A ? regarding the 6900 router
I currently have Verizon FiOS as my internet provider and they have installed an Actiontec router in my basement. The signal was not strong enough to cover my entire house so I bought the 6900 and put it on my main floor and connected it to the Actiontec with an Ethernet cable (I am not very computer savvy so I am not sure what this type of connection would be called)
today for the first time I tried to connect wirelessly to my Actiontec router and it shows I am connected but I can't surf the web or do anything online even thought it says I am connected. So I tried turning off the 6900 and guess what I was able to connect to the Actiontec and surf the web etc.
Is it possible the 6900 interferes with the Actiontec somehow?
Thanks for your help.
there are a couple of things you need to set before this will work. Disconnect the connection between the routers. on the 6900 router you need to set the wifi channel to something other than what is on your actiontek. So if that is on channel 6 use channel 1 or 11 on your 6900. I would probably set the name to something other than the actiontec so you can recognize which one you are connected to. You also need to set the router ip to something like 192.168.1.254 (assuming the actiontek is 192.168.1.1?) then turn off DHCP. Connect the router using the LAN ports on both ends. There is complete instructions on connecting LAN to WAN and LAN to LAN in the setup manual but that should get you going.

Open letter to Cisco regarding the UC320 platform
Cisco,
I have never in my life been exposed to a "production" piece of equipment with so many bugs, missing features and oddities as the UC320. While I am sure many of you are working hard to reign in the problems, this platform is an utter embarrassment that should be in the preliminary alpha stages, not a channel product being sold to end users.
It is clear that Cisco has little understanding of how SMALL business works and how SMALL partners work with small business customers. A larger partner may be able to string a larger business along with promises of bug fixes and feature additions while charging them to make things right and.or padding the overall cost to account for the callbacks. True small businesses don't have the time, patience or money to deal with problematic hardware. When a partner sells a small business a piece of technology, it better work (at a reasonable cost) or the technology and the partner are out the door.
I was extremely excited when this system was announced and saw great potential for small business customers and an alternative to the Avaya Partner IP and other platforms targeted at the same demographic. I jumped in and put a UC320 in the office of one of my small customers. This whole experience has cost me the trust of a client and is going to end up costing me $3000-$4000 out of pocket (hardware, labor, travel) to make things right with the customer.
As it stands, countless hours have been spent trying to get this system to operate in a reasonably stable and productive manner. At this time the UC320 system has been reset and reconfigured in KEY mode (this time using 2.1.3(0), as the problems with steering digits, call routing and redial in "hybrid mode" made the system more than a little cumbersome to use. Now in KEY mode, caller ID only works on some stations AFTER a call is picked up. On one station, incoming calls are somehow routed to the "Phone Monitor" buttons instead of the "Shared FXO Line" buttons. The user has to press the monitor button to pick up a call, but the call does not always ring at the station so she has to watch for the lights. While the caller ID functionality is a bit better after the latest firmware update, it is still far from working properly. These basic call routing problems are not reasonable and not acceptable, period. The customer is tired of "we are working on it" and so am I.
Other problems (to mention a few):
The GUI is full of buggy behavior. One example if many: The impendence matching dialog only works the first time around and then the GUI loses track of what it is doing and must be reset.
It takes 7-10 minutes for the GUI to load to the login screen over a remote connection. The UC320 is connected to a Verizon DSL, while not blazing fast it is a decent connection. Initial GUI loading on the LAN is almost as bad.
The IE9 product that ships with every new Windows computer is not compatible with the GUI. This is not reasonable.
The AA is somewhat unpredictable with regard to picking up calls and sometimes results in a busy tone and dropped call, even if the call is the ONLY call on the system. Sometimes the prompts are garbled and sometimes the AA does not even pick up.
Steering digit redial issue - still not addressed. Redial on hybrid mode is useless, as is the phonebook.
Caller ID only works part of the time, yet on every other system I have ever used, it works 100% of the time. This is not acceptable.
Answered calls on shared FXO lines show as MISSED on other stations with those lines. The workaround: remove the missed calls display feature. This is not acceptable.
Thus UC320 is not happy unless it is the only router, DHCP and DNS client on the LAN. The grayfield implementation appears to fail no matter what LAN topology and equipment are used. This device is far from friendly to the typical SBS or existing LAN with a dedicated DNS and/or DHCP server.
The handsets have a cheap feel to them compared to the Avaya and other competitors phones.
The sound quality of the ringtones is almost laughable if not sad
The speakerphone quality and overall voice quality are not as good as the competition's.
The filtering functionality of the logging feature does not appear to work properly
Firmware updates often result in a HANG condition where either the GUI needs reset, the system needs a physical reset and/or sometimes defaulted
Firewall port forwarding rule oddities where a rule is deleted from the gui but is still active in the firewall, yet the inability to easily use another data router to work around this problem.
The inability of the device to properly use the LAN port for INTERNET based functionality (Time for example) if the WAN port is NOT connected,
countless other 'issues" raised in the support forum and other venues...
These are ALL very basic functions that one would expect to be fixed BEFORE a basic telephone system platform is released for production. It is absolutely unreasonable for a CUSTOMER to have to put up with a system this buggy and it is absolutely unreasonable for a partner to have to devote this much time and money to getting system to work at even a very basic level of functionality.
To repeat the scenario: This config is as basic as it gets running 2.1.3(0) with (3) system phones, (3) users, (2) pots trunks and that's it. There are no odd call routing scenarios, no complex AA rules or schedules (in fact the AA is defaulted, including prompts). All (3) system phones have BOTH shared FXO lines (KEY MODE). Each and every firmware version has been tried and the system has been defaulted numerous times. The system fails to meet even the most basic expectations of myself or the end user and has become a sore spot between our company and a very good client.
I am somewhat baffled, if not outright bothered by the fact that this device is riddled with so many problems and the fixes are taking so long to be implemented, if at all. I have been asked (ordered) by the customer to get this "hunk of crap" out of their office and replace it with something that works "at no additional cost". I could not agree with the customer more...
A very unhappy Cisco Partner.
William BurnettTo William (and Cisco,)
Honestly, I like Cisco.
I like their "openess" (you can find documentation and help on almost anything anywhere), the contribution they make to industry by their huge R&D effort (more than all their competition combined....or so I've been told...), the accessibility and responsiveness of some of their key people in the distribution channel, and yes, I like the ecosystem in terms of support, tons of free education and sales support for both their SMB and classic enterprise solutions.
Having said that, I thank God for people like William Burnett, who I am sure opened the eyes of many partners about the things that are horrendously wrong with some of the products in the SMB portfolio, most notably the UC320. I think it is fair to say, that William has effectively "killed" it (the UC320) in it's present incarnation. That is, unless Cisco, decides to really rise to the challenge and fix a product that at first seemed ideal for the small enterprise, but which was poorly implemented in terms of QC and in some cases design.
We certainly are not going to be touching the UC320 with a 10ft pole now Nobody wants (or can afford to) get a bad name by selling "trouble" to your Mom&Pop shops or to people whose trust you worked hard to gain and who are really depending on you to deliver. Not in this economy....not ever.
Coming from a Nortel telephony background, its really hard to accept that having to respond to trouble calls or complaints continuously from customers when Nortel products worked so reliably. In fact, Nortel Norstar is so reliable as a key system that people joke , that's why they went out of business, they couldn't generate enough turnover in new sales on account of people holding on to their Norstar's forever.
As a seller/installer/user of Cisco voice (UC540) and CME there are a couple recommendations I would like to make to Cisco:
1)Private line emulation - inability to transfer or conference calls on a private line. (using the TRUNK XX command) on the CME/UC500 platforms needs to be significantly improved in order to keep up with the competition:
for one, when you select a private line and make a call you cannot transfer that call. Every other system I have worked with allows you to do this. This for me is a glaring "defect/design flaw". I spent a lot of time trying to get this "fixed" as I couldnt believe that Cisco would just omit such a basic function when all their competition has it. (You dont even think about this when dealing with other systems.) Its just expected.
2)Private line emulation - Inability to reflect the dialed number in the Call Detail Records for calls made via a "private line". If you select a private line on the UC500 or CME and make a call, the dialed number would not show up in the CDR. I have programmed systems from Nortel (Norstar, BCM,CS1000), Avaya - (IP Office 500, Partner Plus, and S8x00 Communication Servers) as well as various systems from Mitel and
Panasonic . The CDR packages for these systems are very well implemented and documented. Cisco's systems are well documented as well, but this is an area of the implementation where Cisco falls behind the competition. I am sure this can be fixed, but for some reason, despite a number of requests, it hasnt.
In trying to understand why it is Cisco, with such a huge R&D budget, can't seem to get some things working properly that the competiton has long ago solved and moved on with, I have come to the conclusion that it must be that Cisco propably didnt tap enough of the right (human) resources when it was developing its voice portfolio, and the lack of industry experience shows up in some random places. Sad to say, not paying attention to some of these details, to real world usage scenarios, makes what would be an otherwise super product, just good enough.
Cisco is the biggest networking vendor on the planet. People have a right to have high exectations of Cisco. Their marketing also conditions users and partners to expect more when using their solutions. While we accept that no one is perfect, not even the mighty Cisco, I think most of the complaints and dissapointment expressed in this forum, on this particular thread, are justified because there is a strong feeling that if Cisco can be such a trailblazer with their enterprise portfolio, that they should have understood the importance of ensuring and enforcing good quality control in the design and manufacture of the SMB portfolio. I honestly hope someone from "Corporate" or high enough to make a differnce, looks at this thread started by William and uses it to inspire the will to fix what needs to be fixed to redeem the UC320 in whatever incarnation, in the eyes of its partners (even former ones....such as William)and customers. This is beginning to look like a textbook case of how not to do product development. -
How to Open Ports for HP Printers for all computers within the network (router)
Hi,
I have the EA6700 router and a few HP printers and Multi purpose printers/scanner/fax ...
When installing the print drivers, they are ok. Sending to printers are not a problem. However, the problem comes with scanning.
The HP Software ask to open a port for it... How do I do that? I checked, it seems other computers are affected by it too after changing to this new router.
I read that it can be done on the "App and gaming" section at the Security page. Do I go to the port forwarding section? But it only forward to one computer. that doesn't work...
I'd like to open a port and a lot of other IPs can print and scan from it.
ThanksPorts are not needed to be opened on the LAN side of the router for Printers and Scanners. I recommed that tiy contact hp for help and information regarding setup and configuration of those devices. Also the addition of a external Gb network switch for these devices is recommended as well. Would help eliminate any un-necessary router configuration or processing.

Homehub 3.0 possibly the worst router i've had in ...
I have had the homehub 3.0 about 3 weeks now with a new infinity 2 installation.
I've left the settings all as defaults and its running
Version 4.7.5.1.83.8.57.1.3 (Type A).
I am constantly having issues with the wifi signal and DHCP leasing.
For example, this morning no computers or iphones in the house could get online and on checking the PCs they had no DHCP address (limited connectivity). I have had to power cycle the homehub and now it's working again - I'm doing this every other day atm.
With regards to wifi signal, the problem I have is that it drops out. For example, yesterday I was using skype on the iPad and suddenly the wifi icon disappeared and skype call froze, then a few moments later the wifi icon came back. Similar happens on laptops where wifi drops out then comes back. This seems to be getting worst. If I restart the homehub then it settles down again.
I have previously had o2 broadband wireless ii box and that was pretty much perfect, we hardly ever restarted it.
Another problem is when we come back into range of the homehub, my iPhone does not connect to the homehub for a while. Normally with the o2 router it was instant as soon as we were out the front door! now it takes a while for the phone to connect, same thing happens when I switch on iphone in the morning.
Is the homehub just utter pants? I have had various wifi routers over the last 10 years and non of them have caused this much greif! I am wondering if maybe does it sound like it's faulty?
I am tempted to just go out and buy a new AP, like a netgear or something - but will this lose me access to BT Fon wifi etc?
thanksYou will not lose your access to BT Wifi or BT FON if you use a different router, provided you stay opted in, it just means that your new router will not transmit the signals for other users.
There is a short list of alternative routers here.

Regarding:
http://kb.linksys.com/Linksys/ukp.aspx?pid=80&vw=1&articleid=3733#
Cascading the Linksys router to another router (LAN-LAN)
The Bridge mode function on the EA6300 does not bridge the Wifi AP radio to the network.
The ethernet ports are bridged, and the router can see network devices and wifi devices connected to itand ping devices in both directions , but Wifi clients connecting to the unit running in bridge mode are not "bridged" to the network.
~
Using the built in webpage of the router, all devices can be pinged.
Ethernet RJ-45 devices plugged into it can ping the unit and pull up the units config webpage, but not ping wifi clients connected to it.
Wfii devices connected to its access point radio, can pull up the units config webpage, but not ping ethernet RJ-45 devices connected to it.
If there is a bridge, then the bridge is broken in half and not functional.
~
All devices are set with IPs on the same subnet, 192.168.2.x
~
I have a Netgear router in Bridge mode, and it works fine, connecting the wifi access point and RJ-45 ethernet clients together like it should be, so I know how Bridge mode... should work...
But it doesn't on this unit, it is not working completely out the factory door. It will bridge one Router to another via the RJ-45 ethernet ports, but its own AP radio is no longer bridged and connected (like when running in NAT
Note that doing cascading using NAT as described under "Cascading the Linksys router to another router (LAN-WAN)" works fine.Hi,
There's no WLAN bridge feature on the new Linksys Smart Wifi routers. You might also like to check and review these articles about Bridge Mode:

Still waiting for a response from Adobe regarding the post "Printing a pdf from a marked-up pdf" dated 15 Dec 2012 9:20 AM.
Look everyone that comes here with a support problems has gone through all the normal channels, around and round in circles with no one seeming to be interested. They've called every phone number, every email address they can find. They have been put on hold and bounced fifty times to another operator only to be hung up on. If Adobe would bring back support to main land and have people that know what's going on instead of having people that people can barely understand read from scripts. Scripted information only applies about 10 % of the time. I'm just giving people an alternative. after they have torn their hair out going the normal route. If they had been able to get a solution they wouldn't be coming here for help.
There should be a forum set up just for people to air these issues and Adobe employees forced to man it. Then we wouldn't have to have such a Bad attitude. Right now Adobe's Support reputation is worse than Intuit's which did have the absolutely worse on the Planet. Now they are number 2.
You know it yourself that Adobe's support is absolutely worse than terible. However to prevent me from being banned from the forums I will simply will provide the adobecare email address from now on
So let's sweep it under the rug. -
What is the best Router to use?
If anyone could help me with choosing a router, that would be great. now, i was at walmart looking for routers cuz i have 2 computers and only have internet for one. now, There r routers called G routers and N routers. the G one is cheaper, but it's supose to be slower. with only 2 computers, would the G router bog down the internet if both computers r in use at the same time?
You really should take this up on a Windows networking forum. Your question wouldn't appear to have anything to do with iTunes, per se. But answering quickly, when it comes to Internet connection speed, it won't matter whether you get an 802.11g router or an 802.11n router (or even an 802.11b router, for that matter). Any of those wireless data rates will be significantly faster than any Internet connection any of us normal people can obtain. Router speed will only matter for data transfer between computers on your own network.
For more complete advice, ask on a Windows support board.

Error Logging and notifying users regarding the errors
Hi..
we are designing a workflow in which if any user comes across an error (at any branch or while executing an action) must be alerted with the error and must send a notification to the admin that the process has stalled at that particular part of the workflow due to some error.
my doubts are
1.how can we notify the admin and the initiator of the workflow regarding the error a particular user gets.i saw in adminui that there are two tabs for the admin to view the stalled actions/stalled branches.but the admin and the user needs to be notified with an alert or email that a particular action has been stalled.
i think i conveyed my problem in a correct manner.if its confusing then plz tell me coz i am already confused in this..Thank you sir for your immediate response of the query.
In the workflow which we are designing,a service request from filled by the user will be routed to the particular approver and he inturn will approve/reject the form accordingly.once he approves, the form is routed to the service provider who will fulfill the service requested and approved.
1.Now,for instance suppose that the workflow gets stalled while the form is with the approver.my question is how to notify the user that the service he requested is delayed due to the stalling of the process in between as well as the admin alerting him with the error which stalled the workflow process.
2.you said that it is easy to setup an email address within the adminui..but i dont know how to do that as i am a beginner.
3.Also u asked me to specify the errors for which we need to send alerts and email notifications...whatever error that occurs whenever the workflow gets staleld needs to be notified both to the user and the admin (as per our requirements).it would be helpful to us if u give a solution for this.
thank you..

Can I use a Linksys EA 6900 router with Time Machine to do backup?
Hello, I have a Linksys EA 6900 router. I plugged in my WD Passport (formatted in Apple Mac format) 1 GB drive into the USB port and I can see it on the network, browse it etc no problem, but when I try to back up to it using Time Machine, it does not find it.
Please help, thanks!!Backing up that way is not supported by Apple. There are tricks you can use to make it work, but you don't know if your backup will be of any use when you need it. Many people have found that using unsupported methods with Time Machine results in failure to restore when they need it.

Regarding the migration from mi 2.5 to Netweaver mobile
Dear All,
We need to migrate an mi 2.5 to netweaver mobile 7.1. I have read a white paper by SAP for the same which has six step approach. Even i have read certail documents which has certain clauses like if a filter has placed on two fields in mi 2.5, that rule cannot be migrated automatically, which need to be created manually.
So i need to understand the following things.
1. What are limitations/clauses in the modelling regarding the migration to netweaver mobile?
2. As there are data objects, associations, dependancies, distribution model, distribution rules in netweaver mobile, what are the corrosponding things in mi 2.5, to acheve the data distribution dynamically and depandancies between the syncbos?
3. What are all things i need to study regarding the current implementation of mi 2.5 in terms of data modelling and mobile application?
4. LImitations of mi 2.5/7.0 over Netweaver mobile 7.1
Can anyone please help me in this so that it will be great help for me.
Regards,
Kiran.Thanks Ajith,
This is really good piece of input. Did you get any chance to gothorugh my word document. There are couple of clarifications what i have need is mentioned in that with the screen shots.
Clarifications are:
1. There are filters created for certain syncbos. They seems to be dynamic filters, so where can i see in the current mi 2.5 system where these values like ME-SYNC_USER is configured. This is the field that they have used for the dynamic filtration of data.
2. And there are no syncbos which have u201CFiltered by referencing Syncbosu201D enabled with the reference to excel and screenshot in the word document. Is this the way to look at related syncbos and if yes does it mean that there are no relations between the syncbos in the current mi 2.5 system?
3. Even though there are entries in merep_408 table for certain syncbos but i am unable to view the syncbo exits using the transaction merep_sbuilder. It shows the exits for ZEFACTIVITY but not for the others. What does that mean, is that mean exits are not maintained for the other syncbos.
4. Is S01 and T01 syncbos converted to Data Objects in Netweaver mobile. If they are converted, can you please explain clearly what is meaning of not supported and unable to use the capabilities of netweaver mobile 7.1, bacuse i am unable to understand.
5. Is the laptop client O/S dependant or if we install the respective jvm then does the same client run on all O/S.
6. While synchronization from the standard client it hits standard sync service provided by SAP, if the concurrency is more or overloaded, then what will be the alternative? In this i am not talking about load balancing. Can we do any routing to other server, is that the network configuration and any configuration done at DOE level?
I am really bombarding you with so many clarifications but can you please help in this so that it really helps me alot.
Regards,
Kiran.
