2504 Controller - increase supported clients
I am looking at the settings of a Cisco 2504 wireless controller and I can only see it supporting up to 200 clients per radio and it is not letting me change it to a value higher than 200.
However, the guide below states that it supports up to 1000 clients (I assume they have to be split 500/500 per radio). How do you get to that number? Do you need to buy/apply an additional license for that?
http://www.cisco.com/en/US/prod/collateral/modules/ps2706/at_a_glance_c45-652653.pdf
1000 value you refer is the max number of client database entries 2500 can handle. Not for a single AP.
200 value is per radio/per AP max number of clients and not controller specific. Again this value is theoratical max & you should not have that many clients per AP. Practicaly 25 max per AP is good guideline.
You do not want to have any other licence other than number of AP you want to support by this WLC.
Hope this clears your query

Support for Aironet 1040 and 2504 Controller
Are there any plans to provide support for Aironet 1040 series access points and the 2504 controller? I see where the 1140 series is supported and thought the 1040 would follow. If there are no immediate plans for full support, will OnPlus at least recognize the devices and alert if they go down, which is my main concern?
Hi Anthony,
I know we do have planned support for the 1040 in the future but I do not have dates at this time. Regarding a device going down, an ICMP host monitor can be configured on any device in OnPlus.
For more information, watch this quick video, on setting up monitors:

Thanks,

Whether 40Mhz Bandwidth is supported on 2504 controller
I found 20Mhz bandwidth enable option in 2504 controller. But what about 40 Mhz .The access points(1142) are dual band...I hope it should support in 2504 controller also.If there is no option of 40Mhz ,Please Correct me
Just like what Sarvanan said, 40 MHz is only available on 802.11a (5GHz) and not on 802.11b/g (2.4GHz).
However, in old versions of code (6.0.182 or something like that) for wirleless controller I remember the 40 MHz was also available for 2.4 GHz (802.11b/g). They recognized later it is not feasible to add it to 2.4 GHz so they removed it from later releases.

2504 controller + 2602 APs = wireless clients connectivity problems
Hello, everybody!
I have a connectivity problems of wireless clients. The symptoms are:
1) Some clients receive 169.254.x.x., instead a correct DHCP addresses, less in a minute connection drops, and in controller's "Monitor" > "Clients" tab these clients are marked as "Excluded".
2) Most of the clients receive the correct addresses from DHCP (192.168.2.x), but also loose connection soon.
3) Wireless clients with correct addresses can't ping each other, gateway and an address of the controller's dynamic interface (all of them are in same subnet).
4) And the most suspicious problem is that some machines are unable to connect to APs after several attemps to do that. I mean, I configure controller and change some options, trying to understand, whether they were applied or not and constantly connect and disconnet certain PC to the SSID. After five or ten attempts I can't connect to the SSID. During these attempts, the others PCs stay connected, without interruptions, and they could be reconnected again. It's like some kind of port security works, but I'm not sure...
Do you have any ideas which options should I configure?
My configuration:
I have three interfaces on the controller: virtual, management (default) and dynamic (it is set to the WLAN)
I have one SSID, WPA/WPA2, AES/TKIP, authentication PSK.
My clients are a/b/g/n, all are permitted on the controller. No custom security policies were applied.
All the devices are in a single room: controller, one AP and different clients: desktop, notebooks, iPad, Nokia Lumia, etc.
I have an internal DHCP Server on the controller and it works perfectly well.
I can provide all the screenshots required from web-interface of the controller...
Many thanks in advance for all ideas that you have about these problems...Hi, there!
The problem was solved.
1) APIPA address receives only single machine with Win8 - I think there are some firewall issues
2) Other devices have been loosing connection because they were mobile devices, like iPad and Lumia. If you keep working with it, it doesn't drop the connection
3) The dynamic interface address and gateway address were inaccessible because i had not used an appropriate port on the controller. =)))) Firstly, it was just a guess, but it proved.
Now, everything works with WPA2, AES, PSK...
It is a very good day!)
The only question remains: why I can't connect machines, which have a static IP? During the controller initialization, I said "yes" for permitting static IPs...
Guys, many thanks for your help! -

New bought 2504 Controller not copatible with 1702 APs
Hi!
Just got a 2504 Controller with 1702 APs, which are not joining the controller by known reasons.

But now I have to buy a SmartNET Subscription to get the bug-free Software for my controller, because software problems are not covered in the warranty? Is there any other Solution?
New controller running on 7.6.130.0

AlfredWell that is too bad. Maybe ask the company whom you bought the WLC or if you have a Cisco SE to provide you with the code. The only other option is to return it and order the WLC with v8.0, but you will be stuck on that not so good code. The 2504 w/5 AP license, you can find a SMB smartnet for cheap that can give you access to the image download. It's really up to you, but the v8.0 that is currently out is the first version and... well, do I have to say more. I won't use that version, and my customers whom have had to go with that version because of access point support is not too happy to say the least. When the newer version comes out, they will have to upgrade.

Cant Connect Cisco AIR-CAP 3602 with 2504 controller
Im trying to have one of our APs join our controller. No matter what I do, i cant get it to join the controller.
The controller has the right OS, I had to upgraded it 7.4 to support the 3600...
Both the controller and the AP has the same time and date.

Anyone ever had an online 2504 controller crash after upgrade to the point where even console port does not put anything out? Perfectly working 2504 running 7.0.116 ran upgrade through web GUI to 7.2. GUI showed perfect transfer, save etc... Asked for save before reboot. Select yes. Controller reboot and now it sits with following status lights:
Power-green
SYS - amber blinking
ALM - amber solid
Nothing out of console
Thx //art
Sent from Cisco Technical Support iPhone AppThanks! I've done many up and down on different platforms and I would have bet a paycheck on consistent upgrades.....until now. Even when you use the wrong software, bad transfer...these devices tell you. This one told me everything was good up until it said you need reload. Save and reload and it never came back. NOTHING on console. Never seen that before.
Thanks again Scott. Appreciate your support in this community.

Config storage confusion 2504 controller with CAP702I
HI all,
I've been tasked with the rollout of the above mentioned hardware, and I've managed to get so far, but it seems I cannot do a 'copy running-config startup-config' on the CAP702I Aironet access points.
ive got then registered with the controller and radios turned on but the problem is that it the power is cycled the radios turn off, I can SSH into each AP and manually turn them on and it works all fine except I shouldn't need to do that.
If anyone could give me a clue as to how to change the ap config to either store the config with radios enabled on restart on the device itself or guide me through storing the config on the 2504 controller and pointing to it on the ap devices for their startup, it would be much appreciated. So simply wireless clients are not getting ip address from the DHCP scope defined for them on AD DHCP server.
few facts about DHCP handling on WLC:
- With DHCP proxy enabled , the controller acts as relay agent.
Simply you configure primary or may be secondary DHCP server under the interface config.
When the client starts the DHCP process the controller will rekay the clients DHCP packets
in unicast form.
- With DHCP proxy disabled , the controller will not intervene at all, and the client traffic will be sent
as broadcast. If the DHCP server is on different VLAN , you have to configure relay agent under the gateway
of the client vlan so that it can reach the DHCP server.

Hosts having connection issue, 2504 controller
Hello,
We have a Cisco 2504 controller and approximately 35 AP's.
Some of the AP's are located directly above each other (on another floor).
When I run a basic annalyzer, it appears that there is some adjacent AP traffic, the controller has some of the close AP's with the same channel, so there is some RF interferance.
The AP's currently are all setup for "G" and majority of the AP's are 1200 series, most of them are 1242's.
Should and can the AP's be set with static channels so that there is no adjacent signals?
If so where in the controller can that be done?
Any help would be truly appreciated, we are a school with an iPad program, so the amount of connects is quite high as well as the availability to have internet acces.
Thank you for anytype of help you can provide.
jimIf you don't want the WLC to control the RF using RRM, you can manually set each ap and its radio statically. On the wireless tab, click on either 802.11an or 802.11bgn and the all the way to the right of the ap, there is a blue triangle. Hover the mouse over that and click configure, there you can set the channel and power leave for that radio on that ap. You will have to do each radio and ap. Hope this helps.

AP541n with 2504 controller how to
is there a step by step guide on how to manage AP541n with a 2504 controller?
I have done the initial config on the 2504 but somehow the AP does not join and i can not find what would be a correct setting for the AP. How does that work anyway. In all documentation i found the AP somehow finds the controller, but in my case it does not.Hello Frank,
I recently retired a number of 541's because they do not support an enterprise wireless configuration like you are attempting. Between themselves they can form a cluster but they are not able to join a with a controller.
You will need new access points to use with your WLC. -
Does URL Services support client side script?
My ASP page it built as a portlet, and displays fine but it
won't submit. When I view the Source in my browser, Portal
didn't include any of my client side vbscript script, then html
is there but everything else is missing....
Question: Does URLServices support client-side VBScript?
I am using some vbscript for validation purposes and then
using the document.ChangePassword.submit() to submit the
form.
If URLServices doesn't support it, then URLServices is totally
useless... Everyone uses some kind of client-side script to
validate the form!Hi Rea,
Per my understanding you want to know some information about using the Visual Studio to do the debugging, right?
Example, If you want to debug a customized extension for SQL Server Reporting Services(SSRS) in Visual Studio, you can attach the process to ReportingSerivcesService. We need to check the items "Show processes from all users" and "Show
processes in all sessions" to show the "ReportingSerivcesService. exe" process.
Additionally, please make sure the customized extension is invoked in the Reporting Services(make sure all configurations is set correctly), otherwise we won't be able to run into the breakpoint. More Details information in this article for your reference:Start
a debugging session for a Store app in Visual Studio (VB, C#, C++ and XAML)
You can also add the debugger keyword in the code, see
Debug JavaScript and jQuery using Visual Studio in Internet Explorer browser

If you still have any problem, please feel free to ask.

Sh controller d0 | beg ---Clients output
Anyone know what the "Dec" column means in the "sh controller d0 | beg ---Clients" output below?
Asking because the two clients having issues on this AP have incrementing counts on this value. I assume it has something to do with (de/en)cryption, as all other clients are on an unencrypted SSID.
Thanks for any feedback,

SSID/VLANs for Guest/Staff with 3600 and 2504 Controller
We are deploying 3600 AP's with a 2504 and would like to create multiple SSID's that are mapped to unique VLANs so we can control the traffic at the Firewall. We have the 2504 up and running with AP's but there appears to be no where in the 2504 controller Web GUI to configure a VLAN mapping to an SSID. Any pointers to documentation on how to configure?
in the WLAN configuration, you select what interface you want it to be linked to.
In the Controller Tab, on the left, go to interfaces. This is where you create teh interface name, set the VLAN,and the IP address.

Does Instant Client support client result caching?
Hi all,
couldn't find the answer to this question on the ic-FAQ (http://www.oracle.com/technetwork/database/features/oci/ic-faq-094177.html)
Does Instant Client support client result caching?
Kind regards, Sander.Yes. Like any other OCI feature, Client Result Caching is supported by Instant Client.
Besides OCI documentation, here is a link to white paper on Client Result Caching and other OCI features: http://www.oracle.com/technetwork/topics/php/whatsnew/building-best-drivers-131920.pdf
