Activesync - who takes responsibility

I am frankly livid that devices are being sold that you KNOW, and have known for some time, do not work properly.  Syncing with more than one computer is a common business task--even with just a work machine and a laptop, and these expensive devices (800w, in my case) will not do it under WM 6.1.
I've been a Palm user for many years. Palm, what are you going to do about this?  I am sure it is a Windows problem (since no one seems to have this issue with WM 6.0), but 6.1 is burned into your phones--so it is your product now, and they are still gleefully being sold without a word about this.
What is being done about this and when can we expect a resolution?
Post relates to: Treo 800w (Sprint)

It is a sorry state of affairs. I was on the phone with Sprint's "Advanced Technical Support" for an hour yesterday trying to sync my sent and replied-to mail. The lady tried and tried, but eventually found out (from extra-advanced tech sup?) that Exchange is required. I asked "what am I supposed to do?" and she said she "had no answer" for me. I asked to get that in writing but no one is allowed to do that.
In Sprint's 'buzz about wireless' site there is a suggstion box; I asked that Sprint lean on microsoft as they have more weight than I do. Maybe Palm can join in.
Both Sprint and Palm are at fault for overstating the utility of the 800w. (GPS, to start with). They will say we had 30 days to find out about these things and go on to the next poor customer and bring out yet another phone. (the first post I saw here about the Treo Pro said it doesn't work.)
As far as responsibilty, they (Palm, Sprint, and MS) will say it is ours for not turning it in before 31 days. There is truth to that, but doesn't it bother them that they make such poor products?
Palm will probalby do nothing; it's been months. Palm and Sprint will refine standard terms like 'autonomous = must be in range of a Sprint tower' and 'corporate email = Exchange' (I DO work for a corporation) and 'sync = a relation between ONE PC and ONE WM device'.
It's the easy way out. Makes me want to take a good look at an i-phone and an i-mac.

  • Who takes RMAN backup?

    Hi all,
I have an oracle 9.2.0.7 database instance on SLES9 sp3 64bit. And RMAN backup is taken every day by one who is I dont know although I changed sys and system passwords. It seems that the backup is taken on local machine, doesn't it? I looked at v$session_longops view then I saw backup is taken SYS user. Anyone doesn't have RECOVERY_CATALOG_OWNER role. I looked at crontab of oracle and root users, then I looked at dba_jobs. But I dont see anything about rman backup anywhere. I wonder who takes RMAN backup on my system?

  • Who takes care of load balancing work in weblogic cluster ?

    Hi Folks,
How load balancing is handled internally by weblogic cluster ? Does Admin server takes care of cluster load balancing ? According to me Admin has nothing to do with load balancing in cluster . Manage server continue to run even when Admin server is down.
I am not looking for explanation about different load balancing algorithm. I am interested in who executes those algorithms in weblogic cluster and how .

  • Who provides response object?

    Hi All,
I wanted to know who exactly provides the implememntation of an response object?
i.e. if response is an object who defines how the class of response look like?
I searched the servlet API and Tomcat source code but no where I see something called a response class.
    Regards
    Ayusman

I think we can get the source for Tomcat on apache site.
And I am looking at the source code itself, if I am not mistaken.
I hope I was looking at the
    apache-tomcat-5.5.12-src\jakarta-servletapi-5\jsr154\src\share\javax\servlet
    folder.
Is that right the one you are speaking about or some other jar files?

  • Apple doesn't take responsability for the 3G upgrades. I can't work with it

I updated my iPhone 3G like most of the people having an iPhone 3G, but now it runs very very slowly. I use it at work, but now it's impossible. I called Apple, and the said me it was out of guarantee. Nothing to do. So they "broke" my phone and I cannot go back. Is this legal? When they launched the upgrade it was 3G compatible, but it isn't. I am really disapointed with Apple.

I tried everything to get my iPhone 3G up to speed. First the double hard reset, the the system restore, then the restore as new device. These all made the iPhone work better for a short while and then it would start to slow down again.
Finally I went to Settings, General, Home Button Spotlight Search and unchecked all selections except Contacts, Applications, and Music.
    My IPhone works great agin.

  • Sun, take responsibility for appserver7 installation problems!

    *** First set of problems...
I'm having installation problems on both Solaris 8, (Ultra 480, 1GB RAM, latest recommended patches) and a Windows 2000 Server with SP2 (1GHz P4, 512MB RAM).
I chose default installation directory and then the install
complains that Pointbase 4.2 should be installed into the
same directory etc. Cannot unselect the Sample apps and
    Pointbase options.
    *** Second problem...
I have an instance previously installed on Windows 2000
Professional with SP2.(1GHz PIII, 512MB RAM, 5GB space)
When i start application server 7.0 , then i get the following
    message:
Could not start the instance: domain1:admin-server
Server failed to start:abnormal subprocess termination
Could not start the instance: domain1:server1
Server failed to start: abnormal subprocess termination
Could not start one or more instances in the domain:domain1
Could not start one or more domains
Press any key to continue ...

When you say that you choose the default installation directory and then the installer complained about Pointbase, what platform where you using? Had you already attempted installs in the past or uninstallations that did not complete properly?
For your second issue, did you happen to change the host name of your machine? Try cranking up the log level (edit server.xml) to see what's causing the instances to fail on startup. Did the application ever start up after install? What things did you do just prior to the server exhibiting this behaviour?

  • Adobe should take responsability of their mistake

As I can see from the actual forum million of people have
lots of problems whit the new version of Flash Player, Why Adobe
doesnt help us? I did call them and ask for help, but there answer
was DYS (doit your self) you can go in the forum and try to fixit,
they made all this problems and they should sort this out as soon
as possible, people are loosing money and time, why don't they do
    anything about it?
Or at least why don't they tell us how to reinstall the old
version 9.0.47.0 I'm try to install Active X 9.0.47.0, for weeks
    but he doesn't work.
I feel like we are been use as test, Adobe don't forget that
people are loosing money for this big fiasco of 9.0.115.0
    release.

Installing older versions of Flash Player (including the last
previous version, 9.0.47.0) is not recommended due to security
vulnerabilities in older versions. Adobe actually did recommend
downgrading to older versions, but such a recommendation is
    ethically irresponsible.
The correct solution is a new version of Flash Player with
the problem corrected, though it's possible that Adobe has been
    unable to find a solution.

  • How to go back one version?

I don't want to use version 23. How can I revert to 22? Windows Vista
And why isn't there a FAQ for this? I tried various questions and got nothing useful.

That is close to what I asked, but it did not show up in my several questions. The page is 95% "don't do it" and is oriented towards installing an older version, not reverting a simple upgrade. I will look at it later to see if it looks reasonable (I suspect it requires handstands if not carwheels...). So thanks anyway for a plausible lead.
"Since I answered your question, will you answer the questions about why you feel it's necessary to downgrade? "
I am not aware of any quid pro quo, and I have separately submitted feedback about some of the lousy new features in 23. Forcing users to go to About Config is a really awful way to separate the idiots who need a babysitter from users who take responsibility for their browsing needs.
re Mr "downer" -- "old versions of Firefox leaves you at horrible security risks" If 22 was so horrible, shame on whoever released it in the first place. I mean really!
re WFF: "We could easily fix it" I have to call b*llsh*t. Last time I reported a new bug was 2008 or 2009 when I first started using Firefox. It got reported by others in bugzilla under various threads for YEARS before something happened at the user end despite followups and plenty of what looked like developer chit chat. So "you" have zero credibility. Read your feedback, please. I can't seem to find my submission under dozens or more new feedbacks and my History doesn't seem to have a unique entry for my feedback form/page. I had to submit new feedback just to find the "feedback dashboard" just now despite trying a couple of searches (without recalling 'dashboard' or 'input' terms being involved).
In this case "you" have chosen to dumb down 23. It's annoying.

  • Broadband Cancellation - Pain

Having the standard unpleasant experience with BT, so am trying to leave. As part of the crazy leaving charges there is a £46 charge for the hub!!!!  Am I alone in thinking this is nuts? The thing is so bad I've had to plug in my own router to get a decent wireless signal.
Yet again I regret the day that I signed up with BT.....  So sad that such a big company delivers such a poor service/experience....

Also, your comment about industry standards; poor service may be the norm but that is no excuse. Just because everyone's **bleep** doesn't mean one can't try to be better.
Yep again, though I wasn't offering an excuse. It's a fact of life called the free market.
I disagree. The free market doesn't in any way inform the inadequacy of service standards in any industry. Quite the opposite; the free market encourages supplier competition, and a key differentiator between providers is the quality of their service (and products).
Sticking with BT sounds like a 'better the devil you know' attitude. The only way BT and other suppliers will learn that they need to improve their products and service is if customers make their feelings clear; often as consumers the only route to do that is by taking ones business elsewhere.
Except that getting in the grip of another poorly-performing firm doesn't encourage them to buck their ideas up.
Therein lies the benefit of quality research; let me fill in the background - I signed up with BT for Infinity because at the time it was the only option for me in my area. I went in with my eyes open, expecting BT to c*ck up everything, and I wasn't disappointed; I was, however, astonished by the sheer dreadfulness of the whole experience. BT really did plumb the depths of ineptitude with an alacrity I thought impossible. Having endured them for 18 months, I couldn't wait to move to another supplier, and spent a long time researching and talking to the other options before I settled on one who provides a real human, in the UK, to talk to; who has a team of technical staff who understand that not everyone is a technophobe or lacking the aptitude for anything other than 'turning it off and on again'; who deliver what they say they will, when they say they will; who don't keep me on hold for hours on end and then cut me off; who take the payment they say they will on the right date; and who take responsibility and ownership of things. BT could learn a lot from them.
The big problem BT and other large corporates have is an inability to take ownership of a problem and resolve it; the onus is always on the customer to chase up the problem, never the other way round. It's not my problem if a supplier's busy, or their system is broken, or their department is closed - I pay for a service or product, and it should not be up to ME to resolve any problem that occurs at the supplier.
I've lived long enough to witness the deterioration. The only effective route to a solution is regulation or public ownership. Imagine the squeals then!
You and me both have lived long enough to see that; however, I don't agree that public ownership is the solution. Look at the underperforming health service, prison service, police force, overspend in the armed forces, ineffective HMRC, poorly run border controls, etc. As a privately run business, BT has the opportunity to make itself work - it has all the tools offered by a competitive free market, and it can differentiate itself by freeing itself of the shackles of the 'but that's the way we've always done it' mentality. If just for once a BT employee would use their initiative and poke their head up from behind the 'it's not in the script, it's not company policy, it's not my department' parapet and resolve a customer's issue for them, that happy customer might start telling people how good BT is, rather than, as is normally the case, how diabolically awful they are.
    That's me done. Goodnight.
    Seeya... good discussion :-)

  • ConnectionFactory - who does the load balancing

Consider creating a connectionfactory (with server affinity unticked, load balancing
ticked and using the message delivery policy of round robin) we then go on to
create a distributed domain targetted at the cluster of two managed server's (managed1
              and managed2)
If I create a simple java app that put's messages to that distributed destination,
using the connectionfactory above, who's responsible for doing the load balancing.
Does the client create the session knowing that the connectionfactory requires
load balancing and thus takes the responsibility for it, or does the client just
put a constant stream of JMS messages to the WLS and the connectionfactory class
takes responsibility for the load balancing
Who maintain's the delivery state, the client application or WLS (i.e who's job
is it to look up the last messages queue destination?)

    Hi Barry,
A JMS client's produced messages are first delivered to the WL server
that hosts the client's JMS connection. The JMS connection
host remains unchanged for the life of the connection.
Once produced messages arrive on the connection host,
they are load balanced to their JMS destination.
For more information I suggest reading the clustering
sections of the JMS Performance Guide white-paper. You can find

  • How long does a restore take?

    Hello,
I am currently doing my first restore on my two week old iPhone.
I am now on the screen that says "restoring from backup".
Can anyone please tell me how long I can expect this stage to take?
It seems like the progress is very slow... About one green bar every 15 minutes....
Apologies if this has been addressed recently, but I couldn't find a recent post to answer this.
    Thank you...

    Thanks for the response..
After the restore from backup, the next screen put me back to the original restore page.
I ended up restoring it as new, and it didn't seem to take much time at all.
I have an 8G, not too much media.
At first, the sync wasn't showing up on the phone screen,
So I unplugged, restarted Itunes, plugged back in and re-synced.
I think it is ok now, but I learned my lesson about downloading apps directly from the phone.
I am glad for all those who take the time to respond here, it can be really helpful.
