10.5.7 update messes up speech recogniton component of rosetta stone

I've been using Rosetta Stone for a while and there is a speech component to the program where, via the built in mic or a usb headset, you speak when prompted and the program analyzes your voice and tells you if your pronunciation is correct. With OS X 10.5.6 this particular component worked fine, but after installing the update the program now has a slower response time to my voice and more often than not incorrectly analyzes what I've said, requiring that I repeat each exercise about a half-dozen times before getting it right. I thought it was a problem with the program, but I was informed that this is an issue with version 10.5.7 and not Rosetta Stone, and that complaints have been spotted in forums having nothing to do with the Rosetta Stone software.
Could this be a bug with the update? If so, can someone direct me as to how to get a message to those responsible for correcting them. Thanks.

This problem may be related to the issue discussed in this thread.

The post by Rasti,
"OK, for the Extigy issue ... it seems I have found a workaround.
Go to /System/Library/Extensions. There is a kernel extension for USB Audio, named AppleUSBAudio.kext.
10.5.6 contains version 2.6.0b11 of that module.
The 10.5.7. upgrade installs a new version, 2.6.4b11. Using a time machine backup
from earlier today, I simply reinstalled the old module...."
may describe the same audio problem you are experiencing.
The solution is not trivial and there is no guarantee it will fix your issue, but it might.

    after lion 10.7.3 update messed my mac had to restore from time machine now Outlook won't connect with microsoft exchange, any idea?

    I've had a similar problem.  On my first boot up after installing 10.7.4,  Firefox would not open.  Crashed every time.  Safari was not affected.  I have no idea if it was related to the flash plugin, but I did install a the latest version of that a couple of weeks ago.
    Here's what fixed it: a second boot up.

  • Help the update messed up my PC as well msvcr80

    What do I do ?? Update messed up my PC I get error message MSVCR80 missing??? itunes will not open

    Actually, I've found if you are using Windows, there is something hinky going on in there. No surprise, it's Windows. If you unistall iTunes again as descibed here :http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1923  then go to the Apple site and download iTunes andsave the downloader file ( not run it from Internet Explorer), you then have a copy in your Downloads folder.
    Go to the Downloads folder and highlight the installer file, then right click and "Cut" the file out of Downloads.
    Then, find the root of your C: drive. In Vista and Win 7, you click on Start the go to Computer and click into the C: drive. Not sure where to do that in Win 8, probably have to find the File Explorer and look in there for "Computer".
    Paste the installer directly into the C: drive by clicking on an empty spot and selecting "Paste". You will need administaror privileges to do this.
    Once it is on the C: dirve and outside of stupid old Windows, the insatller will run properly and install all the files needed to make the program run like it is suppoded to.
    To avoid other issues with stupid old Windows, make you next computer purchase from Apple.

  • 7.0.2 update messed up my wifi

    7.0.2 update messed up my wifi how can I fix this? Or will I have to wait for new update?

    Just went through this, last night. It's a pain. I figured it out, by myself, since apple support told me it's not their problem.
    First, search your computer for music files. Hopefully, they are still in Media Player.
    When search ends, click 'select all' in 'file' dropdown.
    In 'edit', select copy to folder.
    Then, you have to dig and find the itunes folder. Click that.
    It should start showing the files flying from left to right. If it does, you're home free.
    The files from media player are in WMA format. They have to be converted to itunes format. itunes should tell you this.
    Click 'yes to all'. it will begin converting them and loading them into itunes. If you have alot of GBs, it can take a while. Be patient and watch the progress.
    I'm not PC scientist, or network person, but I figured this out, while apple support couldn't. Yay, for me.
    My stuff works OK, now. I'll stick around, though, and try to help others with this very frustrating problem with itunes. I really feel bad for all the innocent children (and their poor parents), staring at their new Christmas present that does not work.
    Good luck.

  • The ios6.1 update messed up my phone. How do I get the ios 6.0 back onto my phone?

    The update messed up my messaging and typing on my Phone. I want to get this off and put back on 6.0 how do I do it?

    Double tap the home button and bring up the multi-task bar. Hold down on one the apps until they all start to wiggle and display a minus sign. Tap the minus sign and close all of the apps. Tap the home button and close the multi-task bar. Reset the phone, hold the sleep/wake and home button together until you see the Apple logo and then release. After the phone restarts, see if you see the same behavior. If you do, the next step to restore from a backup. If that doesn't help, then restore as a new device. Use this support document to understand the restore process. http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1414
    If you have to go all the way through restore as a new device and it does not work, then it could be a hardware issue. I've not seen any other posts about screen issues after updates, so one of these should fix it unless there is a problem with the screen.

  • After the update, I no longer get email.  Says the network password has changed.  Sign in failure.  Funny, nothing has changed on my iPad or computer.  This is my second S5 because of updates messing up my email.  I am over it.  Sorry I switched from AT

    I am tired of updates messing up my email account.  I had to have my phone replaced because of the Samsung update, now I don't have email again because of the Verizon update.

    Hi Jonigh
    I'm so sorry to hear of the issues you are having with your email account on your device. What type of email account do you have? Have you tried removing and readding the email acct?

  • Is it possible to update only the Shared Install component?

    We are running MDM 7.1 with all components at 7.1.06.211.  We opened an OSS ticket due to an issue with CCMS monitoring and SAP told us to upgrade the MDM Shared Install component to at least 7.1.06.230.  We want to use sapinst --> update to apply the patch but cannot find a way to select only the shared install component.  Is the correct procedure to:
    1. In sapinst on the "Update - MDM Instances" screen, select  "Update all MDM instances of the SAP system" (MDS00, MDIS01, MDSS02)
    ...and then...
    2. In sapinst on the "Update - Content Archives" screen, extract only the shared.sar archive and deselect the others (mds.sar, mdis.sar, mdss.sar).
    Will this procedure update the shared installation component only and not the others?  Is this possible?  If not, will all of the other components have to be updated even though SAP said to update only the shared installation component?
    We have searched OSS and SDN but cannot find a clear explanation of how this should work.  Note 1481741 states that all components within the same SP level (e.g. 7.1.06.xx) are compatible and recommends upgrading only the component affected by the fix, which is what we want to do.
    Any help will be appreciated.
    Thanks and regards,
    WL

    Camoracer got it - my work computer has limited hardware/system resources. It can handle iTunes audio, but iTunes video slows it to a crawl and makes it so I can't get any work done. There are video podcasts I'd like to listen to at work, but can't for that reason. So I'd like to just play the audio stream from the podcast while disabling the video stream. The video portion isn't necessary anyway, it's usually just a talking head and not anymore informative than the audio portion alone.

  • 4.3.2 update messed up my ipod touch... same issues peple complained about with 4.3.1

    So the last update 4.3.1 that everyone complained about worked fine with my ipod touch... it was working great actually. Then I did the update for 4.3.2 and crash and burn... now I am having all the issues that people were complaining about with 4.3.1...
    Battery life is much shorter than before
    Cover art flow is messed up- most of the albums show up as a pixelated mess
    Photo library is messed up- the images do not line up in the grid and are all cut off or look like tiled multiple images
    When listening to music and the screen shows the full size cover art- the art shows up looking "tiled" not a full centered image.
    The screen is kind of glitchy, like it freezes up for a second before doing what it needs to do- for example when the lock screen is on and you unlock it it kind of has this delayed reaction before changing.
    Also, the combo of the update and the new itunes is totally screwed up... I am using windows 7 and can't decide if this is a weird windows issue or itunes and the ipod updates, but when I plug in the ipod to sync it will either wipe out all of my music and apps or will instantly freeze and I have to force quit. My back ups no longer work with the new updates, so I had to re-download all of my apps...  And when I can get itunes to work for a moment and I sync music the songs usually cut out randomly or skip- so to solve that I resorted to using media monkey- but this doesn't fix the artwork sync issues.
    Having spent several hundred dollars on an ipod, i expect this stuff to work!! and it would be great if it worked with the programs as intended, but maybe I have high expectations.
    Has anyone else had any of these problems? I am feeling like I might just have to suck it up and deal.

    Mine has been doing the exact same thing. It messes up even more with each stupid update they do. One thing that I have found helps is restoring my ipod.

    When I saw this, I decided to save the diffrent files that were conflicting, copy them in a zip file and run the following command
    sudo pacman -Syuf
    After a reboot, the language turned from French to English. Now that the system is in english there are some french characters that don't display correctly. But when I went on the ArchLinux website, I saw that we had to manually delete the files before updating (that's when I felt stupid a little bit..).
    But now that this is done, there may be other things buggy . First of all, I want to fix the language issue (it may be has to do with the fact that archlinux moved from initscript to systemd?). Then if anyone has any idea about what could have been messed up, let me know (and if you have a fix, I'd love to be whistled about that ).

    I think there's nothing new for me in what Tom posted. I already had the configuration set up in /etc/locale.conf.
    LANG=fr_CA.UTF-8
    LC_TIME=fr_CA.UTF-8
    However I noticed that when i shutdown my pc, some daemons fail to stop/execute themselves:
    - Crond [FAIL]
    - NetworkManger [FAIL]
    - SIGTERM to process [FAIL]
    - SIGKILL to process [FAIL]

    Did you read this part?
    This option should be used with care, ideally not at all.
    You just forced 80 updates at once. Don't do that. The fontconfig update has it's own news post: News: Fontconfig 2.10.1 update - manual intervention required.
    You should have read that.
    Hopefully Tom's post will help you fix your language problem. In the future, don't force anything unless you're explicitly told to via news post.
    I realize I shouldn't have done this, but it's by making errors you learn, isn't it? Now, Tom's post doesn't look useful since it seems it doesn't differ from my own configuration.
    There's actually a person who had a similar problem (I think) as we can see in Tom's post comments since he has this too:
    LANG=
    LC_CTYPE="POSIX"
    LC_NUMERIC="POSIX"
    LC_TIME="POSIX"
    LC_COLLATE="POSIX"
    LC_MONETARY="POSIX"
    LC_MESSAGES="POSIX"
    LC_PAPER="POSIX"
    LC_NAME="POSIX"
    LC_ADDRESS="POSIX"
    LC_TELEPHONE="POSIX"
    LC_MEASUREMENT="POSIX"
    LC_IDENTIFICATION="POSIX"
    LC_ALL=
    But his system is configured with systemd when my configuration is with initscripts... So the problem isn't solved yet!

  • Ipod update messed up video

    i just updated my ipod to 1.1
    before the update..my videos were running fine, i could watch a full length video without running into any problems.
    after the update..the ipod plays the video for about 30 sec then pauses and then resumes. Not only does it pause but it does not have any audio after..only video.

    Hello, the same thing it happened to me when I upgrade my firmware. you can download a software called ipodwizard and follow the tutorial on the link below... it will help you to downgrade firmware. it worked for me...someone in ipodwizard forum told that apple release that update before it was done...so they messed up with us... I've heard of more issues (backlight problems), anyway..try this if you want to:

  • Flash update messed up FF Add-ons and the Open New Tab button.

    FF told me that I needed to update Flash, so I said OK. Whereupon all of my FF Add-ons disappeared. Seems that FF needed to check with the mother ship to find out if everything were compatible with this new Flash update--but the mother ship was not available (this has happened several times).
    Why didn't FF check on the compatibility issues BEFORE getting the Flash update?!
    I will remove Flash (did this in the past, and the lost functionalities were no big deal). I will also change the settings on FF so that the program won't do this again. (I periodically go see about FF updates myself and try to sit on FF while the updates are being done.)
    BTW ... I had FF set to NO DOWNLOAD/UPDATE anything until/unless I have the OK. The past few weeks, I've gotten constant notes from FF telling me to get FF6.0. I was almost ready--but not quite ready--and yesterday FF updated itself. NO OK from me.
    As I type this, I've finally gotten all of my FF Add-ons and other mods back. And it looks like my bookmark tabs are all squared-away again, too. (The AddNewTab button completely disappeared.)
    So, this is no longer a question for you that could use an answer. Instead, I'd like you to pass my frustrations along to the development crew. I HATE the uncertainty/instability of my Firefox Add-ons and Stylish mods. (I'd rather just skip them.)
    I understand that the Add-ons are not the work of Mozilla (not like the browser program itself, anyway) and that the job of getting everything to work together must be insanely difficult. So I'm not wanting to complain about the compatibility hassles here--I'm complaining about the need to watch FF carefully to make sure FF doesn't jump up and do something that I don't want. That and the fact that I have to remember that FF will change my system BEFORE checking to see if it's going to make a mess for me.
    I only recently returned to Firefox and started using some of the Add-ons again. I love them. But I don't think I'll ever use more than 6 or so Add-ons because of the constant problems with updates like this mess today with Macropedia's Flash. The one thing I don't want in a browser is problems.
    Thanks for your attention here ...
    Jack

    I'm sorry to hear that you have so many issues. What version of Firefox were you using before?
    The double title bar issue has been identified as an issue with the Tax Mix Plus extension but it doesn't affect everyone, it's an interaction with something else (not exactly clear what, although Norton Toolbar was mentioned in one thread).
    There is a new version available that you could try. If Firefox is stable enough to do it...
    orange Firefox button (or Tools menu) > Add-ons > "gear" icon > Check for Updates
    If your beta version won't update, you could try installing [https://addons.mozilla.org/en-us/firefox/addon/tab-mix-plus/ from the add-ons site].
    More generally, could I suggest disabling as many extensions as you can live without for 24 hours, and re-enable them gradually? This should help isolate interactions between them. As you know, you can do that here:
    orange Firefox button (or Tools menu) > Add-ons > Extensions category
    Finally, regarding your old session, if you haven't closed Firefox, you might find a sessionstore.bak file in your profile folder that contains your old session. To easily access that folder, try
    Help > Troubleshooting Information > "Show Folder" button
    Grab a copy of that file and save it somewhere outside the folder because it is overwritten when you close Firefox. Got to run, but if you find one with an appropriate date, someone can help you restore it.

  • OTA update messes up Incredible

    We have three DINCs.  One of them got an OTA update on Sunday morning (1/3/11) that has messed up the phone.  It has the following issues:
    1) Many apps act as if they are being opened for the first time, EACH time they are opened, IF they open.
    2) Majority apps won't open, FORCE CLOSE.
    3) Handscent sends messages from the previous day when you power off and back on again, i.e. they seem to be stuck in the queue.
    Recommendations for next steps?
    Thanks in advance.

    My first choice is a battery pull, but I doubt that will correct it. But all three of your devices are showing the same thing. So I suspect a corrupt OTA download.
    I would say to next do a master reset, but if you have time for just one phone, delete the apps and reinstall and see if that clears up the issue.

  • Windows 8.1 update messed up premiere elements?

    I (unfortunately) updated to windows 8.1 yesterday, and my editor got messed up.
    I usually run windows 8.0 together with premiere elements 9.0 with no problems, but now the layout/graphics of the timeline is messed up everytime I drag a clip to it (you can't see the tracks,. instead it shows a zoomed in picture of the time-marker)
    When moving the mouse over that area I get lines on the timeline as well, and when moving around a few clips I have to zoom in and out to be able to see anything.
    does premiere elements 9.0 not work with windows 8.1? would it help upgrading to premiere elements 11/12 etc?

    TanjaSRJ
    Premiere Elements 9.0/9.0.1 works fine with Windows 8.1 64 bit. But, it will be a 32 bit application running in the 32 bit compatiblity mode of the 64 bit system.
    It is only Premiere Elements 10, 11, and 12 that are 64 bit applications running specifically in Windows 7, 8, or 8.1 64 bit.
    But your issue appears to be one of display problems. Are you running Premiere Elements 9 as the 9.0.1 Update? Version 9 was distinguished for its display issues more so than other versions. Please install the 9.0.1 Update if you have not already.
    The first line of troubleshooting is to assure that you have the latest version of the video card/graphics card driver according to the web site of the manufacturer of the card (or, if more appropriate, according to the web site of the manufacturer of the computer). If the driver is up to date, then delete the Premiere Elements 9.0/9.0.1 Bad Drivers.txt file.
    The Windows 8.1 64 bit path to it is
    Local Disk C
    Program Data
    Adobe
    Premiere Elements
    9.0
    and in the 9.0 Folder is the BadDrivers.txt file that you delete.
    After you close out of there and open a Premiere Elements project, the program will generate a new BadDrivers.txt file and hopefully the problem is gone.
    Be sure to be working with Folder Option Show Hidden Files, Folders, and Drives active so that you can see the complete path.
    The rationale behind the deletion of the BadDrivers.txt file is found in post 10 of this older thread on the subject
    http://forums.adobe.com/thread/732067
    The concept of the BadDrivers.txt file and its indication have been a life saver for many, even for those who have versions of Premiere Elements other than 9.0/9.0.1.
    Please review and then let us know the outcome.
    Thank you.

  • QuickTime updated messed up Safari !!!

    Yesterday I updated my QuickTime plugin. But now not only am I unable to view Flash plugin sites with Safari, but I'm also unable to view them with Firefox.
    I just get a big "Q" (QuickTime trademark) when I try to view a Flash etc. I'm really annoyed Apple are making updates that keep messing up computers. This never happened until 2 months ago. Does anyone know how I can fix this problem so I can continue view sites with Flash plugins.

    Reinstalling Flash plugin tends no to work.
    I got web browsers to show Flash based content again by removing one of the QuickTime plugins from the Internet-plugins folder.
    Thanks for the advice.
