5.1 Audio channels periodically reverse - X-fi in Vista latest Creative Driv

Hiya,
I have a 5. sound setup, and periodically the sound channels flip. The front channels get set to the middle channel, middle channel to the back, and back to the front. This happens seemingly randomly, but I notice it happen mostly while gaming and listening to music. It'll just switch, and sometimes it even switches back on it's own. But usually I need to switch modes to entertainment then back to gaming to get it to 'reset' and have the channels set correctly.
Is this a common issue? Know fixes/workarounds?

I've noticed some weird sound channel issues while listening to Music, using CMSS-3D (Surround). Haven't seen it while gaming, though.

  • Reverse audio channels (PCI express X-Fi titanium)

2Reverse audio channels (PCI express X-Fi titanium)& Hi,
Today I bought an X-Fi titanium *hoping* it would have the option in the drivers to reverse my left channel to right channel and vice versa.
I have gone through a lot of trouble trying to achieve this and would definitely appreciate the help in finding a solution.
Why do I need this? When playing games I hear everything reversed *IN MY HEAD*. If I hear something left... it's actually on the right. Thats why I have to either reverse my speakers or wear my headphones backwards. BUT... I have a 00$ headset that doesnt allow me to reverse my headset because it only wears one way.
My game doesnt allow me to reverse the stereo. Does the creative X-Fi software/driver allow this in *any* way?
    I appreciate the help!

VLC media player can reverse than stereo chanels for music and movies but i don't know of a way to apply it to games. [email protected]

  • Feature Request:  Modify Audio Channels from the Timeline in Premiere CC.1

Why have we never been able to modify audio channels once a clip is added to a sequence?  I'm guessing there's a good reason Adobe has never had this feature.  The lack of this feature is explicitly mentioned a few times in the audio section of the Premiere Pro CC manual, as if it's a benefit NOT to have it.  But the benefit is entirely lost on me.
In my workflow, I synchronize my double-system video and audio before anything else.  I do this in PluralEyes (and unfortunately I'll have to keep doing it this way, until PPr's sync on sound feature gets fixed—for me it's never worked).
Once PluralEyes has synched hours of footage and audio and placed it on a PLURALEYES GENERATED sequence, I import that sequence into Premiere.  Note:  Since I haven't gone through the step of creating a blank New Sequence, I don't get the opportunity to setup my audio channels the way I'd like in my sequence (i.e. Stereo recordings should occupy ONE track, not two.  Typically these tracks come from a camcorder and are used for reference sound, or ambient noise at best, so I don't need them taking up precious real estate in my sequence).
Since PluralEyes doesn't merge my clips for me (or rather I don't want it to since I'm usually doing multi-cam sequences where I want to keep all 14, or so, tracks of audio), I have to go through the clips one by one and do a Merge Clip action once I've adjusted any minor sync issues, or determined which tracks I actually want to keep.  But, and here's the key, at this stage I'm not yet 100% certain whether I'll use the nat sound or the wireless mic sound (separate audio recorder, etc).  Furthermore, I don't really want to think about that at this point.  After I've spent a few mind-numbing hours just ingesting files, sync and merges, I want to jump into the edit as soon as possible, before I lose all will to finish this edit.  If I modify my audio channels right now, I'll lose the ability to make some creative decisions later on.
I'd like to start whacking out an assembly edit.  And then after I have a rough program, I can start looking at which audio tracks (nat or double-system) I like better in each circumstance.  This is where I become stumped that at this stage, I'm locked into whatever audio channels I've setup (or not) in the earliest stage of the edit, back before any media was actually on the timeline!  It's at this stage, and usually only at this stage that I want to start Modifying Channels—FROM THE TIMELINE!
Does anyone else feel the same?  If not, what is your workflow?
Feature Summary:  Right-click on any clip, (master clip, sub-clip, merged, nested or otherwise) in the timeline and choose Modify > Audio Channels.
I've submitted a feature request, with a link back to this discussion, so please pipe in—especially if you want this feature.

Maybe its your specific workflow, asset mangement  and use of a 3rd party application that  runs you into an issue.
Take Pluraleyes out of the equation, I would imagine my workflow is the same as most everyone else.  Find footage in the Media Browser.  Import it.  Create a Sequence and start editing.  Use the Source Monitor to set Ins and Outs and then Insert the clip on the timeline.
At this point, if the audio needs to be modified, it cannot be done on the Timeline.  The workaround, of course, is to Find Clip in Project; Modify Audio in the Project panel; then do a Matchframe to replace the audio clip.  This works, but requires many steps per clip.  Also, Matchframe in Premiere Pro CC is not reliable.
Introducing a new Modify Audio (from Timeline) feature as seen in the fantasy screenshot above would solve it.
I dont use Pluraleyse ...which I understand to be a synching aid...so I dont know the workflow it imposes on one .
Returning to Pluraleyes workflow, this issue is compounded by the need to Modify almost ALL audio.  Every stereo track is separated and placed on two MONO tracks taking up precious real estate.  This is not something Pluraleyes imposes.  It is due to the way Premiere imports XML timelines.  This would apply to sequences imported from Final Cut as well.
In this case it would be ideal to select both the LEFT and RIGHT mono tracks and choose "Modify > Audio Channels > Merge L/R Mono to a Single Stereo track."  Ideal?  No.  I guess Ideal would be if Premiere would interpret XML files properly in the first place.
What actually is the issue with Premieres synch and merge workflow in your case?
Audio Sync in Premiere Pro doesn't work.  Period.

  • Swapping audio channels in one movie

    Hi,
I ripped the music video of The Streets, "Fit But you Know It" from the DVD of The Football Factory using Handbrake, and it turns out that the stereo channels are reversed: left is right and vice versa.  This is a source problem, and not one created by the encode process.  What's the simplest way of swapping the audio channels for this movie only?
I'd rather not re-encode the rip in the process, in order to avoid quality degradation.  Handbrake GUI, unfortunately, doesn't offer any options for swapping the channels during encode.  I tried using QuickTime 7,  and was able to re-assign the channels in the Properties window, and then save the file as a self-contained movie.  Unfortunately, QuickTime X ignores the change in the new file, even though QuickTime 7 recognizes it.
Suggestions?  The resultant file should be natively compatible with QuickTime 7, QuickTime X and iTunes.
    S.

I would leave it mono in the timeline and export to stereo.
It wont be real stereo but you will have the same audio on both channels.

  • Map audio channels of items in sequence?

I'm fairly new to Premiere CS4 (FCP guy). I have rough cut a piece with interviews recorded on ch.1 and b-roll. I've used Fill Left which works, but I was hoping to use Map Audio Channels to avoid chasing filters all over the place.
I found that I could remap the channels of items that were not yet edited into a sequence, yet, when I opened clips that were edited into my sequence, the controls to change mapping were grayed out.
Is there a way to do this?

In this case, though, I don't see how remapping my audio would do anything but exactly what I want to do.
Well, the reason is that Premiere treats audio differently than FCP does. In FCP, every audio track in a sequence is a mono track, period. You have no other options. Even if you import or capture a stereo audio clip (let's say a CD audio track, for instance), the two channels of the source clip are mapped to mono tracks: the left channel would go to to A1, and the right channel would go to A2, for example. You can create "stereo pairs" in FCP by selecting two clips on adjacent tracks and pairing them (which I believe automatically applies stereo panning, ie. hard left and hard right), but at their base level they are still mono tracks.
Premiere is different, however, in that you can have mono tracks, stereo tracks, and 5.1 tracks in a sequence, or any combination thereof. As such, a source clip can only go to a matching track in a sequence; for example, a stereo source clip can only go into a stereo track in your sequence. This is where source channel mapping comes into play. You can instruct Premiere to treat the stereo audio track of a clip as two mono tracks, for example, with the end result being that those tracks WON'T go onto a stereo track in a sequence. They will ONLY go onto mono tracks (two of, to be exact) in a destination sequence.
So if you've already used a stereo clip in a sequence, it has to be on a stereo track. Premiere will then prevent you from remapping those audio channels because of the identity of the destination track in the sequence, meaning that remapping from stereo to two monos won't work once the clip is in use. If you remap the channels before using the clip, you're golden. Hope that helps; it's simply a matter of the differences in the way the two programs work.
Regarding titles: this is another case of the way two programs work. In FCP, titles are an effect, and so have no reference to any sort of "source," which is why you can copy and paste and change and the original stays the way it was. In Premiere, a title is a "synthetic" clip and therefore has a "source" so if you change the parent all of the children change as well. However, you can work around this by copying and pasting your title, double-click the copy to open the editor, and then click the "New Title Based on Current Title" button (looks like a film frame with a capital T in it). Name your new title and edit it. When you close the titler, you'll have a new title in your bin. Drag it from the bin and while holding the Alt key, drop it on the copy already in the timeline--this will replace the content of that clip instance in the timeline and maintain any effects or transitions you'd placed on the clip.

  • Get 4 audio channels out through SDI whit BlackMagic UltraStudio Express

    Hi,
We have some issues with the Blackmagic UltraStudio Express and Premiere Pro.
We need to get out 4 audio channels through SDI for different broadcast and news feeds. We can't do that with the UltraStudio Express on different Mac Book Pro (one on OS 10.9 and one on 10.8.5) with Premiere pro CC and Premiere pro CS6. (We have try with the driver 9.9.3 and 9.6.8). The only thing we manage to monitor out of the UltraStudio is 2 audio channels.
We know it "could" work as :
    - We are able with the same setup to get 4 audio channels via FCP 7.0
    - We are able with a Mac Pro OS10.8.5 + Blackmagic Decklink HD Extreme 2 (driver 9.6.8) to get 4 audio channels with Adobe Premiere CC
Do you have maybe a solution for this ?
    Have a nice day !

  • My ipod's music quality is inferior. It doesnt have the surround sound/ left and right audio channel unlike my brothers ipod? is there a problem with the chip?

I have an ipod touch 4g (8GB), I got this about 2.5 months ago, the same time my brother get his. My problem is that I noticed that audio quality is better on his device than mine. I have been listening to music and had different music devices before (non-Apple product and mobile phone) and the quality of music is better when I used to listen to those devices as well as my brother's ipod touch. Im referring to the left and right audio channels. Im not so good about the technical stuff but the best explanation I can give you is in a music or a movie, there's an effect wherein you can here a sound only at the left ear phone/speaker that you cant hear at the right earphone/speaker. I mean for example in a song, a guitar intro can be heared only at the left
ear while the background music plays on the other ear. Or when theres and echo effect on the song that alternates sound on the left and right ear. I hope youre getting what Im trying to say. Im bothered that my ipod is fake or has an internal problem on the chips or something because I didnt bought this at an Apple Center/Mac Center. I bought it on a retailer. I am not able to visit any store or Genius Bar  or contact an apple specialist through phone because of my work schedule and work load.  I have contacted the retailer before when I tried to return it for replacement or repair but he told me that it is under Apple's warranty, not theirs. I do hope that I can get a help from you because I want to really enjoy my device. Thank you and Im looking forward for the responce/assistance form you.

I suggest you don't apply pressure to the screen - it's a Touch - you touch the screen not push it.

  • How do I export from FCP to a QuickTime file with multiple audio channels?

I'm delivering a project where the first step is to generate an HD Cam SR master, which I will be doing at a post-production lab. They will then do a QC check for me. To generate this HD Cam SR master, they need to me to bring in my 98-minute long movie on a firewire hard drive, in five equal parts -- QuickTime files. From these five QT files, the lab will then be creating an HD Cam SR master that will have...
dialogue on tracks 1 and 2
effects on tracks 3 and 4
music on tracks 5 and 6
    MY QUESTION
    a) I don't see any way to separate these audio tracks accordingly in the FCP menu for QuickTime export. Does anyone have any experience doing this?
    b) And does anyone know the most efficient way to combine timeline audio tracks for this purpose? I have my dialogue sitting on the first FOUR audio tracks, actually. To deliver this film, I'll need to crush these four audio tracks to two, as listed above. I could generate an AIFF file, I suppose, import it back onto the timeline, sync it up, and then re-export along with the visuals to make the final QT file, but this seems like a generation loss.
    thanks,
    Shanked
PS the movie is made up of footage from a Sony PMW EX1. I used the codec "XDCAM 1080 24p 35mbs VBR" for editing in FCP. I'll either export to QT using this same codec or switch to "Apple ProRes" if my machine can somehow maintain the sync.

The following will answer both your questions a) and b).
Click on your master timeline and press cmd+0 (zero) to bring up Sequence Settings, then click on the Audio Outputs tab on the right. Click on the Outputs option and change it to 6. You can leave them as Stereo pairs.
Now, back on your timeline, you need to make sure all your audio is organised so each track. A1, A2, A3, A4 etc has all the relevant media on it.
Then, on the left of the timeline you see the Destination toggle buttons, then you see the Padlocks to lock tracks, then you have the Toggle Auto Select squares. If you right-click on the Toggle Auto Select squares you bring up a little sub-menu, at the top of this list you'll see Audio Outputs, which will show the stereo channels for that particular track. As you've changed the number of Audio Outputs in the Sequence Settings, the list will show: 1&2, 3&4, 5&6. You just tick whichever channels you want.
In your case, you have dialogue on the first 4 tracks, no problem, just go down through tracks 1,2,3 and 4 as described above and assign these to Audio Outputs 1&2.
Then just go down through your music and effects audio tracks and assign them accordingly.
Now, when you export your timeline as a self-contained media file, it will have different audio channels.
I hope that makes sense. When you change the number of audio outputs as described in the first step, I believe the rest of it is fairly self explanatory, once you know where the settings are.

  • Help using multiple audio channels for one video

    Hi,
I have a video file with 3 audio files (stereo (.wav), 5.1 surround (.AC3), and commentary (.wav).
I have placed these on the time line of the video track, but now I need to have buttons to target each of them from a menu. However, when is choose a buttons target, is doesn't give me the option of which audio channel to play (A1/A2/A3 etc).
Is this possible with just one track, or do I need 3 (each with a different audio file as A1)?
    Hope you can help! cheers.
    Tim

    There is a tutorial on setting this up here;
    http://www.kenstone.net/fcphomepage/dvd_languagenattress.html
BTW I would very strongly suggest to compress your WAV files to stereo AC3 files. It will reduce your overall bandwidth, and you will have a disc that will less problems in playing.

  • How do I reduce the number of audio channels in the source or export settings?

I'. trying to export my finished edit through the "movie" setting but keep getting the message that the number of audio channels to create in the exported file must be equal to, or less than the number of channels in the source. I too am getting this error in Premiere CS5.  I was digitizing a Broadcast VHS and since I did not have a breakout box, I hooked it up to a Sony DV deck so I could connect via firewire and capture inside Premiere.  I was able to capture and import 1 of the 3 clips and it did have 4 audio channels attached to it.  However, upon closer inspection only 2 channels had a waveform.  I captured the other 2 clips the same way, but this time, Premiere give the error "The file contains too many audio channels."
    Any ideas?

How do I separate audio channels to edit them seperatly ... they are both in the same clip when I record from two diffrent mics on two diffrent channels

    timc
I do not see a way to separate audio channels to edit them separately in Premiere Elements (any version).
Premiere Elements does have audio effects including Balance, Fill Right/Fill Left, and Swap channels, but that is not what you are seeking.
I would refer you to an audio editor such as the free Audacity for what you want to do.
Splitting and Joining Stereo Tracks - Audacity Manual
I am not sure if this is close to what you seek

But, the opportunity seems to be in Premiere Pro, not Premiere Elements
Please review and consider and then let me your thinking on the matter relating to your Premiere Elements 12 (what operating system).

  • How can I get 2 Mono Audio Channels in, 2 Identical Mono Channels Out?

I use Premiere CS6. Most of my work requires simply editing with one audio track used for the on-camera talent's microphone, adding another track for music, and then outputting BOTH of those tracks to the right channel as a mixed mono output AND the same for the left channel (an identical mixed mono output).
Otherwise, I have had problems in the past based on a user's particular playback settings/hardware/etc., and they may only be able to hear one channel or the other (only hearing voice or music). If I can put a mono mix on the right and a mono mix on the left, then I am covered.
SO HERE'S THE QUESTION: What settings do I need to adjust to accomplish this, and how do I set this up as a default for future projects? (I realize that Premiere CS6 has a lot of flexibility when it comes to controlling audio, however, I have read several help articles, and cannot find the answer to this simple question.)

You're overthinking this.  A normal stereo mix with the tracks centered will do the trick.  There are several ways to center the audio.  Option 3 is probably the most efficient.

  • How do I select just one audio channel in Final Cut Pro X?

I know this has been asked and answered somewehre... and I'm pretty sure the answer is simple. But I don't have hour's to search the net.
And the FCPX "Help" feature just ****** me off....
I recorded voice on channel 2 and shotgun nat.sound on channel 1.
I only want the voice track (channel 2) to playback in stereo.
I have already edited the video so I don't want to re-import the raw video to seperate out just the channel 2 voice track.
How do I select just one audio channel in the timeline, then pan it so it plays back in both the L and R channel?
Also, some of the audio was recorded with a air conditioner running in the background.  Any suggestions on best audio filers to remove or lessen it?
    Thanks, Barry

I think you want to select the clip in the Timeline, choose the Inspector and then Audio, dual mono.
You can even do this by selecting multiple clips.
In the Event Browser as well.

  • Stereo Audio channel turns to mono when I close and re-open the project

    Hi there,
when I import a random video file with stereo audio channels and put it to the timeline (after peaking), everything works allright - the recording level window shows me the left and the right audio channel.
But when I save and close the project in order to re-open it directly, I only got a mono audio channel (left) and the stereo is away in my timeline and recording level window. The preview of the imported video ist still ok with stereo sound.
Is this a bug ? What can do? Please help me.
    Thanks a lot
