3.1.2 Reinstall problems

For some reason, I couldn't customize the toolbar in 3.1.2 anymore (OSX 10.5.5). It would get in the customize mode, but the palette with the buttons on it wouldn't show up.
So after reading solutions here, I did the following:
1) Trashed the 3.1.2 application.
2) Reinstalled 3.04 from the Leopard original Install disc
3) The software update wouldn't see that 3.0.4 should be updated to 3.1.2 (I have OS X 10.5.5 installed)
4) I was able to get 3.1.2 by running the 10.5.5 combo update.
But, the customized toolbar doesn't work any better with 3.1.2 reinstalled. So, I reinstalled 3.0.4 from the Leopard install disc and now the customize toolbar function works properly. I'll stay with this for now.
I have Cooliris and Websnapper installed and working perfectly.

Some later Safari update fixed that.

  • Can someone help me - OS reinstall problems.

Alright guys, I'm feeling pretty stressed about my situation right now.
    Here is what happened....
I have a 13' MBP pro that I bought at the start of 2012. It was new then.
Months ago I attempted to install Windows via Bootcamp, but it failed.
Since then, I have had to press option every time I turn on my machine and select the Macintosh HD to boot up. The choices there were Mac HD (mine), Recovery HD and the Windows Partition that was never used.
I have not been able to delete the partition where Windows was supposed to be installed. Whenever I do, it says "partition cannot be mounted". But this is not my problem. I have just lived with the extra partition and space I can't use.
Today, it turned off on me for no reason. When I pushed the power button, pushed option and slected the Mac HD to boot up, it turned off on me again. Multiple times. So I opened the recovery HD. I attempted to verify, and repair the Macintosh HD multiple times. Every time it failed, telling me to back up my stuff (which I couldn't do because it would just turn off), erase the drive and restore. I tried everything I could think of, verifying, repairing, restarting, etc. To no avail.
So, I erased the hard drive. I have no time machine backup, luckily I did not have a lot of files that weren't copied already, so erasing it was not a huge loss.
Then, I hit reinstall OS X from the Utilities menu in the Recovery HD. It tells me "to set up the installation of os x mountain lion, click continue." So I do. It verifies, and has me sign into my iTunes account.
Here's a wrench in the works: I have recently changed regions. I have moved from the US to South America (specifically Ecuador).
When I sign into my apple account via Recovery HD Utilities, it gives me the message "This Apple ID is only valid for purchases in the U. S. iTunes Store. You will be switched to that store." (I don't know what this means really). So, I hit okay. Nothing happens.
I repeat the steps to sign in, and then it gives me "This Apple ID has not purchased Lion. You must sign in with an Apple ID that was used to purchase Lion." But I have purchased Lion. I can see it in my iTunes on my GF's computer.
How do I fix this? I don't care about having lion at this point. I will take leopard, snow leopard, lion or mountain lion. I am using my girlfriends Mac (10.5.8) with no App store. I don't have any recovery disc, not even snow leopard or leopard.
Any suggestions to getting a functional OS on this machine are accepted and appreciated.
Here are my measley thoughts and/or ideas:
Make a Leopard disc (somehow?) from my GF's computer and boot up using that.
Download a disc image of one of the OS's and boot up using that.
Somehow get to a Mac with the App store on it, download my already US purchased Lion install file and either burn that to disc or thumbdrive to install on my mac.
Throw my computer out the window and never touch another PC again.
    Please help. thanks.

    Here is an update:
My problem was (among other things) was that I had purchased Lion and not Montain Lion So, I upgraded the other Mac I have access to and purchased the Mountain Lion update. I recovered via internet overnight after making the purchase.
The OS worked for about 6 or 7 hours and then it shut off on me again for no apparent reason. When I rebooted, the computer went to the Recovery OS, with what seemed like no OS installed. I repaired and rebooted pressing the option key looking for a drive with the OS installed, but there was none.
So, through internet recovery I would have waited another 6-7 hours to upgrade the system with Mountain Lion via internet. Instead of that, I made a boot disk with the other computer for Mountain Lion. I made it with an SD card. I followed the instructions carefully.
Using the boot disk I attempted to reinstall. The first few times it would just progress to somewhere near the end and then the install program would close and it would return to the Recovery Option screeen. There was no succesful install and on restart it would not show a regular Mac drive, just the recovery drive. Eventually, it told me near the end of the progress bar that "Items could not be downloaded from the internent" and it would return to the Recovery OS screen, with no succesful install.
Now, after all this, I have lost the option for internet recovery. The comuter will only go to Recovery HD when the SD card is in the slot, otherwise it flashed the Folder with the Question mark in it....or.....shows me a spinning globe that says internet recovery for a few seconds, and then flashes a yeild sign with an Exclamation point and underneath is says "Apple Error -6002F."
So I can't use the SD card to successfully install the OS, and I cannot enter the Recovery HD unless the SD card is in the slot. The Recovery HD will not allow me to choose internet recovery mode. I think this may be because if it sees a boot disk it defaults to that.
Should I try making another USB boot disk? I feel like my problem may be beyond that however, seeing as how originally it would just shut off for no reason then finally it made me reinstall the OS, and then after reinstalling doing the same thing. Would it be a RAM issue? A HD issue? Can I even tell? I cannot enter diagnostic mode either. At least not by rebooting and holding D.
    Thanks to all who read.
Any info, suggestions, tips or advice?

  • Windows 8 reinstall problem

    Hi everybody!
I'm new in this forum. I bought my Lenovo thinkpad L430 last December with windows 8 installed, and now I was trying to install Linux in dualboot. The problem is that Linux asks for two primary partitions to be installed, but on my computer there were already 4 primary partitions (6 partitions).
That's what I did: I copy the recovery partition (13 Go) over a external hard drive, and I tried to reinstall windows to change the partitions during the installation process. To do that I choose the option reset in the menu.
But it was not possible to reinstall windows 8.
Now the system does not boot over windows anymore.
Moreover I do not have any image of my operating system. So I would like to know how I can reinstall windows 8 on my computer. I lost my windows 8 license ?
    Thanks for any help!

I noticed you're missing a 350mb recovery partition (see my shot below. I have a Flex 15 thus the smaller size).
The partition layout is so much more complicated with UEFI...

  • CS3 reinstall problem - asking for uninstalled CS4 beta

I have a PowerBook G4 with 1.5 Gb RAM running Mac OS 10.4.11. I have the CS3 Suite installed and last year downloaded a beta copy of Fireworks CS4. After using it a bit, I uninstalled Fireworks CS4 with the Adobe uninstaller.
I recently had a problem with Bridge and decided to uninstall and reinstall the software. I uninstalled Photoshop CS3 (in order to uninstall Bridge) and when I began to reinstall Photoshop, the installer ask me to insert the Fireworks CS4 disk! Since I don't have that disk, I hit cancel and the install terminated (I tried this multiple times and rebooted each time)
I then downloaded and ran Adobe's CS4 Cleanup app. It found NO CS4 apps to clean up.
    Any suggestions would be appreciated.
    Mark

Thanks Neil and Buko for your input. Here's where things stand now:
    1) I uninstalled FW CS4
    2) I uninstalled CS3
    3) I ran Cleanup Script
    4) I repaired permissions using Disk First Aid
    5) I reinstalled CS3
The problems with Bridge remained (sluggish, won't display icons properly, won't show a preview image, won't operate the folder list, etc.).
So I called Adobe support. Unfortunately, because I am having problems installing CS3 and NOT CS4, support is NOT FREE. The rep was helpful though -- she pointed me to document number 331594 (Diagnosing Bridge problems) and told me to start there. I followed EVERY step . . . disable start-up scripts, reverted to original preferences, cleaned up the cache, disabled the folder windows, and the problems remain.
    Guess I'll have to pay . . .
Lesson learned: don't trial Adobe software. That's when my problems began.

  • Iphoto reinstall problems

Hi, after numerous problems with "Mavericks" I have ditched it and returned to "Mountain Lion" however, whilst I have been able to rescue "pages", "numbers" etc, I am unable to return to the "mountain lion" version of iphoto. Can anyone offer any suggestions as to how to reinstall an older version of iphoto - one that will operate with Mountain Lion?

Restore the iPhoto app from your last Time Machine backup from before the upgrade to iPhoto. You cannot download a full version of iPhoto '11 from Apple's Support pages or the App Store, if you already upgraded to Mavericks and iPhoto 9.5.1.
How did you originally buy iPhoto? If it came preinstalled with an older system (MacOS 10.6), then you will find an iPhoto '11 installer on your system install media with the bundled application. If you bought an iLife '11 installer, use that.
Other than that, your only option would be to buy iPhoto again ( aniLIfte '11 install DVD) or solve the issues with Mavericks on your system and use the iPhoto 9.5.1 you have.

  • Uninstalling/reinstalling problems

    I am having trouble uninstalling/reinstalling itunes. My add/remove files list says I can not remove the program. When I try to repair or reinstall it. I get a box that pops up that says "The feature you are trying to use is on a network that is unavailable" "Click OK to try again or enter an alternate path to a folder containing the installation package 'itunes.msi' in the box below" then the choices are;
    C:\Documents and Settings\Owner\Local Settings\Application Data\Apple\Apple Software Update\
    and
    C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Apple Computer\Installer Cache\iTunes 8.0.0.35\
I am not a very tech savy guy so any help dumbed down for me would be a huge help.
The problem arose from me trying to run itunes and this message apearing "This action is only valid for products currently installed"
The library is all still there it now has the songs as quicktime files. Thanks

In addition to having iTunes open, you must also have at least one track selected for          these features to work. Note that you must have tracks selected,           rather than playlists, albums, etc.

  • Reinstall problem with CS3. HELP!!

    Hi there
I can't open my photoshop so thought i'd reinstall from my creative suite (CS3).
After a little while it ejects the disc and asks for 'Please insert Adobe Flash CS4 Professional to continue installation'..... but i don't have Adobe Flash CS4 Professional discs...never have. Any ideas??

Hi, strange as it seems, it's common!?
    http://kb2.adobe.com/cps/407/kb407277.html
    Issue
When you reinstall an AdobeCreative Suite 3 application you receive the error message, "Please insert Adobe [application] CS4 to continue installation."
    On Mac OS:
    1. Download the CS3Installer Patch utility.
    2. Unzip the CS3Installer Patch utility.
    3. Double-click the CS3InstallerPatchMac folder to open the directory.
Note: Make sure that you are logged in as Administrator.
    4. Double-click the file "CS3installer patch."
Now reinstall your CS3 application. On Mac OS, go to the [username]/Applications/Utilities/Adobe Installers folder and double-click the application you want to reinstall. On Mac OS X, you can't use your CS3 DVD or electronic download of CS3 to reinstall. Running the CS3Install Patch only resolves the problem if you reinstall the application from the Adobe Installers folder.

  • Premiere CS3 Reinstall Problem

I am currently running Windows XP Pro on a Matrox Axio system in which the CS3 Creative Suite was already installed for me upon purchase. As of late I've had problems with Quicktime (Premiere and After Effects no longer see it as a compatible format) and I was hoping that as a solution, I could reinstall Premiere and After Effects from the original discs.
This theory might work but when I get the disc to the Progress portion of the reinstall, it asks me to "insert CS3 Production Premium Disc 1 into drive \\prod\Adobeapps". I don't claim to be an expert but I just cannot figure out what the installer is asking me to do and I'm very frustrated. I tried a multitude of Quicktime-related fixes that didn't yield results and I was really hoping to try this particular fix to see if it works. Does anyone have experience with this error? If so, what was your method of bypassing it?
If this helps in any way, Quicktime stopped working with my system when one day Premiere couldn't get past the CompilerAIFF.prm during the initial program load. I went back a few hours on a system restore and when I got Premiere up and running again, Quicktime was no longer a viable option. I've tried totally reinstalling stand alone Quicktime (and I did use the Windows Installer Clean Up to remove iTunes and Quicktime before the reinstall) and I've tried repairing Quicktime in the Control Panel, and helped. In fact, attempting to repair Quicktime led to a "fatal error on install" and put me back where Premiere got hung up on the CompilerAIFF.prm again.
Any help I could get would be much appreciated.

Thanks Neil and Buko for your input. Here's where things stand now:

  • CS4 reinstall problems

I have been using CS4 for many years with no problem ever reinstalling after a computer factory reinstall until today. When I go to install CS4 back onto my computer this is what I get: "Some of the application components are missing from the application directory, please reinstall the application."  I have reinstalled it 2 times now and nothing is working. Can someone guide me in the right direction?  Thanks!

MMR75 are you still installing the software from your original installation media?  If so you may want to download a fresh copy of the installation files.  Please see http://prodesigntools.com/download-adobe-cs4-and-cs3-free-trials-here.html for information on how to download the installation files.  Please make sure to complete the Very Important Instructions prior to scrolling down the page and clicking on the download links.

  • Windows 7 reinstall problem on Lenovo G770

Re Installing Windows 7 ultimate on my Lenovo G770, have deleted all partitions apart from LENOVO One Recovery Partition. The install works fine, installs , reboots a few times, loads files onto the designated partition ... but just as it boots for the last time , it goes into cyclic reboot, but never loads the windows ( no bluescreens, just goes past F2 - F12 screen, and restarts) Am I missing something, in BIOS etc ... ? , have installed Windows XP on machine, it works fine ....

     Hi crumdub12,
    Welcome to Lenovo Community Forums!
The only thing I can think of in a BIOS setting is the SATA mode, Check it inside BIOS under Configuration,
AHCI or Compatible, check between the two.
If not, Why did you reinstall the OS, Did the previous one had problems? Because it might be the HDD afterall that caused the first issue, I would suggest to have the HDD checked as well.

  • AT&T Communications Manager reinstall problem

I'm running a MacBook Air with OS X 10.8.1.   I bought an AT&T USBConnect Force 4G, and the AT&T Communications Manager software installed correctly when the device was connected.  After installation Communications Manager wanted to update and I let it, and the update failed.  So, I tried to uninstall Communications Manager by dragging it to the trashcan (I'm fairly new to the Mac community and, silly me, trusted AT&T to write a proper Mac program to uninstall this way!) As it turns out, AT&T says one must use the Communication Manager uninstaller or files will be left behind.  Ok, Ok, I didn't read that instruction and I screwed up.  I get that.
Problem is, I cannot reinstall the AT&T Communications Manager software. When I try to reinstall, the program says it can't install because there's a newer version of the Communications Manager already present.  I cannot find the files I need to delete--as I said, I'm a fairly recent convert to Mac, and I don't really know how to navigate around in the OS X file system very well.  I tried Time Machine but that didn't work.
Please advise as to how I would locate the files I need to delete...
    Thanks much,
    Roger

Well, my experience with T-mobile and Verizon WWAN installers finds that they splatter stuff all over the system including kernel device drivers. Sounds like at&t is no different. Simply dragging the visual application icon to the trash never completely uninstalls this crud.
I use a Mac application called Pacifist developed by CharlesSoft dot com. It is $20 shareware that also has a countdown try button. It installs in /Applications and launches as a graphical tool. Drag the original at&t installer onto Pacifist and it will then present a hierarchy of the installation file names and locations. Once you have this detective information, you can surgically remove the indicated files from your system.
Your are new to the Mac community. Are you new to the UNIX terminal command line? If yes, then you should allow someone else more experienced with the terminal interface to follow the above approach, because one wrong move with terminal file removal and you could find yourself re-installing OS X. Also, if TimeMachine has been backing up your entire system, you have this undesireable installation in your back-ups. A wrong restore could re-create your problems.

  • CS3 and system reinstall problem

I have had to reinstall the system on my MacPro. Reinstalled from the disc and then updated to 10.5.6 using the combo updater and everything seems to be working again.
I understand when you do a system reinstall that it doesn't touch any 3rd party applications.
I opened Photoshop and discovered that no matter what I type (font or size), it is pixilated and all jagged.
The other Adobe programs I have don't have this problem.
What am I missing to cause this problem? Any ideas?
    Vicki

I would start by trying a New User (on the theory only Ps is hosing that font).

If the problem clears here, go back to you normal account and delete your Ps user preferences.
Also Font Agent Pro has a free demo you can download and check your fonts.

  • Uninstall/reinstall problems

OK, I uninstalled iTunes, and now I want to reinstall it. I am trying to follow the directions from the Apple support site, but I cannot delete the C:\Program Files\iTunes folder. Every time I try to, I get a message saying "Cannot delete iTunes Help.chm: Data error (cyclical redundancy check)." This is preventing me from reinstalling iTunes, which I need to update my iPod. Is there any way to fix this, so I can reinstall iTunes?

Hello, Can someone please help. I am so far into this I dont even know where to start. I downloaded Itunes 6.0 and would not open. I uninstalled and reinstalled 4 times still with no luck. I tried changing msconfig and was able to open Itunes but then could not get on Music store. I then uninstalled 6.0 and put back my original version of Itunes from a year ago. Had the same problem I know am back to having 6.0 but can not open it. Tried playing around with msconfig and am able to open but again can not log on to store. I get error message with a note saying could not log onto server please check network connection. What is funny about it is I can get on the internet but if I go on itunes.com I dont have access to downloads or forums. It is like I am only blocked from using those itunes functions.
    Someone please help
    Thanks

  • Reinstall Problem - Constant Reboot

I am having a hard time installing OSX to a new Hitachi 320GB 7200 RPM SATA drive (HD20320) on my 13 inch aluminum macbook. The laptop continually reboots when holding down C when install disk 1 is in. I know the drive is good because I put it in an external enclosure and can see it on my wife's iMac. I also formatted it on her mac, OS X Extended. So far these are the rest of the things I have tried:
    - Holding D at start up for hardware test - (reboots)
    - Hold shift at start up - (reboots)
    - Hold Option at startup - shows install disk 1, select it and reboots
    - Reset System Management controller
I am running out of ideas. If I don't get it up and running shortly I think I am going to take the drive back to Fry's and try a seagate one. Any help is greatly appreciated!

Alright, just exchanged the Hitachi drive for a Seagate 320GB SATA and am having the same problem. Any ideas?
Just figured it out......user error. Turns out I was using the OS X install discs for my iMac instead of reinstall disk for the macbook (didn't think it mattered). OS X is installing now.

  • Time machine -- does it reinstall problems?

My computer refused to boot, and disk utility said the HD could not be repaired. So, I erased the HD, reinstalled SL, and restored from TM backup (through migration assistant). After, a week same thing happens again, computer cannot boot and HD irreparable (see also my previous thread http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=2442378&tstart=0). I took it to Apple, asked them to replace the HD, but they claim it is a software issue. And if I restore from TM backup, it will happen again.
But what kind of software error can cause the HD to become corrupted and unbootable? I would think it's only low level system routines or a virus. But if I restore from TM backup, I assume the low level system is not restored, so the problems shouldn't carry over.
So, should I do a clean install instead of restore from TM? That will be days of work, to find all software again.

TM backs up and restores files. If a disk drive has directory corruption or develops a bad block that results in some corruption to files prior to a backup, then those corrupted files will be restored as -is, e.g., corrupted files.
There are any number of events that can cause corruption such as momentary power loss, brownouts, or outright power failure, abnormal shutdowns, software glitch or failure, memory glitch or failure, problem on the drive, etc. Some problems are the result of low-level failures while some are the result of high-level failures, and still others the result of hardware failures. Take your pick.
You should try repairing the drive before the extreme of reformatting it:
Repairing the Hard Drive and Permissions
Boot from your OS X Installer disc. After the installer loads select your language and click on the Continue button. When the menu bar appears select Disk Utility from the Installer menu (Utilities menu for Tiger, Leopard or Snow Leopard.) After DU loads select your hard drive entry (mfgr.'s ID and drive size) from the the left side list. In the DU status area you will see an entry for the S.M.A.R.T. status of the hard drive. If it does not say "Verified" then the hard drive is failing or failed. (SMART status is not reported on external Firewire or USB drives.) If the drive is "Verified" then select your OS X volume from the list on the left (sub-entry below the drive entry,) click on the First Aid tab, then click on the Repair Disk button. If DU reports any errors that have been fixed, then re-run Repair Disk until no errors are reported. If no errors are reported click on the Repair Permissions button. Wait until the operation completes, then quit DU and return to the installer. Now restart normally.
If DU reports errors it cannot fix, then you will need Disk Warrior and/or Tech Tool Pro to repair the drive. If you don't have either of them or if neither of them can fix the drive, then you will need to reformat the drive and reinstall OS X.
If the drive is shown to be OK then you can simply reinstall Snow Leopard. It will not erase the drive and will preserve all your files and data.

  • FC Studio Reinstall Problem

After completing some larger projects I upgraded to Leopard on my 2 processor Dual Core Mac Pro. Now my FCP screen (when it shows) consists of just some window frame lines (like title safe in the Viewer) and almost nothing else. I have dual Mac 23" monitors and the ATI X1900 card.
So I'mtrying to reinstall. I've removed every FCP Studio application by using AppZapper. Also looked through the libraries and removed those relating to FCP Studio apps as well.
But when I run the FCP Studio 2 install disk it gives me options to install everything except for FCP, which it indicates is already installed. What files am I missing that have to be removed before I can reinstall FCP?
I did go ahead with the install, and of course there is no FCP on the computer. Every other app is there and is working correctly, except for Motion, which crashes on launch. It indicates that the problem might be with the ozone plug-in, of which I have no knowledge and can't find.
Got work to do, and can't do it! Any help would be much appreciated.
    Thanks!
    Martin Reuben
    <edited by host>

Trashed the prefs for Motion and it's working fine now. But I still can't install FCP.
Can anyone help? I'm afraid I'm going to have to reinstall my entire system and I REALLY don't want to do that.
    Thanks!
