  • Newbie help with Aironet 1200 access point

    Hello everybody,
We "inherited" an Aironet 1200 access point with antenna's throughout our building. This was installed by a company that thought they would make money selling Wi-Fi access but now they have gone bankrupt.
We eliminated their router and installed one of our own, and we have it handing out IP addresses. When I plug it into the Aironet 1200 it works just fine. Users are able to connect wirelessly and access the internet.
I would like to change the SSID however so that it no longer reflects the now defunct companies name.
I cannot determine what IP address is assigned to the access point so I can't figure out how to access the management page.
I tried connecting to the ethernet port via a DB9 to RJ45 cable and hyper terminal. After connecting the cable and powering up the access point I am still unable to connect.
I realize once I get connected I will probably run into password issues, but I'd like to figure out how to get at least that far.
    Any ideas?

since ur gonna change the ssid and there is a password...
    1. reset the ap. before plugging power to ap, press hold the mode button for 3 sec or until the led becomes orange or amber, then release.
    2. the ap is reset to default setting with ip address 10.0.0.1
    3. either console or gui the ap and change the bvi to ur preferred ip address.
    4. configure everything else as you want.

  • Cisco 1200 Access Points as Bridges - Won't work

I could use some help. I have a pair of Cisco 1200 AP's that I'm trying to use as bridges.
I have selected one as a Root Bridge, the other as Non-Root. The non-root shows the wireless interface down and the log reveals 'no association'.
I have verified NO security, identical SSID's, broadcast SSID, no encryption, no WEP, they are sitting 10 feet apart, same channels, etc. etc.
Can a 1200 access point serve as a bridge?

I went to Security > SSID Manager and selected the only SSID as the infrastructure SSID and it did nothing. If there is another place to toggle 'Infrastructure SSID' on and off other than by assigning one, I'm unaware of it.
    Any other ideas?
    Thanks.

  • Downgraded A1240 Access point to IOS that support CLI command

I have a new A1240 and it IOS is working with new command LWAPP and need a control server to manage the access point. It (ios) does not have configure terminal command. I think I can delete the IOS in the flash and load a older version IOS. I went ahead and deleted the IOS and assumed the access point will go to rommon mode and allows me to archive a tar file (older ios) into the access point. However, I only get AP: prompt and stuck here. I can not run copy or archive command. What are recover process. Need your expert guidance. Au Ray Singapore

    Hi Au Ray,
    Have you tried this method?
    Using the MODE button
You can use the MODE button on 1100 and 1200 series access points to reload the access point image file from an active Trivial File Transfer Protocol (TFTP) server on your network or on a PC connected to the access point Ethernet port.
This process resets all configuration settings to factory defaults, including passwords, WEP keys, the access point IP address, and SSIDs.
Follow these steps to reload the access point image file:
Step 1 The PC you intend to use must be configured with a static IP address in the range of 10.0.0.2 to 10.0.0.30.
Step 2 Make sure that the PC contains the access point image file (such as c1100-k9w7-tar.122-13.JA.tar for an 1100 series access point or c1200-k9w7-tar.122-13.JA.tar for a 1200 series access point) in the TFTP server folder and that the TFTP server is activated. For additional information, refer to the "Obtaining the Access Point Image File" and "Obtaining TFTP Server Software" sections.
Step 3 Rename the access point image file in the TFTP server folder to c1100-k9w7-tar.default for an 1100 series access point or c1200-k9w7-tar.default for a 1200 series access point.
Step 4 Connect the PC to the access point using a Category 5 (CAT5) Ethernet cable.
Step 5 Disconnect power (the power jack for external power or the Ethernet cable for in-line power) from the access point.
Step 6 Press and hold the MODE button while you reconnect power to the access point.
Step 7 Hold the MODE button until the status LED turns red (approximately 20 to 30 seconds), and release the MODE button.
Step 8 Wait until the access point reboots as indicated by all LEDs turning green followed by the Status LED blinking green.
Step 9 After the access point reboots, you must reconfigure the access point by using the Web-browser interface or the CLI.

  • 1200 access point dropping connections

I have a 1231G access point running c1200-k9w7-mx.123-2.JA it will randomly drop connects during the day. If I look in the logs I see the following occur just before the link drops.
%LINK-3-UPDOWN: Interface Dot11Radio0, changed state to down
%LINK-5-CHANGED: Interface Dot11Radio0, changed state to reset
%LINK-3-UPDOWN: Interface Dot11Radio0, changed state to up
    Any Ideas?

    Hi!
It seems to me that I obtained the same issues with AP1200.
10 AP have been installed for 10 days in 5 different enterprises.
And in 6 cases after changing some parameters of RF Interface the all clients dropped the signal.
This trouble was solved very simple.
I turned off and turned on RF Interface again.
After that AP1200 began to work properly.
So they have still worked without any troubles after many times of power failures.
If you have any results or suggestions, you will be able to write me on E-mail:

  • Access points lost and can't recreate them after E...

I foolishly took the latest upgrade to the E90 soft/firmware via the Nokia software updater.  Previously I was connecting to the internet & downloading e-mails into my mailbox via GPRS from my phone provider (Swisscom).
Following the upgrade, as well as some lesser problems (one application disappeared, calendar entries failed to restore from the backup to my PC) I found there are no access points at all.  I get "No Access Points Defined - Define One Using Connection Settings" when I open the browser.  In Tools/Settings/Connection/Access Points I get "No access points defined.  Define now?" and a screen with some connection settings that I can't complete.
I still have the Configuration Messages sent by Swisscom when I first put the PIN in the phone (it was bought PIN-free) that saved access point settings for GPRS and MMS.  If I try to re-save these settings I get "Settings already saved.  Save again anyway?" and on selecting "Yes", "Unable to save all settings.  2 settings saved" - all of which suggests that there are still access points in existence but I can't overwrite them.
The settings wizard is no good as it just seems to look at e-mail settings, which I don't think have changed.  I've looked on the Swisscom web site but not found anything helpful.
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

Update to my previous post: I just found that the solution was to restore factory settings (under Tools/Settings for the E90).  This has restored all of the old access points, and I was also able to re-save those from my phone provider so I have access to the internet & e-mails.
What confounded me slightly was that (contrary to several other posts I've seen on this forum) the software upgrade changed my Lock Code (which you need to restore Factory Settings) back to the old value of 12345 - I had changed this to another code.  After waiting the necessary 5 minutes I used the old code & it worked.
In general I agree - a lot of pain and aggravation for very little advantage in taking this upgrade, so I'd say DON'T.

  • Cisco 1200 Access Points

    Hi,
Is it possible to setup an Aironet 1200 in Root AP mode, where it does DHCP for the Wifi clients and NAT. Where the wired interface is equipped with a public IP?

If your 1200 has two radios, yes.  Otherwise it's either a root or an AP but can't be both (per radio).

what are you trying to accomplish?
With the PSK you aren't telling the client it needs to do .1x auth for the Mac authentication.
If you are just trying to keep some clients off the wireless, I would take a look at doing a MAC ACL (ACL 700)

  • IOS 6, Netgear access point and Internet

    Hi,
I’ve reached a point where I’m not entirely sure what to do next.
Here are some quick details (all are on most recent firmware unless stated):
    Router: Draytek Vigor2830n
    Access Point: Netgear WG102
Devices: iPhone 4, iPhone 5, iPad 2 and two iPad 2’s for comparison on iOS 5.
So, all devices running iOS 6.1.3/4 will connect to the Netgear access point just fine, can browse the LAN / stream media from network shares but internet access seems to be 'delayed' and can take anywhere between a minute to 20 minutes to connect (I give up after this). In comparison both the iPad 2’s running iOS 5 will gain internet access immediately after connecting to the access point.
On the other hand, when connecting to the routers wireless on all devices it works flawlessly and internet connection is 'instant'.
Given the problems that Netgear wifi has had with iOS 6, which were supposedly ‘fixed’ in iOS 6.1, I’m not sure what to do. It’s definitely a software problem, and could well be something to do with the router (along with connecting to the access point and iOS 6), but I’m not sure what to start changing first. iOS 5 works fine, so what has changed in iOS 6 to break it?
Its not a security issue like before 6.1 and not being able to connect to the access point at all.
    Basically:
    - I either need to figure what in iOS 6 is causing this ‘delay’ and how to fix it
-Give up on the access point and buy a new one (seems a bit extreme given that every other devices works fine – iOS 5, blackberry, laptops etc).
-Wait for iOS 7, hopefully in the next couple of weeks and see if it fixes it, though I can find little information on this issue as it is, and nothing to suggest iOS 7 might help. Though if iOS 5 is fine, iOS 6 broke it and 6.1 slightly fixed it, maybe iOS 7 will cure it? Doubt it…but worth waiting a few days.
Anyone got any suggestions? I have been through all the usual (HTTP proxy, forget this network, reset network settings), nothing makes it work flawlessly like iOS 5 and the issue is the same on a wide spread of devices running iOS 6.

Dont know my routerand access point works fine. Try http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4199 and make sure your setting are correct.

  • Unable to stop the event logs on access point console

    Hi team,
I have an AIR-LAP1131AG-E-K9 access point having ios c1130-k9w8-mx.124-21a.JHB1.
When I am trying to take the console of it there are many logs generated like LWAPP ...Go join the controller, Discover controller etc. and the ap is unable to register to the controller(2112 with ios version 6.0.199.4). I'm trying to enter the command but there are many event msg generated....How do i stop this event log. I tried entering the command no debug all. but still there are many logs...
I want to enter the the following commands
    #lwapp ap  ip address <ip addr>.
    #lwapp a pip default-gateway <gateway ip addr>
    #lwapp ap controller ip addr <controller ip>
    #wr me
Revert me back on urgent basis
    Thanks in advance..

    Thanks Rashika,
Now the access point got registered to the controller..This happened becuse of country Code..
I have changed the country code to UK, Belgium it started working fine.
Initially when it was IN the access point was not getting register..
But now the problem which arised is that the user is unable to get authenticated to the radius server.
Radius server is reachable and we have done every changes required for radius server authentication.
    Users are getting rejected.
Customer is saying that the radius server is in IN domain and the WLC/access point is in UK,BE and hence the users are unable to connect..
    Is it so??
    Rply
    Thanks in advance...

  • Configuring N channel on cisco 1252 Access Point

    Hi,
Can someone help me for configuring N-Series band on Cisco 1252 Access Point in IOS Mode.

  • Cisco Security Advisory: Access Point Memory Exhaustion from ARP Attacks

I recieved this Cisco Advisory e-mail today. I have 1200 access points that I upgraded yesterday to 12.3(7)JA2, in which this problem was corrected. In the advisory it states to upgrade to this software release and to make a configuration change on each radio interface. I made this change on Dot11Radio0 interface and it took. I have 2 more interfaces ( Dot11Radio0.2 and Dot11Radio0.75) in which I get an error when I try to make this configuration change. I don't quite understand these interfaces, so I would like to know if I really need to make this change on the other 2 interfaces or is making the change on the 1st one enough. Any information is certainly appreciated. Thanks, Laurie Coles

Since you have subinterfaces configured, you are apparently using
VLANs on your APs. The ARP table is only relevant for the VLAN
with the management IF, that is the native VLAN.
For all other VLANs it's simply bridging, therefore no ARP table,
and therefore this vulnerability doesn't apply here.
So your only concern should be the native VLAN, and unless you
need wireless access for managing your APs the best way for
securing this would be to not configure a SSID for this VLAN.
Then the only access to the AP would be over the Ethernet-IF.
The security advisory is more important for APs configured
without VLANs where wireless clients and the management IF
of the AP are in the same (W)LAN.

  • Can interference cause an access point to reboot?

I recently configured our WCS to send email notifications.  Monitor > Alarms > Email Notification
I now receive emails from WCS stating that some access points dissassociate from the controller, and then another email stating they are back again.  Not the same APs, not all at the same time, etc.  We have 1200+ access points.  A very small percentage... maybe one or two per day decide to leave the controller and then come back.
Looking at the controller, I see this is a true statement.  I see that the access point's uptime is equivalent to the time is left the controller and came back again.
My question is... does anyone else have this configured, and if so, what was causing the access points to disassociate?  I cannot tell if the access point is actually rebooting or simply wandering away from home.
Is there a way to see what caused the AP to leave and come back again?  With nobody in the building at 7pm, I don't think it was human intervention.  Other access points on the same switch, and they don't wander.  I do wonder if interference or something else can cause an access point to reload.
    The APs are AIR-LAP1210 on a 5508 running 7.0.98.0
Are there any known bugs that you are aware of?
    Thanks in advance!

You are in luck. Like you we have 4500 radios and we turned on alerts and we got slammed on this as well. I will share with you some of the things that contriubuted to our problem. It just wasnt one issue...
    1) We had 200 APs configured as a primary to 1 WLC. Well that WLC could only take 150. So when one AP jumped off there were 50 other aps interested in getting on. And when this happened we got an alert. We only fill 125 per wism today. This cut down on a good portion of our alerts
    2) We disbaled ap fall back. Once the aps were where we wanted them we killde ap fall back. (no more bouceing around).
    3) We had a few aps with link problems. Not many but a few. These aps would lose data connection but still keep power and not reboot. We either had to replace the patch cable or do a new run.
Take a few and investigate them. You will start to develop your own pattern.
