversion. We therefore set up four new periods (TIMEID = 20111400, 20111500, 20111600 and 20111700) to enter the data into. As these are four consecutive periods, the periodic conversion should then work as expected. And for reporting we will have to manually add 20110300 and 20111400, 20110600 and 20111500 etc together. These periods are set up as LEVEL=MONTH.
Does anyone have an idea what might be the problem here?

I have very similar problem. I'm using addtional time base level members to store data quarterly. I'm using script logic co copy data from MAR to additional member Q1_INPUT ,JUN to Q2 input etc.... Later client input manual adjustmets on these additional members quarterly.
Script is working fine, I checked in BW RSA1 that data was sucesfully save, but not displaing in my input schedule for special members.
What is strange I noticed problem with displaing data on additional members in only for AST/LEQ accounts, for INC/EXP they are visible in my input schedule.
I have no idea why this happens.

Strange behaviour of data field in Monthly Invoice.

Dear all,
I need to create new layout for monthly invoice using Print Layout Designer. I need to add the closing date procedure code, so I create new data field refering to the Closing Date Procedure file. This first data field shows many files. But when I want to add another new data field, this second data field only shows the Administration and Closing Date Procedure file. I need to add field from other file, but it does not appear.
If I delete the second data field, I can find the file I need in the first data field (the one supposed to be fill with closing date procedure code).
Is there any idea how to get other files in the second data field ?
By the way, I am using SBO version 2004.2b for Japanese user, and monthly invoice is an important function in Japan.

Strange behaviour of Calendar Objects

Hello folks, you may not believe it but I had a really strange behaviour in my Calendar Objects:
I have 2 GregorianCalendar Objects, one instantiated by getInstance() for holding a reference for today and a second a user can pick which may or may not lie in the past. With some of my date fields it is allowed to have a past date, with others it is not, that is why I hold the reference for today.
Then, for getting to know if the picked date is in the past I set the hours, minutes, seconds and milliseconds to 0 before comparing because I was just interested in the day not the time.
And now comes what I cannot comprehend nor what I was able to fix:
In the morning hours of the day I programmed this worked great. I gave it to our testers, and some days later I got it back on my desk, it would not work. I tested again in the morning, and it workd. I was confused, let it lay around a few days and tested again, this time in the afternoon. And it worked not ... now I was really confused. Just I had no time to fix it asap and put it aside for the next morning ... when it worked again ... ???
So I started deep debugging ... and since I already got an idea it could have something to do with the daytime I worked on it in the evening.
The debugging told me that the milliseconds of the 2 Calendar objects had exactly the same time and date, just different milliseconds in the evening and in the afternoon, but not in the morning. I cannot understand why, maybe one of you?
I solved it by kicking the millisecond compare and compared year, month and day, so now it works. But it still confuses me why the milliseconds could have differed at all and why not in the morning but just in the afternoon and evening (both Objects are of the same time zone, I checked this, too).

I set the hours, minutes, seconds and milliseconds to 0...And you get different results in the morning and the afternoon? Okay, go to the API documentation and read about what the constant Calendar.HOUR means. Look just below it for another constant called Calendar.HOUR_OF_DAY and consider whether you should be using that instead.

Import data element error !

Hi all!
I have a problem with SAPLink when I try to import .nugg file (this file contains data element). I use SAPLink and get a good result with programe, class, smartforms, function group,... but Data dictionary objects. I install Data dictionary objects plug-in and active it (active whole worklist). When I use DTEL(Data element) object type to export to .nugg file, it's good but i can't import this file.

Strange behaviour of Removal of Alpha for Info object in Quality system as compared to Development system.
Hi,
The data for an info object Key in the DSO was 00000000000000000000000000123. I removed Alpha for the info object and data was corrected to 123 in the DSO in development system.
Now, when i transported the info object without alpha to quality and loaded data into DSO, the data is still the same with leading zeros.
I dont want to write routine to remove leading zeros, as I have values as 0. If i write routine, all zeros will be removed and this will be blank.
Both development and quality have same patches applied and are on same level.
Why is this strange behaviour in quality system...
Any inputs?? please suggest.

Mechanism for Info Object Data elements inherit source documentation?

Say I am in ECC. I go to SE11, give table name MARA and then doubleclick on the dataelement 'MATNR'. Then I click on documentation. I get a popup with Short text " Material Number" and Definition "Alphanumeric key uniquely identifying the material'.
I am interested in the latter information that is 'Definition' - & in general whatever documentation comes up for data element in ECC/CRM/SCM/SRM.
Now I log into SAP BI. I find that under characteristic 0Material, the data element is /BI0/oimaterial. When I double-click this datamaterial and press the documentation button, the system says 'No documentation'.
My Questions:
1. IS there a switch we could turn on in source [ECC/SRM/CRm/SRM] so that the data element in SAP BI inherits the original source field data element documentation.
{ I am not too convinced of the argument- that in BI we have info objects in ECC we have fields - since I am talking of data element level information- I would tend to think of this as an oversight of the designers [or de-prioritization] !!}.
2. Could we have an ABAP workaround? That is, in BI we identify the tables that house the mapping between the source and destination data elementsa and take out this information. Then we extract the dataelement documentation [by function DOCU_GET] and use the mapping info above to link SAP BI data element with source data element documentation.
WHY do I want to punish myself as above? My use case is, we take out SAP BI Table, field, metadata etc and create a model in a modeling tool and physical implementation in a 3rd party DW database as our own canonical, application-agnostic corporate datawarehouse. I would want the source data element documentation to flow to this last system as well as the modeling tool.

How to bring a custom data element into another ods object

I have an ods object which has a custom data element called customer purchase order number. I have another ods object which needs that custom data element. Both these ods objects are part of a multiprovider. How do I make the customer purchase order number available in the 2nd ods object? We are in SAP BW 3.5

Hi Ramgopal,
as suggested by experts, create or use the custom infoobject.
go to change mode of ODS (2nd ODS) add custom infoobject into data or key fields (similar to 1st ODS), then update rules od 2nd ODS will be deactivated. go to change mode of update rules and map with the infoobjects which feeds dat to custom infoobject (similar to 1st ODS)
if routine is used to populate data copy and paste same routine and check routine and activate.

Strange behaviour when parsing dates

Hi everyone,
I have an array with 3 string values representing dates, when I convert them to date elements there are no errors, But some of the dates produced dates are wrong!
This is very strange as it is the first time that I'm coming across such an error.
I would be grateful if anyone can advise me on this issue.

One to many mapping - strange behaviour

I noticed a strange behaviour which happens when working with 1 to n
relationships. Maybe the behaviour is intended by the JDO specification or
maybe I haven't set the proper kodo properties to make it work.
Here's the problem:
I have the following two classes wich I map to a database table each (using
datastore identity):
class Person
private String name;
private Collection cars;
// setters and getters
class Car
private String model;
private Person owner;
// setters and getters
When I have a persistent car object and I assign it to a persistent person
like this:
car.setOwner(person);
and I immediately retrieve all cars of the person by calling:
Collection c = person.getCars()
the car ist not in the collection as I would expect it to be. In my opinion
JDO should make sure the car is added to the collection.
Even after I commit the whole transaction the car is still not in the
collection.
To make the car appear in the collection I have to create a new
PersistentManager (when using javax.jdo.option.Optimistic=true) and refetch
the person object again.
Can anyone enlighten me on this problem?

This is a bit of a philosophical question. One of the goals of JDO is to
be as closely aligned to the Java language as possible, and Java has no
concept of a shared relation. So, we do not perform any work to ensure
that relations get 'magically' set on both sides. Instead, you must set
both sides of the business relation yourself in Java code.
The result of this is that code that you write will behave the same
regardless of whether or not the objects are persistent. So, you can write
test cases or non-persistent parts of your application and trust that the
code will behave the same in both instances.

Strange behaviour from new 2012R2 in old domain

Hi all,
At work (education level), I'm starting to take charge of windows admin, so beiing a noob admin I'm finding strange behaviours that I hope you can help me solve them all :-)
We've one (big) domain with about 5000 computers (workers and students all together), and around 50000 users (again, workers and students all together) setup like this:
DC-DOMAIN-1:
Windows Server 2008R2
Shares NETLOGON and SYSVOL
DC-DOMAIN-2:
Windows Server 2003 R2 x64
Shares CertEnroll, NETLOGON, SMSLOGON, SYSVOL
Checking RootDSE, I see 'domainControllerFunctionaly is Windows 2003' (DC-DOMAIN-2)
So, with this setup, I've noticed these strange behaviours, hope list isn't too big (guess there will be more behaviours but these seemed too odd):
1) On DC-DOMAIN-2, WinServer 2003 eventlog, inside 'Directory Service', I found this warning event ID 1083 (Source NTDS Replication):
Active Directory could not update the following object with changes received from the domain controller at the following network address because Active Directory was busy processing information.
Object:CN=<an user name>, CN=Users, DC=DOMAIN
Usually followed by an information event (eventid 1955) which says:
ctive Directory encountered a write conflict when applying replicated changes to the following object.
Object:
<SAME USER OBJECT THAN PREVIOUS EVENT ID>
Time in seconds:
0
Event log entries preceding this entry will indicate whether or not the update was accepted.
A write conflict can be caused by simultaneous changes to the same object or simultaneous changes to other objects that have attributes referencing this object. This commonly occurs when the object represents a large group with many members, and the functional level of the forest is set to Windows 2000. This conflict triggered additional retries of the update. If the system appears slow, it could be because replication of these changes is occurring.
User Action
Use smaller groups for this operation or raise the functional level to Windows Server 2003.
And having as result that user being blocked in domain.
2) I've added a new print server based on Windows Server 2012R2 (running inside an updated ESX 5.5 with VMXNET3 ethernet adapter as recommended by vmware), and seen in the event viewer these warnings/errors:
At System log:
Error Event ID 5783, Source NETLOGON:
The session setup to the Windows NT or Windows 2000 Domain Controller \\DC-DOMAIN-2.fulldns.name for the domain DOMAIN is not responsive. The current RPC call from Netlogon on \\PRINTSERVER to \\DC-DOMAIN-2.fulldns.name has been cancelled.
I've seen Event ID 5783 with DC-DOMAIN-1 too....
Error Event ID 5719, Source NETLOGON:
This computer was not able to set up a secure session with a domain controller in domain DOMAIN due to the following:
The remote procedure call failed and did not execute.
This may lead to authentication problems. Make sure that
this computer is connected to the network. If the problem persists, please contact your domain administrator.
ADDITIONAL INFO:
If this computer is a domain controller for the specified domain, it sets up the secure session to the primary domain controller emulator in the specified domain. Otherwise, this computer sets up the secure session to any domain controller in the specified domain.
At Microsoft-Windows-TerminalServices-RemoteConnectinoManager/Admin found also this warning:
Warning Event ID 20499 Source TerminalServices-RemoteConnectionManager:
Remote Desktop Services has taken too long to load the user configuration from server \\DC-DOMAIN-2.fulldns.name for user administrator
3) If I try Group Policy Modeling on DC-DOMAIN-1 (server 2008R2), everything works fine, no matter if I try it against DC-DOMAIN-1 or DC-DOMAIN-2, but if I try this from the Server 2012R2 (the one from point 2), I get this:
Simulation against DC-DOMAIN-2: Gets executed, but all GPO show as inaccessible, empty or disabled.
Simulation against DC-DOMAIN-1: Sometimes it gets executed as DC-DOMAIN-2, sometimes I get an error saying query can't be executed.
4) From server 2012R2, I usually manage printing GPO. If I click on the domain root (GPMC, forest, Domains, DOMAIN-NAME-ROOT) right pane, I get a pop up saying:
'A processing error ocurred collecting data using this base domain controller. Please change the base domain controller and try again'
After closing popup, right pane says something like 'DC-DOMAIN-2.fulldns.name' is the baseline domain controller for this domain.
No infrastructure Status information exists for this domain.
Click the Detect Now button below to gather infrastructure status from all of the domain controllers in this domain.
Pressing 'Detect Now' does nothing, and trying to select New Baseline DC shows again same pop up than before.
5) Last, but not least, I've feeling that GPO takes too much to apply. I've found scenarios in which even after executing 'gpupdate /force' correctly on client computer either local or domain admin, I can't see the new changes (gpresult says it has been
updated though). But couldn't find anything on eventlog that informs about problems with GPOs...
For all these strange behaviours I've noticed in last month that I started checking things as sys admin, I believe domain is damaged, or something is wrong there (not just my new server 2012R2, even if it's running inside an ESX, blehh), so please, any hint
on what to check, what to change, what to fix, would be highly appreciated.

Honestly, I'm still trying to figure out all broken things reported by tests :( Guess Jesper's suggestion about adding a new 2008 DC to get rid of 2003 and start checking again after that may be best option.
I'll try to summarize list of things I believe are wrong:
running
DCDIAG /V /C /D /E /s:yourdcname > c:\dcdiag.log for every DC, shows different errors. They show things such as:
another domain running here (not administered by us, only relationship is that our users are shared with that domain, nothing else) appear when Printing out pDsInfo (as if they were DC of our domain too, but they do not even share RootDomain). Guess it
may be for a bug old sys admin had when clonning from his 2008R2 template, that forgot to change SID... I already noticed 1 year ago our print server shared SID with those DC, guess there may be more servers sharing SID too :-(
Within Starting test: Replications, I see few messages at Replication Latency Check, such as the one for CN=Schema, CN=Configuration, DC=<ourdomain>:
Latency information for 35 entries in the vector were ignored.
35 were retired Invocations. 0 were either: read-only replicas and are not verifiably latent, or dc's no longer replicating this nc. 0 had no latency information (Win2K DC)
On Services test, I see an
Invalid service type: RpcSs on DC-DOMAIN-3, current value
WIN32_OWN_PROCESS, expected value WIN32_SHARE_PROCESS
On SystemLog, I see LOTS of warnings/errors such as:
A warning event occurred. EventID: 0x80000002
Time Generated: 07/28/2014 08:21:54
(Event String (event log = System) could not be retrieved, error
0x503)
An error event occurred. EventID: 0xC0000003
Time Generated: 07/28/2014 08:22:18

Missing entries on DNS (we've a static DNS)
netdiag.exe /v > c:\netdiag.log Showed again DNS problems such as our primary DNS pointing to all DC, secondary
DNS pointing just to DC with FSMO roles,...
repadmin.exe /showrepl * /verbose /all /intersite > c:\repl.txt Gave no errors, now I must check in detail
if every replica is correct
And finally,
dnslint /ad /s "ip address of your dc" gave more DNS problems:
One or more DNS servers may not be authoritative for the domain
One or more DNS servers did not respond to UDP queries
One or more zone files may have expired
SOA record data was unavailable and/or missing on one or more DNS servers
Sumarizing, guess it will be better to fix DNS problems, promote new 2008R2 DC to get rid of 2003 one, promote domain to 2008 too, check again for messages and relationship with other domain, and then come back here for support if needed
EDIT: Almost forgot to talk about SYSVOL folder. As said before, there are 426 GPO folders inside Policies. Of them, 375 have an inetres.adm files in it (smallest one 1398 KB, almost all of them 2307 or 2707 kb)....

Populate List from Database (Very Strange Behaviour)

Dear Fellows,
I have developed a from which has two lists One for Major (say) and Other for Minor (say), thesr minors are based on the value of Major.
Now I have developed this system on Windows XP Professional, Developer/2000 6i and Oracle 8i (release 8.1.7).
Major list is populated from database and it shows all major values now using 'when_list_change' trigger the minor list is populated from the database based on the value of major list. Interestingly enough it is working fine without any problem.
Now I have deployed the software to Windows 2000 Professional/Server (tried on both), Developer/2000 6i and Oracle 8.0.5, but strangly the lists are not working now. First list (major) is still working but the other dependent lists are not working.
Another strange thing is that it populate the second list for one particular value (only at times).
The logic is that I have used a program unit to which i am passing 'list element' and 'query' and call it for each list in the when-list-change trigge.
Now its a very strange behaviour, I don't know what to do?

I have a parent-child-grandchild report which show's some really strange behaviour.
The data template has 3 queries Q1, Q2 and Q3.
Q2 is bound to Q1 using a bind variable
Q3 is bound to Q2 using another bind variable
For a certain record in Q1 the output should be
2 records in Q2
and 1 record in Q3 for each record in Q2
Q1 record
Q2 record A
Q3 record AA
Q2 record B
Q3 record BC
The results conforms to the expected output.
For another record in Q1 the output should be
2 records in Q2
and 2 records in Q3 for each record in Q2

Q3 record BD
In stead of the expected output, the result shows

CO-PA transport error, data element missing

We had a error when transporting CO-PA to Q&A because one of the value fields data elements doesn't have a object directory entry (package) assigned, and wasn't included in the transport.RKE2_VV016 doesn't have one, RKE2_VV015 has it, and don't know why this happened.
Any clue on how to generate the directory entry?

Table buffer for TADIR wasn't consistent with the SQL content. Strange. Refreshed the table buffer and the transport was correctly generated.
