Address book duplicates, address book duplicates

My Address book is duplicating contacts. It will not search. I cannot merge duplicates as it freezes/hangs on the merging sequence. What to do? I have Mac OS X Lion Version 10.7.2 with a 2.8 GHz Intel Core i5 Processor and 16 GB  1333 MHz DDR3, my Graphics ATI Rdeon HD 5750 1024 MB.

You have duplicates because you are using two accounts that have the same information in them. You need to eliminate one of the accounts and then check again. If you still need help then navigate to the iCloud on my Mac forum and someone can provide more insight on how to fix the issue.

  • Remove duplicate Address Book emails

I'm trying to write a script that walks through the currently selected Address Book entries, checks for duplicate email addresses, and removes any duplicates that it finds. Here's what I came up with:
    <pre>tell application "Address Book"
    set the_selection to selection
    repeat with this_person in the_selection
    set unique_emails to {}
    set duplicate_emails to {}
repeat with this_email in every email of this_person
if the value of this_email is in unique_emails then
copy the contents of this_email to the end of duplicate_emails
    else
copy the value of this_email to the end of unique_emails
    end if
    end repeat
    repeat with this_email in duplicate_emails
    remove this_email from this_person's emails
    end repeat
    end repeat
    end tell</pre>
It seems like this should work, but when I try to run it, I get:
<pre>Address Book got an error: NSReceiversCantHandleCommandScriptError</pre>
I believe the first repeat clause is correct; the error comes in the call to remove. I just can't figure out how to remove the emails listed in duplicate_emails from Address Book. Any suggestions? TIA

Yes, that's because of the emails is reduced by one -every time- after the script encounters the second address. On the third encounter the index for this email address is 3, but the actual index of it is 2 -because the second one got deleted, is that make sense?
Yes, I'm just surprised that this is necessary. In some other programming languages (such as Java's collections API), keeping track of indices is not necessary because you can delete an element on the fly and the iterator object will adjust itself accordingly.
Anyway, even though the second repeat loop is not strictly necessary, I'd rather do that than have to deal with index-based loops. The second loop approach is easier to read and understand, I think.
I've posted the final version of the script here: http://vocaro.com/trevor/software/applescript/
Thank you for your help; I appreciate it!

  • How to create a duplicate address book contact?

This seems so simple yet I cannot determine how to create a new duplicate address book contact. I have a few contacts from the same company and want to change the variable data instead of re entering the data
I can create a new contact, copy the data of the record I want to duplicate yet when I paste the info into the new record - address book puts everything into one field.
Why not a duplicate contact command?
    GRRRR

    Rich,
    According to Address Book Help:
    To duplicate an address card:
    Select an address card.
Choose Edit > Copy, and then choose Edit > Paste.
    Works for me

  • Recovering backup duplicates address book... how can I fix ?

Hi everyone, i´m BES and NOTES administrator in my company in Brazil, some employers are reclaim me the adress book of blackberry 9000 ( and 8900 and 8300) are duplicating !
this is the problem: when the employer receive the new BlackBerry, he make a backup of address book, and then recover this backup on the new phone, but ON the adress book dont appears DESKTOP, appears UNKNOWN... so, when the sync starts, duplicates all address becouse it creates a new book called DESKTOP.. how can I fix this?
    thankzz

For those that don't want to download any additional software and Just want to make a return label you can also duplicate your own address card within the address book application the number of times you need it in on your label sheet. Highlight them all, then print. Once you've finished you can just type in your own name in the search bar and delete everything except your original card which is obvious because that card has the shadow of a person.
The other way around this is to make a card called Return Address. and put your name and address in the address area. Duplicate the card so that you have the same about cards as labels, print and then delete when you have finished.
I am not saying this way is perfect but at least there is a work around if you need it.
    Have a good day.

  • DUPLICATE ADDRESS BOOKS... ONE CONTAINS MY APPS

I have duplicate ADDRESS BOOK folders on my dock. One contains my addresses and the other ADDRESS BOOK folder contains my APPLICATIONS !
I am missing my APPLICATION FOLDER from the dock. I am a very new IMAC user  .Help please

One of those is your Applications folder, being displayed as a stack with the top item (Address Book) on top.  Hover the mouse over each one to see the name.  The Applications folder should be the one over near the trash can.  Control-click the Applications folder and choose Folder in the Display As section of the menu that appears.

  • Duplicate addresses for the same contact in Address Book.

For many of my contacts, there are duplicate addresses.  When I delete one of the addresses, both of them disappear.  Pretty funky.  Anybody else see this type of thing?

  • Duplicate addresses

Here's a weird one. Virtually all the records in my address book recently disappeared - this is a periodic problem with Address Book. The records return when Sync asks if I want to delete more than a thousand records on .Mac. I select cancel and the records miraculously reappear in the Address Book.
But this week, something different happened. When the addresses reappeared, over a thousand had been modified by duplication. Every work and home address is duplicated. What could have caused this bloating and how can I get rid of the duplicates? I took a backup of the database with duplicates from another of my Macs and just rebuilt the Address Book from that, yet it still contains the duplicate addresses. (Incidentally, it's only the addresses that have been duplicated in each record - not the names, phone numbers and emails.)
One possible cause is that I recently purchased a fourth Mac and when I asked to Sync it warned that there were two computers with my username. I chose a different name to deal with that. But on one of my original Macs Retrospect is now telling me that there are two "indistinguishable" hard drives with the same username. I can only see one but there could be some sort of ghost in my system.
    And suggestions appreciated. Cheers.

Sync invited me to choose another name. I just entered a variant of my usual user name (firstnamelastname), putting my middle initial in. That was on the new Mac which is running OS 10.5.something. On the older Mac, running OS 10.4.11, I've also changed the account name although, of course, the shortname remains the same. Retrospect reports the problem of the disk with the same name on the old Mac, but not on the new one.
Another interesting thing: only Address Book entries with addresses have been updated. Address Book entries with just names and phone numbers or emails have not been updated (according to the light grey "Last updated" text in the bottom right of the window. It's as though just one or two fields in the underlying database have been duplicated (Home address and Work address).

  • How do I print Avery labels?  I can do the address only using address book, but I need to add several lines of additional information.

How do I print Avery mailing labels?  I can do them using my address book, but I need to have several lines of additional info. on the label.  Thanks.

You chose a group of addresses you want to print and then use command-P. You will get a drop down menu where you have to select the Avery number or size of labels. It's pretty rigid.
I can't stand the limitations of the Contacts method of printing address labels. I don't want to waste a partial sheet if my selection doesn't come out even with the number of labels. I'd like to duplicate addresses which I use often to fill up the partial sheet. I like being creative with fonts, colors and even borders or images. Your ability to be creative with Contacts printing is severely limited.
I've used Pay&Play's Label Printer Pro software for years. I originally paid MUCH more for this program. It's extremely versitle. Design one label and you can copy it to the rest of the labels in the drop down menu with one click. Chose how many of whichever lablel you want to duplicate with a simple cut and paste to fill up the page.
I can vouch that it works perfectly with Mountain Lion, v 10.8.2.
Here's the link to their direct download from their website for $6.95:
    http://www.payplaysoftware.com/download.html
Or you can look up Label Printer Pro 7 on the app store and pay $9.99.
No, I don't work for or have any ties to the company other than being a satisfied customer of a product which suits my needs perfectly.

  • Can't add a new address card to Address Book

    Hi!
Well, I searched and searched the site all over and haven't found any info about this, so I hope I'm not repeating. When I open my address book app and try to add a new card the options under file for "New Card" and "New group", etc. are dimmed and not available and I cannot add any new addresses.
I tried to add addresses out of the "previous recipient" under "window" in the Mail app but it marked it as added and then didn't add it -- it was not in my address book when I checked.
I also tried to throw my address book preference lists in my user library in the trash, emptied the trash and then restarted and it still would not work. ( I am the only user on this computer)
I recently had a reinstall done of my OS X (i'm running 10.4.3) which was done by the guys at my Apple store and I THOUGHT it was working -- although frankly this was not something I checked -- I just saw that my addresses were there. [I had had them do a reinstall because I was having trouble with my Help files working, but that is a very long, sad story...] The only other thing I have done is to install the most recent security update 2005-009 using the software update, but again I'm not sure that this problem was not present before that since I had not tried to add an address.
I even threw out the cache from my user library for the address book that says Metadata (after I printed out my addresses on paper, just in case -- I don't have hundreds and i can manually add them back if needed) Restarted -- and oddly enough there were my addresses in my address book just as if I hadn't trashed them. But I still could not add any new addresses.
I also ran a check on my fonts with Font book and one was found to be defective so I deleted it and restarted -- no effect.
What can I do? I haven't had any of this type of problem before and I think the guys at my Apple store are probably getting tired of seeing me! Thanks for your help!

The address book database is stored under the user's home folder in library>application support>AddressBook>AddressBook.data - i would save that some place safe (RW CD) and then delete it or move it to see if Address Book regains it's functionailty. If so that means one of the files might be corrupt. Add them back one by one and see if you can have contacts and functionality.
Alternatively you can also try, repair permissions, check disk etc from disk utility (utilities folder), and you can also try reinstalling the 10.4.3 update, i would suggest a fresh download of the combo update (yes i know it's big but it has worked wonders for me in the past).
If all else fails the apple shop should offer a free follow up, usually if there are still problems within a time period after getting it back they will re-service it for free.
Hope that helps, keep us updated

  • How do I automatically or manually add incoming e-mail addresses to my address book?

How do I automatically or manually add incoming e-mail addresses to my address book?

Automatically? Really?? All addresses of all senders just sucked into the address book, spammers, advertisers and all?
Where an address appears in the panel above the message text, there is a star alongside it. Click this star to add the address to your Address Book. Once you have done that, you can click the star again to edit the address book entry.
Note that if the star is empty/grey (silver?) the contact is unknown. If the star is filled/yellow (gold?), the Contact is already in your address book. (This is very like the way bookmarks are managed in Firefox.)
If you really want all senders' addresses entered indiscriminately into your address book, this add-on may be of interest.

  • How to export Date book and Address book from Palm Desktop to Apple iCal and Address Book?

I have my calendar information and addresses stored in Palm Desktop date book and address book, respectively. I am running Palm Desktop 4.2.1. Everytime I try to export the date book or address book to my desktop using the vCal format, the Palm desktop crashes. My goal is to export all my data from Palm Desktop to iCal and Address Book on the Apple OS (10.6.1). Does anyone have any advice as to how I can do this or do I just have to start from scratch and manually enter the data from Palm Desktop to Apple iCal and Address Book? I looked at the Missing Sync software, but I don't think this will do the trick. The Genius Bar at the Apple Store didn't offer any solutions either. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Hello tay8000m and welcome to the Palm forums.
Have you tried running the "Repair Disk Permissions" command in Apple's Disk Utility application yet?  Launch Disk Utility, select "Macintosh HD" from the left side of the window, and then click the "Repair Disk Permissions" button.
After the utility has run, try launching Palm Desktop again and then exporting your data as vCard or iCal files.  If the exports aren't working for you, you can always export the data as comma separated values (.csv) file and then import that into the Apple apps you want to use.

  • HOW TO SEND PERSONALIZED EMAILS (WITH SAME MESSAGE) TO ALL ADDRESSES IN THE ADDRESS BOOK - WITH RECIPIENTS SEEING ONLY THEIR NAME BUT NOT WHO ELSE IS GETTING IT

HOW TO SEND PERSONALIZED EMAILS WITH THE SAME MESSAGE, BUT WITH THE INDIVIDUAL RECIPIENT'S NAME... (OR NAME AND THE EMAIL ADDRESS) TO ALL ADDRESSES IN THE ADDRESS BOOK - WITH RECIPIENTS SEEING ONLY THEIR OWN NAME WITHIN THE BODY OF THE MESSAGE TO THEM ?
ALSO, HOW TO ELIMINATE ALL THE OTHER NAMES FROM THE LIST - SO THEY CAN NOT SEE WHO ELSE IS ON THE MAILING LIST, AND WHO ELSE IS GETTING THE SAME MESSAGE?

In the csv file, the column headers must match the the special references in curly brackets.
So you either change the column header in .csv file or the bit in the curly brackets in the Template email.
    To change the column header:
In the example shown below, I wanted to use the first two columns
'First Name', 'Last Name' note the exact spelling.
I also wanted the email address which was in a column called 'Primary Email'.
To make it easier for me, I copied the Primary Email column and inserted it into the third column position and then changed the column header name from 'Primary Email' to 'Email'. (This meant I still had the original column header just in case). see image below.
But you could just change the column header name from 'Primary Email' to 'Email' without moving column about - up to you.
At this point check that all the contacts do have a valid email address.
    then save the file.
If you do not want to edit the .csv file, then you need to edit the template email.
    eg: {{First Name}} {{Last Name}} <{{Email}}>
    change to : {{First Name}} {{Last Name}} <{{Primary Email}}>
If still having an issue, please post two images.
One image needs to show the row of column headers used in .csv file.
The other image needs to show the Template email, so I can see how you have used the curly brackets.
