  • 694D Pro Dual CPU Support

    HI Guys,
I'm hoping someone can help me with this.
    I have 2 MSI 694D Pro Mainboards. each running 1 x 866Mhz P3 CPU's
    I have tried upgrading to 2 x 1GHz FC-PGA in each system.
Each system will boot with 1 1Ghz Cpu Installed, but when 2 CPU's are installed the system freezes on Post test.
I have applied Bios Ver 1.9 as the one's after this state 694D Pro AR and AIR.
    Please help if poss.
    Thanx

Well I don't know what's going on then, cos it is definately a 733.
During the boot the display showed PIII 1000Mhz, 2 CPUS and on the post bios results table it showed all the normal Ide devices etc but also depicted the Cpu's as being 1000Mhz/733Mhz.
So it definately picked it up correctly.
I must have a Gremlin in the system somewhere, all I can say is that I now have 1 Dual P3 1Ghz working fine with Windows XP Pro.
I'll let you know on the second system, I will flash the Bios with the same as the other board V3.2 before doing anything else.
    Regards,

Does 694D even support dual Celerons? as I recall it will only support dual P!!! (preferably Coppermines) will not support Tulantins either, nor dual VIA C3.

  • 694D Pro - Dual turned single?

    Hi,
I've got a strange problem: my mb (ms-6321) can't complete the diagnostic test. It gets up to stage 6 (0110) and starts all over. I tried removing some memory / changing memory slots - same problem. I tried removing a few cards - same problem. Last, I tried removing the secondary processor - and it worked. I switched processors in the main socket (to make sure it wasn't the secondary processor's fault) - and it worked again. So, I seem to have a problem with both processors installed. This machine has served me flawlessly for 4 years, and only lately, following some renovations in my study that generated lots of dust, this problem occured.  I also tried disassembling the machine, dusting all the parts and re-assembling. Nothing.
    Can this problem be fixed?
    Sincerely,
    Erez Hadad
    https://forum-en.msi.com/images/msi/smilies/crying.gif
    BTW: my configuration:
    MS-6321 (694D Pro) + BIOS v1.9
    512MB ECC memory
    HD WD 80GB/7200RPM/8MB buffer
    Graphics: Voodoo 5 5500
    1394 adapter
    CDROMx52, Floppy, Keyboard (PS/2), mouse (PS/2).

    Hi Wonkanoby,
First, thank you for your time. Second, How do you search for something like that? I have no experience in microelectronics and the board looks fine - no fluids or stains. Got any further hints?
    Sincerely,

  • Conflict between Logic Pro and external device error in Logic Pro X./cpu problems

    hi Logic users,
    using a MacBookPro 15 inch Retina, 2,7 GHz intel Core i7, 16 GB Ram, OSX 10,8,5, Logic X 10.0.4.
i am wondering if you can help me out with the following problem i cant solve:
when starting logic x with a not too big arrangement, lets say using one third to half of cpu, i open u-he plugin Diva and the cpu is going up on full range and the following error appears: "sample-rate 39299 (number always changes) reconized. Check conflict between logic pro x and external device"
as external device im running a VirusTi and as audio-device Apogge Duet. when dis-connecting both devices, i have the same problem.
putting the sample buffer up to the highest rate, doesnt change anything.
same arrangements on friends computers dont show that problem, so it has to be something wrong in my set up.
    anybody has an idea?
would be much appreciated for your help,
    thanx-

Have you used Diva's preset Accuracy system to reduce CPU load?
    accuracy
Click on the Main button at the bottom of the window. To the right of the Master section are two selectors called Accuracy and OfflineAcc. In the current version of Diva these are global parameters i.e. they remain fixed across all presets, per loaded instance:
draft........CPU-friendly, but FM will sound rough and resonance is primitive i.e. NOT zero delay! fast......... Fine for older computers and/or when you need more polyphony in acceptable quality great...... The best compromise between quality and polyphony on high-power computers divine..... Top-quality zero delay feedback filters... but can your computer can handle it?
OfflineAcc only has two options – same or best (i.e. divine in the current version).
Some host applications may have problems rendering to audio at the selected accuracy, but the
better ones include an “inform plug-ins of offline rendering status” or similar.
I typically work in draft mode and then switch to Devine or best when freezing the track or bouncing the entire project...

  • Looking to purchase Mac Pro (dual CPU) for Aperture/Photoshop

My first question is: Will I be able to upgrade the CPU later on? If I were to get the dual 2.26Ghz setup which is currently the base processor (and, the most affordable option), would I be able to purchase the 2.93Ghz CPUs few years down the line and install them?
I certainly know that memory can be upgraded, but I'd like this machine (which, is in itself a considerable expense) to last for at least six years with upgrades.
I currently use 2.16Ghz Core Duo MBP with 2Gb RAM (maximum it can take) and my Aperture and Photoshop have trouble running simultaneously while editing 12 megapixel files from my camera.
    Thanks a million guys!

I came from a MacBook, the very first MacBook ever, also maxed out at 2 GB (shared RAM), so I can completely relate to your frustration.
I'm running PS CS3 and Aperture 2 on the Mac Pro with the dual quads and am quite happy. My XSi also generates 12 MP RAW files. 6 GB of RAM is more than enough to run Aperture and PS simultaneously. I can do things like HDR processing with multiple 16-bit TIFF outputs and process them using masking without quitting Aperture. It's just beautiful how much it can do.
The GT 120 seems to be quite capable of making lots of adjustments in Aperture simultaneously without perceivable lag. For most of my non-studio work, I'm retouching, adjusting wb, colors, levels, enhance, and changing exposure settings all at the same time. The GT 120 seems to keep everything I've been able to throw at it, and I throw a lot. It's even speedy while zoomed in at 100%.
At the Apple store, I played with the single quad-core version and was blown away by it's performance as well. Honestly, I didn't perceive any difference between the dual and the single quad versions as far as performance in Aperture and Photoshop. Of course, with half the RAM, you won't be able to have as many layers. When I used the one at the store, I was so blown away, I was afraid the dual quad version was a waste of money.
I wouldn't count on being able to upgrade the processors later, but my biggest concern is that we won't ever be able to really take advantage of all the power the Mac Pro already offers. When you output from Aperture, it's really not that fast, the machine just spends all it's time waiting for the hard drive anyway. The Mac Pro is a server-grade machine through and through. As a still photographer, I can assure you, you'll be blown away by the power of Nehalem and bummed at your inability to use it anywhere near it's full potential. It'll take YEARS for Intel's consumer-grade processors (like the i7) to catch up with the Xeons, and even then, they probably won't support ECC RAM. And each core can handle two sets of instructions at the same time, so virtually, the dual-quad has 16 cores.
With the amount of focus being placed upon harnessing the power of GPU, the power of the CPU is likely to have less and less impact on the speed of your machine as time passes. If you're worried about the RAM ceiling of the single quad Mac Pro, buy the dual-quad, but I wouldn't worry so much about the clockspeed. You should keep in mind, Aperture can't handle the multiple graphics cards, so I'd get a single GT 120 and consider buying something more substantial later, *after you get Snow Leopard*. Snow Leopard is going to use the GPU in ways we've never seen before and I predict it will be a game-changing release.
I'd also check out the refurbs! Hope this helps!

  • 4-Port IOGear KVM (DVI, USB) and Radeon 9600 Pro (dual G5) Problem

I recently bought a 4-port KVM with DVI video and USB support for keyboard and mouse. I have the KVM hooked up to my dual processor G5 with DVI, to the ATI Radeon 9600 Pro video card in it. When I switch between my Windows Vista PC and my Mac (both running 85hz refresh rate and 1280x1024 resolution), the video is fine on the PC, but the Mac video is first initialized at 800x600 at 60hz. After about 3 seconds, it switches to 1280x1024 at 85hz, but this screws up my program views. I run Final Cut Express HD and DVD Studio Pro 2.0 and the windows in these programs are totally messed up. I have tried updating the drivers to the newest one from ATI, leaving the KVM on until Mac OS X Tiger is totally booted up to my desktop, before switching to one of my PCs, and updating the firmware on the KVM. Has anyone else had this problem? Any ideas to correct this problem? Thank you for your help!

Problem solved.....I used a little shareware program called SwitchResX:
    http://www.madrau.com/html/SRX/About.html
Fabulous little problem solver. You can set up custom resolutions of just about any dimension, although I only tested my needed resolution, and magically once you restart the machine, the resolutions are available in the Display preferences pane. If the display doesn't look right at first, i.e. shifted to the left or right, keep playing with it and perhaps switch back to a different resolution and then back to your custom res and all should be well. 75 Mhz as a refresh rate seemed to make my video card and the monitor happiest.
    Cheers.

  • 2007 Macbook Pro having CPU problems

My macbook pro has been acting weird recently. It's been running slower, and things have been happening like...
When i watch Youtube videos sometimes, when i try to fullscreen the video, the computer takes a long time to do it sometimes and other times the computer will log out completely.
I'm a musician, and I'm trying to use Pro Tools, but even with everything closed and only one instrument open on Pro Tools, i'll get CPU overload error messages.
I have 2GB of RAM which should be enough to run Pro Tools decently.
I have 18 GB of space free on my hard drive.
I downloaded SMART Utility and it said my hard drive is fine.
    Any ideas?
    Thanks,
    TJ

I suspect your CPU is fine however you need to increase your HD storage. Mac's need a minimum of 10-15% of the HD available at all times to run well. For example if you had a 250GB HD you would need a minimum of 25-37.5GB available. What tends to take up lots of space is media (music, video & photographs) if you off load these onto an external HD that will help.
Also 2GB of RAM is a very minimal amount. Run your computer normally then open Activity Monitor (Applications - Utilities - Activity Monitor), then click the *System Memory* tab. If your computer has around 500MB or less FREE RAM then you need a RAM upgrade too. In short this would mean your system is starved for RAM.
Finally you may have unwanted or unnecessary apps opening at login. To check and remove open System Preferences - Accounts - Highlight your account - Login Items - then select the apps you want to remove from login and click the - symbol at the bottom of the box.

  • Mac Pro Dual Monitor Problem

I have a MacPro 4,1 with an ATI Radeon HD 5770 video card. I'm running OS X 10.6.8.  I have an Apple 20" Monitor and a Hannspree 23" monitor.  The problem I have is that when the computer goes into standby mode, 2 times out of 5 it will come back up with the primary monitor switched from the Apple to the Hannspree.  I then have to go into the Display Preferences and switch the monitor arrangement, and the menu bar.  Not a huge problem I grant you, but one that is vexing me nonetheless.
Also on an occasion...perhaps 1 time out of 25 the Apple monitor has a case of the jaggies, and is only fixable by shutting down the whole computer and restarting.  This is really bad, considering it reminds me of when I get migrane headaches and my vision is constricted.  It almost makes me nautious.

    Apple's has three, 2xMDP + DVI

  • Dual CPU prob w/ MSI 694D Pro-AIR v1.0 (MS-6321)

I am having some difficulties with my MSI 694D Pro-AIR V1.0 (MS-6321). It will only boot up when one processor is installed (in CPU1 Socket).  Both CPU's work in CPU1, when only one processor is installed.  I haven't powered up the machine in over a year, but everything worked fine then.  I have tried different video cards, etc...  When I have two processors installed the DLED light alternates green from 3 to 4 continuously.  What does this mean?

Re-flashing BIOS does not seem to help the situation.  I am experiencing the same problem.  If I set the FSB manually to 66/83/100 with both processors installed the board will start POST and then freeze after memory is tested and '2 CPUs' is printed on the the screen, I am not able to get into the BIOS.  Motherboard works great with one processor (Either one).  I don't get it.  All of the other components check out (both processors, memory, and video adapter tested in a ASUS CUSL2-C), there MUST be a problem with the motherboard.  I am sending it in, unless you have any other suggestions.

  • WinXP problems with MSI 694D Pro v1.0 (MS-6321)

Greetings, i have some serious problems with WinXP install with my "brand new" MSI 694D Pro, PCB Rev 1.0 motherboard.
Running with one cpu is just fine, installation and inside windows it's completly stable after chaning a few leaking caps.
However, if running with both cpus I have serious problems installing as well as running Windows.
Once I manged to get in, and then it was 100% 2xPrime95 stable for 6hours.
Latest BIOS, no issues with ram etc.
I narrowed the problem down (I think) to the ACPI identification of the secondary processor on startup. Is this a known problem to v1.0 PCB's of this board, is there a workaround, can one set the ACPI ID manually.
I'd prefer to run WinXP Pro SP1 on this computer, and sure hope I will not have to be forced to Win 2000 Pro for this issue.
Does anyone have any tips or workarounds?
    Specs;
MSI 694D Pro (MS-6321) with latest BIOS that's supposed to fix WinXP issues
    2x512 133mhz SDRAM doublesided
    2x866/133 256mb cache Coppermine w matching stepping
    More then enough cooling
    HEC 400w PSU
A handfull of HDD's and a few optical units.
WinXP Pro (early release without any SP on install), don't recall build atm sorry.
So far I have tried with diffrent ram, diffrent BIOS's, diffrent PSU's, inside and outside the case, Memtest86 error free, a horseload of diffrent BIOS settings, minimum hardware installed and most things in diffrent compinations.
I'm a hardware geek and is well versed in those checklists so I don't think I have missed anything and is pretty convinced that the other hardware is working as it should, I'm pretty lame on OS handeling thou.
    Anyone?

Everything was just fine once I was in WinXP, thats where I ran Prime95  ... But I only managed that once, I havn't managed to replicate that.
That once I installed with once CPU and the added then second one then rebooted. Realy wierd that I can't replicate that...
    EDIT;
    Some clarification

  • 694D-Pro v1.0 and dual PIII 1GHz

    Hi all.
    I have a MSI 694D-Pro with 2 x PIII 1GHz that I have enormous problems with.
Both CPU's are marked as follows:
    Intel 01 Costa Rica
    1000/256/133/1.75V
    3254A384-0651
    PIII SL52R
The only difference is that where the first CPU has 3254A384-0651, the second has 3254A384-0653.
The motherboard works fine with one CPU, but refuses to boot with both.
I did a quick test where I used one of the 1GHz as first CPU and installed a PIII 800MHz as second, and after some failed attempts it actually booted, saying that both CPU's were running at 1GHz. However, I would naturally like to get the two 1GHz running together.
Can anyone verify that I should be able to use these CPU's, and if so, what I should do to make it work?

You can, with a little tweaking, force a 800MHz CPU to act as a 1GHz, but it is not recommended. I totally understand that I cant run one CPU at 1GHz and the other at 800MHz, but that was never my intention.
I used the 800MHz as merely a test, and surprisingly, it worked. That is one of the reasons Im so puzzled by this.  The system actually managed to boot with a combination of CPU's that should not work, but with two CPU's perfectly suited for this purpose, it just refuses to even post!
    PS.
Im sure the avatar in your post was meant as a friendly joke, but I do not appreciate to be called stupid. Especially not when it concerns computers, which happens to be my area of expertise.

From your subject line, you say you are using a G5. This is the last gen of Power PC processors, not intel. The SDK requires an Intel processor.

  • 694D Pro-AR Dual PIII 1,0 AGP probs?

    Hi,
also running WinFast 250 ultra -ti 4600 GF4
When i enables AGP fastwrites in BIOS my system hangs, AGP4 is already enabled but the VGA Card only runs at AGP2x.
I have updated my BIOS to the latest, and running the latest VIA 4in1
How can i get it to run in AGP4x??
Any help is appriceated, thank you
    -Chris

I have just received my 694D Pro-AR from RMA.  Once I reinstalled all my hardware, now I can't run my ATI All-In-Wonder RADEON in AGP4X and my DVD is choppy (even with my DVD running in Ultra DMA mode).
Also, I can't perform Digital Audio Extraction anymore.
I've reformatted/reinstalled everything anew with all the latest firmware/bios/drivers possible.
Everything was fine before I received my new board (which had blown capacitors on it).
    My system also has:
    2 PIII 800, 512MB SDRAM
    RAID 0 with 2 45 GB harddrives
    ATI All in Wonder RADEON
    Creative SB Live! Platinum 5.1
    Pioneer 16X DVD (105S)
    Plextor Plexwriter 12/10/32A
    etc...
I suspect there may be a something wrong with the new VIA drivers perhaps?
