9iR2 SuSE 2.4.-7 glibc 2.2-7 (ORA-07445 - crash - )
Has anyone been able to get 9.2.0 running
on Suse w/ kernel 2.4-7 ?
Pulled cpio zip files via otn. Attempts to
build core database via usual scripts fails in
catproc.sql w/ fatal ora-07445 error (sigsegv - code 1
address not mapped to object). Instance crashes.
Database will start and alloc memory ok, just cannot
get through catproc.sql cleanly.
Relink of software appears to work ok ...
Thanks in advance, J
We are running 8.1.7 on 2.2.19 kernel only and oracle 9.0.1 on
2.4.9 kernel only.
Both are running a 120 Gb production database with 300+ users
and we have no problems. Save your self a lot of drama by
installing 8.1.7 only on 2.2.18/19 kernel. (because of glibc 2.1)
It is very stable.

Installation failure with Oracle 9iR2 on OS X on G5
I tried installing Oracle on my new G5 running OS X 10.2 but encountered
errors. Basically it looks
like the database was unable to be created.
I checked the logs and found that there were many errors talking about not
connected to oracle.
On checking the alert logs i found the following errors

Thanks both for your responses.
I use Parallels -- currently on 3186 and contemplating 3188 -- but it always concerns me having the process/memory hit from using the VM environment. Hence, I am also looking at other alternatives.
I participated in the CXMac beta program with some success on general M$ Office Apps, which actually run faster than their M$ Office for Apple equivalents and with no appreciable performance hit on my MBP.
Just before the CXMac Beta program closed, someone posted some feedback about running Oracle Client (Full) and TOAD through CXMac, and I was hoping that someone here would know what the process was for getting this running.
As Crossover Mac (WINE) is replicating Windows32 API's, there is no compile type issues. The tools should (theoretically) install as if in a Windows environment. Unfortunately, nothing is ever that simple, and the Beta program posts I referred to highlighted some required Registry hacks for the Oracle Client install.
I will try with the hacks that you pointed to jpiwowar, but I think there were more steps required.
Thanks again,
Peter. -
Ctxhx doesn't execute in 10g /SuSE 9.2 32bit
I'm not sure whether this is a text problem or an install problem. I'm on a Dell 2850 running SuSE 9.2 32 bit and Oracle 10.1.0.3. At the end of the normal install, I have ctx/bin/ctxhx properly built, but when I ran it as the oracle user, I got a linker error (can't find one libsc_ca.so, if I remember correctly) so I added LD_LIBRARY_PATH into /etc/profile, and now ctxhx runs fine from the command line. I am able to create indexes on unfiltered columns without any problem, but when I try to build an INSO-filtered index with:
CREATE INDEX idx_docs ON all_store(instance)
INDEXTYPE IS CTXSYS.CONTEXT PARAMETERS
('FILTER CTXSYS.INSO_FILTER');
it appears to run through the rows (1'15" for 6000 rows), but no content is created in the index. I haven't been able to find any temp files laying around so I don't know whether extraction isn't happening or filtering isn't happening.
So
--where are the temp files being dumped (and are they cleaned up, or do I have a permissions problem)?
--why isn't ctxhx running on the output?Hey,
We tried that solution. It did not work.
We also find out a patch for the database. Patch n° 4163362, that upgrades the database to 10.1.0.4 and remove INSO_filter in favor of Verity® KeyView® Export© 2004. (Note:298017.1)
The patch worked OK for the index creation.(Except if you use the new names like 'filter auto_filter').
Other functions like ctx_ddl.filter and ctx_ddl.markup completely failed. The error message is ORA-07445: exception encountered: core dump [____strtol_l_internal()+116] [SIGSEGV] [Address not mapped to object] [0x0] [] []).
I give up, and I'm going back to 9i.
if you want the full file feel free to contact me.
Here goes the dump of the error.

Oracle 9iR2 developer stopped working on 10.2.7+
Hi all,
Ive read the other posts about the next full version of Oracle being available on Mac OS X - which is great, cant wait for a date, but for now I have been testing Oracle a lot with the following results;
1. G4 10.2.2 - Oracle 9iR2 runs fine.
2. G4 10.2.6 - Oracle 91R2 runs fine.
3. G4 10.2.8 - Oracle crashes on startup - coredump
4. G5 10.2.7 (minimum for G5) - Oracle crashes - coredump
5. G5 10.2.8 - Oracle crashes - coredump
Weve got some Xserve's too but now theyre already ugpraded to 10.2.8 so weve not even bothered to try Oracle on them as im sure it wont work. There seems to be major library changes from 10.2.7 and up which cause Oracle to coredump on startup (even straight from a clean install). This is disappointing as weve got these new G5's running 1.8Ghz or twin 2Ghz and we cant even get Oracle to run at all. I tried Metalink but of course the Beta developer version is not supported at all so they said to post a message here.
Can anyone help ? how can we get oracle fixed for 10.2.7+ or a new beta version for a G5 ? were dying to test it on our G5's and Xserves.
The error on 10.2.7+ is;
ORA-07445: exception encountered: core dump [0xffff832c] [SIGFPE] [Invalid floating point operation] [0x53BE2BE4] [] []
Thanks,
Stefan

for what it's worth I am running Oracle 9iR2 under 10.2.8 on a G4 Powerbook. It seems stable. JDeveloper works fine and I can access the database from Java programs via JDBC which seems to work well. However, some of the packages such as dbms_java won't load which means some of the XML functionality does not work.

ORA-06510 error in portal install
The portal install fails at 50% and the following is from the
portal install.log:
ORA-06510: PL/SQL: unhandled user-defined exception
Errors encountered in the Install process. Installation Aborted.I also have this problem. Portal configuration/installation crashes at
about 50%.
Maybe it is because my installation lasted more than 2 hours as it
is said in installation program. But on the other hand, I also get no-
data-found error and therefore this should not happen because of
some kind of timeout. Because of this no-data-found I get core
dump in database.
Technical details:
I am using Oracle9i 9.0.1 DB on SuSE Linux 7.2.
DB alert log contains:
ORA-07445: exception encountered: core dump [kzrtevw()+323]
[SIGSERV] Address not mapped to object [0x4] [] []
ORA-06510: PL/SQL: unhandled user-defined exception
ORA-06512: at "PORTAL30.WWSEC_API", line 433
ORA-01403: no data found
Trace file contains current SQL statement:
INSERT INTO WWSEC_MEMBER$ ...
How can NO_DATA_FOUND happen on INSERT?
Portal configuration assistant log file shows that error happened in
step 14: installing seed data for all layers and it ends with error
ORA-03113: end-of-file on communication channel (standard client
error when core dump occurs).
Any ideas how to solve this problem?

Hello,
Recently we have migrated from Oracle 9iR2 on Windows to Oracle 10.2.0.1 on 64-bit Linux. However, one of our scripts stopped working.
Consider the following:
INSERT ALL
INTO Queries_Raw (q_type)
VALUES (dummy)
SELECT dummy
FROM DUAL
where 0 = 1
This query raises an "ORA-03113: End-of-file on communication channel". The Oracle DUMP file contains something like this:
*** SESSION ID:(104.165) 2008-06-11 13:22:48.109
Exception signal: 11 (SIGSEGV), code: 1 (Address not mapped to object), addr: 0x48, PC: [0x19428df, kksfbc()+5175]
*** 2008-06-11 13:22:48.132
ksedmp: internal or fatal error
ORA-07445: exception encountered: core dump [kksfbc()+5175] [SIGSEGV] [Address not mapped to object] [0x000000048] [] []
So obviously this is an internal error. As I mentioned, everything worked perfectly in Oracle 9i. Moreover, I noticed that the problem is related to an "AFTER INSERT" trigger on the target table (Queries_Raw). When I disable the trigger, the operation is executed with no error!!! This is very strange because the trigger does nothing special - all its code has been commented.
Note: My actual INSERT statement is more complex and includes a couple of tables. I simplified it just to test and see what causes the error.
So, did anyone face with such a problem? Is it a bug or is it some kind of restriction in Oracle 10g? I am now trying to register and open an account in metalink to contact the support but it will take some time. Until then any help would be appreciated!
Thanks in advance.
Best regards,

Cannot get Oracle 10g to start on a G5. Floating point exception
After a very painful 10g (EE) installation process i.e fixing all the following:
1) Created the missing /opt directory
2) Installation of XCode 1.2
3) Fixing the root.sh file
4) Downloaded the crstl file provided by Ron
5) Copied /etc/oratab/oratab to /etc/oratab
I tried bringing up the Oracle 10g instance by logging onto Sql*Plus as sysdba and running
startup nomount pfile ='/Users/oracle/admin/db01/scripts/init.ora''. The instance comes up for a few socunds and crashes. This is what i get in the alert.log

Hello All,
I recently downloaded a copy of Oracle 11g for windows and installed it on my windows xp laptop.
I was able to install it without issues but I am unable to create a new database!
A little digging around revealed that there are very less no. of configurable parameters in 11g.
And that we don't have sga_max_size/sga_target anymore! Instead we have memory_target.
But inspite of ensuring all these changes, I keep running to the "end of file on communication channel" error.
Am I missing something here? I am using more-or-less the same approach to creating a database manually, that I have used for 9iR2; 10gR2 .
Any advise will be appreciated.
-AnandHello All,
I tried BOTH dbca as well as Manual Create database statement.
I finally managed to locate the alert log file and found a bunch of ORA-7445 Core Dump errors.
Note: With oracle 11g the background_dump_dest parameter is ignored and the alert log location is defined by the DIAGNOSTIC_DEST parameter.
And it points to:

Cannot get Guest Services to Start on Virtual Domain Controller
I'm running System Center 2012 SP1 Version 3.1.6018.0
Guests all run Server 2008R2 SP1
I'm having a weird issue when trying to install guests services on a domain controller. On all of the virtual machines of the host, when trying to deploy the guest agent, it fails on all machines with the same error:
Error (2940)
VMM is unable to complete the requested file transfer. The connection to the HTTP server XXXXXXX could not be established.
Unknown error (0x80072ee2)
Recommended Action
Ensure that the HTTP service and/or the agent on the machine powstorehv1.gicw.org are installed and running and that a firewall is not blocking HTTP/HTTPS traffic on the configured port.
I have confirmed that there is no firewall blocking the process so in order to bypass this, I decided to just install the guest agent manually. This worked on all of the virtual machines on the host except for the one that is a Domain Controller.
At the point when it tries to start the service it gives me the following error:
Service 'Microsoft System Center Virtual Machine Manager Guest Agent' (ScvmmGuestService) failed to start. Verify that you have sufficient privileges to start system services.
I have tried with and without UAC enabled and I always run the MSI from an elevated command prompt. I've tried with and without MSIEXEC as well. I have Enterprise and Domain Admin privileges as well and have even tried with the domain administrator account.
At this point I'm not sure why I do not have sufficient privileges to start the service on a Domain Controller but I do understand that permissions are different due to its nature.
Any ideas around this either by installing through SCVMM or manually? Thank you in advance for your time! After a very painful 10g (EE) installation process

Any help will be greatly appreciated. You mentioned the 9ir2 release. Do you still have any reference to the 9ir2 software in your environment ? With a little luck you have, and in that case it not so hard to find a solution ...

Install of SAP on Linux -glibc-32bit-8.1-9 for Novell SUSE SLES Linux 10.
Hi All
We are installing the Oracle on x86_64 using Novell SUSE SLES 10.
As per OSS note 841728 , (Installation Proble #8) for SUSE\UnitedLinux x86_64 ) we should have glibc-32-8.1-9 and glibc-devel-32bit-8.1-9 installed.
We have glibc-32bit-2.4-31.30 and glibc-devel-32bit-2.4-31.30 installed on Linux server.
My question are :-
1) Do we must have these files (glibc-32-8.1-9) installed? Or will do with glibc-32bit-2.4-31.30.
As OUI gives following warning during installation :-
Checking recommended glibc version.......failed
2 ) where to get these files from? I was unable to find these RPMs?
Any help is much appreciated.
ThanksDear Hannes
First of all thank you for the reply.
Yes, I am using the "RUNINSTALLER" from SAP directory, but updated "RUNINSTALLER" I downloaded as per OSS note 980426.
Using workaround # 3 , recommended by SAP.
I have downloaded these Oracle CD's (material # 51031676) from service market place 5days ago and they are dated as 11-04-2006.
I have to use OSS note 980426 as I was getting following error

========================================
So, I was more concern about Msg# 4, and that's how I came across OSS note Note 841728 - Installation problem #8.
So, I believe we are OK to go ahead and run the installation of Oracle, isn't it????
Thank you again.

Patch: 8.0.5.1 on glibc-2.1 based SuSE Linux 6.2
See the top of my homepage (http://www.csn.tu-chemnitz.de/~mha/)
The package opatch.rpm there is for SuSE Linux 6.2, a glibc 2.1
based distribution. Oracle 8.0.5.1 needs to be patched if you
want to install it on glibc2.1-based Systems (however,
upgrading an already running Oracle-System from glibc2.0 to 2.1
works without any patches to Oracle - the problem is that Oracle
is relinked during installation, and it must be linked against
glibc2.0).
The package also takes care of some other bugs in the Oracle
installation process. It must be applied to the Oracle
installation
tree before installation, which means you cannot install from
CD. I don3t think this will be a problem - you should have 475MB
left
for running Oracle anyway (475MB is the size of the tree of
Oracle 8.0.5.1 Enterprose Edition)!
PS: A similar (pre-installation) patch for Oracle 8i is on the
way.
nullI would not blame ORACLE - I think the problem is
with the EGCS and the libraries.
I have emails from the linux.devel on these.
For e.g. a simple program such as
#include "stdio.h"
FILE *fp = stderr;
main() {
gives error on Redhat 6.0, Caldera 2.2!
It works on Solaris, IRIX, AIX, Redhat 5.2 and
even with Visual C++ 6!
I have had other programs such as pdksh (ksh) also
dumping on Redhat 6.0 and Caldera 2.2
(even after I compile everything from source!).
I have also had nothing but trouble with other databases
on 6.0. I think new kernels should go through a lot more
testing before being released like this.
I am also debating whether to move back to Redhat 5.2!
