Acrobat x stopped working....

A few days ago while viewing a .PDF Acrobat Pro X abruptly disappeared.  Since then, it will no longer start under any circumstance.  Win 7 x64
Tried the following. 
   1.)  Control Panel, Programs, Programs and Features, Adobe Acrobat X Pro - English, Francais, Deutsch, Change, Repair.   - *No Change in Behavior.  Program will not start *
2.)  Attempted the following suggestions found here:

   Solution 2 did nothing.  Solution 3 prompted me to enter my Acrobat X Pro serial number.  I entered my CS6 Master Collection serial number that was emailed to me by Adobe.  It told me I have an incorrect serial number and would not allow me to continue. 
Adobe - I ask that you please look into this issue as soon as possible and post a fix.  I have almost 3 hours tied up into trying to resolve this issue as I can no longer open any .PDF file on my machine.  I also see countless other posts on the same issue with no permanent resolve.

Well, don't know that this will work for anyone else, or if it will work in my work environment, but it seems to have fixed my home installation:
1. Unistalled Win7/64 installation of Acrobat X.
2. Reboot.
3. Open Adobe Application Manager.
4. Choose to "install" Acrobat X Pro.
5. Enjoy. It never asked for my serial key (which was obviously good when I installed the CS6 package), and none of the CS6 apps are asking for it now, including Acrobat X.
I think I'm stable here at home. I'll check again on Monday at work and see if the same approach solves that problem.
UPDATE: Came in to work on Monday, did the same basic approach (uninstall the version of Adobe Acrobat I had rolled back to), rebooted, then used Adobe Application Manager to install Adobe Acrobat X. Again it did not ask for a serial key, and now the installation seems stable and working. Other Adobe apps also seem stable and working.
UPDATE #2: Un-f**king-believable. After several weeks of again working properly it's gone into the same tail-spin again. I'll try one of the other fixes on here this time, but do you think I'll buy CS7 when it first comes out? No f**king way. At least not for the first 6 months or so. I still can't believe that Adobe blithefully ignores this issue. A ton of pros use these programs, but my faith in Adobe's been shaken severely. Oh, and if it's a big surprise to anybody, it's been exactly 30 days since my last "fix" of this problem. I should be sending Adobe a bill. Or a refund request. Hey, maybe that'll give me something to do with all the time I'm NOT working.
UPDATE#3: Well, I tried the photoshop/deactivate/restart-in-trial-mode/reactivate dance of a thousand deaths, and it appears to be working. Wanna bet it goes south again in 30 days? But at least I'm back to working now <exasperated sigh>...

    Thanks Pat. I was able to resolve the problem.
    OS is Windows 7 Pro, Adobe Acrobat Pro 11.0.07.
    I went into the Properties file where I identified that Users only had Read & Execute and Read properties, I changed properties for Everyone to Full Control. That fixed the problem.
    I don't know how the properties got changed to just Read & Execute, but there had been an automatic update the night before.

  • I have a user getting an error Adobe Acrobat has stopped working  how do I resolve this?

    Adobe Acrobat XI Pro
    This happens at a variety of times.  Sometimes while scanning sometimes while bookmarking sometimes while adding pages from a file.
    What I have done is made sure the program was up to date, a repair install, updated scanner drivers, replace the scanner with a different model, made sure the workstation was current with MS patches.  Any suggestions would be most welcome.

    Thanks for the reply.  Sorry I wasn't clear the version is XI standard.  And I did check for updates.  The program is current.  Still a few times a day the program will crash and my user will have to start over again on the document she is working on.  Very frustrating for her and me.
    The full error is:
    Adobe Acrobat has stopped working
    A problem caused the program to stop working correctly.  Windows will close the program and notify you if a solution is available.

    Provide you have Acrobat 9 installed in an OS for which Acrobat 9 is compatible then you can use the functionality.
    As well, you need a scanner connected, powered up, and the software installed. Acrobat 9 "prefers" TWAIN drivers.
    Always visit the scanner vendor's site and download - install the latest greatest software.
    n.b., The Acrobat 9.x product family passed into "End of Support" mid-year 2013.
    As well the Acrobat 9.x product family is not compatible with contemporary OSs.

    I've checked your account, and nothing seems to be out of order with your Acrobat Pro subscription. Are you launching Acrobat on your desktop? If, for some reason, your subscription has reverted to trial mode, I would expect you'd be presented with the trial dialog box. From that dialog box, you should be able to click License this Software, and then sign in with your Adobe ID and password. If that's not the case, please let us know.

    Since when are you facing this issue? Did you tried system restore to a date before this problem occured.
    Does acrobat stop working when you open this specific pdf file or with any pdf file that you open?

    Do a backup.
    Take notes of all account information or take screen shots. You may need to set the accounts up again. Quit Mail.
    Copy the line below.
    ~/Library/Containers/com.apple.mail
    Select Go/Go To Folder from the Finder menu bar. Paste the line into the window. You won’t see it.
    Move the folder com.apple.mail to your desktop. You must move the entire folder, not just the contents.
    Relaunch Mail and test. If the problem is solved, recreate any required Mail settings and import any emails you want to save from the folder on the desktop. If the problem remains, return the folder to where you got it replacing the one that is there.

    If you prefer to make your user library permanently visible, use the Terminal command found below.
    Show User Library Directory in Mac OS X 10.7 Lion & 10.8 Mountain Lion
    You might want to bookmark the command. I had to use it again after every update. I have also been informed that if you drag the user library to Finder it will remain visible.

  • Why does Acrobat just stop working?

    Installed CD6.  Everything works/opens just fine.  Then all of a sudden Acrobat stops working.  Illustrator and Photoshop are fine.  Tried uninstalling and reinstalling and everything worked fine for numerous uses.  Then Acrobat stopped working - in the middle of a PDF and it just "disappear" and Acrobat will no longer open.  This time I uninstalled, used Adobe CleanUp Tool and reinstalled.  Works just fine now....but I am concened that Acrobat will stop working again.  Has this happened to other users?  Operating system is Windows 7.

    Just running the update of adobe application manager and then try to open the software.

    Most of the times the  emails go through and Acrobat crashes.
    Many times the email get stuck as draft.
    Yes, I updated.
    And after that my problems started.
    I reinstalled but problem persists.
    Yes, my email package (Outlook) is not only my default but also the only one installed. And it is MAPI compatible.
    As a matter of fact, it used to work fine.

  • Adobe Acrobat X Pro - Error Message : "Adobe Acrobat Has Stopped Working"

    I use Windows 7 - 64bit / CS6 Master Collection that has Adobe Acrobat x Pro.
    When the computer is on for a little while, Acrobat would generate the error message that it has stopped working and then shuts down. Once that error message occurs, I cannot get Acrobat to stay open. It opens the PDF document, stays open for a few seconds then the error message occurs and it shuts down.
    What helps for a short term is to restart the computer. This seems to temporarily remove the error until the computer is on for a while then the error returns.
    This problem repeats. Product repair feature does not work. This has nothing to do with the license, I tried that fix and it made no differnce. I do not have this issue with other Adobe products included in the master collection.
    It seems fruitless and frustrating to send a message to Adobe Support, the run around with pages and links is like smacking walls on every turn, it is obvious Adobe does not want people contacting their support. Service from Adobe for their products is poor.
    I hope that someone here has the answer to the problem. Anyone?

    Ok, here is the update.
    The link: http://helpx.adobe.com/creative-suite/kb/acrobat-failed-launch-30-days.html , leads to a webpage that says to download a fix ZIP file named: "Acrofix.ZIP". It contains the file "acrofix.exe".
    I did use this "exe" file about 2 months ago and it did nothing to fix the issue. I used it again today, because the same issue of "Adobe Acorbat has stopped working", occurred again and again it did not work, the problem of "Adobe Acrobat stopped working" presists. Again the only work around, which is temporary, is to reboot the computer.
    So far these do not work:
    Relicensing or Registering the Licence
    Acrofix.exe
    Anyone else have an answer? - or am I the only one suffering this really annoying issue?

    Just installed Acrobat on my Win 8.1 machine and it continually crashes and stops working. Sometimes it will crash after 20 mins other times after 30 seconds. Just looking for some direction.

    Acobat X Pro. I have read some information about an issue after about 30 days where the program will not launch put this doesn't seem to be the same issue.

  • Acrobat XI Stopped working after CC Updates

    RANT: It's happened 3 times now, and I'm getting fed up of the Adobe support - very disappointing. I don't think they know how to handle issues, and sometimes wonder if they even know the basic difference between hold and disconnect. Numerous times I have contacted them, after chatting with them for a few minutes, they say that they have to trasnfer me to the technical support, and then I get disconnected. Then the next guy has to start all over again with the same questions. Horrible.
    Ok, rant is over (for now), hopefully this forum is more helpful.
    ISSUE: last few (3) times I have noticed that when I update my Creatve Cloud panel, my Acrobat stops working. I'm not entirely sure if this is related to the CC panel update, but that's what it seems to me right now. So, after numerous chats with the Adobe chats, and my own office IT, I (myself) figured out that the issue could've been because I see 2 Adobe Acrobats installed on my system. The screen cap below shows what I mean.
    Last 2 times I uninstalled both, and reinstalled the Acrobat from the CC panel again, and it worked. But this time it just dind't. And I've been totally unable to solve the issue with my IT and Adobe's support so far.
    So, what happens is that when I launch Acrobat, it asks for licensing information again, or it says it would launch as a trail version... Come on, I'm already paying for the whole package.
    Desparely hoping that the Adobe Forum Community is more capable for such support...

    I've had numerous chats with Adobe support agents, and with my own IT, and haven't had luck yet. It's been a terrible experience stuck between the two IT support departments as a user I'm the one who's suffering and not these support guys...
    The issue here is that my Acrobat is not working as it can't find the internet connection, even though all the other Adobe products in the Creative Cloud work fine.
    We use Proxy scrypts in my office, and even though all Adobe links provided to me by Adobe, have been white-listed by my IT, Acrobat still hasn't worked.
    I've tried it all, installing, uninstalling, Adobe clean-ups, registery edits, preferential boots etc etc. Still no solution.
    Is there no way to manually enter a serial number to get it working???? What if someone loses internet connection, does it mean the Adobe Creative Cloud products are useless in that scenario, even though one has paid for months...
    Damn, I'm angry with myself for pushing for Adobe CC upgrade. Sigh.

  • Acrobat 9 stopped working, demanded uninstall/reinstall, uninstall locked up and now I can't do anything

    I have used Acrobat 9 Standard for years.  It recently stopped working.  When I start it, I get a message that I must uninstall/reinstall.  A repair attempt failed to fix the problem, so I started an uninstall.  That locked up and I had to shut it down using Task manager.  Now I cannot do the install because it says the uninstall is running.  I am running Win 7 Home Premium 64 bit on a Toshiba Satellite laptop.  Any help would be appreciated.

    To stop the install, you will have to reboot. Then run http://labs.adobe.com/downloads/acrobatcleaner.html and remove any left over parts of the Acrobat folder. Reboot again and you should be able to reinstall. The updates have to be obtained from ftp://ftp.adobe.com/pub/adobe/acrobat/win/. The updates web site only goes back to Version X.

  • Acrobat printer stops working

    I am seeing a problem where the Acrobat virtual printer stops working after my system has been running for a while.  The symptom is that when printing to the virtual printer, the file appears in the queue, then disappears as if it was successfully printed, but Acrobat never starts up and no PDF is produced.  I've tried killing the Acrobat background processes and restarting them but this does not solve the problem.  The only solution I've found to work is a system reboot, after which the virtual printer functions correctly for a while but eventually stops working again.
    System: Win7Pro 64; core i7 930; 12GB memory; lots of free disk space

    I did the following
    Ctrl-P to print a page in Firefox
    Click Properties...
    Select the "Adobe PDF Settings" tab
    Change the output from "Prompt for Adobe PDF Filename..." to a specific output folder
    At which point the file is printed correctly to the designated folder.
    I didn't have to invoke distiller separately
    Does this still indicate a problem with Acrotray?
