Adding a favicon

Hello. I'd like to add a favicon to my website and I tried to follow what I read on the Adobe Contribute blog. I made the favicon.ico but when I followed the directions for adding it by
uploading it to your Server root folder, using Contribute through the option File-> Publish File from my Computer.
I received the following prompt.
"Please enter a filename for this new page. The filename will be part of the pages web address."
Did I do something wrong? I have read online that in some instances you can just upload the favicon to your root folder and the browser will see it.
I'd like to do this using Contribute since I don't do code and I don't have a program like dreamweaver.
Thanks-

Hi Dominic:
I've been trying to locate my root folder. I've tried placing the favicon in home and home-images via ftp with no luck. Exactly how do I publish it directly to the site root folder? Do I do that through Contribute?
Thanks-
Jim

  • Adding a favicon to a template

    i am trying to add a favicon to a template in cs6, and it just isn't working

    Put  this in the <head> of each page:
    <link rel="shortcut icon" href="http://www.yoursite/images/favicon.ico" />
    <link rel="icon" type="image/png" href="http://www.yoursite/images/favicon.ico" />
    Of course use the exact absolute path to your favicon file.
    Save and upload those pages.
    Then upload your .ico file the same way you would upload any image on your site.

  • New favicon will not display in Firefox, but does display in Safari

    I am working on a new website and uploaded the favicon.ico into the root folder (Go Daddy). The favicon appears when I use Safari, not does not appear in Firefox... I have a mac OSX version 10.5 I have cleared the history and cache too. Any thoughts?

    I have this problem too. I've just loaded my favicon.ico into my root folder and it shows next to the site url in latest Safari 5.0.5, but not in Firefox 3.6.17 - neither next to the site url nor on the page name tab.
    Firefox also does not show the favicon in the Tools > Page Info > Media tab, although this does list just three of the many jpgs and pngs within its folders. I've just added the favicon.ico to the folder where it does see a jpg and png, but no joy, still not displayed. See attached png.
    How do I overcome this problem? Is there a plugin that resolves this issue? It would be nice to have some color in the page name tabs. Many sites, such as this one, do have their favicons displayed by Firefox...

  • Add a favicon to iweb via the HTML snippet...how?

    Is there a way to add a favicon to iweb via the HTML snippet?
    My search on google has found many ways to do it by editing the published files, but this is more work than it is worth (since it needs to be done on every new publish).
    Any ideas?
    thanks

    There's been no way to add a favicon via HTML snippet that I've found. Using TextWrangler which can do multi-file find and replace doing it the old fashion way, post publication editing, is a little easier as described in Old Toad's Tutorial #22 - Adding a Favicon to Your Web Site.

  • Favicon on MobileMe web site won't display with Safari - OK with Firefox

    I have a web site published to MobileME using iWeb - I have added a favicon and updated HTML accordingly. Now after trying every combination of code and searching the Safari, iWeb and MobileMe forums I cannot figure out why my favicon will not display using Safari but will with just about every other browser (Firefox, IE, Netscape are the ones I've tried on a Windows PC - also won't dispaly using Safari for Windows). Any ideas???
    I've put the favicon file in the web.me.com/pat.schafer/web/sites folder as well as the web.me.com/pat.schafer/web/sites/sitename folder and added the HTML ref code to every html file - I'm going crazy.

    Hi Certified - tried your tips to no avail. I'm beginning to think it's some interaction (bug??) when using a site published to MobileMe (and iWeb?) and Safari. Note I also tried using Windows Safari on a PC which had never viewed the site and it still showed the Apple favico but as previously stated Firefox, and IE on this PC did show my favicon. (I have not tried to load Firefox on my iMac but may try this as well.) I'd try the Apple Support Center but I don't hold up much hope of their being able to assist - I was at the Genius Bar yesterday in the Sydney shop on another matter (broken mouse) and asked about this favicon issue and was told it was beyond the scope of what they can assist with.
    Hello Old Toad - thanks anyway for the tip on the OVI slideshow - also thanks to your earlier tips on using OVI I did know about the trick of using a transparent shape but had got around to doing this - I'm still in the early stages of learning using iWeb ... the site in question is just a bit of a "sandbox". In fact I'm pretty much on my way to a bookshop to get a book an HTML and other web design technologies - clearly one must really understand the underlying technology to make these things work.

  • Favicon code for bookmark link on page displayed

    I have successfully added a favicon to the url bar and the browser tab and the page bookmark(firefox) or favorites(IE) feature.
    But, how do I add it to the bookmark link code I have put in the page template. I ask this because I have created a bookmark link on the page for the user to use in saving the location of the page without the session number in the bookmark/favorite. This is the code for the bookmark link:
    {div align=right}
    {a href="javascript:window.external.AddFavorite('http://apex.gov:XXXX/APP_NAME', 'APP_NAME')"}
    {span style="font-size: 11px;color:#333333"}Bookmark Site{/span}{/a}{div}
    Where would I put this part in?
    {link rel="shortcut icon" href="#WORKSPACE_IMAGES#favicon32.ico" type="image/x-icon"/}
    Please note that I used curly braces instead of pointy braces.
    Thanks,
    Maggie

    If you put the link to your favicon somewhere between the head tags of your page it should work (not tested though).

  • Favicon not appearing in Internet Explorer

    I have added a Favicon to my site which appears OK in both Firefox and Google Chrome.
    However I can't find a way of getting in to display in Internet Explorer.
    Comparing it to the coding for my ISP home page it looks to me that it is in the right place.
    I know this is nitpicky, but has anyone got any ideas?
    My site is www.stayatmyhouse.net (see attached).
    Regards
    John

    Answering my own query, I notice that 'extra code' might be required to achieve this in IE6 or higher, can anyone confirm this?
    However, after clearing my browser cache I notice that the Favicon image is appearing next to the site in my favourites, so I'm getting there slowly.

  • Firefox not displaying favicon/.ico file for specific website

    Firefox has always displayed the favicon for my website, until recently. Now there is just a blank space where the favicon should be. I am able to see the favicon for all other websites except my own. It is a wordpress site, so I followed their most recent instructions for adding a favicon. I even tried some other guidelines and tips for adding .ico files, just in case wordpress was missing something, but still no luck. I have double-checked the file format as a 16x16px .ico file and made sure the code & image location within my website directory was correct... Everything looks as it should. The favicon is displaying perfectly in all other browsers I tried, such as Chrome, Safari, Opera & IE. I have cleared my cache, cleared my browser history and even uninstalled/reinstalled Firefox. I also tried another computer using a different IP address. It just isn't displaying.
    When I preview the .ico file under 'page info -> media' it looks like Firefox is locating the image and recognizing the file dimensions, but nothing appears in the preview window and under 'file size' it just says "unknown (not cached)."
    Here is the link to the site: http://www.mattielynn.com/
    Does anyone know why this might be happening?

    That image doesn't seem to be working in Firefox 3 and 8 (works in Firefox 9 and later).
    It works if I save it as 24 bit instead of 32 bit.

  • Favicon.ico on custom domain with .mac?

    I get that there's no direct support for favicon's -
    So what I've done is added the favicon.ico file to my
    domain in the root and site directories on my iDisk–
    but when I access the site it still shows the blue apple
    network gel as the favicon. I've even tried adding the
    shortcut code directly to the HTML- no luck.
    Also, is there anyway to add 'title' tags to a page?
    That seems pretty basic...
    Also, Also - where the heck is the local copy of the
    site on my drive?
    Thanks!

    So what I've done is added the favicon.ico file to my
    domain in the root and site directories on my iDisk–
    Create a favicon and add it to the root of the webserver.
    Then every webpage should have this code in the HEAD of the page. Something like:
    <link rel="shortcut icon" href="/wyodor/apple-touch-icon.png" />
    It cannot be entered in iWeb. You need a HTML Editor.
    Also, is there anyway to add 'title' tags to a page?
    The title of a webpage is based on the large textbox at the top of each iWeb page. It's already there. You do not need to add it.
    Also, Also - where the heck is the local copy of the
    site on my drive?
    ~/Library/Application Support/iWeb/domain.sites2

  • Contribute and Favicons

    Hi everybody
    How can I add a Favicon using Contribute ?
    Thank's for your reply.
    Sam

    While this correct as far as uploading the file to the
    server, the code component of adding a favicon cannot be added
    using Contribute unless the role you are using has access to the
    "Edit Page Source in External Application" command under the
    Actions submenu of the File menu.
    Assuming that you have access to this function (if not
    contact the administrator of your site) then you need to add the
    following code into the "head" section of the document:
    <link rel="shortcut icon" href="/images/favicon.ico"
    type="image/x-icon" />
    Make sure to replace the value of the "href" attribute with
    the path to your particular icon (the path is relative to the
    webroot of your site).

  • Changing Mobile Website Icon When Added to Home Screen of a Mobile

    Does anybody know how to change the icon on the mobile layout when a user 'Adds to Home Screen'? Also, is it possible to add the mobile website to the users homescreen by having a button or code in place? Any help would be hugely appreciated people!! Thanks a lot!!

    Bookmark saved in phone homescreen would be favicon of your site , which you can change from Site properties.
    Regarding adding site favicon in homescreen , you can add the browser bookmark in homescreen first and then from browser settings , add bookmark with site name in home screen.
    Thanks,

  • Favicon and Apple-touch-icon on a person domain.

    I've just set up Zyber17.com and I was wondering how to set up a favicon and an apple-touch-icon, any help would be greatly appreciated.
    I'm sure this has been answered before...
    Facts (in case it makes a difference):
    -I registered with 1and1
    -I'm using it as a personal domain inside of the MobileMe settings (which means I changed the CNAME on my 1and1 control panel)
    -I don't mind tinkering with HTML, and JavaScript.
    Thanks in advance!

    As long as you don't have domain name masking you can use the method described in Old Toad's Tutorial #22 - Adding a Favicon to Your Web Site. If you're not publishing to MobileMe just pic a different location for the favicon to reside and link to it there.

  • Favicon.ico outside .mac hosting

    Hi,
    I am currently using Iweb08 as my web design and had download Iweb Expander for creating my favicon.ico
    Questions: Will my favicon.ico works if I publish my site out from .Mac (using the above apps)
    Thank you

    iWebExpander works... It does it's job...
    The only problem, at least for the moment is that iWebExpander is “Crashing” my Finder... But that’s a minor problem...
    About the crashing:
    You maybe will get a popup "AppleScript Error" bla bla bla. It's only a popup doesn't mean anything. When the popup appears the process of adding the Favicon is finished.
    You maybe will have the spinning circle when in Finder. When the popup appears go to your dock select the finder icon click(and hold click) it and do "Relaunch finder".
    You don't have to restart or something. You don't have loss of data. It will not shut down unexpectedly. And so on...
    +Nevertheless the job gets done...+
    *I was told by Max that there will be an update soon*
