16bit 1998x1080 Tiff Sequence - Help

I have been asked to provide a motion graphic sequence in AFX for a cinema advert. Apart from a few small photography stills graphics are all in Illustrator native format and blocks of colour so is it best for me to work in a smaller comp say half the output size and 8 bits and then export at full 1998x1080 16 bit resolution utilising the conitnuous rasterization settings maybe in a new comp. Or should I work natively thus reducing render times. Any tips for working on this project it's all pretty new to me, for example presumably I need to export as progressive frames, should I use motion blur for spinning graphics, any general advice guys. HELP

Always use the final output parameters as your guide to creating the job specs. Working at a different resolution and then converting is likely to result in a mess - don't do it to yourself.
So create your job using the 1998 x 1080 specs you have. You can, of course, spend most of your AE design time using lower preview resolutions. I often preview at 1/4 res when doing stuff for cinema.
You can also keep the project at 8 bit until render time, then switch to 16 bit. Be warned that switching to 32 bit is likely to change the look of some stuff, so if you plan to render at 32 bit then you should work with it all the way through.
Definitely render progressive, not interlaced, for cinema. Yes, use Motion Blur like you would for any other project. Presumably your output will run at 24fps. Make sure any audio will be mixed for cinema, or it will sound flat and lower-level than it should. My cinema stuff is always delivered as 16-bit TIFF image sequences - check with your facility to verify what they prefer.

  • How to Render a Tiff Sequence with original EXIF Data?

    Hi,
I´m importing a DNG Image Sequence via Camera Raw to AE.
After some color corrections and alignment I would like to Render the images as TIFF sequence including their original Exif Information, e.G. Exposure time, ISO, Aperture.
in the render dialog under "output module settings" there is an option called "include Source XMP Metadata, which is not available when I export to TFFF Format.
Can anyone help me on this?
    Thanks in advance...

It means what it says: XMP. Unless these infos exist as sidecar XMP files, AE has no way of retaining that info.

  • I Wish for a little more IQ in AME when dealing with TIFF Sequences !!!

    1)
I drop a movie into AME (let us assume a .MOV) called MVI_7899.MOV which I want to convert to a TIFF sequence.
    So far so good.
I set my parameters etc and choose an output destination.
    I click render
Let us assume that my .MOV has 1800 frames.
AME names my new movie as follows
    MVI_78990000
    thru to
    MVI_78991800
Any other app that I have ever been working with would have the chops to add an "_" (Underscore) character BEFORE adding the sequence number.
I SURE would wish for such in AME>>>>> If NOT already possible.
    2)
Also, I think there should be a preference called "Automatically Create Folder for Image Sequences"
This would create a folder with the name of MOV file and put all the sequences inside of it. THat would SAVE time. LOTS.
    3)
Also, I think it would be fair to assume that anyone dropping a MOVIE into AME does NOT wish to create ONE tiff image from that whole movie but a TIFF Sequence. Choosing Adobes TIFF presets will NOT tick the "Export as Sequence"Parameter
    4) Last but not least
Why on earth is it not possible to drag n drop a tiff sequence folder onto AME. I have to double-click in the source name view and then navigate to the sequence I want to import.
    5) Ok LAST wish
When having navigated to a TIFF sequence I cant believe I have to check - Import as sequence - This parameter, in book, should be ticked by default.
At least I know of NO ONE.. Wanting to convert ONE single tiff frame to H264..
Perhaps the guys that make this app could consult a little with folks working with image sequences ;-)
Afterall, if you have a RAID0 system - movies converted to image sequences are going to beat the performance of ANY codec available on the planet currently.
Thanks for reading and for an otherwise great intuitive app !

    Hi,
Thanks for the great feedback.  All of these issues are superb feature requests.  Would you mind filling out the feature request form for each one of these?  Sending feedback that way ensures that it gets routed and filed appropriately.  The forum here is a great place for discussing the issues, the feature request form is the best way get it in front of the right people's eyes.
FWIW, several of these issues are already logged internally, and are on the long list of improvements for the next version of AME.
Specific responses to each of your requests:
    1) Yep.  After Effects does this.  AME should, too.
    2) You're preaching to the choir here.  I'd love to see AME and AE both adopt this feature.
    3) I get frustrated by this, too.  Export As Sequence is not enabled by default for any of the still formats except DPX.  Definitely want to fix this.
    4) AME isn't quite smart enough to distinguish a folder of individual TIFF files from a folder containing a TIFF sequence.  Same reason that you can't use sequence files as a source in a Watch Folder.  Definitely something we want to fix.
    5) Yep.  After Effects does this.  AME should, too.
Again, thanks for the helpful feedback.  It is appreciated.

  • Tiff sequence into Color

    Hello,
This is slightly a long winded problem so hope I explain it properly.
My friend edited a sequence in adobe premiere (HDV with .m2t files) and wanted me to grade it. I don't use premiere and much prefer color, but FCP wont read in .m2t files. On a previous discussion someone suggested outputting the sequence onto tape and reimporting into FCP. Unfortunately I cannot do that (no camera) and therefore exported a tiff sequence, which imported fine into FCP. Now this sequence is roughly 4000 stills, and I didnt want to send it straight to Color like that otherwise I'd have 4000 stills to color. So I tried nesting the stills into the clips that they were originally edited in, but color didnt read them like that. So now onto the question, is there a way to group stills in Fcp so color reads them as one clip? Any help would be most appreciated!
    Thanks
    Mel

Color doesn't recognize stills of any sort.
Not entirely true. COLOR is supposed to import 16-bit Tiff sequences, but it doesn't work very well. One of the other issues is that frame rate gets a little ambiguous.
It does better with cineon and dpx sequential image files -- those are supported for export as well.
For a quick brute-force fix, exporting a ProRes Quicktime from the Tiff sequence might be your best bet, which will make it more FCP-friendly. Be extremely careful with the superwhite scaling.
If you absolutely MUST grade the TIFF sequence natively, then try bypassing the whole FCP workflow by opening a new COLOR project, navigate to the tiff media and import it directly... set up some event markers with the internal COLOR editing tools and go from there. I will say a special prayer for you and light a votive candle. A medal will be awarded for special valor, and without question a drawer full of Purple Hearts.

  • Importing TIFF sequence

    Hi,
I am used to using AVID and this has never been a problem for me. I have created a very simple title sequence in After Effects CS4 and am trying to import the TIFF sequence into Final Cut Pro 7 but each time I lose the transparency of the TIFFs.
I have changed my stills duration to 1 frame and tried opening the TIFF sequence in Quicktime Pro 7 and exporting to a .MOV but everytime the title sequence loses its transparency and appears with a black background. This is annoying as it is supposed to appear over video - an 'introduction for a director' as I am editing a 'making of'.
Any help would be much appreciated.
    Michael McCool.

Try outputting from AE in ProRes 4444.

  • GTX 470 or 570 for editing TIFF sequences with Mercury

Hello! II am making a short film with Cinema 4D and I'm thinking of getting either a GTX 470 or 570, does anyone know if using the mercury engine will actually improve editing speed with uncompressed 1080p TIFF sequences? All the prerendering slows down the editing process I'm on a i7-950 with 12 gb DDR3 and a ATI 5770 currently, my OS drive is also an SSD if that matters. My editing drives are just regular drives though, no RAID either. thanks!

I have a GTX 480 (with MPE hack) and a i7 980x, 24GB ram and a 3-disk Raid 0.  I've never been able to get a TIFF sequence to playback in real time.  The best I get is probably a choppy 4 frames per second.    I know this doesn't answer your question entirely, but maybe it can help a tad.
I myself I'm trying to get find a way to playback TIFF sequences.  I'm going to be setting up a 4-disk Raid 0 on an eSata raid box, but I'm thinking at some point it's just getting bottled necked at my port connection.  Not sure.  Others can probably shed more light on the Raids.
The best way I've been able to adapt so far is to create annoying proxy sequences (hence my repeat posts about Premiere needing proxy capabilities).  I drop my TIFF sequence in a new sequence.  Render it out in low rez. Drop that new low rez version onto the same sequence so now it has two--one HD 1080 and SD 720 (ok, so it's not really SD).  I turn on the SD version and the other one off.  I make my cuts and edits on my sequences and then when everythings all nice and purdy, I flip the switch back on the HD version and I'm ready for final rendering.
I have my "SD" version set at 720 so it's obviously smaller than the other clips so I don't inadvertantly leave it on for the final render.
Not a great workflow and adds some steps, but that's been my best workflow so far.

  • Render tiff sequence starting with comp frame# in adobe media encoder?

    Hi
Does anybody know how to render out a tiff sequence with AME using an after fx comp where the tiff frame numbering generated by AME reflects the same frame numbering in an After fx comp? so if my work area bar in AE comp starts at frame 73 then the first tiff frame rendered out of AME starts at frame 73. at present it seems to always start at 0 which is no good because i then have to renumber all the frames to ensure they replace the correct frames in the image sequence. i already know how to do this rendering directly out of AE. however its nice using AME because you can continue to work in AE while AME runs in the background.
    cheers!
    angus

Unfortunately you cannot specify a start file number.
That would make a good feature request.
    Cheers

  • Best Workflow for TIFF Sequences

    Hi There,
I have my ideas but I would like if anyone had an advice to give when working with TIFF Sequences
    1) Which Sequence Preset should I use, or better yet which custom settings should I go with when creating the sequence for TIFF use...
If anyone working with PPRO and TIFF sequences has any great advice like what to 'watch out for' or whatever, I would be highly appreciative !
PS - I tried searching the PPRO CS5 forum but no matter what I enter in the search field, it always renders "No Results Found"
This is happening across all adobe's forums - perhaps the search engine has a BUG ===
I am using Safari on Snow Leopard !

I knew about the trick of dragging the media to the seq icon to have premiere pro create the 'right' sequence.
Just thought there might be some better settings for using tiff sequences...
    Thanks though..
Regarding batch import of tiff sequences.
For the world of me, I cannot figure out why drag n dropping an image sequence to PPRO would spark the app to import all the tiffs as individual files, instead of setting the "Image Sequence" bit... if the folder contains 1200 tiffs.
Definitely A LOT of improvement that can be done "Image-Sequence-Wise" in PPro - especially when considering the PRO-name in the application name.
Workflow for image sequences is very un-pro in PPRO :-))))
Anyway, I am an AVID Quickeys user and I have programmed a Quickey-Script that will batch import the 100 tiff sequences that I have residing in 100 folders. I click one shortkey and Quickeys iterates through the 100 folders and half an hour later as I came back to the Mac - they had all been imported.
That beats having to manually import 100 times. Imagine I had had 700 clips - ALL - Tiff or other Image Sequences...
Anyway, quickeys is a VERY useful tool for repetitive tasks and saves me HOURS literally every day....
It is made by startly and is worth EVRY penny ! Works with OS X and Windows

  • Export Black & White TIFF sequence

When exporting a TIFF sequence, I don't see any way to specify the compression or bit depth.  Is this possible?  I would like to export a black and white (2 bit) TIFF sequence containing subtitles with alpha channel.  Also — using LZW compression might be handy in some workflows, I'm curious to test it.

Those options are not available in PP.

  • How to create tiff sequence 24 advanced

I´ve captured a footage with a sony HVR-V1U in hdv format 24 advanced progessive. In this case the camera create a pull down 3223.
I imported this footage in HDV 1080I(30) (60I) project in adobe premier.
But, when I export this sequence to a tiff sequence, adobe create a TIFF sequence in 24 standard (2323) not advanced.
Someone can halp me how to generate a TIFF sequence in 24 anvanced.
    thanks.

Out of curiosity: Why do you need a TIFF sequennce with 24pa pulldown applied?
Can you export another format with the desired pulldown applied (such as uncompressed AVI) and then create the TIFF sequence from that? Does it have to be TIFF or is TGA or BMP acceptable?

  • Exporting an avi out of premiere cs4 from a tiff sequence (1024 x 576)

Hi i would be so greatful if someone could inform me of the correct setting becouse at the moment the avi i export seems to not be wide enough.
I have a tiff sequence renderd out from after effects at 1024 x 576 and set to square pixels. i am required to then take this into premiere and render out as a microsoft avi with the compression set to none. i also need to add a sound file to this the movie.
i begin by setting up a new sequence and as i cant seem to set the size to 1024x576 i have selected the preset widescreen 48khz (not 100% if this is right) i then bring both my tiff sequence(1024x576) and my music on to the time line, i the click export and media :  Here is the settings on the screen and as you can see in the preview widow the size seems to look about right. However once the movie has been exported it does not appear as wide as this.
i would be so greatfull if you can tell if i am doing anything wrong.
    Thankyou,
    Ryan

Why do you need the AVI file, and does it have to be DV AVI? The problem will be that DV AVI is going to Export to less than what you have in both your Project/Sequence and your Assets. [Edit] Must have been dreaming, as you never mentioned "DV. You should be able to Export out as MS AVI [Uncompressed]
Depending on exactly how you will use this file, might provide some other alternative. There are several other good CODEC's, that might get what you have into what you want.
Please define the use for the Exported file? Answers will flow in.
    Good luck,
    Hunt

  • Exporting from 16 bit Tiff sequence

I am using Premiere Pro CC. I've imported 16 bit Tiff sequence that was exported from Lightroom. Each frame is 5472x3648 and about 115mb. I'm using the Red plugins so that I can create a UHDTV video at 3840x2160. Any attempt to export as dpx or even mp4 or even render the video crashes the program or the computer within seconds or at the most a minute. This same thing worked as long as the files were 8bit, but i wanted the higher quality. The computer is a:
    Alieware R4 Aurora
    Windows 7
    16 Gb ram
    3.6 Ghz Intel i7 processor
    AMD Radeon HD 8950 (graphics)
Is it premiere pro or the computer hardware that is the hangup?

Just a follow up on what I found out for someone's future reference. If I reduced the file size to 4800x3200, a slightly smaller but still in the same 3x2 ratio as the originals, then Premiere Pro CC would render the files and export them without crashing. This still allowed me to do some pans and zooms within Premiere. Not sure if that is the largest size Premiere excepts or not, it just worked for me. Also, Premiere will only export 10bit DPX sequenses, which is still fine with me.

  • AME CS5.5 - Would be nice if Watch Folder also understood TIFF Sequences

    Hi...
    Like the header says...
Did you guys over at adobe forget to add TIFF and other sequences to Watchfolders.
    Doesn't work here.
Trying to add a TIFF SEQ folder to AME as a direct Watch Folder will result in AME doing weird stuff and subjecting itself to me force quitting it
    A fix would be nice
    Thanks

Agreed - I would also like it if Watch Folders in AME could recognize still image sequences of any supported format; unfortunately that currently doesn't work.  We didn't forget about this; it was a case of the amount of time required to engineer and test the functionality exceeded the amount of time we had available.  We hope to include this functionality for a future release.
Also worth noting that Watch Folders don't support Premiere Pro or After Effects projects.  That's an entirely different problem, and much stickier since you would have to somehow identify which sequence or comp inside of the project you want AME to render.
I've made a comment about these limitations on the AME Help page about importing files to the queue and watch folders.  (Note that you too can make comments on the Help pages.)  Hopefully that will be of assistance to people in the future who encounter the same problem.
    > Trying to add a TIFF SEQ folder to AME as a direct Watch Folder will result in AME doing weird stuff
Can you be more specific about what weird behavior you saw?  If you put a still image sequence into a folder being watched, the expected result is that AME will add each individual still file to the queue.  If you put a long still sequence in there, that may take a long time.
As always, filing a feature request about changes you'd like to see is helpful.  Each submission really does matter.

  • Video Stutters in Sequence - Help needed ASAP!

I have a video shot at 24FPS in Quicktime format. Plays back fine in my preview pane but on the canvas it stutters between cuts. No effects were added. At the last second of a clip the frame holds and then jumps ahead to the next clip. This happens when I export as well.
I opened up the program and drug the clip to the timeline. FCP asked me if I wanted to "Change the sequence settings to match the clip settings" and I clicked yes. Shouldn't this make playback smooth? What am I missing?
I'm under a very tight deadline. Any help would be very much appreciated.
    Thanks!

    Is this h.264 video?
If so, convert it to pro res using MPEG StreamClip. Pro res is an editing codec, h.264 is not.
Here's a tutorial on how to accomplish this.

  • Flash sequence - help needed!

I'm trying to create an entrance page to a website in Flash.
Here is the sequence I'd like to achieve:
    1. (Page loads) - only the background picture should be seen for around 1 second.
    2. A translucient box-shaped menu unfolds (above the background, within an approx 1 sec time span) with two hyperlinked options inside.
    3. If the cursor hovers over the unfolded menu box, the background fades to black and white - within approx 1/2 sec. time span, and if the cursor moves away from the menu box (returns to the background), the background changes back to its normal colour (in the same 1/2 sec. colour change sequence).
    4. If the cursor hovers over one of the options then menu box, the text changes colour.
So far, I've attempted the menu but the unfolding sequence isn't very smooth.  Ideally, the box would begin as a 1 pixel dot, shoot out both ways horizontally into a line, and then unfold into it's full size.  But I can't seem to get the shooting motion of the pixel growing into a line - the pixel just becomes a line.
Any help would be much appreciated!
    Cheers,
    Bella

Are you using any kind of tweens for this?  To get a line to grow from a dot, the easiest way is to first make the line, then squash it into a dot by chhanging its width.  Make sure the line's registration is centered on the line.
If the menu is an object, you should be able to squash it down to a flat line by setting its height to 1 pixel.  Then you can turn that into a dot by changing its width to be 1 pixel.
You can use either timeline tweening or actionscript tweening.
