8900 Dreaded White Screen / Suspected Batt Issue

Hello. I have been getting the dreaded white screen of paralysis after about 10 to 15 mins of talk time or continuous use. When re-connected to the power supply it re-boots and appears to be normal again with the batt bar showing full until the problem re-occurrs again re-starting the same cycle. Effectively this means I have to be close to a power source at all times. All suggestions welcome.

The 8900 is an older device.. around 5 years. Have you tried a replacement battery?
Besides reloading the software using this guide:
http://supportforums.blackberry.com/t5/Device-software-for-BlackBerry/How-To-Reload-Your-Operating-S...
not sure what else could be going on with it.  Are you able to upgrade the device?  I can't guarantee the software reload will resolve the white screen issue.

  • BT Netprotect and the dreaded white screen

I see a lot of negatives on this site about BT Netprotect but it has always worked for me.  My pc has a decent processor and memory bank so resources have not been a problem.  So you can imagine my dismay when Netprotect would not load and simply presented the dreaded white screen.  More dismay when I could not remove it using windows 7 or ccleaner.  Tried all sorts including a big old swear at the inanimate object.  Feeling better at having got my frustrations off my chest I decided that for whatever reason Netprotect had gone.   In a moment of pure genius (blush) I decided to try and reinstall.  I logged into my BT account and followed the links.  Downloaded the files and watched with childlike smugness as McAfee deleted all the old files and reinstalled new ones.   One check for updates and a full scan later and the smugness was at swmbo is gonna slap me levels.  It was worth it, it worked.  If you have the same problem it may work for you.  Downsides, stupid program made me delete Spybot and Malwarebytes as "unsafe", now reinstalled and working fine.  'Ells bells, BT labs use Malwarebytes!  Netprotect may not be perfect, is resource greedy and can frustrate you, but the white screen menace can be beaten.
Of course when I boot my pc tomorrow (okay today now), if I see a white screen and a McAfee logo, swmbo may yet see a grown man cry.....

Glad you got it sorted. Reinstalling often sorts out problem software, having said that I still wouldn't have BTNetprotect on my computer. I have never heard of any other antivirus giving any problems like the amount that BTNetprotect and McAfee does.

  • The Dreaded White screen (display) issue

    Hey guys,
I have the ol' white screen problem. I can mount, restore, and everything just fine but instead of showing menu's the screen shows a white screen.
I have tried all the 5 R's and even restoring again and again. From what i've read here (since my ipod is out of warranty) I'm pretty much screwed and will have to buy a new one. My question is if I wanted to replace the broken part myself, would this be the logic board?
All of this started because I dropped my ipod 2ft onto carpet at work
    Thanks

    Try http://www.iresq.com
They sell replacement parts, but not the logic board.

  • 8900 "dead" white screen--how do I contact RIM for replacement of faulty hardware?

    Hello,
I purchased my 8900 new on eBay After having the phone for less than 6 months, the screen completely went out--it displays a white screen with slightly gray stripes. Phone was not dropped, submerged in water, or damaged in any way.
What is the phone number to contact RIM directly to ask about a replacement? The phone is less than a year old, so should still be under warranty.
    Thanks.

Hello and Welcome to the Forums!
Front line support for BB's is, by contract, not provided by RIM. The carriers and authorized resellers are responsible for front line formal support to end users. It is possible to bypass your carrier and seek assistance direct from RIM, but such involves fees since you are bypassing your support agreement with your carrier. The "Support and Services" tab toward the top of these forum pages provide information about that. But, if you do go through your carrier for support, they can escalate into RIM at no fee to you if they so choose to.
Good luck and let us know!

  • New twist on the dreaded white screen when renting movies

I have been hit with the nasty white screen after renting a movie. After reading the discussion forum, this is apparently a "personality" issue with ATV and Apple has not yet found a fix. However, after performing the "pull-the-plug" reboot, which in the past has corrected the problem, I now have a new problem. When the main menu appears after reboot, it is frozen and it does NOT respond to the remote. The only command it recognized was the menu + "-" reset command. When it resets and comes to the screen asking for restart, diagnostics, or factory reset choices, the remote works. But when you select restart and get back to the main menu, it freezes. (I ran diagnostics and ATV says it feels fine.) For some reason, a bug is preventing atv from recognizing any remote commands. Right now I am in the 24hr movie viewing window, and I will let that period elapse to see if the corrupted white screen rented movie just dies its deserving death and releases the main menu back to my command.
I guess my ultimate ploy would be factory reset, but then aren't I put back in the position of re-syncing my 6,000 songs, and photo library?
    Anyone else have this glitch??

    yes that's correct.

  • Any answer to the dreaded white screen?

Besides "send it back to apple"?
I'm a few months out of warranty. Everything works fine except the screen is bright white. I've searched but can't seem to find any solution other than send it back. Does anyone know what even causes this? Has anyone found a solution or sent it back to apple and found out what the problem is?

    See this.
iPod 5th gen (with video) shows blank or white screen.
Worth a try even though it's not specifically for nanos.

  • The dreaded white screen

just before, i was on my macbook, and noticed it was freezing up alot, i went to force quit some programmes and it froze totally on the force quit box, after waiting 5 minutes, i gave up and manually shut down the computer, when i went to turn it back on, the chime sounded but then stuck to a white screen
how do i resolve this as soon as possible?

Thank you! I've tried and tried to reset it but I never get the apple icon. I never thought to let the battery completely die. Hopefully that works.
I did notice tonight that it doesn't stay on very long after I disconnect from the computer USB. Does this sound like a larger problem? I'm trying to do what I can before I resort to shipping it in for service.
    Thank you!

  • White Screen Not Codec Issue, AV Controls Adjustment

I have installed Quicktime 7.1 Player, Upgraded to Pro. When viewing files in the stand alone player (MOV,AVI, MP4), the video is all white. Selecting "window" then "show AV controls" and adjusting the video brightness to anything other than the default center position, the video plays clearly. Is there a fix to this issue? Can I save the 'adjusted' brightness so the video isnt always white to begin with?
Files viewed in Internet Explorer with the plug-in seem ok, this seems to just affect the stand alone player.

Ok found the answer on a previous post and this worked:
    1. Open the QuickTime Preferences dialog. (On player, select edit then quicktime preferences)
    2. Click on the Advanced tab.
    3. Uncheck "Enable Direct3D video acceleration" (the 3rd checkbox under DirectX).
    4. Click OK.
    5. Close QuickTime.
    6. Try to play the video again. Does it work this time? If not, repeat steps 1 and 2 and try selecting "Safe mode (GDI only)".

  • Any new resolution to the dreaded "white screen of death"?

My 2nd gen. 4GB iPod Nano has been unhappy for a long time now. It still plays music, and I am still able to access iTunes, etc., but the display is either all black or all white, all the time. Since I can no longer see any menus, it plays whatever it wants. Not the best scenario, but better than not playing at all, I suppose.
For a while, I was able to call up the Apple logo and then the menus by simultaneously pressing and holding the top and center of the control ring, but that hasn't worked in quite some time, no longer how many times I try.  As much as I enjoy ABBA, I'm a little tired of hearing them every time I power it up. I know this is a long-standing problem, and I'm hoping that by now someone has devised a solution. Any advice would be much appreciated.

You can do an out-of-warranty replacement at an Apple Store or send it to a 3rd party repair site.

  • Curve 9300 White screen problem, PLEASE HELP!

Hi guys, so basically, I've been having this problem for a little while now of which my phone freezes at a random stage, white screens with the red LED light ON and reboots itself. I have tried several things from this forum so far.
I have backed up the phone on desktop manager
I have re-installed the OS twice now, (downgrading OS's)
I tried to use the phone without the memory card or SIM in, I used an app called 'kik' for a little while, but eventually as suspected it froze, white screened and the issue persisted.
I can easily text one person on the phone, but as soon as I receive a text as I'm typing it freezes the phone, white screens, reboots. Back to square one.
Something you may need to know is that a while ago, I was in a storm, the phone did get slightly wet, and it did actually stop working. I placed it in a tub of rice for the night, and hey presto it worked again, was happy with that, but from just about a few days after it was working fine, it started doing this.
Is it the water damage creating this problem, if so would a repair store be able to fix this problem for me?
The phone is in a tub of rice again right now, doubt it'll make a difference though.
YOUR FEEDBACK WOULD BE GREATLY APPRECIATED, THANK YOU!

Hi and Welcome to the Community!
While the rice trick is good, only waiting 8 hours ("for the night") is dangerous...typically, waiting 5 days in the rice before applying any power is needed, and even then there are no guarantees. Applying power to your BB between it getting wet and doing this process reduces the chances of success. Further, the only thing predictable about moisture intrusion into a BB (indeed, any electronic device) is that the results will be unpredictable. I've seen some come back up right away and be fine. I've seen others never work at all. I've seen still others run for a bit, and then die later. And every thing in between.
From what you describe, I would deduce that the 24 hours in the rice was not long enough, and corrosion continued internally, exacerbated by the application of power, eventually resulting in complete failure.
As for if anyone can fix it...at an internet distance, that is impossible to say. Only in-hand evaluation by a qualified BB hardware technician can provide you with a proper evaluation and estimate.
    Good luck!

  • White screen no logo at startup

When attempting a startup on my Apple iMac (intel based), I get the dreaded white screen with no apple logo. I have searched the internet for information that would resolve this issue to no avail.
I disconnected everything, including a USB devices like the keyboard and mouse. Basically anything connected to the back of the machine. I unplugged the machine, waited ten seconds (sometimes more) then plugged it back in, held down the command, option, P and R keys while attempting to start up. Waited for the startup gong (2 to 3 times) and still get the white screen.
I know there must be something I can do to get my machine back to it's natural working state...but what?
    Anyone have the definitive answer?

Please follow Apple's directions step by step, you may have suffered a hardware failure however before you know follow the steps in Gray screen appears during startup

  • ITunes has a white screen on my iPhone 5

ANyone know how to fix the white screen in iTunes on an iPhone 5?  This is happening on my phone not my Mac. Thanks!

Yep I have the same problem. Started yesterday and I have the dreaded white screen on my iPhone 4S when I try to open iTunes, strange because my iPad is fine. Tried the date thing with no success. Apparently it is a software/server issue that apple are dealing with!!!

  • White screen of death, unable to restore

OK, as the topic states I have the dreaded white screen of death on my G5 iPod video. I had a Powerbook problem that required me to reload all of my software and when I did, I inadvertantly updated iTunes and therefore also updated my iPod. I have always heard to avoid the updates since they may cause glitches and now I'll be much more careful in the future.
I have tried everything I can find on this site and others. I tried the simple reset about 100 times and also putting the iPod into disk mode. When resetting the Apple never appears BTW. In disk mode I can finally see it in iTunes (and on my desktop) but I get the 1418 (?) error when trying to restore. I am unable to erase/restore with disk utility. I can see my iPod under Disk Utility (the size/name/etc) but anytime I try to do anything with it I get an error. I never formatted it for Windows so I can't try those methods. I've tried every combo of button presses, unplugging/reconnecting part way through restore, deleteing iPod updater files, letting the battery drain for several days. Nothing works. White screen resets back to white screen. Or white screen (menu/select) to (select/play) for disk mode which is a dim white screen (kinda gray). BTW....it's out of warranty and the local Apple Store doesn't seem interested in helping me.
Any tips for me before I toss it in the trash and buy a Nano?

    Fixed! Thanks for nothin....

  • White Screen of Death: o2 refurb still in contract - immediate replacement?

Okay, so I have just got the dreaded white screen of death and have tried all the suggestions I've seen here: reset, forced reset, system reset - removed sim card and repeated but to no avail (phone works - can receive calls and connect to itunes okay).
I got this phone from o2 and it's 10 months into an 18 month contract. It was a £99 refurb (it looked brand new).
My question is what's the best procedure?
Should I take it to my closest o2 store, will they replace it there and then? Should I take it to the Apple store.
Anybody have experience of doing this - any suggestions?

Deal with the experts and go to an Apple shop after you've made an appointment with the Genius Bar (or you may be lucky and just walk in to be served). They will have a quick look at the phone and give you a refurb replacement straight away if it is found to be faulty. I've had two replacements over the past 18mths (Original iPhone & 3GS) and the service is excellent.
