Preparing New Distribution Point for Deployment

Details: ConfigMgr 2012 R2, Windows Server 2012 and 2012 R2 (for some of the DP's already in production)
I have a new site opening up soon and we will be deploying a server to act as DP and PXE point. The new server is in my office where I have another production DP for the office.
My question is, can I onboard this new server as a DP and PXE point in my office, copy all the packages to it, box it up and take it to the new site, give it a new IP...all without causing a problem when it springs up in the new location. Would all the packages
need to be copied over again? Should I just create prestaged packages for everything? This scenario will come up very often when my company brings up new facilities, so I am just looking for a good way to run the process.

Yes, that will work fine. All you'll have to do is re-IP it when it gets to its destination (as you mentioned) and make sure to include it in its proper boundary group also. Make sure to update DNS also. I'm also assuming there's no domain or name
change involved as that would certainly throw a monkey wrench into it.

  • Need to Deploy Distribution Points for 700 Offices on Windows 7 Systems with 128kbps of Bandwidth

    Hello Everyone,
Need to deploy Distribution Points for 700 sites on windows 7 with 128kbps of link.During Office hours DP fails as entire 128 kbps of link is utilized.During non business hours it gets succeeded.
    Setup for SCCM 2012-
    1 Primary Server at DC
    Secondary Server @ HO
100 DP's already created on link of 128 Kbps
Is there any option of creating Offline DP's in 2012......
How can I fastern the Process of DP Creation??????
Any help would be highly appreciated.......
    Regards
    Saurabh

    Hi Jeff/Torsten,
    Thanks for the revert.
Just to inform you that I need to Create fresh Distribution Point on Windows 7 systems as above technet link is used once you have setup distribution points if you need not have to utilized your 128kbps bandwidth in that scenario I can prestage the content
and copy that content on remote DP.
Please correct me if I'm  wrong.

  • Problem with option: enable this distribution point for prestaged content

Hi, for past few days I have been focused on application deployment with SCCM 2012 R2 (I am learning SCCM 2012 R2 reading books, watching video trainings . . .). Having followed allong book Mastering System Center 2012 R2 Configuration Manager I also did
deployment of Microsoft Office 2013, Adobe Reader 11, Foxit Reader 4.2 and Notepad ++ to test collection containing one Windows 7 computer. In one of examples prestaged content file is created for Foxit Reader application. In order to do so, if I am
right, option Enable this distribution point for prestaged content
has to be checked on distribution point and I did that.
Problem is that I noticed deployment of any application to test collection failed every time - system waits for prestaged content file if this option is selected. Then I have to delete deployment of given application, application itself, deselect option
Enable this distribution point for prestaged content and create app, distribute it to DP and deploy to test collection - then everything works well.
To make things worse, having deselect option Enable this distribution point for prestaged content (I did it yesterday and I checked that several times) this morning I checked again and this option is selected again. What might be the cause
of this behaviour? I expected this option to be deselected - this is weird to say at least.

When you enable the option "Enable this distribution
point for prestaged content" on a DP, it causes newly created applications/packages to default to "Manually copy the content in this package to the distribution point"... This would then cause the deployments on the clients to remain
at 'waiting for content' - unless if you manually prestage the content, as this option requires it.
If you enable the option "Enable this distribution
point for prestaged content" on the DP, but want to automatically have CM distribute the content, then configure the app/package to do so,
before distributing the content: Distribution Settings tab > Prestaged distribution point settings > Automatically download content when packages are assign to distribution points.

  • Org Unit as Distribution Point for Document Distribution

    Hello Experts,
I would like to maintain a distribution point for the document distribution. Therefore i still have maintained the distribution point (it is an org unit) in the available communication types (INT, RML,..) in SPRO...->Document Distribution->Define Communication Type.
But now every time when a distribution package will be started for distribution I get an error message: "Function <senden> not possible". The package should be send via distribution type INT to the distribution point.
Perhaps the communication type INT is not maintained for the org unit yet?Where can i do this?
    Regards,
    Christian

    Hi Christian
The distribution point under Type of distribution point and Distribution point is used under the following conditions:
    1. If distribution is initiated manually and the Distribution immediately indicator was set without entering an explicit distribution point.
    2. If distribution is initiated manually and the
Distribution immediately indicator was not set.
    3. If distribution is initiated by an event.
If the "Send to distribution point" indicator is set and no distribution point is entered explicitly, the current user becomes the distribution point if distribution is initiated manually. If distribution is initiated by an event, the user that triggered the event becomes the distribution point.
Follow this Procedure. Also Check all the setting in Define Distributio Types for Distribution type INT
where you mention distribution Point details. You will have to explore alittle bit.

  • Determine Distribution Point For PC Naming

I'm trying to automate the PC Naming process during Windows 7 Deployment with MDT 2010 and SCCM 2012.
I need to add a 3-character site code to the PC name, but I'm not sure how to get it.  Ideally, I would like to identify the distribution point used for OSD, and then based on that distribution point, create a custom MDT variable that is the site code,
and later add that custom variable to a string that will be the name.
For example, if a computer was imaged using DP01.mycomapny.local as a distribution point, then MDT customsettings.ini would set the custom variable
SiteCode  = HOU and later in the CustomSettings.ini I would have
    OSDComputerName = %SiteCode%-%SerialNumber%
My problem is that I don't know how to determine the distribution point from inside customsettings.ini.  Any help would be greatly appreciated.

You can use TS Variable "OSDComputerName" for defining new computer name  and "_SMSTSSiteCode" for determining Site Code. What are you want to use as SerialNumber?
    Vladimir Zelenov | http://systemcenter4all.wordpress.com
Bob - thanks for your reply.  I know that OSDComputerName is that variable I want to set.  I also know that
SerialNumber is another builtin MDT variable that will pull the machine's serial from the BIOS.  I can't use
_SMSTSSiteCode because I need the distribution point name, not the SCCM site code.  When I mentioned that I need to add a 3-character site code to the value for OSDComputerName, I didn't mean the SCCM site.  The site code I need to
use is an in-house site code for geographic areas.  Our SCCM infrastructure has 1 parent site that services multiple geogrpahic areas within a small region, with each geographic area having its own unique company site code.  Also, each company site
has a distribution point, not a secondary site server.  So, I need to be able to identify the distrubtion point that is handling the OS deployment, not the SCCM site.

  • Issue setting up PXE Enabled Distribution point for SCCM 2012.

I'm trying to set up SCCM 2012 in my Lab Enviroment in order to plan for implmentation to production.
I have installed and Configure one Primary site which has a working DP role width PXE /WDS.
And i am able to successfully do and OS Deployment.
I want to setup an additional Distribution point with PXE, to simulate a branch Office.
Installation of the second Distribution point looks to be succesfull, but i'm not able to boot on PXE.
It allways gives me the error messeage "The Windows Boot Configuration Data file does not contain a vaild OS entry
The same error messeage is given before i distributed the boot images (both x86 and x64)

Server is a clean installed Windows 2008 R2, only added to domain, added the primary SCCM server account as local Admin, added WDS Role and configured RemoteFolder before adding DP role from the SCCM Console. (So SCCM has installed and Configured IIS)

Looks like i have found the answer at least i have got it to work.
Once i install .Net Framework 3.5.1 Feature on the server, i was able to boot succesfully into SCCM Task Sequence Wizard.
I also was successfull installing the the PXE DP role from the console succesfully without having to install WDS first.
So i guess that .Net Framework 3.5.1 is required for PXE DP role on Windows 2008 R2. (but i can't see that mentioned anywhere here http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/c1e93ef9-761f-4f60-8372-df9bf5009be0#BKMK_SiteSystemRolePrereqs)

  • Adding a new Distribution point

    Hi all
I have just finished setting up my first SCCM Server and so far so good. I would like to add another distribution point to a remote site to push out images and applications locally rather than over the wan. I just wondered what the best way of doing this
was? I am going to need to be able to PXE from this DP so im guessing Server 2012 would be the OS i will need to use. Will i need another SCCM license to add a new DP?
    Many Thanks
    Liam

I suggest that you take a look at my prerequisites installation tool for ConfigMgr 2012 R2, it will make the installation process a lot faster:
    1. Download the tool: https://gallery.technet.microsoft.com/ConfigMgr-2012-R2-e52919cd
    2. Install the DP with OS (use the recommended version from Jason).
    3. Run the tool and select to install the prerequisites for a Distribution Point.
    4. Add the Primary Site server in the local Administrators group.
    5. Begin the site system role installation from the ConfigMgr console.
    Easy as that :)

  • Remote Distribution Points for Software Update Point Site

    Hi,
I have deployed Primary Site MP (SCCM 2012 R2) in the Main Office. In our environment, we have many remote offices with limited internet connection.
Is it best to setup Secondary Site in those remote offices or setup Distribution Points? What are the considerations?
    Thanks.
    ~Andre

You only install one SUP. You can't install a SUP on DP's, and you don't need to install WSUS on DP's either, just IIS.
The clients will need to connect to the SUP (port 8530) to get the windows update catalogue. If they can't connect to your MP and SUP directly, then you will need to check your proxy configuration on the clients
Once the client has performed a scan, it will then match what it determines are "required updates" against what you have deployed in its client policy.
The client then connects to the local DP to download the updates and install them.
The client only downloads policy from an MP. If you have a DP on the same server as the MP then clients may try to download updates if you don't have your content boundaries configured correctly, and have also allowed them to use a fallback location.
To prevent clients going over the WAN to download the updates, check your update deployment under the "Download Settings" tab and choose "Do not install software updates" on both the options, and make sure you have your content location
boundaries configured correctly with the DP at each remote site assigned to the correct boundary.

  • Using new Distribution Channel for dealers.

    Hi experts
Currently Domestic sales is operating only on one channel  DD.
Proposal is to set DR channels for all Dealers sales and DD will be used only for Retail Sales .
DR Channel was previously configured but we were only using DD channel for both retailors & dealers sales.. all configuration is already done like sales area setup  and pricing etc. for DR channel
so i would like to what are the pros and cons for using two Distribution channel and maintainence we require.
    thank  you

You need to extend all customers and materials for new distribution channel.
You also neeed to maintain prices for DD and DR channels separately.
ITs advantage is this that your reporting will be separately executed. You can check how much sales you have done in retail and how much you have done in Whole sale.
I dont know what kind of business your company is running. I suggest you to make a provision for 3rd distribution channel which is DC. B2B sales. corporate sales. May after some months or years your company feel need of it.
For extending customers and materials 2 uploads will do this. Ask you ABAPER to create uploads.
There must be separate distribution channels for corporate, retail, wholesale and Expots if your company is dealing with exports sale.
Hope its clear to you now

  • HOW TO CREATE A NEW J2EE APP FOR DEPLOYING ORACLE REPORTS USING JDEVELOPER?

    Hi,
I'm new to JDeveloper and Java, JSP etc. I'm trying to deploy a sample parameter form for JSP report. My question is: When I create a J2EE application using JDeveloper, how to make sure "The WEB-INF directory must contain the JSP tag library for Oracle Reports, called reports_tld.jar"? How to do it via JDeveloper?
    In my JSP page, I use <%@ taglib uri="/WEB-INF/lib/reports_tld.jar" prefix="rw" %>.

Does anyone know the answer to this question?
I get the following error in Jdeveloper when running my test jsp report:

  • Costa Rica, new sale point for creative? maybe? please

    Hello
I am from Costa Rica, central America.
I decided to buy a Zen Vision M, because here in my country, we are aware of the quality of sound and video that you can get from any Creative product.
Many persons use Ipods, here, people who knows a little bit of technology , know that the most popular thing is not necessarily the best.
The fact that here in Costa Rica, you can only purchase ipod products and accessories, really makes me feel uncomfortable, I had to ask my brother to buy the Zen for me in the US , and then bring it to me on his next travel, but I forgot to ask for the skin to protect it, ?no it is all scratched , but still working beautifully. I haven?t been able to find a single store that sales accessories for Zen or any creative product, just Video cards and sound blaster.
Ok, my point with all this , is maybe let you know , that there is a market waiting for you. Now everybody here is buying generic products , low quality and unknown names, ?because is the only thing left after ipods , that
Is exactly the same low quality product.
    Thanks?

CoreTemp and MSI Afterburner also work well for checking both the CPU and GPU.
It sounds more like the thermal compound is bad and/or the heatsinks/fans are very dusty. I'd grab some compressed air and blow everything out quick just to check it, and then see if the temps drop a little. If they don't, then the compound probably needs to be replaced.
I'm not sure if that will effect any warranty you have though, so I would be wary of doing it.

  • Suspend upload of packages to a distribution point

    Imagine this situation:
I've created a new distribution point and added it to a distribution point group with a lot of content (packages) assigned to the group. I discover right after SCCM starts to upload packages to the new DP, that the network usage to that office reaches its
limit, and instead of using Rate limits, I would like to stop the package transfer for a while until the weekend comes. If I want to suspend the upload of packages to a distribution point for a day or two, will it be OK to remove the new DP from the DP group?
    Freddy

You can certainly remove the DP from the group, but I doubt that that would stop the flow of content. It may also cause the content to be deployed, then removed, and then redeployed when you add it again.
Why not just temporarily change the rate limits or scheduling window and then change it back later?

  • Application won't download/install from distribution point

    Hello,
I have a new distribution point that clients refuse to download application deployments from. The advertisement(s) get stuck at "Downloading 0%".
The DP monitor confirms that the package is distributed. Boundary and boundary group is created and should be OK for this DP (which has firewall disabled).
When I take a client and put it on a different subnet, the application downloads from another working DP.
    Any suggestions?

DP is associated to a boundary group, and the boundary with the address range which the server is on is a member of the boundary group.

    Any Ideas?
If anyone has the list of Operating system requirements for a DP running on Server 2012R2 it would be appreciated also.

I've just tried to reach the admin$ from a remote PC and (from the local server) using PSexec and I can read the admin$ directory without any issues so there is access to the remote DP. I haven't yet looked at the firewall logs but only because
the firewall ports are already allowing traffic to our other DP's.
do the firewall rules differ from server 2008, 2012 and 2012R2? (I have previous 2008 and 2012 servers but this is the first R2 server we are setting up as a DP.)
The firewall rules are the same for 2k8 and 2k12.
When you reach the admin$ share are you using Psexec as the system account and not your use account ? (-i -s as Torsten mentionned) ?
Do you have any other firewall maybe between the machine and the site Server ?
Do you have the SCCMContentLib folder created on the DP ? (On the drive specified in the wizard).

  • SCCM 2012: failed to connect to distribution point

    Hi folks,
I have an intermittent issue and can't figure out the reason so far.
I have a primary server and multiple distribution points. The primary does not have a DP configured. When I deploy a new distribution point, I have the following messages:
Distribution Manager failed to connect to the distribution point. Check your network and firewall settings.
    and
Distribution Manager failed to find or create the defined share or volume on distribution point.
    DistMgr.log shows the following:
    CWmi::Connect() failed to connect to \\AMB-SCCM-E.domain.name\root\CIMv2. Error = 0x800706BA
    STATMSG: ID=2391 SEV=E LEV=M SOURCE="SMS Server" COMP="SMS_DISTRIBUTION_MANAGER" SYS=BBD-SCCM-E.domain.name SITE=IDC PID=2120 TID=3376 GMTDATE=do jun 28 07:24:17.463 2012 ISTR0="["Display=\\AMB-SCCM-E.domain.name\"]MSWNET:["SMS_SITE=IDC"]\\AMB-SCCM-E.domain.name\"

Failed to find a valid drive on the distribution point ["Display=\\AMB-SCCM-E.domain.name\"]MSWNET:["SMS_SITE=IDC"]\\AMB-SCCM-E.domain.name\
Cannot find or create the package share.
Error occurred. Performing error cleanup prior to returning.
However, after a while (couple of hours), it looks like everything is distributed on the DP. But this message keeps on coming back during the course of the day and every time a new DP is deployed.
I checked permissions, IIS, WMI, but I can't find out the cause of this behavior. I have events about WMI (id 5605) but I can connect to the WMI workspace (root\MicrosoftIISv2) with no issues.
Can anyone shed some light on this please? It would be greatly appreciated.
    Cheers,
    Safdar.

To clarify: it's not enough to tick "Windows Authentication" in Add Roles/Features - it actually has to be enabled in IIS configuration.
There are also suggestions to run mofcomp.exe smsdpprov.mof
