1 iPod, 2 Libraries

I have an iPod Video and I am running it on my user account on my PC. I have about $250 worth of songs on my library. On another user account (same computer, etc.) I downloaded about $25 worth of my favorite songs. I sorted them into a playlist. I want to get the contents from this playlist onto my iPod, but it says that it will have to erase all the current contents from my iPod in order to put things from this one on. Is there any way around this? I mean, I just spent $25 in songs, and it is a shame if I can't put them on my iPod.
Help is GREATLY appreciated!!!

Ok- there are a couple of things you can do.
#1. If all the songs you want to transfer to the correct library are Mp3 then you can copy them to a Mp3 Cd. Then simply insert the Cd and follow regular propaganda for importing a Cd into your library. If all the songs you want to transfer are not mp3 Go To Main Screen on itunes. Select 'Edit'. Go to 'Preferences'. Select 'Advanced'. Select 'Importing'.Change to 'Import Using: Mp3 encoder'. Select 'Burning'. Change to 'Mp3 CD'. Select 'Ok'. Highlight desired songs. Right click. 'Convert Selection to Mp3'. Then Burn CD. (Make sure you have an Mp3 CD.)
#2 You can purchase a program named transipod which allows you to take songs off of your ipod and put them onto your compture. The only problem is if you have songs with the same name it will only pick one of them for some reason... But if you had this program you could just add all of the songs that are already in your ipod to that other library, and just make it your main library. Or just sync it with the library you want to transfer. Add songs to other Library from ipod, then resync ipod to the Library you just put all the songs into.

  • Can I have multiple ipod libraries on one pc

Is it possible to have 3 separate ipod libraries on one pc? How is it done?

You can also use one library and sync each device with a different selection of playlists which might be an easier way to manage things.

  • Multiple iPods / libraries on one computer

Hi All and thanks in advance for any help you can give me.
Until recently I have had three ipods with three different libraries all managed through one computer running Windows XP. I accessed the different libraries by clicking onto iTunes and holding the shift key choosing the required library when the option came up.
I have now bought a new computer running Windows 7 and just can't seem to get the same system running. Basically I can get one library up and running but each time I create a second library and import that one it just overwrites the first library leaving only the second library available.
When opening iTunes in the same way (holding down shift) I get a clear option to 'Create new library' but this always seems to superseed the existing library rather than running seperately.
It's now driving me nuts so any help to solve the problem would be fantastic. Plain English answers would be greatlt appreciated as i'm certainly no expert in this field!
    Thanks again!

Wow guys, 276 responses, thanks to all.
Unfortunately with such a huge response I haven't been able to go through them all as yet but i'm sure somebody will have come up with the soltion I need.
    Thanks again.

  • How do I merge multiple ipod libraries on one laptop?

We have over 5 ipods in the family and need to sync all their content to one library on one laptop.  Every time I plug in an ipod to the laptop, it will only show that ipod's library.  I have tried to merge the libraries, but end up losing songs/apps/etc.  At present, for example, I can see many apps in the iTunes library, but they will not sync with the ipod that is plugged in.  Thanks for any help.

Only two ways currently - the latest versions of iPhoto and of Aperature (which can nopen current iPhoto libraries and can merge libraries) or the paid version of iPhoto Library Manager - http://www.fatcatsoftware.com/iplm/ -

  • Combining 4 iPods/libraries from different computers on 1 computer

I need help! My wife and I purchased 2 iPod minis some time ago, and I set hers up on her laptop. I set mine up on my work computer. Now our two children have an iPod mini and a nano. I want to move everything (all libraries/songs) to one central computer in our house, so we all can share the library. All music in our respective libraries is our own (off of CDs), and we haven't downloaded any songs. Again, I need to be able to have all 4 iPods hooked up to 1 library on 1 computer! Thanks for any help.

One way would be to use the actual iPods and remove the tracks from them to build one central iTunes. There are a number of third party utilities you can use to retrieve the files from your iPod. This is just a selection.
    YamiPod
    PodUtil
    PodPlayer
    iPodAgent
There is also a manual method of accessing the iPod's hard drive posted in this thread: iPod to iTunes
Keep your iPods in manual mode until you have reloaded your iTunes and you are happy with your playlists etc then it will be safe to return them to auto-sync if you wish.

  • Syncing IPOD Libraries

Is it possible to sync library files from a different IPOD that isn’t registered on my computer into my Itunes library? Is it possible to register two IPODS on two different computers? I tried syncing songs from a friend’s IPOD into my library; both IPODS are registered within ITUNES but registration is on different computers. I can see my friend’s IPOD and library but all the songs are grayed out and we cannot move libraries between the two IPODS.

The sync is intended to be one way...from computer to iPod. This is to defeat people copying someone else's music into their own library. (Because it's considered to be music piracy...in other words, theft).

  • Operate two iPod libraries on one computer

    Hi all
I am a very new iPod user. My sister uses the same computer (operating Windows XP) and has her library already set up. We all have separate user ids on the computer, but my mum plugged my iPod under the same user id as my sisters, now I cannot sync to my own library without erasing my sisters library. Can anyone help?

"now I cannot sync to my own library without erasing my sisters library. Can anyone help?"
You won't be erasing your sister's library. You will be erasing the songs from your iPod that were added when your Mum connected it to your sisters library by mistake. To re-link it to your own library and reload your own songs, log into your Windows account and choose "Erase & Sync" when iTunes tells you that your iPod is linked to a different library.

  • Mother-daughter ipod libraries on one computer

Can we set up two separate itunes accounts on the same computer? My daughter doesn't want all the great classic rock from the 70's and 80's. I told she was nuts.

Or you could keep all the music in one library and create playlists to organise what music goes on to each iPod. This can be done with the regular drag & drop playlists but I prefer to use smart playlists controlled by the grouping field. I have three kids and simply add one or more of their names into this field depending on who likes what. I then have smart playlists with the rule *Grouping contains Name* to create a playlist for their tracks and set the sync options accordingly.

  • IPod libraries not recognized as one

After downloading many songs, i downloaded more about a week later and when I connected my iPod to update it the message "the iPod is linked to another iTunes library. Do you want to chnage the link to this itunes music library and replace all other songs and playlists on this iPos with those from this library" appears. Naturally I said no. The iTech support people I called said i had to come to this website to get my answers, how helpful. Does anyone have any suggestions so that I can not lost the 500 songs on my iPod?

    Welcome to Apple Discussions!
Did you delete the songs after they were synced on the iPod? If so, then that is why the message is appearing.
Post back if those songs are not on your computer.

  • I want to merge two ipod libraries

My kids both got ipods for Christmas two years ago.  At first, they didn't care, but now they pretty much want the same music.  I want to add all the music my son has to my daughter's ipod and vice versa.  However, when I unplug her ipod and connect his, I'm informed that ipod can only sync to one itunes library.  So, how do I combine them?

    - You can can on sync with one computer/iTunes library
    - If you copied the songs from one computer to the other and then sync with the one syncing computer that should work.

  • Multiple iPods/libraries and syncing from one computer

I recently got an 80G Classic, since my 4G Nano was way too small. I now have 22G formy classic, but I have thought I might let my wife use the Nano. Is there any way to create a new user and library? I want to take a couple of the folders and playlists (the JOni, Norah, Emmylou etc. ) so when I sync the Nano it just syncs certain folders/playlists, but when I plug in my Classic, I want it to sync everything. I have Copytrans too, if that is a help.
Is this possible? Really complicated? How can I do it?
Thanks in advance for everyone's great support!

  • Need to erase HD and reinstall -  iphone/ipod libraries - how to backup?

Oh dear! I have found myself in a situation where I need to erase my HD I have managed to copy most things over to External HD for re install. I found it easier to copy the complete Music folder - will this suffice when I re install itunes? I am supposing it will but want to be sure before I erase - thank you. (Don't want to relay on time machine as I think the problem I have is buried in there too!)

    FYI:
You can simply reinstall 10.6 on top of 10.6 and everything (all your user data) will be fine.

  • Itunes messes with my libraries and songs when connected with ipod.

On my itunes when i move songs around to other libraires and such it wont add them to the library when it downloads to the ipod. When i make my libraires on the ipod and i connect my ipod to itunes it deletes everything i have made on the ipod and reverts back to the libraries on itunes. Basically if i want my ipod libraries set up the way i want i cant connect my ipod to itunes anymore. I also have a problem with itunes not being able to locate music files in my library folders after i move a few songs around or add mor songs or whatever. How do i get my itunes to leave the libraires the way i make them and not keep songs from transfering over to the ipod. Its actually ******* me off. its not that the songs arnt playable they just keep getting removed on their own. how can i set up my music files in a folder where itunes will resort to and not have any problems locating the files.

For anyone who hits this thread: Hit view, then "hide music in the cloud." Your libraries will return to how you have built them.
Kelly, your music is still probably on your hard drive. The iCloud is just a cute techy way of saying that you have online access to things you've purchased from apple... just wait until they make it so that you ONLY have online access to your purchases, and nothing ever comes "off" the cloud for you to tangibly own.
Folks, this is a smoke and mirrors gimmick to make you buy-in to the itunes store. Let Apple manage, deliver, and DECIDE all the content that you will see. It's at least one degree more insiduous than corporate radio.
Kudos on the crisp interface and larger album cover displays, but...
Apple cannot find cover art for 1/3 of the library that I have built. That is because Apple does not carry that music. Apple will never host music from ancient vinyl that I have remastered, Apple will never host the shows of obscure electronica djs or the local bluegrass bands that put out EPs in the western US in the 80s. If you restrict your music experience to a single venue, you are not only missing out, but you are supporting an economic model which quashes music that does "not meet industry standards." Have fun with iTunes 11 kids.

  • Accidently disconnected ipod without ejecting, now it only shows recent purchases. I can see 40 gig of original library but its listed as other not audio. Is this retrievable audio data or is it lost. I have no backup what can I do to restore my ipod?

I accidently disconected my ipod from my pc. When I plugged it back up  I only had limited access to my library. I had over 40gb of audio data that now when I go to the summary page of my pod it shows up as other, only the audio that I have recently purchased from itunes is accessible. Is the 40gb retrievable and can some one please tell me step by step what I need to do. My collection took over a year to put together and there is no backup file.

"Other" is the measure of used space on the iPod not taken up by Audio, Video & Photos. This includes the iPod's library and artwork plus any files you may have copied to your iPod in disk mode. The overhead for the library & artwork data is typically 1-2% of the size of the media, e.g. for 1Gb of Audio & Video expect to have around 15mb of "Other". This information is needed for the iPod's operation and cannot be removed.
If you have significantly larger amounts of "Other", not related to files you've intentionally placed on the iPod, then these are probably disconnected copies of your media files or iPod libraries left over from failed sync operations. The only way to recover the space is to do a full restore.
If you have copies of all your media in your iTunes library this isn't a problem, but if you've been manually managing the content then you might need to try to recover the files from it first. See this post by forum regular Zevoneer on transferring files from the iPod to your computer. Some of the tools rely on the iPod having a healthy library however the manual method mentioned towards the end of the post should work regardless.
