Activity Duration

Hi everyone
I have been trying to set a default duration for an appointment - reduce it from 1 hour to 15 mins. I have tried setting field default value on end time - cant get this to work. I have also tried to set a default on the duration field - this is a system field and therefore not editable. I hope someone can help as this will significantly reduce data entry time for our field people.

The software is working as designed.
The duration in P6 is stored in hours and not days.
Now say 5d = 40hrs stored in database based on 8h/d calendar.
Now if you change activity calendar to 10h/d
Duration = 40/10 =4d

Obtaining BPEL activity duration instead of timestamp

Hi,
I've created activity sensors relevant to the scopes in the BPEL process. The evaluation time is set to 'All'. The attached sensor action publishes instanceId and the activity duration obtained from the XPath expression 'actionData/payload/activityData/duration'. This doesn't seem to be upserting any data to the Dataobject.
Related to this, I'd like to know if the evaluation time property should be changed from 'All' to 'Completion' since I've noticed this in the FAQs for quite some time. I've got another query regarding the usage of the duration node. Will the duration node suffice, or should I go back to using the timestamp value and then calculating duration from the timestamps ?

Well, that's what I do at the moment. I had a feeling that this might have been rectified, since this could result in an accidental increase in the number of fields in the data object. Adding the nature of production data to be highly de-normalized, I wonder whether this might be a good thing at all.

Actual Time bar for the activity duration in Gantt Chart

Hi all,
The Actual time bar for the elapsed activity duration in Gantt chart is not appearing. The same is true for all the activities i.e. activities which are not yet confirmed and activities which are partially confirmed.
Is there any customizing for the same? ( I am getting the bar in IDES, but not in DEV/QAS/PRD )
Any Help in this regards will be highly appreciated

Got the solution.
1)For this first check in the project profile of the Hierarchry graphic -
Time scheduling profile - check the colour patterns which been assigned.
2)open the project - Cj20N - go to planning board - bar chart - under settings - Planning board assistant - Gantt chart - check the dates display for Project definition , WBS , Acitivity - try to change the colour and check.
while changing can see - basic date of the acitivity. based on the confirmation can see the bar confirmed activity with respect to basic date. the bar confirmation will show withrespect to duration.
3) If the bar chart need in daily /hourly - can check in CNE5 . click on the graphics -bar chart - which u will get the bar chart - in this choose the Time Axis - where can select the monthly /weekly/daily /hourly format .
Award points if clear and got the solution.

Resource Durations (Start /finish) are not align with activity durations

My Resource Durations (Start /finish) are not align with activity durations and hence the Budgeted % are going crazy. Any idea?

the default start/finish dates for resource assignments are the activity start/finish dates. if for any reason you changed that, you can check and reset both Original Lag and Remaining Lag to 0 for all/ some of your resource assignments by adding the columns in the Resource Assignments window and performing either a fill down or a Global Change operation. let me know if you need help with any of these.

Type of the first activity then click on the shift tab
and select the last activity ,right click you shall
find the 'Fill Down'Option.This option shall act
similar to the Fill Cell option of excel wherein the
value of first cell will get copied till the last

Business activity duration error

Hi,
When I create business activity on my crm system duration field occurs initial in some cases.
Duration is INITIAL in the case shown below,
18.01.2008 00:00 - 18.01.2008 02:00
Duration is true in the case shown below,
18.01.2008 02:00 - 18.01.2008 03:00
Date profile is 'Activity: Actual' which use date rule 'Actual Date (Activities)'. Time zone: EET.

Do you have a source control system (svn, git,...) you use with the application?
The Model,jpr file is corrupt which may cause trouble later. Right now everything looks working, but there might some display problems when you open e.g. the application module or VO.
Save the current (corrupt?) jpr file and try to restore it from the repository until you find one which loads without the problem. Once you have on select the project in the application navigator and click on refresh (ctrl-r). This should add missing content back again.

DSO Activation duration / monitoring

During the activation-process I like to know how long the rest of the activation process will last.
This should be displayed either in percentage of the total amount or in minutes or hours.
I found a couple of similar questions in the forum, but not an appropriate answer.
I don't need answers, which explain how to see whether a request is finished or not. I know this.
I'm looking for answers which explain where I see the progress of the activation.

Duration for Activity replaced by subnetwork

We have many network activities which are replaced by subnetworks in our project. I have done overall scheduling and project scheduling.
Control key of activity replaced by subnetwork is not relevant for scheduling (PS05)
I have the following queries.
1. Is the Duration of activities replaced by subnetworks calculated and populated in "Duration" field during scheduling?
2. If NO is the duration of subnetwork reflected as superior activity duration in any of the reports? CN41N,CN47N?
3. Why is no value appearing in Processing time column in CN47N reports?

Hi,
Whenever you replace a network by subnetwork the contol key automatically changes to PS05 on the network activity. The activity becomes irrelevant for scheduling.
When this happens the start and end date of the activity (which is now replaced by subnetwork) is copied on the start date of first activity of subnetwork and finish date on last activity of sub netowrk. The activity will automatically become irrelevat for scheduling. The new scheduling dates for activities in sub network will be derived based on relation ship betwwen nthem and start and end date of main activity.
So if your activity is scheduled for 10 days from 19th Mar to 26h Mar and you replace it by subnetwork having 4 activities having FS relation ship and 2 days each then the schedule will be
0010 - 19th - 20st Mar
0020 - 21st - 22nd Mar
0030 - 23rd - 24th Mar
0040 - 25thMar - 26th Mar.
All the dates will be derived based on the above basic dates determined for activities in subnetwork and will appear the same way in any report.

Regarding project activity scheduling based on the personnel resource

hello all,
I need one help from you guys. Before explaining the problem let me tell you all the scenario. We are implementing Project system Version ECC 6.0. We have a requirement of our client that the activity duration to be changed according to the availablity of the personnel resources attached to it. We don't have HR implementation here. I have already tried with the help of calculation key setting to 'calculate Duration' to get the activity duration automatically. But customer wants as per the availability of the personnel, activity duration should get adjusted.

Hi,
I do not think it is possible. SAP's logic is to do capacity planning based on the 'work' and 'activity duration'. Hence the requirement of deciding "activity duration' based on available capanity (read man power) is just the opposite of the fundamental logic.
Further, project, by basic defintion, is an entity with definite start and end dates. Hence if you allow available capacity to decide the duration of activity and consequently the project duration, the project end date becomes indefinite and a totally dependent entity.
I do not think any system will support it.
This, I want to clarify, is based on my limited understanding, and not based on any SAP documentation

Activity Confirmation - Gantt Chart - Planning board

suppose i have a activity duration from 1st february 2009 to 28th february 2009
on 15th february i confirm 0nly 10% of the work as completed in the activity confirmation screen in the degree of processing field and also enter the start date as 1st february 2009 and the finish date as 15th february 2009.
when we look at the planning board in CJ20n transaction subsequently (gantt chart) the activity bar shows a colouring from 1st february to 15th february instead of showing only 10% of the activity bar coloured for completion of the work
where is it possible to see the percentage completion of an activity graphically as 10% this data is available in table format in CN48N transactio

we can view in table format by selecting the fileds related to percentage of completion in the project planning board (gantt chart).
The requirement you had explore is possible in MS projects, but in standard SAP we can't view in the graphically mode.

In my internal activity, i would like to break up the quantity(work) month wise. It means my planned activity quantity should be monthly.
I know that, in External activity distribution key will help to distribute.

I think you can achieve the same via using distribution key in the workcenter, you can specify how the capacity requirements of an activity are to distributed acroos activity duration.
A distribution key consist of a distribution strategy and a distribution funcation.
System determise the distribution of the capacity requirements a/c to the following strategy
1. distribution key of the activity.
2.Distribution key of the work center
3. Equal distribution acrsoos the latest dates of activities.

SNP PPM schedule duration

Hi dear APO experts,
In SNP PPM, for each activity duration only days allowed. So if there are 2 activities in one PPM and each take 1 day, then SNP planned orders created with such PPM will take 2 days in scheduling. Is it possiblle to set the schedule duration to only 1 day in such case?

the details of SNP PPM is as below:
For example, the SNP PPM only have one operation and under this operation there are 2 activities -
activity 1 and 2, which are both of type Produce. Each activity will take a fix duration of 1 day. The sequence relationship between these two activities will be activity 2 to follow activity 1.

How to Load the Resource Master for Generic Resources by Department?

We are using P6 enterprise version in our company having a central database.
Q1a.) We set the Activities view > Resource Usage Spreadsheet > Select View 1) By Resource OR 2) By Role.
The result is the spreadsheet presents the Remaining Early Units by Resource OR by Role. Other spreadsheets behave the same way. Is it possible to view the total Remaining Early Units and not have it separated by Resource OR Role?
Q1b.) We would like to find out the recommended structure to load Generic Resources (ie. professional and trades such as Civil Engineer, Mechanical Engineer, Carpenter, Welder etc.) for each Department (ie. 8221, 9362, 8524 etc.) into the Resource Library. Example: we would like to load Civil Engineer once for departments 8221, 9362, 8524, load Welder once for departments 9362, 8524, etc.
We contacted Primavera Support and they pointed us to use Roles.

i think you could try to model it like this:
- define a single "mech eng" role in the role tree (not too deep or even a flat list). no dept's mentioned here. keep the role tree strictly "speciality" oriented or anyway according to their technical classification.

- define any number of resources (either individuals, or teams or even a combination of the two) in the resuorce tree.
1 eng with a capacity of 8h/d, a fixed formation (team) regardless of the number of individuals would still have a capacity of 8h/d if they can only accomplish tasks together. if assigning a team of 5 means means faster for fixed workload or more for fixed duration then define a fixed team (again if this is the case) as a single resource with a capacity of 40h/d or simply define and assign the required number of individual eng's 8h/d max each. use activity duration type to switch between duration driving and non-driving resource usage.

- create the necessary res to role associations. one employee or team (i.e. res) can be linked to one primary qualification and several other proffesions or specialities (i.e. roles)
- when assigning to activities, if a particular individual/ team is required assign directly the res. select several activities requiring mech eng, select 1 or several mech eng's and assign them (use resource security to limit user's access to certain res nodes).
- if any res with a particular role can perform the task, assign the role. later on if you decide for a res, you can assign a particular resource through the previously assigned role. decide applicable rates and h/d between role and res.
- you can track allocation in spreadsheets and histograms by resource or role (or by activity for both). if individual res have clear capacities, for roles you can chose between custon role limits (manual) and system calculated for each role based on res having that as primary qualification (user pref)
- you can report by activity / WBS / project / portfolio (tracking)
- solve over-allocation by levelling, by switching between res for the same role, etc
- optimise duration vs. load and/or # of res/roles (and viceversa)

SNP Planned order start and end dates are not calculated correctly

Hello SNP Guru's
The SNP planned orders generated after the Heuristics run, have a start and end date based on the Activity Duration (Fixed), while the resource consumption is based on the Bucket Consumption (Variable), which is correct.
The Activity Duration (Fixed) is based on the BOM Base Quantity. So if the Activity Duration = 1 day, and if the order quantity is more than a day, the start and end dates, still shows as 1 day. So no matter what is the order quantity, the start and end dates is always = 1 day.
Does anyone have any experience in implementing any code to change the start and end dates on SNP Planned Order?
Seems like it should work as standard.
Am i missing something?

Dear Mangesh,
SNP is a infinite planning tool. If you have defined fixed duration to be 1 DAY in the activity, no matter how many quantity you input for your planned order, the order will last for one day. If the resourced is overloaded, you then run capacity levelling to
banlance the capacity. What your expected beahavior happens in PPDS planning.
