32-Bit Windows/Linux

On 32 bit windows without 3GB switch the combined size of SGA and PGA can not be more than 2GB.
As linux is a process-based architecture, so if I use 32 Bit Linux then will I be able to have separate 2GB limit for both SGA and PGA ?

Hi,
if I use 32 Bit Linux then will I be able to have separate 2GB limit for both SGA and PGA ?No, but you can take your data buffers "above the line", using Linux AWE:
http://www.dba-oracle.com/oracle_tips_ram_waste.htm
I've run 32-bit Linux with a 20 gig data buffer.
Hope this helps . . .

  • DAC 10.1.3.4.1 Server on Windows (64 bit) and Linux x86 (64 bit)?

    Hi Friends,
Please confirm wheteher Oracle Business Intelligence Data Warehouse Administration Console 10.1.3.4.1 Server is supported on
Windows (64 bit) and Linux x86 (64 bit)
Because from edelivery.oracle.com i could see the downloads only for windows and Linux and not specified as 32/64 - bit
so will it mean that the same dump is used for both 32 and 64 bit
    1) Oracle Business Intelligence Data Warehouse Administration Console 10.1.3.4.1 for Microsoft Windows (V16377-01)
can the above dump is used for both 32 and 64 bit windows?
    2) Oracle Business Intelligence Data Warehouse Administration Console 10.1.3.4.1 for Linux x86 (V16378-01)
can the above dump is used for both 32 and 64 bit Linux?
The reason is because for OBIA 7.9.6.3 configuration both the Informatica Power Centre and DAC Server should co-exist
and i could see seperate installer for 32 and 64 bit for both Windows and Linux whereas i couldn't see it for DAC Server
    Please confirm .
    Regards,
    DB

It is supported on both platforms. With Linux however, if you have any issues you can to install in a windows environment, then copy over the folder structure. Also, you can possibly run into issues running the setup.exe on 64bit windows. When you open the install directory, go to dac/disk1/install and run the executable for win32. win64bit can return an error where it says it cannot create certain temp directories. It is a known java bug you can find in the support website.

  • X200: 64-bit Linux guest on 32-bit Windows XP host issues

I'm encountering an issue when trying to run a 64-bit Debian distribution (using VMWare ACE) on a 32-bit Windows XP SP3 Pro installation.  In short, upon launching the VM I receive an error message stating "Your CPU does not support long mode.  Use a 32bit distribution".  I have verified that the Intel VT settings are enabled in the BIOS (ver. 2.02), and have updated to the most recent chipset driver version; no luck.
I was initially encountering the same issue on a T500, but that was subsequently resolved by a BIOS update (to ver. 1.20).  Has anyone else run into this issue with the X200?  Does anyone know if Lenovo is aware of this problem?  I called Lenovo support but was told they could not help me with this problem.  I asked if I could escalate this to an engineer and was also told "no" to that.

Thanks for your response but no, the issue isn't due to the host OS as this works fine on the T61 and T500 series of laptops.  Actually, I initally had the same issue with the T500, but it was resolved by a BIOS update.  My belief is that there is a problem with the way Lenovo has implemented Intel's VT support in the X200 BIOS (Intel VT is the technology that allows you to run a 64-bit guest in a 32-bit host).

  • 64 bit Windows 7 RC-1 drivers on U330

Today, I tried out 64 bit Windows 7 Release Candidate (1) on my new U330.  I've already replaced the stock 1 Gig memory stick with a 2 Gig stick (from good-ol' Crucial Technologies) to bring it up to 4 Gig.
fyi:  According to Device Manager, most devices were detected and accommodated with drivers.  The install hosed my new Ubuntu 9.04/Linux 64 bit install boot-loader menu, but then we have learned not to expect Microsoft to be as tolerant of alternate operating system dual installations as Linux is.
Although the Intel integrated graphics were recognized, there was nothing for the ATI; so, I tried the Lenovo ATI drivers installation (even though 64 bit ATI drivers were not called out, specifically).  The ATI drivers installation removed the yellow Unknown Device flag from Device Manager, BUT the drivers, apparently, aren't working ... and it won't switch graphics.
Three more "Base System Device"(s) are without drivers and one "Unknown Device".  I downloaded and tried the list of Lenovo Vista drivers.  A little right-clicking and "re-scanning for hardware changes", finally, recognized 3 Ricoh devices.
Most things seem to work, including the wireless networking.  The Broadcom, NetLink and Bluetooth devices are also accommodated.  The Optiarc DVD and Human Interface Devices, including Window HID CIR seem 'ok'.  The Batteries, Computer, Disk drives, IDE controllers, IEEE 1394, Imaging devices (EasyCamera), Keyboards, Mice and other pointing devices, Monitors and Network adapters, Processors, SD Host adapters, Sound and game controllers all seem happy.  A long list of "System devices" and USB controllers all seem accommodated.  Though I didn't see the Synaptics called out, it's working and I'm using it.
In the end, the only "Unknown device" was labelled "ACPI\VPC2004".  I think I came across that somewhere in this forum; so, I'll have another look ...   That's not as big a concern as the ATI drivers, required for HDMI output to an external monitor; if I could find some 64 bit ATI drivers, we'll be "cookin' with gas".
btw, this 64 bit Windows 7 is pretty snappy.  If at first you don't succeed (with Vista), have another go at it (Windows 7) !

    > the power management driver for the Y530 and it will go away <
    What (?) will go away?
Elsewhere, I found a thread noting that if one changes the video to "Discrete" in the BIOS, it will recognize the 64 bit Catalyst AMD ATI drivers.  That seemed to work.
I wonder where the Windows switchable capability comes from?  I've seen it before; it's gone, now.  I don't know which driver provides the capability to switch video chips without rebooting.  However, with the 64 bit Catalyst AMD ATI 'hotfix' installation I seem to be able to control it at the BIOS level by switching from "Discrete" to "Switchable" (which yields the integrated Intel 45 video chip set).
As to the Y530 64 bit power management drivers, they installed.  I'll wait and see if they make a battery-life difference, especially in integrated (Intel 45) mode.

Right where do I start...... I got the latest drivers installed, "What You Hear" was working for about oh four recordings then stopped and back to choppy recorded sound, I went through alll options and nada. So I downloaded Audacity to see if this was a problem with Wavelab and re-tried. Well same thing choppy sound and even rebooting did not help. So I will be taking EVERYTHING!!!!!! CREATIVE off my machine, if these idiots cannot be bothered to release drivers that work then I'm going elsewhere. My music creating will have to be put on hold, my 22m will still have to sit in it's box.
Creative you are all a bunch of ?$"?%$%" idiots period. You have ALWAYS (till now in my case anyway) had good drivers. Even though Windows 7 has been in RC for ages you (absolutely missed that boat, hell you didn't even get up to try to catch it) cannot be bothered to write drivers that work and your idiotic half cooked attempts at customer service to give your bread and butter (that's right your customers who keep you in business) solid drivers are an absolute joke. YOU CAN KISS MY SHINY METAL HINEY!!!!! (thanks Bender lol). I am going to my onboard drivers. Thanks Creative (the name "creative" is kind of contradiction in itself, you should look up the meaning of the word lol). Oh and I will be advising EVERYONe who thinks of upgrading to Windows7 to avoid Creative hardware.

  • Can't invoke scim in an AIR app on 64 bit suse linux 12.1 or 12.3

We have a substantial AIR application that supports Japanese input.  On 32 bit Suse Linux 11.1, we could invoke scim by putting the focus on a text input field and doing ctrl-space.  That would bring up a small scim window on the lower right, and we could enter some Japanese in the field.  Now we have moved to 64 bit Suse Linux 12.1 (and 12.3), and ctrl-space doesn't seem to do anything any more in our flex application, or even a tiny application that consists of only 1 text area.  This is with AIR 2.6.0-19120. scim will come up with the same tiny test app on 11.1 though (w AIR 2.6.0-19170).   On the 12.1 and 12.3 systems scim will come up for other applications, such as just a konsole window, Firefox, or Eclipse, all of which I can type Japanese text into using scim.
I realize AIR on Linux is no longer officially supported, but if anybody knows how to make this work, I'd love to hear about it.  I've tried various environment variable settings, but haven't found the right one(s) yet.

    And specifically this part:
Error: "Error While Sending Command to HBR Server Running Within the EAS Server"
    Symptoms
CmdLnLauncher utility fails with the following error,
"Error while sending command to HBR Server running within the EAS server."
    Cause
JDK 1.6 installed on the server. This is picked up as the default Java Runtime resulting in issues running CmdLnLauncher utility. The 11.1.1.x release supports JDK 1.5
You can verify what version of Java is installed on the server by executing command 'Java -version' from a command prompt.
    Solution
Uninstall JDK 1.6 and install version 1.5.
If uninstalling is not an option you can perform the following steps to workaround the issue:
    1. Edit CmdLnLauncher.bat
    2. Add path to JRE 1.5 before -DHBR_HOME
    Example of CmdLnLauncher.bat:
    set CPATH=..\lib\CmdLnLauncher.jar
    set CPATH=%CPATH%;..\lib\easclientplugin.jar
    set CPATH=%CPATH%;..\lib\log4j-1.2.8.jar
    set CPATH=%CPATH%;..\lib\framework_common.jar
    set CPATH=%CPATH%;..\lib\eas_common.jar
    rem set CPATH=%CPATH%;..\lib\jaxp-api.jar
    rem set CPATH=%CPATH%;..\lib\jdom.jar
    set CPATH=%CPATH%;..\lib\dom.jar
    set CPATH=%CPATH%;..\lib\xercesImpl.jar
    C:\Hyperion\common\JRE\Sun\1.5.0\bin\java -DHBR_HOME=..\.. -cp %CPATH% com.hyperion.hbr.cmdlnlauncher.CmdLineLauncher %1 %2 %3 %4 %5 %6
    3. Save Changes to CmdLnLauncher.bat file.

  • SunPKCS11 in 64-bit windows

I use the SunPKCS11 provider for signing data. It works for 32 bit machines 2000/xp but not in windows 7 64 bit.
Moreover, the java pkcs11 guide says:
The Sun PKCS#11 provider is supported on Solaris (SPARC and x86) and Linux (x86) in both 32-bit and 64-bit Java processes. It is also supported on 32-bit Windows (x86) but not currently on 64-bit Windows platforms due to the lack of suitable PKCS#11 libraries.
When this is expected to be resolved by oracle?
    Also, are there any alternatives?
What about changing the signing algorithm? I use sha256withRSA.
Edited by: themoisis on Jun 6, 2011 8:08 AM

It's a long time ago. I can't remember whether it slotted in under or instead of the Sun PKCS11 driver.
Later: having had a look at the IAIK site it appears it provides its own API that looks like the PKCS#11 API but object-oriented. I don't remember having to write any Java code to use it however so there must have been some kind of auto-integration, I don't remember at what layer. It is even possible that the client bought the Provider product and had me port the Wrapper layer to AIX. The client was already using the full IAIK JCE Crypto provider in the project for other reasons.

  • 32-bit JDK in 64-bit Windows 8.1

Should 32-bit JDK + NetBeans bundle install on 64-bit Windows 8.1?
I tried, and in the beginning of installation it said "rebooting" and then the system rebooted.
No warnings, and nothing got installed.
64-bit JDK alone installs fine, and so does 32-bit JRE.
My problem is that I need both JDK 8u20 (preferably with netbeans) for a project, and Java-capable Firefox for some company internal "office tools".
It just looks like 32-bit JDK doesn't install, and Firefox can't use 64-bit JRE.
Do I have to use Linux in a VM to have both?

Install each individually and you should be fine. I've had problems with the multiple product installs before, specifically Java and Netbeans.

  • Hyperion Planning on 64 bit Solaris. ODI on 32 bit Windows.

    Hi,
I have Hyperion planning on 64 bit Solaris and ODI installed on 32 bit windows server. Could not reverse a planning app in ODI.
The error message says - Could not connect to Planning instance.
I have checked the RMI service at port 11333 on solaris and its running. I can telnet to this port from the windows server successfully.
Has any one come across such an issue before or knows of any issues regarding this?
Any help will be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks.

I had a problem with ODI being on linux and planning on windows.
I could telnet the ping / telnet across between boxes. When reversing it could connect to planning but could not return, it turned out to be an issue with loopback on linux that had an extra ip of 10.0.0.0
I removed the loopback from the host and it started reversing without a problem.
If you telnet then maybe it is some sort of routing host file issue.
    Cheers

  • For a Compaq IJ300 printer I need a 64-bit, Windows-8.1-compatible driver.

Hello. I think I may have adapted my Compaq IJ300 printer for potential use with my new, presently 64-bit, Windows-8.1-operating-system-loaded notebook computer, which has four Universal Serial Bus (USB) ports, but no parallel ports, by purchasing a parallel-to-USB cable to connect between that printer and my new notebook computer.
My short question: How may I obtain just a 64-bit, Windows-8.1-compatible driver for the Compaq IJ300 printer? (not a computer program to scan for needed driver updates, a procedure which has unfortunately failed to lead me to the driver I want in so far at least two instances)

Thanks, Ban Hien, for kindly taking some time to post some information here. I verified that via http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/softwareCategory?cc=us&lc=en&products=217385 no drivers for the Compaq IJ300 printer newer than for Windows 98 were supplied there. Nevertheless I used that printer in Windows XP Home Edition in an older notebook computer in probably the year 2013 before I no longer could “power up” that computer! Looking at my notes from July 19, 2010, after connecting that printer to my old notebook computer Windows XP reported “Found New Hardware Lexmark Inkjet 4100,” probably for finding the Lexmark 12A1980 color cartridge in the Compaq IJ300 printer at that time, and “Found New Hardware Compaq Inkjet IJ300” for I suppose locating a driver from within Windows XP Home Edition for the Compaq IJ300 printer.
The Web page http://support.microsoft.com/kb/293360 indeed shows that the Compaq IJ300 printer is supported by Windows XP. I read that it is on a Windows XP operating system Compact Disc or else can be obtained from http://www.driverguide.com/driver/detail.php?driverid=133838&si=bb941f1db37cb35ad6ad9b8e7da36bd8. The resource http://www.driverguide.com/ appears to be a place on the Internet through which one may be able to obtain individual drivers for pieces of hardware. Within that Web site I read that one user found that a Lexmark Z11 driver could used with a Compaq IJ300 printer in probably Windows 2000 with Windows 2000 identifying that Compaq IJ300 printer as a Lexmark Z11 printer. Unfortunately I could not find a 64-bit, Windows-8.1-compatible driver for either the Compaq IJ300 or Lexmark Z11 printers within http://www.driverguide.com/ or http://www.lexmark.com/; the newest Lexmark Z11 probably driver available via the latter Web site was for only Windows 2000 and 32-bit Windows XP. The Web page http://www.hardwaredata.org/index.php?driver=109025 reports a Windows-8 driver for the Compaq IJ300 printer. But using that Web site's computer program DriverDetective.exe to scan my present notebook computer's hardware with the Compaq IJ300 printer connected to the parallel-to-USB cable, which in turn was connected to a USB port of my computer, the Compaq IJ300 printer was not “noticed” by that hardware-scanning program. A pure speculation of mine, not something I know to be a fact, is that because 64-bit, Windows 8.1 did not “notice” the Compaq IJ300 printer, that particular hardware-scanning program might have followed Windows 8.1's lead and also did not “notice” the connected, Compaq IJ300 printer. So if the information at http://www.hardwaredata.org/index.php?driver=109025 is correct, there might actually be a Windows-8 driver for the Compaq IJ300 printer that that scanning program never recommended because it did not “see” the Compaq IJ300 printer.
It seems logical that if one has the source code for a driver in use by one Windows operating system, knows the intimate details of that and a newer version of Windows, and knows how to write computer code in the computer language of the driver, then he might be able to take the source code for the driver that works in Windows XP and modify it to work for 64-bit, Windows 8.1. Then after that I suppose he might have to compile and link that source code to make the driver usable by a Windows-8.1 operating system. In a Linux operating system I have been told that the driver source code for a device can be compiled with I think the kernel source code to make a new version of the Linux kernel which includes the function of that new driver. On this adventurous subject I have here at least sometimes been writing well beyond my experience and/or knowledge. But at http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/windows/hardware/ff554644(v=vs.85).aspx there are instructions on how to use the Windows Driver Kit to “build” (probably to compile and link) a new driver using I think a starting version of a driver. More speculation on my part is that because Hewlett Packard has not been supplying a Windows XP driver for the Compaq IJ300 printer, perhaps someone may have used something like the Windows Driver Kit in the making of a driver usable for this printer in Windows XP.
