Adding a background to all topics

Hi again
I have searched the forum for this and have not found
anything. Has anyone got any ideas as to how to add a watermark to
every topic on a HTML Help File made using RH HTML (X5.01 with 5.02
upgrade)? In RH for Word, you go to the project settings and can
add an image as a watermark there and specify if you want it to
scroll with text or not.
I suppose I can do this on my RH HTML Help File, maybe in my
CSS but I am not very familiar with the way CSS files are displayed
in RH. Is there a style that relates to a topic body and that is
valid for all topics? My watermark is a jpg with the company logo
and apart from adding the relevant code in True Code on each topic,
I do not know how to do this?

1. Select Format > Styles.
2. In the Styles: window, select Background + Text (BODY),
and click Modify...
3. In the Modify Style window, click Format and select
Borders and Shading.
4. In the Borders and Shading.window, select the Shading tab.
5. In the Pattern > Image area, browse for your image and
experiment with the other settings until you get what you want.

I have some java code that I need to add within the header of every topic in my help project. Is there an easy way to do this instead of individually adding topic by topic?

What version of RH are you using? What do you mean by header? The section in HTML or just in the top of every topic?
Try a master page/template. You can create a header and add the code in there. Assign the master page to all topics et voila.

[suggestion] "Mark all topics as read" - "Mark listed topics as read"

I spend a lot of time browsing the forums, and I've come to use the "Show new posts since last visit" function to keep up with discussions. This function works best for me when combined with the "Mark all topics as read" function. To see what threads had activity since my last check, I "Show new posts...", proceed to reading the interesting ones, and finally "Mark all topics as read". The amount of unread posts, of course, is proportional to how long since my last visit, and so it takes some time for me to catch up after some absence.
Problem: During the time I spend reading new stuff there are often now posts added, so clicking "Mark all..." isn't really what I want to do.
So naturally I "Show new..." again to be sure. This works, but there is always a slight possibility that one gets added during the .5 secs it takes for me to click both links. Call me obsessive-compulsive, but it would feel good to be able to be certain.
Does anyone recognize this rationale? Are there existing solutions to this, maybe a non-web frontend or some forum feature I'm unaware of? Anyhow, if "Mark all topics as read" were replaced by "Mark listed topics as read" in the "Show new posts since last visit" view, there would be no uncertainty.
Any thoughts?

Even an extra <br> between them, or move them to one line and separate with ' - ' would help...

Adding a script to every topic in an existing WebHelp project

I've got WebHelp (RH8, but could upgrade if necessary) running on Apache.
What are my options for adding a script (probably PHP) to every topic?
In the past, with other HATs, I've put stuff like that in master pages and in skins.
From a comment in http://forums.adobe.com/message/3939811 I get the impression that nothing I do to a master page will affect existing topics?
How about skins?
Any other options besides running a script to make global changes to the source files or output files?
Obviously if I define the script globally I'd need to use variables or replaceable parameters or the like in the script to customize it for each page. Is Robo helpful for that or should I be looking to the Apache environment for those values?

Okay... Master Pages... Topic Templates... They are essentially the same thing. RoboHelp 8 began calling them Master Pages.
For starters, do we want to use Master Pages to create new topics with? Or do we want to define something inside the Master Page and apply it to existing topics?
My assumption is that you already have topics and simply wish to associate a Master Page with them.
When you define a Master Page in RoboHelp 8 or 9, it will contain a Body placeholder. Whatever is inside the Body placeholder will end up being copied into any new topics you create that use the Master Page. But that's where it ends with stuff in the Body placeholder. After you create the topic, changes to the Body placeholder inside the Master Page *ARE NOT POPULATED* into the topics created from the Master Page. So you may change the Master Page substantially and the topics associated with it will remain unaffected.
Note that you may also use a Master Page to populate Headers and Footers across existing topics. You have to do this by editing the Master Page and clicking View > Header or View > Footer in order to bring them into view. And once you do this, you may populate them with information. And using Master Pages in this fashion *DOES* allow subsequent changes to the Master Page to be populated across all topics associated with the Master Page.
The problem here is this. You are wanting to use the latter feature to populate additional content across topics. So far so good. But you also have a need to make that content customized to each topic, no? And if that's the case, you won't be able to use Master Pages to maintain that content. I suppose you might put it in a Master Page initially just to get the code copied to all topics. But when you make changes to it to individualize it on a per topic basis, RoboHelp will pop up a warning advising the topic content is different and it will ask you what you want to do. Update the Master Page so ALL topics associated see the changed code? Or disconnect from the Master Page and leave your changes as you wish inside the topic.
Another issue with this is that based on your other post, you need some PHP code above the topic content in a place that occurs before the HTML page is even defined. And that one may prove tricksy to implement. I suppose you might use what I suggested earlier to get the code in the topic, but you will still need to carefully hand edit each topic and move the code to where it should go.

Global finds across all topics in a helpset

Is there any way to perform a global find/search for one or more characters across all topics - or is this feature been requested and/or planned for a future upgrade of Oracle Help for Java?

You are right. I am already familiar with full-text searches that can be done from the Index tab by entering in one or more indexed "words".
I was asking about the future possibility of adding functionality so that the Tools>Find dialog that can currently be used to search "within an open topic" would be expanded to search one or more characters "across all help topics" in the Help Navigator.
Another feature that would make the Tools<Find dialog even more useful, even with its current functionality, would be to make the dialog non-modal - that way you could open and close topics to search for the same criteria without needing to close the Find dialog, open the next topic and then open the Find dialog again and enter in the same search criteria.

Custom CSS-Applying selected background for all the cols in the report

I am trying to set a particular background for all the columns in the report(not for all the projects,so that I can avoid option of manually setting background color for complete report.For this I thought custom CSS is best option.So edited custom.css(C:\OBI11g_Middleware\Oracle_BI1\bifoundation\web\app\res\s_blafp\b_mozilla_4) file with below code and went to the Answers-> Criteria->Choose Column->style-> check "Use Custom CSS Class"->MyCell

Somehow I dont see the background color applied to any of the columns in report.Can anyone had successful attempt of this Custom CSS.Thanks in Advance.

I started manually writing the code instead of pasting and almost worked.In the mentioned below paths I dont have custom.css file,so I created one and manually entered below code.But does it work for only that particular column and not for all the columns.Is it supposed to work for all the columns or just that column.
For example: I have 2 cols in the report,I used "Use Custom CSS Class" -> MyCell for the first column and when I ran results it shows background color for only col1 and not for col2.I thought this feature will apply background color for all the columns in the report.Please correct me if I am wrong.

Add code to all Topics in one go

I've been trying to figure this out but I just don't understand why this is happening. I'm using sed (in cygwin) to append a javascript and iframe to topics but following the sed all topics become forbidden. It must be with how I did sed so I just wanted to find out:
if there is a way to modify the masterpage with some constant content and it will roll out to all child topics. I am trying to add an iframe and javascript to all topics. The code will be exactly the same for all topics (i've created a dynamic page that will display content base on the parent page). Would I use placeholder? Adobe scripting?

The Find replace tool doesn't allow for multiple line replacement.
You can use a third-party tool for that. FAR is quite popular. See http://helpware.net/FAR/

Move these three plist files from /Users/username/Library/Preferences/ to the Desktop, OPTION-click & hold the Finder's Dock icon, and select Relaunch. Now check Help. If it now works, delete the moved files.

RH9 HTML: Publishing Deleted ALL Content from ALL Topics

One of my writers was working in a large RH9 HTML file yesterday as per usual, doing nothing out of the ordinary. When he published the WebHelp and Printed Documentation, the results were blank... all topics had no content. When looking in the Project Files pod, each topic was there, but had a red X on the icon, and properties for each one said that topic was "Missing." There was nothing in the PDF or the WebHelp. Again, he did nothing out of the ordinary, he just published those two outputs as he always has.
Since we have a script that backs up these files daily to a versioned environment, we were able to get back good files without the need to recreate too much work, and I'm having this writer blow away and reinstall his version of RH9.
Has anyone run into this before? Is there anything we should look into? I'm worried this will happen again.

I've been using Adobe products with shared network locations for years, and have heard many claims about how working from there hoses everything. I've found it's true for gargantuan projects, and the only symptom I get in that situation is performance (e.g., press the A key within a topic, and a second or two later, the letter A appears). But any non-bloated project has always worked well for me when the .xpj is on a share. We're now doing our own backups onto our desktops just to be safe.
My team found this forum, with a poster who has many of the same issues we had. Mr. Grainge suggests deleting the .cpd file and ensuring your path isn't too long.

If you are a Verizon user, try this:
Open the phone and dial *228. This is a Verizon over-the-air programming number.
When the system answer press 1 for "Program or activate your phone"
Wait for the call to disconnect. You should get a prompt stating "Settings updated."
Double tap the Home button to bring up the recently used apps list at the bottom. Locate the Phone, Message, and Contacts apps, swiping if necessary, and press and hold until they jiggle then press the red minus sign to stop them.
Wait a 3-5 minutes.
Open the Message App to see if they're fixed.

How to set a background for all users of an administration?
Logged in as superuser and done de following:
>Administration>System Initialisation>General Settings
>Tab 'Font & Bkgd'
>Option Background, selected Browse for picture and then pdate
Only shows on the person who set the background, not for other users

you can open the table OUSR and paste the full path of the image (you should store it on the server) to each user.

Customise desktop background for all network user accounts

Hi,
I have 12 MAC OS X 10.6 Clients on A Windows 2008 R2 Server. I cannot use Group Policies from Active Directory to customise my default user desktops on the MACs. Can I do this from the MAC stations? It has to work for network users not just local accounts?

If you're looking to make a desktop background universal and system wide regardless of user, then it's easy. The default user folder is in /System/Library/User\ Template
It's protected from access unless you're logged in as root, either in the gui or terminal.
Just change the pertenant preference file in the Library folder to reflect your new desktop background and all should be well. Any time a NEW user logs in, when their home folder is created, it will include that desktop background pref file.
If you're running the magic triangle, then you just have to set that preference in Workgroup Manager.
If you're not sure or comfortable with this, then write back and we'll help you further. More info on your server set up etc would be helpful in this regard.
