Accessing Crystal Reports XI from ASP
Post Author: cutedude43
CA Forum: General
I need to access Crystal reports from ASP. The catch is Crstal Reports XI is not installed on the web server where the ASP application is hosted. However there is another machine where Crystal Reports XI is installed. Can you please let me know, in detail, how I could view crystal reports through the ASP application under this scenario. If this is possible please also detail the required run time files that needs to be deployed on the web server where the ASP application is hosted.
If this is not possible, please detail the other ways through which I can invoke the crystal report from my ASP application page.
Thanks
Vaidyanathan
The only code you will find on this web site is for VB 6. I have a few C++ apps. Not knowing a thing about flex, I am not sure if either of those will be of any use to you(?). Other than that, see if you can find some flex forum and ask there...

Crystal report run from ASP code significantly slower than when run in CRS
We have CRS XI R2. I developed a report that contains several on-demand sub-reports. The report and sub-reports are very fast when run directly from CRS. However, when I run from ASP (users run a link from the intranet), it takes 4 times longer (1 second on CRS, vs. 5-10 seconds on intranet). The report takes longer, bringing up a sub-report takes longer and paging through sub-reports take longer. What can be done to improve the speed of the report that is using the ASP code? I used a sample program provided at this support site to develop the report and it is pretty basic code. The only time I have a problem is when I have many sub-reports. Since they are on-demand, I do not know why this would matter.
This has been created as an incident with SAP support. Things that you will want to check is making sure that you handle the postback to the code as you do not need to run your entire code on every postback. This will help performance after the original load.
One other thing is to compare performance with the viewer within Infoview that uses the same backend server as your application, ie PSReportFactory uses the page server, so you'll want to test with the DHTML viewer. RAS code (reportclientdocument) uses the Report Application Server so you will want to test with the Advanced DHTML viewer. -
Crystal report viewer from portlet
Hi,
I have a problem with opening Crystal report viewer from portlet. I am using Spring portletMVC but this doesnt matter in this case. After clicking some button a controller process form in method where is access to ActionRequest, ActionResponse. But how can I "redirect" with some parameters to plain JSP page where I can write something like this:
CrystalReportViewer viewer = new CrystalReportViewer();
viewer.setReportSource(rcd.getReportSource());
viewer.processHttpRequest(request, response, getServletConfig().getServletContext(), out);
viewer.dispose();
Oh, perharps is understandable, sorry for my English and thanks for helping. Any code of link would be wonderful.I haven't worked with Crystal Reports in quite awhile, but in the past I've written code to launch Crystal Reports using OLE. If I recall correctly, there existed an ActiveX control that could be embedded into VB forms, and the like. I'm unsure, however, whether they continue to support this mechanism. Given that your requirements do not allow CLIENT_HOST or DDE, however, I am guessing that OLE automation would also be unacceptable.
Have you looked at WEB.SHOW_DOCUMENT?

Crystal Reports functionality from Save The Cat
Sorry if I've missed this in the presentation video since I've only watched half of it, so I have no idea if this has been considered for development.
I use "Save The Cat" from Blake Snyder to storyboard my scenes with Crystal Reports - minus his structure.. and I create my own story templates and then drop the whole thing into "Final Draft".
If I had the flexibility to setup and re-use "structure" templates that would contain my scene cards with an overview of my scene cards as the structure under my script and the ability to toggle between the two...then where do I sign on the dotted line?
If you could integrate this functionality into this software - and as I say, I'm not sure if you've done this - then I'm sold. In other words, you build with the cards, and worry about the script later.
Cheers,
C.I need more info from you. I have looked for info re. Powerbuilder 11.5 here:
http://www.sybase.com/products/modelingdevelopment/powerbuilder
but I can not find any mention of Crystal Reports as it would apply to Crystal Reports being part of Powerbuilder 11.5. So, I need more explanation of this:
I'm trying to use the Crystal Reports ocx from Powerbuilder 11.5
Also, in the title of this post, you mention:
Crystal Reports RDC from Powerbuilder.
RDC and OCX are quite different technologies. It's one or the other. Thus please provide the following info:
1) Is the CR component you are using (be it an OCX or RDC) part of Powerbuilder? Or have you purchased a stand-alone version of CR and are using the component in Powerbuilder?
2) What component are you actually referencing?
3) What is the version of the Crystal Reports you are using?

Problem to run the Crystal report inside from SAP B1 based on SQL views.
Hello,
I have a problem to run my Crystal report inside from SAP B1 which is based on SQL views.And the SQL views are stored in a separate database in SQL server.The error which i am getting is saying the the tablename does not exist.What i need to do in order to sort this problem.
Great if somebody can help me to sort out this so that i can run my report based on SQL views stored on separate database other than SAP databases inside from SAP B1.
Edited by: rozenagrawal on Apr 19, 2011 11:51 AMTry using a SQL synonym in your company database for the views outside the company database. I don't know if SBO will let you get away with it, but its worth a shot.
If your company database is MyCompany and you have a view called MyView in Views database, assuming the view belongs to schema dbo, and you want the synonym to belong to dbo schema in your company database, run this:
Use MyCompany
go
create synonym dbo.OutsiderView for
Views.dbo.MyView
go
select * from OutsiderView
The select statement should return the contents of MyView in the Views database while you are connected to your MyCompany database.
For more info, see the Books Online for MSSQL on topic synonym.
You will need to change your CR options to include displaying synonyms along with tables, views, etc. You may also need to grant select to B1 users.

Problem with crystal reports get from All in One Best Practice package
Hi,
I tried to use Financial Statements crystal report download from All in One Best Practice package but encounter the below errors. I followed the guide in Manual Steps for Additional Datasource Creation to set up the additional data source. When i try to preview the report, I tried to set all the value to Null but the error message still appear. I believe this has something to do with the infoset but i not sure how to resolve this. Those report which connect to infoset doesnt seem to work for me.
Errors:
Failed to retrive data from database. (then i press OK)
database connector error: 'no item structure data' (then i press OK)
database connector error: 'RFC_Closed'
Please advice
Thank youHi Afzal,
I think you misunderstood. The crystal report i am talking about is the 23 crystal report template i get from All in One Best Practice package. All i need to do is follow the "Quick Guide to impletement SAP Best Practices for Business Intelligence V4.31" to make those template works. For those template that connect to Database type: SAP Table, Cluster or Function, i can make those work. The problem i facing now are those template (example: Financial Statements) that connect to Database type: SAP Info sets. The error i receive are stated in my first post.
Please advice -

Accessing Crystal Reports 12 report from a CF7/8 Web Application
Beside exporting the Crystal Reports 12 report to PDF, HTML,

Edited by: vamsidhar on Sep 10, 2011 7:25 PMThe reasons I want you to have SP 6 is because
1) It is the latest fix release and I will not work on anything not patched with the latest fixes. E.g.; why test on an older runtime when the new one may already have the solution?
2) You mentioned you want to be using IE 8. And as the blog I refered you to (Report Designer Component (RDC) in classic ASP applications on Win 2008 Server and Win 7 - Possible Solutions) states;
"...this blog only applies to Crystal Reports XI release 2, patched up to Service Pack 6 ..."
As to how to find SP 6. You could use the search box at the top right of this web page and type in "service pack 6 crystal" - without the quotes and the 5th hit is a KBase:
[1421033 - Where to find Crystal Reports XI R2 Service Pack 6|http://www.sdn.sap.com/irj/servlet/prt/portal/prtroot/com.sap.km.cm.docs/oss_notes_boj/sdn_oss_boj_erq/sap(bD1lbiZjPTAwMQ==)/bc/bsp/spn/scn_bosap/notes.do]
Alternatively, you could go to the downloads page directly at http://service.sap.com/sap/bc/bsp/spn/bobj_download/main.htm, select the product and voila. Anyhow, SP 6 link:
https://smpdl.sap-ag.de/~sapidp/012002523100015859952009E/crxir2win_sp6.exe
SP 6 RDC MSM:
https://smpdl.sap-ag.de/~sapidp/012002523100000634032010E/crxir2sp6_rdc_mm.zip
Which you can also find at the above downloads page.
BTW.; since you are a "newbee" in all of this, why not be a newbee in a technology that will take you some distance? CR XI R2 is the last version to ship the RDC (e.g.; RDC has been retired). Patch support had expired in June of this year. Any support expires next June. If you go with .NET or Java, you are assured years of support...

Problem passing parameter to crystal report subreport from *.aspx page
Background:
I am developing a .NET web application using Visual Studio 2005. The code behind is in VB.net. One of my asp.net pages calls a report, which is invoked when the user clicks a Print button. I have developed this report using the Crystal Reports software that is bundled with Visual Studio 2005. I am passing one parameter from the asp.net page (utilizing the VB.net code-behind on the Print button) to the Crystal report. The report consists of a main report and 5 subreports. Both the main report and the subreports use the same parameter. Both the main report and the subreports are bound to stored procedures, each of which require a parameter.
Problem:
For some reason, the parameter is not being passed from the asp.net page to the report. I am receiving the following error: "CrystalDecisions.CrystalReports.Engine.ParameterField.CurrentValueException: Missing Parameter Values." However, when I remove the subreports, the parameter gets passed, and the report is invoked with no problem.
I have read in other forums that there may be an issue with the Crystal Reports software that is causing this problem. I have downloaded and run the suggested hotfix, but the problem remains unresolved. I have tried changing the linking of my main report to the subreport, but that doesn't help either. It is possible that I am doing something wrong with the linking, as this is the first time I have developed a report with Crystal Reports. I need a workaround or definitive solution. Below is the aspx code used to call the report:

Crystal Reports 2008 from 32 to 64 bit
Visual studion 2008 applications (both asp.net and console application) were created to run from 64 bit Windows service and use Crystal Reports 2008 ( We had to save reports as .txt and to do this upgraded to CR2008). However, applications run perfectly on 32-bit Windows servers after Crystal Reports SP2 runtime redistributable (CRRuntime_12_2mlb.exe), but when we try to run it from 64-bit machine "Either the Crystal Reports registry key permissions are insufficient or the Crystal Reports runtime is not installed correctly" error is thrown.
We searched internet for answer, but found none.
Can anyone help?Hi;
You may have better luck posting to the right forum. Repost to the .NET development forum, found here:
