Adding a new Distribution point

Hi all
I have just finished setting up my first SCCM Server and so far so good. I would like to add another distribution point to a remote site to push out images and applications locally rather than over the wan. I just wondered what the best way of doing this
was? I am going to need to be able to PXE from this DP so im guessing Server 2012 would be the OS i will need to use. Will i need another SCCM license to add a new DP?
Many Thanks
Liam

I suggest that you take a look at my prerequisites installation tool for ConfigMgr 2012 R2, it will make the installation process a lot faster:
1. Download the tool: https://gallery.technet.microsoft.com/ConfigMgr-2012-R2-e52919cd
2. Install the DP with OS (use the recommended version from Jason).
3. Run the tool and select to install the prerequisites for a Distribution Point.
4. Add the Primary Site server in the local Administrators group.
5. Begin the site system role installation from the ConfigMgr console.
Easy as that :)

  • Preparing New Distribution Point for Deployment

Details: ConfigMgr 2012 R2, Windows Server 2012 and 2012 R2 (for some of the DP's already in production)
I have a new site opening up soon and we will be deploying a server to act as DP and PXE point. The new server is in my office where I have another production DP for the office.
My question is, can I onboard this new server as a DP and PXE point in my office, copy all the packages to it, box it up and take it to the new site, give it a new IP...all without causing a problem when it springs up in the new location. Would all the packages
need to be copied over again? Should I just create prestaged packages for everything? This scenario will come up very often when my company brings up new facilities, so I am just looking for a good way to run the process.

Yes, that will work fine. All you'll have to do is re-IP it when it gets to its destination (as you mentioned) and make sure to include it in its proper boundary group also. Make sure to update DNS also. I'm also assuming there's no domain or name
change involved as that would certainly throw a monkey wrench into it.

  • Adding new distribution channel

    Hi,
I added a new distribution channel and added the relevant divisions,. Also set upd the sales areas. It picks correctly when trying to create the sales order.
but when i try to create a material in this new sales area if t gives a error sayin invalid sales area in the material master creation.
could there be any setting i could have missed? appreciate ur help on this.
    Thanks
    Keshini

    Dear Keshini,
Please do the settings for common divisions and distribution channels through VOR1 and VOR2 transactions.
    Then try,
I hope this will help you,

  • Cannot download software from second distribution point SCCM2012

I recently added a second distribution point to my SCCM 2012, I am able to replicate software over to the new server. When I go and uncheck the first
distribution point and only have the second one associated with software it cannot be downloaded. I get an error that the software cannot be found on any servers at this time. What is the proper setup to allow software to be downloaded from only the second
one and not the first one? I want to test it and make sure it will work on it's own.

    Hi,
How are your boundary groups configured? have you added the new DP to a boundary group so that the clients know it should use it? it sounds like that could be the issue..

  • Suspend upload of packages to a distribution point

    Imagine this situation:
I've created a new distribution point and added it to a distribution point group with a lot of content (packages) assigned to the group. I discover right after SCCM starts to upload packages to the new DP, that the network usage to that office reaches its
limit, and instead of using Rate limits, I would like to stop the package transfer for a while until the weekend comes. If I want to suspend the upload of packages to a distribution point for a day or two, will it be OK to remove the new DP from the DP group?
    Freddy

You can certainly remove the DP from the group, but I doubt that that would stop the flow of content. It may also cause the content to be deployed, then removed, and then redeployed when you add it again.
Why not just temporarily change the rate limits or scheduling window and then change it back later?

  • Distribution point not installing

I'm having some issues with a new Distribution point. This is my first Server 2012 R2 distribution point and after installing the roles and features (I believe are required) the distribution point does not install. I can't see anything on the distribution
point, nor can I see any configuration on the SCCM console. It displays as a site system with a role of Distribution point but distmgr.log does not display any activity except

If anyone has the list of Operating system requirements for a DP running on Server 2012R2 it would be appreciated also.

I've just tried to reach the admin$ from a remote PC and (from the local server) using PSexec and I can read the admin$ directory without any issues so there is access to the remote DP. I haven't yet looked at the firewall logs but only because
the firewall ports are already allowing traffic to our other DP's.
do the firewall rules differ from server 2008, 2012 and 2012R2? (I have previous 2008 and 2012 servers but this is the first R2 server we are setting up as a DP.)
The firewall rules are the same for 2k8 and 2k12.
When you reach the admin$ share are you using Psexec as the system account and not your use account ? (-i -s as Torsten mentionned) ?
Do you have any other firewall maybe between the machine and the site Server ?
Do you have the SCCMContentLib folder created on the DP ? (On the drive specified in the wizard).

  • SCCM 2012: failed to connect to distribution point

    Hi folks,
I have an intermittent issue and can't figure out the reason so far.
I have a primary server and multiple distribution points. The primary does not have a DP configured. When I deploy a new distribution point, I have the following messages:
Distribution Manager failed to connect to the distribution point. Check your network and firewall settings.
    and
Distribution Manager failed to find or create the defined share or volume on distribution point.
    DistMgr.log shows the following:
    CWmi::Connect() failed to connect to \\AMB-SCCM-E.domain.name\root\CIMv2. Error = 0x800706BA

Cannot find or create the package share.
Error occurred. Performing error cleanup prior to returning.
However, after a while (couple of hours), it looks like everything is distributed on the DP. But this message keeps on coming back during the course of the day and every time a new DP is deployed.
I checked permissions, IIS, WMI, but I can't find out the cause of this behavior. I have events about WMI (id 5605) but I can connect to the WMI workspace (root\MicrosoftIISv2) with no issues.
Can anyone shed some light on this please? It would be greatly appreciated.
    Cheers,
    Safdar.

To clarify: it's not enough to tick "Windows Authentication" in Add Roles/Features - it actually has to be enabled in IIS configuration.

  • Distribution Point migration status in CM12 console

    Hi,
We are using sccm 2012 r2 cu2. we are in middle of migration.
We have in sccm 2007 under secondary site server name assd1 it contain MP and DP role.
Under ASSd1 server i was created one of the distribution point server and copied all the package to the new server assd2.
I created this new distribution point last week.
Today I gathered data from sccm 2007 to sccm2012.
Previously I did the same almost 5 servers and after sccm2012 administration-->under site hierarchy--> shared distribution point it shows. after that i will migrate to sccm2012 DP
but this server not showing. but when i saw migctrl.log i can see the log
The DP assd2.xxx.org is eligible for upgrade
but not showing under administration-->under site hierarchy--> shared distribution

    Issue got resolved..

  • Unable to create package shares on distribution points

For any OSD packages in our environment (like images, driver packages, etc) I always check the option "Copy the content in this package to a package share on distribution points", so that we are able to run content directly from the DP's in a task
sequence instead of downloading it first to clients. But I've noticed now that for any new package I create, the package shares aren't being created thus my OSD tasks are failing due to missing content. When I check the copy content option for a new driver
package and monitor the distmgr.log, here is what I see:

That same sequence of errors is repeated for every distribution point we have. I checked the sharing permissions on the SMSPGKE$ and SMSSIG$ folders on the DP and everything looks correct. I only started noticing this issue after our SP1 upgrade, but I can't
find anything from Microsoft saying this is a known bug or how to fix it. This is also affecting new distribution points that we created after the SP1 upgrade, so I don't believe going down the remove/reinstall of all the DP's route will work. Any suggestions?

  • Setup additional distribution point

    Hi all,
Currently i have one SCCM server setup and it already has distribution point role installed. We have several branches with limited network bandwidth and file server for each of them.
My question is, is it possible to add more than one distribution point to one SCCM server and assign them to related branch? I am considering to set the file server on each branch as additional distribution point on the master "SCCM" server. How
    can i achieve this?
    Thanks.

It is not possible to add particular site system role in this case DP to multiple time for single server.
However it is possible to setup upto 100 distribution point & 2000 branch distribution point per site. you may use your branch file servers as distribution point/branch distribution point. please refer below link for more information.
    http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/bb680869.aspx
you may set these new distribution points/branch distribution point as protected one, so only client from particular branch/remote office can access it.

  • R2 - Distribution Point not working properly

From my main SCCM R2 server, I went to add an additional server with multiple roles.
I can't tell if it's working properly, however.
For example, the Distribution Point role. I've set it as PXE boot, and our Cisco admin has setup an IP helper accordingly, but when I go to boot a client to PXE, it gets an error "Windows failed to start".
    File: \Tmp\x86x64{13902C6F-DD5F-4467-88C9-1BAC44DF8287}.bcd
    status: 0xc0000098
Info: The windows boot configuration data (BCD) file from the PXE server does not contain a valid operating system entry. Ensure that the server has boot images installed for this architecture.
From Boot Images on the main SCCM server, I had pushed them to the distribution point. Or so I thought? I mean, the "In Progress" tab says the distribution point server name I'm trying to push it to under the "Device" column. Then
Description reads "Distribution Manager Successfully processed package "Boot Image (x64)" (package ID = STL00005)".
But it's been sitting like that for over an hour...
WDS role is also installed on the DP I'm trying to PXE boot from.
Should I disable WDS and then what do I do in SCCM to get it to PXE boot and make sure the boot file for SCCM is on there?

    Nvm I got it up
I removed the WDS server but not the role of the DP in question
I then removed the roles from the server within SCCM console
Then added back only Distribution Point, then I was able to distribute the boot ups to it again, no errors in logs
PXE boot working fine with task sequences
This is what I ran into after getting PXE to not throw DHCP error

  • Distribution Points content missmatch - WMI and content library

    Hi,
We are using SCCM 2012 R2 with stand alone primary site.
After creating a new Distribution Point we distribute our task sequence content there.
This takes some time and after this the distributen point is shown as "Success" in "Distribution Point Configuration Status".
Content of the packages is shown as "Success", too.
We recognized this failure while trying to run our task sequence.
It breaks and tells us content is not available.
After a short check with the following script:
http://sccmroad.wordpress.com/2014/03/11/powershell-script-to-compare-dp-packages-with-wmi/all content is in WMI but NOT in content library.
We tried to redistribute etc. - everything without success.
After some try and error we found out that using prestaged content solves the problem.
This is a workaround but no solution to the problem. :(
Are there any ideas to how to find a solution?
    Thank you for your help.
    kind regards
    mk-maddin

    I opened a Microsoft case.
After a lot of searching through logs - not providing any error etc. we tested for packages.
Solution was to redistribute for packages (for applications we had to update the content).
A very hard task at this was the information which packages and distribution points are affected.
I wrote a little script to do this task:

  • Sync distribution points?

    Hi,
Is there an easy way to sync distribution points?
Now we have some packages which were only distributed to DP1, we'd need to select those and distribute it to DP2. I can select them in content status but not select them to distribute to other DP.
    J.
    Jan Hoedt

You'll need to create a new distribution point group and add your DP's as members (you can do that at creation time of the group or later on once you have distributed the content to the group).
Afterwards in the distribute content wizard click the Add button and select distribution point group (instead of distribution point). A list with all DP groups will be displayed, just pick the one that contains the DP's to which you want the content
    to be distributed.

When I take a client and put it on a different subnet, the application downloads from another working DP.

  • Adding New SCCM 2012 SP1 Distribution Point To Replace Existing Distribution Point

We currently in the process of the doing a site server refresh at all our remote sites. Each remote site currently has a physical 2012 SP1 DP, and will be replaced with  a new DP at each location, and will eventually decommission the current one.
What's the best way to introduce a new DP and remove the old one?
    Thanks
    Bern

You can use this method if distributing through the WAN is not an option.
    http://blogs.technet.com/b/kensmith/archive/2013/08/01/migrating-the-content-library-between-distribution-points-in-sccm-2012-sp1.aspx
If you don't care, just add it to SCCM and replicate your content. Modify your boundary once done.
I hope you have a DP Group, if so, just make it member of the group and all your content will be copied. If not, you'll have to go through all your content and add it manually or script the process using PowerShell.
To remove your existing it's simply a matter of removing the "Distribution Point" role on your Server using the SCCM Console. (Administration / Site Configuration /Site Server, select your distribution point, right click Remove)
