10gR2 problems
Hello
I was previously working on OWB 9.2 and recently have joined a project which uses OWB 10gR2..
Now as i have started working on the same, i am getting a lot of issues in 10gR2 which i hadn't faced in 9.2 version...
One scenario is:
We were having some problems in our Development database, so we shut the database and restarted the same. As per the convention, the jobs that were running before shutting down of the database, should get killed and resources should be released. But that is not the case.. the jobs are still running and it hasn't relaesed any of the resources.
Second scenario is :
Whenever I login to Runtime Audit Browser to see audit details.. After refreshing any thing, the page again is thrown back to Login page or comes back on login page where in I have to give the login details again.
I just want to know what are the enhancements of 10gR2 over 9.2 versions and what are the drawbacks??
Thanks
There appear to be lots of errors involved.
gsdctl does not work because it switches the oracle home to db_1 but then calls db_1/bin/lsnodes which does not exist (try crs_1/bin/lsnodes? or one of the others?).
lsnodes is built in many places, and most have some bug causing the "struct size 0". I tried some workarounds with varied success, but nothing worked 100%.
Finally, I did what you did, e.g.
./srvctl status nodeapps -n "<hostname>"
crs_stop -all
./srvctl stop nodeapps -n "<hostname>"
./srvctl start nodeapps -n "<hostname>"
crs_start -all
./srvctl start database -d "<sid>"
which is almost as simple as "crs_start -all", but I'm hesitant to put this in my boot procedure because I'd have to figure out how long to wait.
Nice to see that even less testing is going into 10gR2. ;-)

Regarding metalink doc id:112528.1
my OS is AIX 5.2 and using oracle 10gr2
problem:SQL*Plus hangs when non dba users try to login
reason:
The customer had recently disabled archiving on the system. They had commented out all of the init<sid>.ora parameters
that enable archiving and had started up the database in
noarchivelog mode. They forgot to change the cron job scheduled to run
at night to shutdown the database to do a cold backup, then
startup the database again in archive log mode.
This will be a problem with ORACLE 7.3.X and ORACLE 8.0.X versions.
can anyone please tell me whether they had faced or will problem will arise in 9i or 10g r2 versions. i didn't experienced this till now. what will be the solution for this problem?Provide output of following
select sid,event,seq#,p1,p2,p3 from V$session_wait where wait_time=0 and event not like '%message%';
show parameter resource
elect LOGINS,DATABASE_STATUS,INSTANCE_ROLE,ACTIVE_STATE from v$instance;

Hi,
We are starting a new project and the chosen database is Oracle 10g R2 on AIX. For the ETL, we have decoded to use the OWB. The confusion is in choosing between the OWB versions 10g R2 and 11g R1.
If anyone in this forum used the 11g version (with 10g database preferably), I would like to know your experience with 11g.
Are there any significant issues with OWB 11g? Any of those are major ones?
Did you face any compatibility issues?
Did you have problems with workflow integration?
It will be great if you all can share a bit of your experiecne.
Thanks.Nat wrote:

Thanks.What to use depends on various factors:
1. What level of expertise do you/your company has in OWB. i,e if the guys are well conversant with version 10 then i would advise using 10gR2 as it is useful to know 10gR2 before jumping to 11g.
2. If you have enough time at ur disposal then go for 11g as it will be a learning curve and will stand good considering that the next version of owb will be on top of 11g technology.
3.Are you intending to exploit any 11g features or stick with 10gR2 features.
4. What is the complexity of the mappings and how soon do u intend to migrate as at some point of time u will ahve to migrate to 11g and rather than doing the hard work twice once while dveloping in 10gR2 and the migrating to 11g i would rather develop on 11g.
So i think all of the above factors will help you to determine which version to use.
!0gR2 has been stabilised over a period of time and 11g is still naive and will be sued and oracle will continue to fix the problems over the next few months/years but having said that many of 10gR2 problems have been or supposed to be fixed in 11g.
My bet: go for 11g. -
10gR2 installation problem on HP-UX 11.31 on Itanium
Oracle 10gR2 installation on a HP-UX 11.31 Itanium just hangs at the "./runInstaller -ignoreSysPrereqs &". OraInstall log shows "-ignoreSysPrereqs" as the last line & the installation doesn't move at all. Any ideas, why ?
Hello,
I didn't had this problem with the same binaries last year on hp-ux 11iv3 but i have it now.
The things that changed is the OS (last HP-UX version, always 11iv3 but patched) and the hardware but i am not in charge of them and have no time to investigate.
The solution provided (use of the JVM from the OS) is OK for me.
UPDATE : after consulting the Doc 780102.1 on Metalink, we can see that the bug is due to the installation of the September 2008 update of HPUX 11iv3, the solution given is to set jvmloc option.
Regards.

Problems running jobs in db 10gR2 from owb 10.1.0.4
Hi all,
we have a little problem, we can not run jobs through the deployment manager. The deployment is ok but instead of something running we get to see nothing at all. I already noticed some minor problems that could be solved by granting a few privileges and I am afraid there are a few more missing.
The installation was a fresh 10.2.0.2 database in which a new runtime repository and schema was created. In the location we specified 10.2 as target database release.
Is any tip available about where to check ?
What log/trace could be usefull ?
Who is running this combination for production ?
thanks.
Ronald.Thanks for the pointer, it did not help ...
We opened a TAR and we were suggested changing to owf 2.6.3 instead of 2.6.4. This looks a bit weird to me since as fas as I remember 2.6.4 ( from the 10gR2 companion cd) was installed ... This seems to be working ok now.

10gr2 TABLE(CAST( problem
We have an existing report that uses existing function to table cast back data in the from clause. A very simplified example:
FROM grant g, grantparticipant gt, table(cast(getSchedule(g.grant_pk, gt.grantparticipant_pk) as r_sched)) sched
where g.grant_pk = gt.grant_fk
and sched.grantparticipant_pk = gt.grantparticipant_pk
The grantparticipant_pk is NULL when captured in the function. There are no null values in the table (it's a primary key). When the where clause is changed to reference a specific pk it works fine and the value is filled in.
The works in our production db where the Oracle version is 10g. It works in development which is also 10g. The problem only appears to be with our 10gr2 DB.
Any ideas....The problem was solved with ANSI JOINs. Would still like to know why that problem occurred?

Problems with Enterprise Manager Oracle 10gR2
Hi,
The installation of 10gR2 on Windows 2000 seems to work.
I only have a problem with web enterprise manager.
I can connect to the database correctly and I can manage the database (creating tables, users and so on).
The only problem is in the first page (home) of the database, accessing with the web enterprise manager.
In fact I get this "error: java.lang.Exception: IOException in sending Request :: Connection refused", but I however access the db.
I verified the DBSNMP user and it's active.
Did someone get the same error?
Excuse if I'm repeating a previous post, but I received answers about linux environment only (I have Windows 2000 server, instead).
thanks a lot,
FrancescoWe have in fact seen the same error. In our case, it appeared after the network guys moved the Oracle server from one domain to another. (This is not an action that I highly recommend, by the way.)
I used emca to delete the Enterprise Manager agent and recreate it. For a single instance server not in a cluster or on a grid, the commands look like this:
emca -deconfig dbcontrol db
emca -config dbcontrol db
That worked just fine. However, we started getting an "account locked" error when the Enterprise Manager started. And the result is the same as you described. The account is not locked by any means. If you ignore what you see on the screen about an error, you can go on and administer the database just fine. It's just when you get back to the home screen, it tells you that your account is locked and you are not in touch with the instance.
I can make the error go away for awhile by stopping and starting the agent with
emctl stop dbconsole
emctl start dbconsole
But the error comes back in a little while.
We don't consider it a show stopper, since the database performs normally. It's just one of those things you wish it would not do. -
Oracle 10gR2 Install RHEL4 compat-libstdc++-296 problem
Trying to install Oracle 10gR2 on an Red Hat Enterprise 4 server and having an issue.
[oracle@xxxxxxxx ~]$ uname -a
Linux xxxxxxxx.xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx.xxx 2.6.9-42.0.3.ELsmp #1 SMP Mon Sep 25 17:28:02 EDT 2006 i686 i686 i386 GNU/Linux
[oracle@xxxxxxxx ~]$
The OUI, during Product-Specific Prerequisite Checks reports the following error:
Checking for compat-libstdc++-296-2.96-132.7.2; found Not found. Failed <<<<
However, the rpm package is installed:
[oracle@xxxxxxxx ~]$ rpm -q compat-libstdc++-296
compat-libstdc++-296-2.96-132.7.2
[oracle@xxxxxxxx ~]$
The only thing I have been able to find so far is to make sure the package is installed.
There is also another compat-libstdc++ installed:
[oracle@xxxxxxxx ~]$ rpm -q compat-libstdc++-33
compat-libstdc++-33-3.2.3-47.3
[oracle@xxxxxxxx ~]$
is that somehow causing a problem? How does the OUI actuall check for package dependancies?
Any pointers or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
JeffHi Jeff, you will have to install other packages from the RHEL4 cd's. Here is a list of what I usually run. Some are in the oracle install docs and some are not. If you are using the CDs then first cd to the cdrom
cd /media/cdrom
rpm -ivh ncompress-4.2.4-40.i386.rpm
rpm -ivh compat-libstdc++-296-2.96-132.7.2.i386.rpm
rpm -ivh glibc-common-2.3.4-2.i386.rpm
rpm -ivh gcc-3.4.3-9.EL4.i386.rpm --aid
rpm -ivh gcc-c++-3.4.3-9.EL4.i386.rpm --aid
rpm -ivh sysstat-5.0.5-1.i386.rpm
rpm -ivh libaio-0.3.102-1.i386.rpm
rpm -ivh compat-libstdc++-33-3.2.3-47.3.i386.rpm
P.S. I usually copy all the files from the install media to a mounted share on my network and it makes this really easy.

New IP caused a problem to launch DBConsole & listener (Oracle 10gR2)
Guys,
I have installed Oracle 10gR2 on XP system. My dev machine does not have permanent IP address and recently it has been changed.
As a result I can launch Listener and Enterprise Manager - it‘s a problem to start OracleDBConcoledev01 and OracleOraDb10g_home1TNSListener.
My sid name is dev01. I found 2 folders where the old IP is involved:
<c:\oracle\ora1020\db01\192.168.188.71_dev01> and
<c:\oracle\ora1020\db01\oc4j\j2ee\OC4J_DBConsole_192.168.188.71_dev01>
I saw some articles, but didn’t find exact solution of my problem.
I would appreciate very much any help regarding steps I should go through to make my Oracle working again.
Thanks,

OWB 10gr2 - MDL1601 and MDL1201 - Metadata Import Problems
I am running OWB 10gr2 on top of a 10gr2 database for the repository. I'm trying to do an export of an entire project into MDL, and then import it into another repository in a different environment, with same setup (both OWB and database are 10gr2 there as well).
The export goes fine, but when trying to import, I get two different error messages:
1) After selecting the MDL file to import, if I click the "Import" button I get a-
"MDL1601: Cannot import because the base language in the MDL file is missing"
2) Also if I try to click the "Show Summary" or "Advanced..." buttons on the import screen, I instead get a-
"MDL1201: Import file is not valid. Metadata Loader release must by specified in import data file using the MDLRELEASE keyword."
As to the first error, I have verified in my source repository that the Base Language is in fact listed as "American English", and have even gone so far as to add basic "English" as an additional display language using the repository assistance, but this brings no improvement.
As to the second error, I have already found the post here in the forums explaining that it is due to a corrupted MDL file because of insufficient Java VM memory. However, I have tried the solution recommended there, also with no improvement. (it is here: Re: MDL1201: Import data file is not valid.
Any help that someone can provide would be greatly appreciated. For purposes of backing up my repository project, I'm getting concerned that if I ever needed to, I'd never be able to restore from a MDL export file!
Thanks in advance for any help.The error is due to the corrupted MDL file. MDL is getting corrupted because there is not enough memory for java VM. To fix the MDL corruption increase memory parameters.
1. On client PC: XXXX\owb\bin\win32\owbclient.bat change
java -Xms64M -Xmx768M -Dlimit=768M -XX:MaxPermSize=256M
to
java -Xms64M -Xmx1024M -Dlimit=1024M -XX:MaxPermSize=512M
Restart client session.
It did fix the problem in my case.
Oracle also recommends changing memory parameters on the server side (UNIX in my case)

Repwizard.bat problem in 10gR2
When I installed OLite 10gR2, the repository wizard failed to run and I cannot create the repository. So I mnaually run %olite_home%\Mobile\Server\admin\repwizard.bat, I encountered the following error:
Installation mode is : STANDALONE
Exception in thread "main"
And this was also the error in the installation log.
Actually I see the script in repwizard.bat, and found many jar files (as stated in the classpath) were missing.
Anybody encounter the same problem? and how to solve it?
TIA
Matthewok ok, finally have Oracle Lite 10g R2 installed.
Two major changes were made:
1. Change the locale to English in Regional Settings (I'm using Chinese WinXP Pro sp2)
2. Configure a loopback adapter and set a fixed IP
The former is much critical. After installed in English, I turned it back to Chinese, but the Mobile Server cannot be started.
So does OLite support Chinese Windows? -
Problems with a New installation on 10GR2 and HTMLDB 2.0
I'm trying to build a new HTMLDB server using 10GR2 on Suse Linux.
The database is fine, and I've pulled the HTTP server from the 10GR2 companion CD which I can connect to ok. I downloaded and installed HTMLDB 2.0 without errors.
Following the 2.0 post install docs, it talks about HTTP 9.0.3 and Oracle 10G Release 1 - nothing about 10G Release 2.
The 10G instructions says to modify the marvel.conf file - except I don't have one anywhere on the server.
Has anyone else managed to build a fresh install using 10Gr2 and HTMLDB 2.0 ? - it looks like something in the config has changed.
Dougie McGibbonHad exactly the same problem and lot's of people will have it. Just posted the solution here, hope the devs will adjust the manual.
HTMLDB 2.0 Manual is faulty. Install on DB 10.2 and 10.2 Companion
Cheers
