Triple Tool, Two Too Many

This problem started a few weeks ago.  I'm getting three crop icons in a row, not well-defined, can't tell which one actually impacts the cropping.  This is also happening with other tools, including the eyedropper, paint bucket, lasso ... and sometimes the tool is fine outside of the image but inside of the image it triples and goes fuzzy.  Happens on both attached monitors.
Changing screen resolution does not help, nor does rebooting or walking away swearing.  Please help!?

Change the OS cursor scaling back to 100% - it doesn't scale cursors correctly, resulting in the 3 copies you see.

  • Spot Removal Tool: Waaaaay Too Many Mouse Tracks

    LR4, Mac OS 10.6: When using the spot removal tool, it adds to the history each and every mouse intermediate position, even ones during the time the mouse button was held down. LR3 did not do this, and in addition (possibly for the same reason), LR3 was a whole lot smoother mousing. Right now, all this extra history makes history pretty much useless. Is this a bug, or (shudder) is this intentional? Regardless, will it get fixed? Or, is it somehow me? Is this some sort of bizarre preference setting?

    i have this problem, too. very aggravating for so many reasons.
    i use LR4.1, imac i7, 8gb, lion 10.7.3 and i often have literally a hundred mouse entries in the history panel.

    tornado2003,
    What you need to do is boot into Safe Mode. Then delete the VGA Drivers.
    After that boot normally and install the latest nVidia ForceWare Drivers

  • Access 2010 table has too many fields for web database - how to split into two web-compatible tables?

    Hello,
    I'm in the process of converting an Access 2010 database into a web database and I'm having some trouble. I have a table which has 236 fields, which is more than the 220 field limit for web-compatible tables. I have tried to split this table into two tables
    with a one-to-one relationship, but web tables can only use lookups as relationships. I've tried to connect the tables with a lookup and then synthesize a one-to-one relationship by using data macros but I'm not having much luck.
    I realize that 236 fields is a lot, but it must be set up this way because each field represents a tasks and is a yes/no box to verify that the task has been completed - and the records are different employees for whom which the tasks need to be completed.
    Could someone please help me figure out a way to make this table web compatible?
    Thank you,
    Ryan

  • We have about 5 devices in our family.  My daughter's and mine don't work anymore, ostensibly because we have "too many". It has been so long since I loaded them in, I don't remember how I registered them.  What can I do to reactivate IPOD, SHUFFLE, ETC.

    We have about five devices in our family which have been deactivated.  It has been so long since I registered them -years- and I don't recall  how I did it.  For instance, my daughter's IPod from when she was young doesn't work and neither does her IPod Nano.  She can't get any of her music.  My Shuffle doesn't work.  I am embarrassed that I feel like having Apple products is too complicated for me.  I can barely get through all the levels of logging in, let alone how to make the devices work again.  Somewhere along the way I seem to remember getting a message that we had too many devices on our account.  Which account?  I have given up on this so many times and now it is years later and I am trying again.  How can I get some meaningful customer service to use the products and music I bought and paid for?

    I think in previous incarnations, people would have jumped all over you for your approach, but the Lion operating has generated decidely mixed or even negative reviews from users. So no one seems to disagree with you. I think many folks are simply staying with 10.6 and waiting to see if OS 10.8 is better than 10.7.  I've mostly avoided upgrading OS's, or when I do I jump over one version completely because I've waited long enough that I'm two versions behind.
    Here are the things that will/would motivate me to update the OS:
    * incompatibility with MS-Office (I'm not a MS-Office fan but I do need to use it)
    * incompatibility with flash or other tools needed to view modern web content (this might be a while as I am still using several different Macs, the oldest being a 2005 PPC iMac with 10.5.8 and an fairly old/outdated flash, but it seems to still do ok with most web content). Our 2008 Intel Core 2 Duo iMac runs 10.6.8 and can do just about anything we need -- like you, I decided not to go to Lion because it didn't look like much of an improvement.
    * incompatibility with various commercial software, such as TurboTax, or with web sites I use to manage financial accounts and such things
    We got my daughter a new Macbook Air just before she started college, and Lion plus a new Macbook Air model came out a month later. I am glad now about it actually, I think some of the Lion "issues" would have annoyed her greatly (especially the odd dropping of wireless access points under Lion, everyone is on wireless at colleges now). I'm hoping that the 10.8 OS will be better than Lion. We had (probably still have) a certificate for a free Lion upgrade but we decided not to use it.

  • Too many partitions in my W530?

    This may look like a silly question and I fully admit that it might be it... But I have been unable to find a way to get rid of some apparently unuseful partitions in my SSD. I am attaching two images (see below) for clarity.
    In image 1, I can see only two partitions, C: and Q: and there are also listed three other "Devices with Removable Storage": the DVD RW drive (D: ), the Removable Disk (F: ) and the Removable Disk (G: ). I tried to get rid of these last two (F: and G: ) but could not figure out how to achieve it. Not that their presence is a problem, just for cleaning purposes, as I do not see any need for them to be listed there. I don't even fathom what they may actually represent.
    In image 2, taken from the Acronis True Image backup app, besides the same C: and Q: partitions, I also see a System_drv and an unamed partition that are not listed in the Windows-7 figure. The Unamed Partition, by the way, is always empty but I was discouraged in the past to just get rid of it. I wonder if I should, having received conflicting advice on whether or not to do it.
    My question is: How can I eliminate the Removable Disks F: and G: as shown in the Windows figure and would it be a good idea to get rid of the Unamed partition as shown in the Acronis figure.
    All help will be very much appreciated.
    Thanks.

    If you were to install Win7 from scratch on a brand new empty drive (spinner or SSD, doesn't matter) and not change anything from the standard default installation options, you'd get TWO partitions:
    (1) un-lettered "system reserved" 100MB, where Boot Manager (and boot menu, presented if you were to install a second or subsequent bootable OS after installing Win7 as the first bootable OS) is placed.  This is also marked as the ACTIVE partition, so that the BIOS goes here to start the actual boot process.
    (2) C-partition for the rest of the drive.  This is where Windows itself gets installed, as a "system" drive.
    In the case of Lenovo-provided machines, they have installed additional recovery tools, which are placed into that small un-lettered partition normally referred to as "system reserved" and only 100MB.  Lenovo has enlarged the partition from the standard 100MB to about 1.5GB, but it's functionally identical in purpose.  Also, it's been labeled "SYSTEM_DRV", rather than "System Reserved", but this is of no relevance.
    And Lenovo's also added that additional Q-partition, which is where the "data" for system recovery is placed, in the event you needed to or wanted to restore your machine to initial factory state, exactly as it looked when it first came out of the box.
    So... what's critical here is that standard Windows7 requires the TWO partitions: (1) ACTIVE partition, where Boot Manager and boot menu lives and where the BIOS goes to start the boot process on what is configured as the first hard drive in the boot sequence, and (2) C-partition because that is specified as the one-and-only bootable OS partition according to the default one-OS boot menu built by the Win7 installer and subsequently examined by Boot Manager at boot time.  Since by default there is only one bootable OS you will not be presented with the boot menu, but instead Boot Manager will simply use that one-and-only OS and start it.  If you had two or more bootable OS's, you'd get a boot list presented onscreen by Boot Manager, and you'd need to select which one to boot from within say 10 seconds else the default OS would automatically be booted.
    Any "system image" backup requires BOTH of the above partitions to be checked, since [at least theoretically] BOTH of them need to be backed up and/or restored in tandem should you need to recover from a disaster.  By backing and restoring BOTH, you guarantee a 100% working operating environment should you need to recover from a disaster.
    Now the Q partition can be deleted (and its space re-allocated to either expand C, or perhaps in conjunction with shrinking the generally much too large C can be used to allocate one or more additional "data" partitions D, E, etc.) if you will NEVER need to or want to recover back to Lenovo's "factory-provided" out-of-the-box system setup.  This could be the case if you use an alternative method for disaster recovery, such as using Macrium Reflect to take regular periodic (say once a week) "system image" backups, say to an external USB 3.0 drive.
    So you could use Macrium Reflect to take an initial "system image" backup, which would effectively be your equivalent of the Lenovo-provided Q partition content, although you wouldn't need Q if you had to restore the Macrium "system image" backup.  And then you'd just establish a weekly regime of further "system image" backups using Macrium, as your ongoing regular protection from a loss of Windows integrity which required some kind of restore to a prior working system.  In this case it would be no older than last week's backup.
    If you needed more current protection, just take more frequent "system image" backups (if you only have a C partition), or add a second backup tool like NovaBACKUP to take monthly/daily "data" backups (also to the external USB 3.0 drive).
    ==> You don't have "too many partitions".  But the above description explains why you have what you have, and confirms that you can blow away Q if you have an alternative and superior backup/recovery method (such as Macrium Reflect) in case of a disaster.

  • JspSmartUpload  uploading too many files

    Has anyone else had a problem with too many files being uploaded?
    My code is as follows:
    <FORM NAME="frmAddDoc" ACTION="process_add.jsp" METHOD="post" ENCTYPE="multipart/form-data">
    <%@ include file="attachments.html"%>
    and attachments.html code specifies two files to be uploaded as follows:

    <TD><INPUT TYPE="File" NAME="sourceDocFileName" SIZE="12" CLASS="fileField"></TD>
    <TD><IMG SRC="../shared/images/shim_trans.gif"></TD>

    <TD><INPUT TYPE="File" NAME="docFileName" SIZE="12" CLASS="fileField"></TD>
    <TD><IMG SRC="../shared/images/shim_trans.gif"></TD>
    </TR>
    In process_add.jsp there is a call to the UploadBean.upload method which is as follows:
    public UploadResult upload(PageContext pageContext, String CSVFileTypesAllowed)
    StringBuffer statusMsg = new StringBuffer();
    int uploadedFilesCount = 0;
    // Upload initialization
    uploadHelper.initialize(pageContext);
    uploadHelper.setAllowedFilesList(CSVFileTypesAllowed);
    uploadHelper.upload();
    uploadedFilesCount = uploadHelper.save(uploadTempDir, uploadHelper.SAVE_PHYSICAL);
    return uploadResult;
    This works most of the time but occasionally four files are uploaded instead of two (i.e. uploadedFilesCount and uploadedFiles.getCount() are both 4 when they should be 2).
    (UploadHelper = new SmartUpload)
    Has anybody any ideas what could be causing this?
    I having been chasing this "bug" for a week now and it has me beat
    Can anybody help?
    Thanks

    Hi
    Try looking for the jspSmartUpload documentation, nobody here or atleast 98 % of the people do not use these third party tools. But rather develop them on their own. So it might be difficult for you to get an answer for your post.

  • Too many widget toolkits?

    Do we have too many widget toolkits (GTK, Qt, etc.)?
    In the context of the KISS principle (I like the pythonic interpretation - "There should be one[-- and preferably only one --]obvious way to do it" ), it might be violating the DRY rule and the abstraction principle. On the other hand, it's always good to have choice. Again, in the context of the KISS principle, another toolkit should not be created unless it is necessary. Sometimes too many choices leads to the choice paradox and information overload; we have too many choices for our own good, The answer, depends on what perspective you take...
    From the Linux enduser's point of view, they all output the same widgets for the most part (and the dev's viewpoint). The problem for the enduser is they are somewhat forced to choose one if they desire a consistent look. To make matters worse, if they choose one, they may miss out on a program because there is no corresponding GUI.
    From the developer's point of view is where the differences are more striking for reasons I'll mention. Qt is developed in C++ and GTK uses C (+GObjects). Qt is an entire application framework. GTK seems to be heading that way - tighter integration with the DE (or bloat...). This is where FLTK and FOX Toolkit come in. However, FLTK and Tk lack advanced widgets. wxWidgets focuses on native widgets. The cross-platform availabilty varies. Then there's freeglut, GNUstep, and so on. Finally, somewhat related, Ubuntu's Unity.
    Using their similarities, is there some way we can form a common abstraction layer/interface/framework?
    To kind of pull out the abstraction, leaving only the differences needing to be implemented. I think of the way we embrace Linux and the X Windowing System (Wayland is stirring things up) or are we not at that stage yet (no "obvious" solution)? There is the freedesktop organization but it seems limited to protocols. If not cross-platform, at least a common framework on Linux? Not one to rule them all, but one to lead them all.
    The underlying issue seems to be that the developers' needs are outweighing the endusers' needs. It's no surprise as UNIX/Linux was developed by developers for developers. Fortunately, as the Linux userbase grows, the enduser is taken more into consideration, like with Ubuntu and VALVE's rejection of Windows 8. It's like two devs arguing in a room over xyz is better, when the enduser walks in and makes the answer obvious, before they can go fork it. This idea of balancing out the endusers and developers' needs, could easily apply to other Linux issues, such as the Linux Desktop, the ever growing number of distributions, package managers, WM/DEs, etc. especially the WM/DEs which from the enduser's POV varies in terms of their integration with other software and services. If Linux was able to unite, it would dominate! Currently, FOSS/Linux's greatest strength is being used as it's biggest weakness If only it could turn fragmentation into modularity.
    I ask all of this because I may be potentially creating another toolkit, thereby altering the already crowded toolkit ecosystem, though it may be able to bring balance to the force...;)

    What is it to the end user, that makes working with different toolkits difficult? It is themes as well as component behavior. While I was never really troubled by the fact, that GTK and Qt do not respect each others settings (especially: "Text below/next to/instead of icons"), the most annoying thing about those toolkits is the lack of unified themes. I am aware of the fact, that the themes are not even a standardized thing inside one toolkit, as different themes use different engines.
    I would not mind if the following happened:
    1.1 One tool to configure them all. A script, that knows all about those toolkits, like position of config files and equivalent settings for the same phenotypes.
    1.2 Since we're all about -kits these days, I had a look at packagekit and was surprised about the pacman (or libalpm?) support. How about a toolkitkit?
    2. A common theme file type. Since most elements of such a theme package are descriptor files, it should not be too hard to interconnect the equivalent lines over the different toolkits. Qt, in fact, already does this, by being able to import the GTK settings. This could be another part of, err, toolkitkit.
    3. People should abandon toolkits, that are tied too closely to desktop environments. The number of times I read "change in GTK broke XYZ" over the past two years, for example, is alarming.
    I thought I mentioned it in the OP, but mainly getting a consistent look besides Qt/GTK, and the availability of programs.
    1. Packagekit, if only it supported the AUR, but I like the idea. That's another issue. It seems to me that the main differences among the package managers are 1) source vs binary 2) dependency handling 3) release cycle 4) configurability like make flags. And as a result, varying levels of repo size and program availability. I like pacman because you get the best of all features, although #2 for example, Slackware users would not agree with automatic dependency resolution.
    2. Getting the devs of each toolkit to support the others would take some convincing.
    3. I agree, although I see why they are tied to desktop environments - because endusers want that consistency. I think that's good but being implemented inefficiently, leading to bloat. Ofc, as you mention, the interdependency means when one thing breaks, everything breaks. What should be included, should be absolutely necessary, but needs are somewhat subjective. Like does the user need all those features? It's always a delicate balance. Linux's availability on so many platforms is a good example of this. Imagine if Xorg had been merged into the Kernel?
    Redundancy can be beneficial but in this case it's detrimental. All the toolkit devs are reimplementing the same thing over and over; you could say this about distros - reconfigurations of the same software - such small differences yet an entire distro must be created each time. If there were a more convenient way, wouldn't the person have done it? The purpose of toolkits was so that the developer did not have to manually draw the widgets and event handling etc. We solved that issue but now we have another issue..redundancy at the toolkit level.

    It's even more simple to have zero.
    Toolkits serve a purpose when one wants a fancy gui.  But I am driven mad by all the programs that use a toolkit just to say they did when they have no clear need for them.  They serve only as a banner of support for one of the "brands": the K brand, or the G brand.  All the while Xlib would have done everything they needed just fine.
    The problem isn't reinventing the wheel, the problem is buying a shiny new sports car when all one really needs is a wheel.
    This reminds me of something I read, unfortunately I can't find it right now but it's like your ability to not use a GUI determines your hardcoreness lol. Geek culture...flex your intellectual muscle haha
    Well, if you were only going a short distance a wheel might suffice...lol

    Here are some of my thoughts:
    A couple years ago when I was ready to write my first GUI application, I was frustrated by all of the different and competing GUI toolkits. I decided I was going to use the native X GUI (I can't remember what it's called). Then I looked at the API, and decided to write a GUI application for the Haiku operating system instead. Also, the nice default Haiku API has pretty much been stable for, like, 15 years now.
    Using a high level toolkit, such as wxWidgets, that interacts with many different other toolkits is nice, but comes at the cost of only having the option to use the lowst common denominator. Any type of special widgets are kind of hard to make.
    I recently decided to stop worrying and love the different toolkits. I don't care about having more packages installed or that each application looks a little different, as long as it's well written and does what I want. Also, I think people used to complain that applications on Linux look less consistent than they do on Windows or Mac OS X. I think anyone who thinks that needs to take a step back and look again. All computers look like a mess!
    KCE wrote:I ask all of this because I may be potentially creating another toolkit, thereby altering the already crowded toolkit ecosystem
    BURN HIM!
    I agree about having all the different toolkits but there must be a more efficient way of implementing them - providing more consistency but allowing variation. Maybe I'm wrong...I think awebb had a good point about a common theme file, that'd be a small step in the right direction, but I guess GUIs are too independent.

  • Router connection problems - DISH satellite receivers or too many devices?

    (Sorry about that - I thought I had broken the message up.)
    I'm having significant issues with my Linksys router timing out, and need help. I'll try to be as detailed as I can.
    I have the following:
    - Linksys WRT54G v3 wireless router I purchased off eBay 3-4 years ago. Using 128-bit WEP secirity. Even though the model says WRT54G, my Linksys setup page says I have a WRT54GL. Don't know if that's pertinent but thought I'd include the info)
    - HP desktop running Vista Home Premium
    - Gateway Solo laptop (circa 3Q 2002) running WinXP SP3, and also have WPC54G - Wireless-G Notebook Adapter
    - Gateway M275 Notebook running Windows XP Tablet Edition w/SP3, internal wireless card
    - Linksys WRE54G Wireless Range Expander, v3
    My broadband internet connects to my cable modem, which then runs via ethernet to my router. I have my desktop connected to my router via (wired) ethernet cable (port 1), and the two laptops connect wirelessly. All three computers on my network run just fine and have had no connection issues until I had two (2) DISH satellite receivers installed this past Friday.
    Prior to installation, I knew I would need the two receivers hooked up to my network via ethernet cable. Since one receiver was in the same room as my router, it was easy to run an ethernet cable from my router to the receiver (port 2). I had a challenge with the upstairs receiver, because I didn't have a direct connection, and wasn't sure how to wire it. So, I used my range expander by plugging in the expander into a nearby outlet, then connecting the receiver to the expander via ethernet cable.
    I had some issues getting a good signal, and did some troubleshooting but made it work. Now I had five devices connected to my router: two with a wired ethernet cable and three wirelessly.
    I started having connection timeouts within about 3-4 hours of satellite [receiver] installation. All of the sudden I couldn't connect to the internet on ANY device; both laptops couldn't connect wirelessly, my desktop couldn't connect, and the receivers were telling me my connection was bad. I checked modem but there were no issues. Still, I unplugged the power cable from the modem for a minute, then reconnected - still no internet. I called my cable company to have them troubleshoot the modem, but they pinged it several times & got positive results - still no internet, so I ruled the modem out.
    I tried using the Windows connection troubleshooter to repair the problem, and got a DNS error message (which I don't know how to fix). I decided to unplug my router for 10-15 seconds, then plug back in - that got my internet connection going again. That lasted a couple hours & then failed. I unplugged the router again (is that a soft reset or a power cycle?), then reconnected & was able to connect to the internet. This happened a few more times over the weekend, and finally I decided the expander might be the issue (both DISH and Linksys tech support was not very helpful).
    I found a way to wire my second receiver via ethernet cable (port 3), so now I had three wired devices, and two wireless devices. I thought this would fix the problem; it didn't, but at least I learned how to wire CAT5 cable. So I got that going for me... which is nice.
    I plugged the ethernet cable directly from my modem to my desktop to test the timeout, but had no issues - the modem just wasn't the problem.
    I was getting some IP address conflicts on my Norton Inernet Security, so I uninstalled that from my desktop, disconnected the power from the modem, disconnected the power from the router, shut down all devices, reset the IP addresses on the receivers, deleted the wireless connection from the laptops, shut down the desktop, and just left the whole mess alone for half a day. Then I reinstalled the Norton Internet Security, connected my wired devices, plugged the modem in, plugged the router in, reset my security, connected wirelessly with my laptops.
    Within an hour my connection timed out.
    Trying to chat with tech support wasn't feasible, as my connection kept going out. A guy at work said I shoudl ping my IP address, and let it repeat until my connection goes out. So I unplugged the router and plugged it back in to get an internet connection, the opened a cmd prompt and typed
    ping 192.168.1.1 -t
    I left it alone for a few hours, and when I came back, my internet connection was down, but I was still getting active pings - no problems there.
    At this point I thought I had done everything except replacing my router (which I'm still tempted to do), but I called my broadband provider to see if there was anything they could do. One of the techs said I had too many devices connected to the internet, but I thought these routers were supposed to handle dozens of devices?
    I finally called Linksys Tech Support and had a conversation for 90 minutes. We went through all the steps of unplugging the the modem, router & all connected devices, resetting the router, etc, etc. The only thing different he did was had me change my security from WPA to 64-bit WEP, and added passwords for DNA1 and DNS 2 (same password for each).
    That was at 1:30am last night, and when I woke up to check my connection this morning, it was still connected. I have to check it again when I get home, but I'm wondering if I should just be prepared to get another router (and if so, any recommendations), or if there's something I'm still not doing that could resolve my issue - if I still have connection losses.
    Also, I'm concerned about the security thing. If changing from WEP 128 or WPA to WEP 64 fixed my problem, I'm not sure I feel completely protected from intrusion - isn't that pretty much the least amount of security I can have (without forgoing it altogether)??
    Finally, I've read a few threads suggesting possibly changing to static IP from DHCP; however, my satellite receiver installation documentation specifically advises against this for the receivers.
    Anyway, I would very much appreciate some help.

  • An embarrassment of riches - too many tablets! Should I consolidate and get an iPad Air?

    Currently I have the following tablets:
    - Nexus 7 2013 wifi only
    - iPad 2 32 GB wifi + cellular, but no longer in contract
    - iPad 1 wifi + cellular, no longer in contract
    - an extra iPad 1, also wifi + cellular, not in contract that I got for free for helping somebody with some computer stuff
    That same friend who gave me the iPad 1, wants to upgrade from his iPad 4th generation to an iPad Air, and he want to give me his 4th G iPad for free. It is a 64 GB wifi only model.
    The reason I never upgraded beyond the iPad 2 was because all the later models got thicker and heavier, and I thought my iPad 2 was already too heavy, which is why I got my Nexus 7. I hardly touch my iPad 2 these days. They are both within arm's reach, but the Nexus 7 is easier to hold, and allows voice input, which I often find convenient, and most of the time I reach for it. I like the voice input on my iPhone 5 too, and I feel like something is "missing" when I pick up my iPad 2. Plus it feels like it weighs a ton next to the Nexus 7.
    Well, anyway I have too many tablets. And soon I'll have the iPad 4th G. So I was thinking of selling the iPad 2, the two iPad 1s and the iPad 4 and getting an iPad Air, wifi + cellular with a data sharing plan with my iPhone 5. After all, compared to the iPad 2, the iPad Air is (1) lighter, (2) has Siri, (3) has a retina display, (4) has much better specs and (5) now the cellular model is universal, so if I take a trip to the U.S. it would be easier to use there.
    Yet there are things I now prefer about my Nexus 7 with Android 4.4 over iOS 7. Like it has better sharing features, the ability to send all kinds of attachments, more customization, better "hooks" into the UI from 3rd party apps, the ability to choose your own default mail apps and browsers. It seems just more flexible overall. And the Facebook app runs "smoother" than on my iPad 2.
    But I like iOS 7 too.
    I wonder if I would use an iPad Air any more than I do my iPad 2 since it is lighter than the recent iPads. The screen being larger might make reading magazines and news sites easier. And Siri is still better than the Android voice dictation in my opinion. Or will the weight and size actually keep driving me back to the Nexus 7?
    I guess I still haven't found the right place in my life for using a tablet for anything other than casual use. I don't want to get into a religious argument about whether tablets are production devices versus consumption devices, but basically I am in the camp that does not see them as true productivity devices. My iMac is for that.
    Conundrums, conundrums. I do have too many "devices" right now though. Within an arm's reach I can count 12 computers, tablets and phones all on wifi! Who needs that much stuff?!
    And if I do get the iPad Air, do I need 128 GB? The way they sell here in Japan, you don't put any cash down at all, and basically get an interest-free loan for 2 years. So "for just a few hundred yen more a month" you can go from the 32 GB model to the 64 GB model. And then "for just a few hundred yen more a month" you can go to the 128 GB model. It seems a waste not to get the 128 GB model. But in my current iPad 2 I only use a little more than half the current 32 GB.
    Decisions, decisions. Any thoughts?

    The weight is somewhat of an issue for me. I find the iPad 2 irritatingly heavy whenever I pick it up, and the iPad 4th generation is heavier even than my iPad 2.
    But for the amount I use it I could get used to that. That option is certainly the least headache, contract-wise, and I would avoid the ever-present possibility of dealing with AppleCare if something is "not perfect" (which it never is).
    I guess the only "practical" reason would be that I would be getting rid of all my iPads with a cellular option. So if I did make a trip to the U.S. in the spring, it would be harder to use the iPad 4. Here, in Japan, of course I could use the free tethering option on my iPhone 5.
    So I guess it is just the cellular option I'm giving up that is in the back of my mind.

  • Function error:  Too many records

    I have writing a function that needs to return the total count of a sql statement. It will divide two calculated columns to get an average. I have two versions. Version 1 compiled successfully and I am trying to either run it in Reports or in the database and call it. I get an error stating that the function returns too many records. I understand that is a rule for stored functions but how can I modify the code to get it return one value for each time it is called?
    Here is the main calculation. SUM(date1-date2) / (date1-date2) = Avg of Days
    version1:
    create or replace FUNCTION CALC_OVER_AGE
    RETURN NUMBER IS
    days_between NUMBER;
    days_over NUMBER;
    begin
    select (determination_dt - Filed_dt), SUM(determination_dt - Filed_dt) into days_between, days_over
    from w_all_cases_mv
    where (determination_dt - Filed_dt) > 60
    and ;
    return (days_between/days_over);
    END CALC_OVER_AGE;
    version2:
    CREATE OR REPLACE FUNCTION CALC_OVER_AGE (pCaseType VARCHAR2)
    RETURN PLS_INTEGER IS
    v_days_between W_ALL_CASES_MV.DAYS_BETWEEN%TYPE;
    v_total NUMBER;
    days_over NUMBER;
    i PLS_INTEGER;
    BEGIN
    SELECT COUNT(*)
    INTO i
    FROM tab
    WHERE case_type_cd = pCaseType
    AND determination_dt - Filed_dt > 60;
    IF i <> 0 THEN
    select SUM(determination_dt-Filed_dt), days_between
    into v_total, v_days_between
    from tab
    where determination_dt - Filed_dt > 60;
    RETURN v_total/v_days_between;
    ELSE
    RETURN 0;
    END IF;
    EXCEPTION
    WHEN OTHERS THEN
    RETURN 0;
    END CALC_OVER_AGE;

    Table Structure:
    WB_CASE_NR NUMBER(10)
    RESPONDENT_TYPE_CD VARCHAR2(10)
    INV_LOCAL_CASE_NR VARCHAR2(14)
    CASE_TYPE_CD VARCHAR2(10)
    FILED_DT DATE
    FINAL_DTRMNTN_DT DATE
    REPORTING_NR VARCHAR2(7)
    INVESTIGATOR_NAME VARCHAR2(22)
    OSHA_CD VARCHAR2(5)
    FEDERAL_STATE VARCHAR2(1)
    RESPONDENT_NM VARCHAR2(100)
    DAYS_BETWEEN NUMBER
    LAST_NM VARCHAR2(20)
    FIRST_NM VARCHAR2(20)
    DETERMINATION_DT DATE
    DETERMINATION_TYPE_CD VARCHAR2(2)
    FINAL_IND_CD VARCHAR2(1)
    DESCRIPTION VARCHAR2(400)
    DETERMINATION_ID NUMBER(10)
    ALLEGATION_CD VARCHAR2(1)
    ALGDESCRIPTION VARCHAR2(50)
    Output is for Reports, I am trying to get the last calculation, which is the Average Days. The reports is grouped on Case Types and has several bucket counts for each like this.
    Case Type Count All Completed Pending Over Age Avg Days
    A 5 3 4 2 15
    Z 10 7 6 3 30
    4 8 3 5 4 22
    To get the Avg Days, the Over Age calculation is used as well as the Days Between (Determination_Dt - Filed_Dt). That is the (date1-date2) example that I gave in my first post. So the calcuation would be the SUM(Days_Between) / Days_Between.

    You may have an unwanted extension that is modifying sites (or the toolbar area). Try this:
    Disable ALL nonessential or unrecognized extensions on the Add-ons page. Either:
    * Ctrl+Shift+a
    * orange Firefox button (or Tools menu) > Add-ons
    In the left column, click Extensions. Then, if in doubt, disable.
    Usually a link will appear above at least one disabled extension to restart Firefox. You can complete your work on the tab and click one of the links as the last step.
    Does that flush the tab?

  • Is it possible to have too many keyframes in one project in Premiere?

    Hi all,
    I'm using Premiere 6 on a Windows 7 ULT machine.
    Is it possible to have too many keyframes in one project in Premiere?
    I'm getting app crashes when I try to re-open a certain project in Premiere 6 and it seems that if that file has over 93 keyframes, then it will not re-open.  But I can re-open that exact same project file with 93 keyframes in it, no problem.
    But if I go any further and create any more keyframes than 93 in a new re-saved version of the exact same file, then that file will not re-open and I get an app crash... you can see screenshots of the two Windows app crash info panels below that I'm getting from three different bad Premiere project files that I've created so far.
    I've tested and tested what is going on here and this seems to be what is causing the bad files.  I've re-created the scenario and re-created files with over 93 keyframes from the same base project file that will still open... as soon as I get more than 93 keyframes in this file, then that newly saved file will not re-open after I close and try to re-open it.
    This is 75 keyframes in one still image clip, 14 keyframes in another still image clip and 2 keyframes each in two other still image clips in a single project file... that is the limit... if I create any more keyframes in the clip that has 75 keyframes, the new file will save and render, but it won't re-open once it has been closed.
    The two slightly different app crash info panels show, in the first one below,
    "Fault Module Name: StackHash_e98d"
    ... and the second one shows,
    "Fault Module Name: PREMINFO.dll"
    ... both messages with a little more different info in each one.  I get either of the two error info panels when trying to re-open all three bad files that I've created with over 93 keyframes in them.  That is, two of the files alternate between giveing "StackHash_e98d" and "PREMINFO.dll" when trying to open them and one of them always shows the "Fault Module Name: PREMINFO.dll" error.
    So even the error messages are inconsistent with two of the bad files.
    I've searched the internet for this error in association with Premiere and I've also searched on this forum and found nothing.  Can anyone shed any light on this?
    Thanks,
    digi

    Bill,
    Even though I figured out a work around, I was still interested to know if these file opening crashes are related to Virtual Memory.
    So on the topic of Virtual Memory... a few months ago I was troubleshooting a different problem in Premeire and I found this information...
    "To improve performance in Premiere Pro, adjust the size of the paging file to a maximum of twice the amount of installed RAM."
    Previous to that time three months ago or so, I had my Virtual Memory settings at the default automatic setting, but I tried setting my VM to twice the amount of installed RAM, and I've had it set that way ever since, just to make sure I'm optimizing the VM performance for Premiere and other apps.
    But that isn't making any difference in this case.  Today I also found information in a search that says to troubleshoot StackHash crashes, one should turn off "DEP" in the system settings for the application with the crash problem... according to the paragraph below, from the second post down by Chris on this tdistler.com page... http://tdistler.com/2009/04/10/stackhash-and-application-crashes-on-windows
    Even though this was written in 2009 with Windows Vista in mind, many things for Vista work in Windows 7... it says,
    "Here’s how 99 percent of Vista users can fix a StackHash failure. I’ll walk you through it step by step:
    Method A:
    1. Open your Start menu and click Control Panel
    2. Browse to “System Maintenance” then “System”
    3. In the left panel, select “Advanced System Settings” from the available links
    4. You should now see the System Properties Window, which will have three sections. The top section is labeled “Performance” and has a “Settings” button. Click this button.
    5. Select the “Data Execution Prevention” tab.
    6. Select the option which reads “Turn on DEP for all programs and services except those I select”
    7. Use the “Browse” button to locate the executable file for the application you were trying to start when you received the StackHash error, and click Open to add it to your exceptions list.
    8. Click Apply or OK to commit your changes."
    But I tried this and none of the three problem files that I encountered would open... I still got the StackHash_e98d or PREMINFO.dll crash errors.
    So anyway, I'm a ways past that in my project now, just continuing with more keyframes over the number of 78 in separate but identical still image clips... that allows me to successfully work with this project with as many keyframes as I need.
    Thanks again,
    digi

  • I'm trying to set up an iPad for work and the apple id I was trying to use came back expired. I set a new password and then it said it was invalid. Now I'm locked out for too many tries answering security questions that I don't remember setting up. Help!

    I seem to be stuck in apple ID ****. First the password was expired only two minutes after I finished setting up the account and then the new password was invalid.  I don't know what to try next but this is making me crazy.  And I'm locked out for eight hours for too many attempts at answering questions that I never set up in the first place. I don't know what gives but something is way off. I need to set up this iPad for work but I can't get past the login.

  • Operation Could Not Be Completed:  Too Many Open...

    I've had this error showing up a lot in the Safari 3.2 and 4.0 beta activity window when loading multiple tabs of pages with many images (usually gallery type pages or blogs with lots of thumbnails). The result is that some images or other elements like style sheets don't load, leading to the blue question mark, or messed up formatting. Unfortunately, the activity window can't be stretched wide enough to see the whole error, but in fact it's "Operation Could Not Be Completed: Too Many Open Files". The error "socket(PF_ROUTE) failed: Too many open files" shows up in the Console as well, at least with Safari 4. I had also experienced similar problems with "Operation Timed Out" errors as well.
    I've been pulling my hair out on this one, because it's rather inconsistent, not to mention annoying. You can usually get an individual page to load completely by refreshing it, but that kind of defeats the purpose of loading multiple tabs all at once. It's also less of a problem if more of those pages are already cached, but you never know for sure. Running your connection through a proxy also helps a bit, but not always.
    I found a fix, but it's actually not Safari's "fault" per se. The issue lies in the allowable number of open files per user process, which is set by the system's launchd process at boot time. Note that Safari is not entirely innocent, as FireFox doesn't have this problem. It Seems that Safari just tries to load everything all at once, whereas FireFox does a better job of managing its load requests. Anyway if you run the following command in Terminal:
    sudo launchctl limit
    the following list should show up (with perhaps slightly different values)
    cpu unlimited unlimited
    filesize unlimited unlimited
    data 6291456 unlimited
    stack 8388608 67104768
    core 0 unlimited
    rss unlimited unlimited
    memlock unlimited unlimited
    maxproc 200 532
    maxfiles 256 unlimited
    The second column is a "soft limit" and the third column is a "hard limit", though to be honest I'm not exactly sure what the difference entails. The image loading problem is caused by hitting the maxfiles limit of just 256 files. The solution is to change maxfiles to 4096/unlimited, and also change maxproc to 1000/2000 since it's pretty low as well. That sounds like a pretty big change, but OS X server is supposed to change them to numbers like this when services like Apache are enabled, and Apple even mentions how to change maxproc at http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1659
    To make these changes, run the following two commands in Terminal and restart the computer:
    echo "limit maxproc 1000 2000" | sudo tee -a /etc/launchd.conf
    echo "limit maxfiles 4096 unlimited" | sudo tee -a /etc/launchd.conf
    The commands add the two lines in quotes to the launchd.conf file in /etc/ (if no file exists yet, it creates it). That should clear up the loading issues. I haven't noticed any other problems with these increased numbers, but I'll report back if anything seems to go amiss. Hopefully this will be helpful to someone.

    I faced the same problem with an image gallery using css for image resizing. Thanks for the explanation.
