Acpi-cpufreq won't load at boot [solved]

Hi,
I wanted to use cpu scaling for my new laptop, eventually it works if i modprobe acpi-cpufreq so i added acpi-cpufreq to /etc/rc.conf to let it start automatic on boot but i won't. when i modprobe the module everything just works but it isn't that user friendly;) Does anyone now a solution for this problem?
Here is my rc.conf:
DAEMONS=(syslog-ng netfs acpi-cpufreq cpufreq iwl3945 hal dhcdbd networkmanager fam fuse stbd @crond @alsa gdm)

Did you actually read the wiki properly??
http://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Cpufrequtils
acpi-cpufreq is a module not a daemon, put it in the modules list, it should work then.

  • [SOLVED] acpi-cpufreq fail to load

I had been using cpufreq to use the ondemand governor for a long time and it worked al right. Last update changed cpufreq to cpupower and I can no longer use cpu freq. scaling. And insmod won't load the acpi-cpufreq mod. I remeber well I used this module to get scaling to work. I have an amd athlon X2. And acpi support is enabled from BIOS.

Please clean up this post. There's lot of duplicates and irrelevant stuff.
If acpi-cpufreq suddenly stopped working after update it must be a kernel bug (unless you updated BIOS at the same time).
Start with pacman -Syu since 3.7 branch is dead.
Okay, but where do you see duplicates?

  • Firefox settings won't load after booting up windows xp

After starting or rebooting Windows XP, then starting FF 3.69 (really has happened with the last several recent builds 3.6x), my profile will not fully load. Example, all customized icon locations for addons will be missing. If I close, then reopen FF, everything loads fine. It only happens after a fresh startup/reboot of the operating system, and then only on the first attempt at opening FF.

Maybe your security (Anti-virus) software is checking files while Firefox is starting and takes so much time that Firefox can't access them and decides to skip loading those locked files. If that happens with sqlite database files like places.sqlite then bookmarks won't work properly. A second start works because the AV software had already checked the file. So you need to check the rules for Firefox in your security software.
A possible cause is security software (firewall) that blocks or restricts Firefox possibly after detecting changes (update) to the Firefox program.
Remove all rules for Firefox from the permissions list in the firewall and let your firewall ask again for permission to get full unrestricted access to internet for Firefox.

  • MPC 800K won't load windows boot disc

Just bought a lovely new MPC800K.
Installed CPU, RAM, HD and DVD writer. All new.
It boots up nicely into the BIOS, with no complaints. All parts are recognised correctly.
Put brand new Windows XP Pro OEM disc in. Restarted. Get the "incorrect boot media" message. The one about "insert boot media then press any key. "
Go into the BIOS, change the booting priority to 1, DVD, 2, HD, others disabled. Reboot.
    Get the same message.
Basically nothing I'm doing will allow the machine to load the XP boot disc and start installing XP.
Any ideas as I've built dozens of PCs and never had this before!
    Thanks

is the disc spinning up at all? if not, then try another drive, yours could be bad
if it is spinning up, try another disc

  • Camera drivers won't load , unless booting from OS 9

I am trying to use a Fuji Luma2 digital back on my Hasselblad camera; the software that controls the camera thru the firewire only works by booting from OS 9.
When running the application on OS 9 classic the main features (take picture) appear ghosted (disable)
at launching application, get error message:
"an error occurred while trying to contact the luma family extension error (-2804)
reinstall the software and try again."
I have reinstalled the app. a number of times; deleting preferences, etc. still does not work. I have tried other computers as well. It is the same .
the only time that the camera back is controllable thru the firewire interface is by booting from os 9.
This limits my choice of computer for locacion work.
Any insight or ideas will be greatly appreciated.
    Regards..

I spent an hour or so, trying to find out some help on this Fuji Luma medium format camera back. Mosaic Imaging produced the software to drive the device, and although their site is still up and running, it doesn't look like it's been updated in 7 years.
Mosaic Engineering still provide servicing for the Luma device, but there didn't seem to be much sign of activity for the software.
I was really hoping to find notice of a USB2 cable and driver, but nothing. I did find lots of reviews of the Luma II.
Although the Hasselblad is top quality kit, the Luma II only offers an 11MP output.
And I can't be sure if this is a true 11MP sensor, or a 5.5MP / 6MP sensor with 11MP output. Fuji were infamous for claiming their camera backs had twice their actual resolution, and under review it was difficult to tell the difference between a 6MP device and a Fuji 12MP device.
So my point is that it might be time to upgrade, either a new MF camera back, or go full digital, Nikon D3, or the new D700 (grr, just bought my D300), or the allegedly upcoming D3x with 24MP sensor.
Whatever you get, (if you make a change) you'll find the Mac is very well supported, and I was amazed to find, exceptionally well supported by Fuji. It appears that the OSX driver issue with the Luma II is more due to the age of the Luma II.
Just one more link, which you may have already in your favs:

I can find more if you need them.

  • Openntpd won't start at boot [SOLVED]

    Hi all!
My system clock is perpetually off by 4 hours, and I've narrowed it down to an issue with Openntpd; it seems to be refusing to start at boot time. Here are the relevant lines from daemon.log:
    Sep 1 21:30:26 raskolnikov ntpd[1440]: Terminating
and the output of ps aux | grep ntpd:
    [raskolnikov@raskolnikov ~]$ ps aux | grep ntpd
    ntp 1323 0.0 0.0 3184 700 ? S 17:32 0:00 /usr/sbin/ntpd -s
    root 1332 0.0 0.0 3292 256 ? Ss 17:32 0:00 /usr/sbin/ntpd -s
    1000 1412 0.0 0.0 3616 800 pts/0 S+ 17:33 0:00 grep ntp
I can manually restart the daemon via /etc/rc.d/openntpd restart, which works fine, and the time is set correctly. However, when I reboot, the adjustments are wiped out, and the daemon does not start again (same message in daemon.log). I have the default ntpd.conf. I have found very little helpful information on Google, I would greatly appreciate it if someone could point me in the right direction, I've wasted quite a few hours this evening working on this problem! Thanks!
Edit: Just in case it's helpful, here is my daemons array from rc.conf:
DAEMONS=(syslog-ng !network acpid eee hal networkmanager netfs crond openntpd bitlbee)
Last edited by happycodemonkey (2009-09-02 03:55:46)

I've had this problem too, although I do not use networkmanager. I've found that openntpd fails to configure itself properly if the network is not up when it starts (in my case this happens when I background the network daemon and start openntpd in the daemons array).
My current working solution* is to add this line to rc.local:
    (sleep 300 && /etc/rc.d/openntpd start) &
That will wait 5 minutes before starting the openntpd daemon which gives the network more than sufficient time to start. An alternative would be run "/etc/rc.d/openntpd restart" in an hourly cronjob if your network settings change often.
    * Why not just unbackground the network daemon you ask? If the network isn't up then it takes a while to timeout and I don't want to wait to boot in that case.

  • [SOLVED] My machine won't load uuid on boot.

I recently ran the following to update my machine. I found it here since I was having the issue that started the thread
    pacman -Syu --ignore filesystem
    pacman -Su
I then ran pacdiff and made sure all my config files were in order. Unfortunately I believe this updated grub as well as potentially linux. I didn't run mkinitcpio or recreate my grub.cfg. Now I get the following error when I try to boot:
ERROR: device 'UUID=f3f3aeaa-0e59-4092-95fb-df1d768e966d' not found. Skipping fsck
ERROR: Unable to find root device 'UUID=f3f3aeaa-0e59-4092-95fb-df1d768e966d' .
You are being dropped to a recorvery shell
Type 'exit' to try and continue booting
sh: can't access tty: job control turned off
I've been able to boot the machine with my live usb stick I created when I originally installed arch. After so doing, I was able to confirm the above UUID points correctly at the partition that I want to boot.
What would cause UUID to fail to load on boot?
Last edited by squaresurf (2013-07-18 19:33:37)

I should have mentioned that when booted from my usb stick I did the following:
    mount /dev/sda2 /mnt
    arch-chroot /mnt
    mkinitcpio -p linux
However I received the following error. I wan't sure if I was doing it wrong so I gave up on that venture.
    preset not found /etc/mkinitcpio.d/linux.preset'

I discovered problem. It's caused by NetworkManager after last update (libsystemd.0.so trouble).
Recompile pkg by yourself to get working NetworkManager.

I've swapped to i5c (great phone) so my hubby has my i4s with pay as u go but now it won't load or sent e-mails! I've tried tech support suggested by Talkmobile for 'fix' but it hasn't solved problem, any ideas?..

Try this from MacFixIt as well:
In the case of drive directory damage or problems with permissions, the solution is usually to use Apple's Disk Utility to repair the disk. Of course, you won't be able to perform this operation normally (simply launching the Disk Utility application, located in Applications/Utilities, and initiating a disk repair) if your system will not startup. So two options exist:
    * Insert your Mac OS X 10.4.x (Tiger) media (DVD or CD) and restart the computer while holding down the "C" key. Once the computer has booted from the installation disc, select "Utilities" from the menubar and open Disk Utility. Repair the disk, then quit Disk Utility and restart your system.
    * Alternatively, you can repair the disk while booted in single user mode if you do not have access to a retail Mac OS X 10.4.x (Tiger) DVD/CD. To startup in single user mode, hold down the "Command" and "S" keys simultaneously at startup. Once properly booted, type the command fsck at the prompt. Repeat these process until no errors appear.

  • Cpufrequtils module won't load [SOLVED]

    Hi All,
Am trying to get some power management working on my HTPC .
I have installed cpufrequtils and find I have the following modules available ..
    ls /lib/modules/2.6.33-ARCH/kernel/arch/x86/kernel/cpu/cpufreq/
    acpi-cpufreq.ko longhaul.ko powernow-k7.ko speedstep-smi.ko
    cpufreq-nforce2.ko longrun.ko powernow-k8.ko
    e_powersaver.ko p4-clockmod.ko speedstep-ich.ko
    gx-suspmod.ko powernow-k6.ko speedstep-lib.ko
However when I try to load any of these modules I get a failure ..
    modprobe acpi-cpufreq
FATAL: Error inserting acpi_cpufreq (/lib/modules/2.6.33-ARCH/kernel/arch/x86/kernel/cpu/cpufreq/acpi-cpufreq.ko): No such device
I have tried re-booting the box to make the modules visible .. but no difference ... I seem to remember a loader command to update the cache, can anyone remind me what it is?
NB: I have an Intel Core2 Duo E7300 CPU, and would like to underclock/undervolt it to get some power savings, as I am running at less than 20% cpu most of the time, even with 720p content. I thought I would do the frequency stuff in the OS and do the undervoltage stuff in the BIOS (unless someone can tell how to undervoltage in the OS).
    Thanks.

Hi, I have the same problem as you.

  • External HDD won't mount at boot. [Solved]

    Edit:
I've noticed that this is an issue regarding my NTFS partition being on an external drive. Please check post #8 by me to get further details.
Hello guys, I'm having some problems getting my external NTFS HDD to mount automatically at boot. I have installed HAL and NTFS-3G, but I'm still getting problems. Mounting once the computer has finished booting is no problem using the simple mount command (sudo mount /media/pebble). I see no reason why this should be having problems mounting at boot with my fstab entry, but no errors occur when mounting manually.
    Fstab entry:
    /dev/sdc1 /media/pebble ntfs-3g fmask=022 1 0
    rc.conf:
    # /etc/rc.conf - Main Configuration for Arch Linux
    # LOCALIZATION
    # LOCALE: available languages can be listed with the 'locale -a' command
    # HARDWARECLOCK: set to "UTC" or "localtime"
    # USEDIRECTISA: use direct I/O requests instead of /dev/rtc for hwclock
    # TIMEZONE: timezones are found in /usr/share/zoneinfo
    # KEYMAP: keymaps are found in /usr/share/kbd/keymaps
    # CONSOLEFONT: found in /usr/share/kbd/consolefonts (only needed for non-US)

Do I need to load HAL earlier? What am I doing wrong?

I just noticed something, I don't think that this is an issue with the partition being NTFS, but rather with it being on an external hard drive (/dev/sdc). I say this because I just rebooted and noticed another NTFS partition that I have in my fstab is mounting (/dev/sda5). It's an internal HDD, and I didn't notice that it mounted up because I rarely use it. But there it is.
I suppose that I should define /dev/sdc. It is a Western Digital External HDD running off of a USB 2.0 cable. I don't know why this makes a difference, but it apparently does. Both entries in the fstab are identical for their respective devices and mount points.
Now that we have that figured out, I think that I'll change the title of the thread. So any ideas on how to solve this one?

  • Macbook Pro won't finish loading after boot and password

Right after I installed McAfee Virus Scanner for Mac and restarted my laptop it won't load all the way after I put in my pasword. It's stuck on the space screen that comes pre-installed, right before my desktop appears. I went into safe mode and dragged the new application into the trash and did the disk utitlity. It finished an it says the disk is ok. The battery is charged. Is there something else I need to fix? What is going on?

You have a hardware failure. Could be the drive itself or as has happened on a lot of 2009 model MBPs the cable that goes from the drive to the logic board has failed.
For either you will be better off taking it into an Apple G Bar and having it looked at. Note to the Apple staff that it may be the cable and not the drive.
If you are in the mood to test it yourself then remove the drive from inside the case and connect it to the system with a SATA to USB adapter and at stratup hold down the Option key and select the USB connected drive as the Boot Source. If the system boots off the drive then it is the cable. If it doesn't boot off the drive or the drive isn't even listed as a boot source then the drive has failed. Whichever one it is, Replace that part.

  • After I boot up from standby, Firefox won't load any web pages

If I let the computer go into standby on it's own, once I start it up again and open Firefox, it won't load any webpages...the wireless icon in the taskbar is showing connection, but nothing happens other than the address bar on Firefox says "loading"

I had this problem too. Running 32 bit Vista on a Toshiba Satellite U305 laptop. When you fold the lid it doesn't matter if Firefox is running or not, when you open it and the system wakes up, then Firefox 7.0.1 doesn't work any longer. Firefox either will not load if it wasn't running when the system went to sleep or it will soon hang if it was running. I started having this problem 2 weeks ago and have since then been uninstalling and reinstalling software that recently updated, checking configurations etc of ZoneAlarm, AVG, Acronis, etc. but nothing I did seemed to resolve the problem. Then this morning I was about to rebuild my system and remembered something I did a couple of weeks ago, install iTunes to support a used iPhone I was given.
I decided to try removing iTunes before undertaking a rebuild and this fixed the problem. Now that I think about it, I installed iTunes on this laptop when it was new and had to remove it because it slowed it down so much. It looks like they resolved a lot of iTunes performance degradation over the years but iTunes still appears to slow your system down and obviously, now also stops Firefox from working. Whose fault is it, Microsoft, Firefox or iTunes? Good luck having them work it out :-). Removing iTunes resolved my own problem. I can live without iTunes but not without Firefox :-)
Note: When the problem occurs, firefox.exe is running in the task manager but you can't kill it. Another problem for the research team. My own research found that MS Vista turns out to be one of the few OS's in the world that doesn't always provide for killing a process. (Lucky me for buying a laptop that has no XP drivers and doesn't warrant the expense of upgrading to 7). Reason for the kill problem? From what I understand, a kill instruction requested of Vista has it asking an application for permission before doing so. Problem is, hung applications rarely reply "sure go ahead".
    ///// UPDATE:////////
After 12 hours and 4 iterations of putting the laptop to sleep and waking it up, the problem has now recurred. So uninstalling iTunes is not the solution (although it seemed to help at first). Sorry if this confused anyone. My plan now it to regress to an older version of Firefox and see if that fixes the problem. However, I probably need a fresh install anyway after 3 years of overcrowding.
