Adding text to editable region creates space in the rest of my layout

I created my layout in PS, sliced the images and then imported to DW (html and images).
Layout looks great.
I created editable regions in the template I created from the .html
One I start inserting text into these regions, my container moves and it throws the rest of the layout off by adding space between the editable region and the area above it (a big black line horizontally through the page).
Is there a way to keep the container/editable region from moving or growing with the text so that it doesn't change my layout?
On a side note, this change doesn't appear in live view. When I preview in browser, Safari layout looks great, but text doesn't appear. In firefox, text appears, but layout is a mess.
Here is the code from the editable region to which I am trying to add text:
<!-- TemplateBeginEditable name="main_content_area" -->
        <div id="site_layout_contentmain">Content for  id "site_layout_contentmain" Goes Here</div>
      <!-- TemplateEndEditable --></td>
ANY help is GREATLY appreciated!!!!!

Yes, the design is appearing to pull apart when I add content, but only in the Firefox preview.
If it pulls apart in Firefox, chances are it pulls apart in all browsers when text size is increased.
The problem with Photoshop code is that it is a) rigid, b) unstable and c) invalid.
To illustrate, run your code through the on-line validation tools below.
CSS - http://jigsaw.w3.org/css-validator/
HTML - http://validator.w3.org/
Photoshop is OK for designing quick comps to show the client but they won't hold up on a real site.
IMO, the benefits of starting over far outweigh the inconvenience.

  • I need help to decide which macbook pro is best for photo editing, editing movies and doing all the rest too like excel, word etc. 13"

    I need help to decide which macbook pro is best for photo editing, editing movies and doing all the rest too like  microsoft office products ...excel, word etc.  I am new to the apple world and have liked the idea of the MAC Book Pro 13" but really dont know if this is good enough or if the computer will soon crash?
    13-inch: 2.6GHz
    with Retina display
    Specifications
    2.6GHz dual-core Intel Core i5
    Turbo Boost up to 3.1GHz
    8GB 1600MHz memory
    512GB PCIe-based flash storage1
    Intel Iris Graphics
    Built-in battery (9 hours)2

    That's a fine machine and, with 8GB of RAM and 512GB flash storage should serve you well for light video/photo editing as well as for 'normal' usage. And it should last you for years to come.
    Good luck in making your decision!!

    Ok thanks anyway I solved.
    I found answer from PaulM. (thanks Paolo)
    I just wondered how I can post links in these messages. I saw other people doing it. So instead of typing the URL making it a real hyperlink like in a normal html page.
    Editing a post with '#' cuts the rest of the line

  • Edit region teal colour tag "editableregion" is messing up layout.

    Hi I have developed a Photoshop layout.
    I carved up vertical menu bar (6 options) and made three different buttons for different states. up down pressed
    so I can calculate 6 x button height (52) and 138 width.
    So i have an area of   312 x 138
    So I create a slice of this size.
    So i save for web
    Now when in dreamweaver i create template ..
    Now for the navigation area of size  312 x 138  i create a div and then i insert a editable region.
    I get a bulky teal coloured tag at top
    Finally i create my navigation bar and insert 6 images. ... but the bottom is being push by what seems to be the height of the bulky tag.
    Any suggestions please

    Sure, you can turn off the invisible items, and turn them back on when you need them. Go to View > Visual Aids > Invisible Elements and turn them off.
    They only mess up the Design View, they should not be messing up your actual Live View or Browser View.

  • Creating Space on the StartUp Disk?

    I am soooo frustrated as well with what I thought was a top of the line external Hard Drive.  I can't open hardly any important Illustrator files that I need for work, hence I'm given the message to delete files from the start up disk to create space.  I've deleted a lot that I didn't need anymore but still have apparently not created enough free disk space.  So I bought this "LACIE by S+ARCK" external hard drive from my local Apple Store &amp; was reassured by the sales person that it was easy to use and I'd have no problems- just follow the set up instructions.  So I diligently tried to exactly follow the user manual instructions to no avail.  For whatever reasons, every time I try to open the LACIE DESKTOP MANAGER IT SAYS: "NO LACIE DESKTOP MANAGER COMPLIANT DEVICE FOUND."  I've reinstalled it - no change and I've downloaded the files from the LACIE website &amp; again reinstalled it- still no change.  Same message keeps coming up when I go to open the LACIE DESKTOP MANAGER.  I am beyond annoyed &amp; want this thing to work as it states it will.  I'm about to give up, I'll try Genius Bar next, if still no luck... I'd better get a refund from the Apple Store I bought it at.  Please post if anyone has further knowledge as to what the heck is going on here and is there something I'm missing in my attempts to open this file?
    Thanks.

    UPDATE:
    So I have tried the 2 + 3 key hold down as computer starts &amp; it did something but I'm not sure what to do now.  I partitioned the external hard drive by file type (i.e. pdf, jpg, doc, ai, psd, html, webarchive, xml, etc.).  However, I'm still lost and confused.  Do I have to manually go through all my files and sort them out into the ones I want on the external hard drive, and place each different file type into each of the partitions I've created???  This is going to take me a very long time to do as I have so many files I don't necessarily need on my internal hard drive.  Any one who can lend me a bit of guidance here - I'd be very appreciative!
    Thanks again.

  • Top 10 and creating 'others' for the rest (11th row). How?

    I currently have a requirement to create a request that lists the top 10 store sales in a country and the 11th row will be considered a total of the rest - 'Others'.
    Is that possible within one request in OBIEE?

  • Mysteriously added text downloading to Acrobat Create PDF Online

    Working on Acrobat.com's create an online pdf web page I
    downloaded a Word Document from my pc to Acrobat.com and opened the
    Word document (on Acrobat's web site) to find the document
    different than the original Word document on my pc.
    The Word document (as well as the pdf conversion displayed
    next to it) on the Acrobat.com web page mysteriously had an added
    line of text showing a previously unknown date (January 9, 2006)
    inserted before the body of the original text but under the
    original page header. The font also looked slightly different
    throughout the body and header of the document and the document
    itself was extended to 3 pages long instead of 2. In the conversion
    the now added 3rd page also mysteriously included the standard
    header and footer and renumbered the first two pages to include
    this new 3rd page (page x of 3) in the footer.. When I went back to
    the original Word document on my pc nothing was added or changed.
    I downloaded another Word document with a different page
    header from the same pc to the Acrobat webpage and while that
    document looks graphically slightly different there was no text
    added.
    It seems that there must be some sort of embedded legacy date
    code or script at the beginning of the Word document that while not
    visible in either the reveal codes side pane, or showing up in any
    way when working or printing the document in Word is somehow
    revealed in the text of the document when downloaded to the Acrobat
    site even before its converted to a pdf file.
    How can I manage this?

    I am using Windows XP Professional O/S and Firefox as my
    browser. I get that the font options will change the file as opened
    at Acrobat that may change the layout,
    but,....
    how do you explain the mysterious extra date 'string' that
    appeared at the start of the word document as it showed up at
    Acrobat's website?
    Since this is standard out of the box Word and included fonts
    (garamond 12) why does this do this.

  • How do i  create space on the start up disk by moving pictures from i photo but keeping them readily available

    how do i get pictures off of my start up disk but in a way that i can recll them into iphoto

    You will first of all need an external hard drive. There are lots of them available. Search MacSales or NewEgg for one that suits your needs. Get one that is bigger than you think you'll need.
    Once you have an external drive, format it using Disk Utility (in the /Applications/Utilities folder) if it has not already been formatted to work with a Mac.
    Copy your Pictures folder (which should contain your iPhoto library) to the new hard drive.
    Launch iPhoto while holding down the option key on your keyboard. It will ask you to select an iPhoto library. Select the library on the external hard drive. Confirm that all your pictures are there and you can work with them.
    Drag the iPhoto library that is in your Pictures folder on the internal hard drive to the Trash.
    Empty the Trash.
    You should now have a bunch more space on your hard drive.
    If you have not been backing up your data religiously, start using the external hard drive to do so (be sure to get a nice BIG drive so you have plenty of room for backups.) Also realize that since your iPhoto library is now stored on the external drive, backing it up again to that drive is not particularly useful. I suggest burning all your important photos to DVDs. If the photo library is too big for that, get another external hard drive and back up to that. Data security is important.

    the text and the images on the computer is in a good size in general, but on search pages in Firefox is too small, sometime it starts larger and then turn small in a few seconds ..... on facebook page the text is ok in size. How can we increase the text size permanently?

  • Adding editable region tags moves my content in non-editable regions

    I have a template based on a template (the first with my navigation, and the second is based on the first with a sidebar added). When I add an editable region to the second template, it moves my sidebar down to leave a gap between the nav bar and the top of the sidebar. On the second template I want to add editable regions to the content area and to the sidebar. Even if I don't add any content to the editable reagions and just place the editable regions tags, my sidebar still moves down. I have tried adding two seperate editable regions and also adding one large editable region covering the content area and sidebar and the sidebar moved both times. My content area is a div floated left and the sidebar is a div floated right.
    I don't understand why anything is moving when I am only adding tags to make an area editable

    Do you have a container that the two divs are in and if so, are you clearing the floats? It's hard to give an answer without seeing the problem page.

  • ***Editing video: Help adding text to my video! Gamut-like problem***

    Hi, I'm using the Photoshop CS6 free trial and I'm having trouble adding text to my video. I select the Text tool on the left side of the screen and when I expand the box to add text, it automatically changes my video to a gamut-like screen. I can still add text but the screen doesn't change back to my video. I don't know what I can do to fix this problem. I already tried turning off the gamut warning but it doesn't fix the problem.
    Thank you!!

    You need to create a separate video track for the text overlay. You are simply trying to type in soem existing stuff and it invalidates your existing video.

  • Modifying a template resulted in all child pages with repeating editable regions - Help !

    Good morning,
    I have recently been appointed to update a website designed in Dreamweaver by an employee who is no longer here. I have read books on the software and practiced an insane amount which permitted me to update child pages, links, documents etc... however:
    I was asked to add a new button to an "non-editable" region of a template. Trying to do so resulted in a massive mess (with massive anxiety).
    Even thou the new template had all the same text and editable regions, all my pages look completely different from the template itself. The editable regions appears 2-3 times in different locations ex: Header is showed on the bottom, top etc... and the Editable region titles (EditableRegion1 etc...) repeat themselves as well.
    I really need help and not sure what to do, I have tried everything and I am only making it worse and worse. All I want/need is for all my html pages created with this template, match the template.
    Please note that this site is local, not online.
    Since I noticed on other threads that the code is needed; here it is:

    /* Tips for Elastic layouts
    1. Since the elastic layouts overall sizing is based on the user's default fonts size, they are more unpredictable. Used correctly, they are also more accessible for those that need larger fonts size since the line length remains proportionate.
    2. Sizing of divs in this layout are based on the 100% font size in the body element. If you decrease the text size overall by using a font-size: 80% on the body element or the #container, remember that the entire layout will downsize proportionately. You may want to increase the widths of the various divs to compensate for this.
    3. If font sizing is changed in differing amounts on each div instead of on the overall design (ie: #sidebar1 is given a 70% font size and #mainContent is given an 85% font size), this will proportionately change each of the divs overall size. You may want to adjust based on your final font sizing.
    .twoColElsLtHdr #container {
    width: 46em;  /* this width will create a container that will fit in an 800px browser window if text is left at browser default font sizes */
    background: #FFFFFF;
    margin: 0 auto; /* the auto margins (in conjunction with a width) center the page */
    border: 30px none #C4C4C4;
    text-align: left; /* this overrides the text-align: center on the body element. */
    padding-left: 10px;

    .twoColElsLtHdr #header {
    padding: 0 10px;  /* this padding matches the left alignment of the elements in the divs that appear beneath it. If an image is used in the #header instead of text, you may want to remove the padding. */
    background-color: #FFF;
    .twoColElsLtHdr #header h1 {
    margin: 0; /* zeroing the margin of the last element in the #header div will avoid margin collapse - an unexplainable space between divs. If the div has a border around it, this is not necessary as that also avoids the margin collapse */
    padding: 10px 0; /* using padding instead of margin will allow you to keep the element away from the edges of the div */
    /* Tips for sidebar1:
    1. Be aware that if you set a font-size value on this div, the overall width of the div will be adjusted accordingly.
    2. Since we are working in ems, it's best not to use padding on the sidebar itself. It will be added to the width for standards compliant browsers creating an unknown actual width.
    3. Space between the side of the div and the elements within it can be created by placing a left and right margin on those elements as seen in the ".twoColElsLtHdr #sidebar1 p" rule.
    .twoColElsLtHdr #sidebar1 {
    float: left;
    width: 12em; /* the background color will be displayed for the length of the content in the column, but no further */
    padding: 15px 0; /* top and bottom padding create visual space within this div */

    clear: left;
    .twoColElsLtHdr #sidebar1 h3, .twoColElsLtHdr #sidebar1 p {
    margin-left: 10px; /* the left and right margin should be given to every element that will be placed in the side columns */
    margin-right: 10px;
    background-color: #066;
    text-decoration: inherit;
    /* Tips for mainContent:
    1. If you give this #mainContent div a font-size value different than the #sidebar1 div, the margins of the #mainContent div will be based on its font-size and the width of the #sidebar1 div will be based on its font-size. You may wish to adjust the values of these divs.
    2. The space between the mainContent and sidebar1 is created with the left margin on the mainContent div.  No matter how much content the sidebar1 div contains, the column space will remain. You can remove this left margin if you want the #mainContent div's text to fill the #sidebar1 space when the content in #sidebar1 ends.
    3. To avoid float drop, you may need to test to determine the approximate maximum image/element size since this layout is based on the user's font sizing combined with the values you set. However, if the user has their browser font size set lower than normal, less space will be available in the #mainContent div than you may see on testing.
    4. In the Internet Explorer Conditional Comment below, the zoom property is used to give the mainContent "hasLayout." This avoids several IE-specific bugs that may occur.
    .twoColElsLtHdr #mainContent {
    margin: 0 1.5em 0 13em; /* the right margin can be given in ems or pixels. It creates the space down the right side of the page. */

    I am not suprised, the previous employee tried to recreate the English version of the site in another folder structure and did not change all links and was still using a template in the wrong location.
    I think I created the mess by trying to modify the existing template's non-editable region in order to add a new button. When trying to update all the pages, the fiasco started.
    Do you think the best option would be to create a new template in the correct folder structure and apply it? Would it fix the current pages or will I have to fix them all manualy on by one?
    I understand it is difficult to deal with a newbie of my magnitude and thanks again.

  • Using Contribute CS5 to edit site created w/Dreamweaver - PayPal button size issues

    I'm using Adobe Contribute CS5 to edit my web site that was built with Dreamweaver on a Mac.  I have a PC with Windows XP, 1G of ram, a 40G hard drive (used only for programs and operating system) a 1 terabyte external hard drive for all files, etc.  I use MSN Explorer for my browser.
    I have done extensive editing and everything works fine except for when I edit or add PayPal buttons.  The site was built using "tables" for most everything as well as all of my price lists.  When I add a button or edit button properties, that row of cells doubles in height, in the "editing window" they look okay but when I publish the page they take on the doubled height.
    I contacted Contribute tech support and they say Contribute is working properly and the problem is with how the button code was written in Dreamweaver.  The tech said even though the button looks like it is the proper size, the code tells it to take up more space thus giving me the cell height problem.  My standard price lists do not have any lines defining rows and columns but on one page I have been experimenting with I have given the table a line value of 1 to enable me to see what is going on, you can view this page at; http://www.hopscrimshaw.com/birds/owls1.htm
    My Webmaster and I parted ways a few years ago so seeking help there is not an option, she won't return phone calls, reply to e-mails, etc.
    Any help solving this problem would be very much appreciated.
    Thanks,   PapaHop

    I am also having this problem and any answer would be greatly appreciated. The code <p style="margin-top: 0; margin-bottom: 0;"> </p> gets added whenever text edits are made. This seems to create spaces on the page which pushes content out of alignment. The code gets put into the navigation, the text and anything above the text being edited, jpeg sliders, images, etc.

  • Template - editable region problem

    Hi folks,
    I'm designing a site using CSS as opposed to tables and I've
    hit on a problem. For info the site is broken down into a 'header',
    'left hand column' and a 'right hand column'. The 'left hand
    column' is a class and on the template I'm trying to make it an
    editable region, However when I've down editable regions in tables
    in the past they're always worked but this time out when attempting
    to make the left hand column editable the following message is
    displayed:
    You have placed the editable region "EditColumn" inside a block
    tag. Users of this template will not be able to create new blocks
    in this region. Move the region outside the block tag if you want
    users to be able to do this. Now I'm not sure what I'm doing
    wrong, however it is within this region I want to be able to edit
    data. I want to be able to apply a Bg image to this region and also
    add images or text and links - however I cant.
    I have tried to edit the above on a separate DW8 file and it
    works fine (which it should do) - it's just in the template version
    I cant. Can anyone shed any light on this problem. I'm not a
    hardcore coder so any breakdown in this problem would be absolutley
    welcomed.
    Many thanks
    Tommisauce

    I note that you have used the space bar as a layout tool (not
    a great idea).
       <a
    href="#">ADVERTISEMENT</a>
    I also note that you continue to make the error of improperly
    nesting tags -
    <p align="left"><img
    src="../image/Front_Page/IUKwebLogo.gif"
    alt="Intuition
    UK: Business Consultants" width="245" height="60"
    class="Logo" /><div
    class="MenuHeader">
    Note that this is a <div> inside a <p> and that's
    not a valid structure.
    You also have things like this -
    <p><p class="Copyright">Intuition UK
    2007&copy;</p>
    an improperly terminated <p> tag.
    Until you get a better grasp of HTML, you should probably
    stay out of the
    code.
    The bottom line is this - DW will only do what you tell it to
    do. If you
    tell it to do something that will result in invalid markup,
    DW will not
    always prevent you from completing that task. If there is
    invalid markup on
    a template page, you will always trigger these alerts that
    you are getting.

  • Child pages inheriting editable regions from template

    I have looked far and wide and cannot find an answer to this problem:
    We recently did a homepage update where the nested and/or second level template (index_template.dwt) was changed. Since much of the formatting was the same - I duplicated the original index_template and made all necessary changes. From this template two child pages were created for our US and UK site. Upon creating the page(s) from the index_template they are inheriting the editable regions, thus not having the ability to update when changes are being made to the template. I have tried multiple ways in an attempt to correct this - but to no avail. Does anyone have a clue how to correct this? As of now I have to manually update all 3 pages.
    BTW I am also a relatively new user who was thrown into managing our company website and pretty much doing a redo on the whole thing. Talk about a learning experience!

    My issue is when you create a page from a template they are not supposed to inherit the editable regions less otherwise marked.
    But that is not true. A newly created child page will inherit ALL content from its template.  But changes to the editable region contents in the template will NOT propagate to existing child pages.
    So, for example, if I want all child pages to have an embedded stylesheet in the head that is EDITABLE, my template would look like this -
    <!-- TemplateBeginEditable name="head" -->
    <style type="text/css">
    </style>
    <!-- TemplateEndEditable -->
    All newly created child pages will then look like this -
    <!-- InstanceBeginEditable name="head" -->
    <style type="text/css">
    </style>
    <!-- InstanceEndEditable -->
    If I then go back to the template and change it like this -
    <!-- TemplateBeginEditable name="head" -->
    <style type="text/css">
    body { margin:0; }
    </style>
    <!-- TemplateEndEditable -->
    that change will NOT propagate to existing child pages, but WILL appear in child pages created subsequently to the save of the template after the change.
    And by the way, it's always been this way.
